BIO: Lily is a retired breeder dog and is not well socialized (from not being handled a lot) so it’s important that the person applying needs to understand that this will be a long process of getting her comfortable in her new home. She will do better in a home with another small male dog. She doesn’t always get along with other females. This dog needs to be well socialized, so Lilly will understand and learn what it means to be a pet.
Once you gain her trust, Lily is a very sweet, sweet girl. She will just need time!
Our must haves for Lily:

Fenced in yard
A human female home only and/or a very patient male
Another young/adult well-socialized small dog for her to pal with ... male preferred.
Someone that can be home more than not
Not apartments, high rises or condos

An adopter with retired breeder dog experience is very helpful. This experience will aid in your understanding how shut down Lily is and you know how to help her be the pet she can be. Help her if you have experience.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We cannot adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
