Panic! at the Disco | 2–3-year-old Chi/Rat Terrier mix | Your little Disco Boy
Affectionately called “Disco Boy” or “Little Man” by his foster family, Panic! at the Disco is an 8-pound Chi/Rat Terrier mix who is a sweet combination of playful, cuddly, shy, and just a little bit quirky. He loves toys, snuggling under the covers, and being close to his people. He also has an adorable little mouth-play routine that will make you smile. Disco came to us from Denver Animal Shelter as an owner surrender and was extremely skinny when he arrived, weighing less than 7 pounds. He has done wonderfully since then and is now at a healthy weight.
Disco is definitely a Man's Man! He seems to feel most comfortable around men and takes considerably longer to warm up to women. His ideal home would be one with a man or multiple men, or a man and a very patient woman who understands that earning his trust will take time. He's nervous around strangers and needs people who will respect his boundaries, let him approach on his own terms, and avoid rushing the relationship. Once he trusts you, though, he's a loving little guy who enjoys affection and attention.
Disco does well with other small and same-size dogs and would really enjoy having a little canine friend to play with. However, he'll need time to warm up to a resident dog, too, so introductions and building that relationship will need to happen at his pace. He's also completely uninterested in the resident cat. A home without children is best for Disco, where he can enjoy a calm environment and build relationships at his own pace.
Disco is a medium-energy guy who is happy with some casual activity and then ready to settle down on the couch. He loves running around the yard and has learned to like going on walks. He can be a little nervous when having his harness put on or taken off, so his adopter will need to be patient and respectful of his boundaries.
House training is still a work in progress, but Disco is getting better every day! His new family will need to be patient and consistent as he continues learning. He has been left loose in the house for 5–6 hours and has done well.. He isn't currently kennel trained because his foster family doesn't use a kennel. Disco is very food motivated—understandably so, given how skinny he was when he arrived—and he is still learning to take treats politely. He doesn't know any formal commands yet, but he's making progress with structure and boundaries.
Most importantly, Disco needs an adopter who understands that earning his trust will be a process. The third "3" of the 3-3-3 rule is especially important for this little guy. While every dog adjusts at their own pace, the first three months are often when a rescue dog begins to feel truly secure and develop a deep bond with their new family. Disco may need that full time (and possibly more!) before he feels completely comfortable. His adopter must be willing to give him the patience, consistency, and space he needs without expecting him to become an instant best friend.
Disco's ideal home would have a man or men (or a man and a very patient woman), preferably another small dog to keep him company, no children, and someone who understands that good things take time. He doesn't need a marathon runner, just a loving person willing to let him settle in at his own pace. Once you're part of his trusted circle, you'll have a playful, cuddly little companion who loves nothing more than being close to his people—and sharing the covers!
