Raven Symone: That’s So Raven!
10–12 months old • 13 lbs • Shih Tzu • Non-shedding
Some dogs arrive in foster care needing time to find their confidence. Raven Symone arrived ready for her starring role. This fabulous little Shih Tzu came to DPS from the shelter, but from her very first minute in her foster home, she acted as though she already knew everyone—and naturally assumed they would adore her. She was right.
With her expressive face, perpetually wagging tail, and delightful personality, Raven packs a whole lot of charm into 13 pounds. She is friendly, confident, and wonderfully adaptable, with a non-shedding coat that will need regular brushing and professional grooming to keep her looking and feeling her best.
Fetch Is Her Favorite Show
If Raven had control of the remote, the programming would be simple: fetch, fetch, belly rubs, and a little more fetch. She absolutely LOVES retrieving toys and is equally pleased when a squeaky toy joins the cast.
But this young lady also knows when to take a commercial break. When her people are ready to play, she’s ready to participate. When they’re busy, she happily lounges or naps nearby. Her fosters describe her as a reflection of their energy: playful when there’s fun to be had and relaxed when the household settles down. She doesn’t pester them for constant entertainment.
Raven enjoys belly rubs, head scratches, and an invitation to snuggle, but she’s also comfortable doing her own thing. She offers a lovely balance of affection and independence.
An Easygoing Daily Routine
Raven usually wakes around 8 a.m., though she’s flexible and generally waits for her humans to get out of bed. After a potty opportunity, it’s breakfast time. In her foster home, kibble stays available throughout the day, and she prefers to eat small amounts whenever the mood strikes.
Her days include wandering around the house, keeping her people company, enjoying toys, and finding a comfortable spot to rest. She goes on three short walks a day, but after about five to ten minutes, she’s often ready to head home. Why schedule a lengthy expedition when there are perfectly good squeaky toys waiting in the living room?
At bedtime, Raven sleeps peacefully in her crate through the night. There is, however, one small sound effect: she snores like a human. Apparently, her quiet daytime personality requires an overnight soundtrack.
Quiet on Set
Raven has been exceptionally quiet in foster care. Visitors, outings, and time alone have not prompted barking or crying. In fact, she was so quiet during her first few days that her fosters wondered whether she could bark at all.
Then they started imitating dog barks during playtime, and Raven finally offered a tiny bark of her own. Mystery solved: she has a voice. She just doesn’t feel the need to provide running commentary.
She has also been calm when left home alone, whether resting in her crate or spending time in the living room. Her fosters have not observed signs of separation anxiety.
People Are Her Favorite Co-Stars
Raven loves meeting people and greets new friends gently. She has met dogs her size and been calm around them, though she hasn’t shown much interest in playing together. She seems much more interested in human company than canine social networking.
She could be very happy as an only dog, and a calm canine companion may also be a good match. She has not been fostered with cats or children, so we don’t yet have information about those relationships.
A Smart Girl With One Potty Preference
Raven is crate trained and reliably uses potty pads in her foster home. Outdoor potty training is still a work in progress: she enjoys sniffing around the community
