Rotisserie: Brindle Charm, Belly Rubs, and a Playful Plot Twist
1 year old | 18 lbs | Pug mix

Rotisserie has a very important daily agenda: collect belly rubs, follow her favorite person, squeeze in a little mischief, and determine whether it is time for another nap. She takes all four responsibilities seriously.

With her striking brindle coat, expressive eyes, and occasional sleepy tongue peeking out, this 18 lb Pug mix is quite the little dish. But her sweetest feature is how openly she loves people. Approach her kindly, and she may lie down, wag her tail, and invite you to rub her belly. Strangers on walks? Potential friends. People at the mall? More potential friends. Apparently, the world is full of people who have not yet had the pleasure of scratching her ears.

A Little Mischief, With Belly Rubs on the Side

During her first few days in foster care, Rotisserie mostly slept. Now that she has settled in, a wonderfully playful personality is emerging—and this girl has a signature move.

She loves trying to sneak things past her people, but the moment she gets caught, she happily surrenders for belly rubs. When she is especially excited, she will roll over two or three times and invite you to chase her, only to flop onto her back when you catch up. Her version of a high-stakes getaway ends with someone rubbing her tummy. Everybody wins.

Her foster describes her as a darling companion: mild, sweet, rarely barky, and full of little moments that make you smile.

Your Faithful Kitchen Assistant—and Everything Else Assistant

Rotisserie loves being close to her person and follows her foster from room to room. Working? Gardening? Heading down the hall? She would like to come along. She enjoys looking into your eyes while you pet her, as though she is taking your friendship very seriously, and is happiest sharing the ordinary details of your day.

She still appreciates a comfortable place to snooze, but her people are clearly her favorite part of the household.

A Very Flexible Menu

Rotisserie wakes up when her foster does—no strict alarm-clock policy here. She heads outside for a potty opportunity, although she sometimes needs a little time before getting down to business.

Breakfast arrives around 7:30 a.m., with a little yogurt or cottage cheese topping in her current foster home. Backyard exploration, some play, and a morning nap follow. A walk around 9 a.m. is welcome, and she is also happy resting near her foster.

Lunch is around 1:30 p.m. Throughout the day, she enjoys backyard visits, sunny snoozes, and increasingly enthusiastic invitations to play. An evening neighborhood walk comes before her 7:30 p.m. dinner. By about 9 p.m., she is generally ready to wind down, with one last potty trip before bed.

Initially, Rotisserie insisted on sleeping in her foster’s bed. She has since become comfortable in her own bed beside it, keeping her favorite people within easy reach.

Walks Are Lovely. Car Rides? Even Better.

Rotisserie walks nicely on leash and does not pull. In unfamiliar surroundings, she may pause to take things in before continuing. She has calmly passed other dogs, including dogs who were barking or reacting toward her.

She also loves car rides. Once settled in her seat, she may fall asleep and enjoy the trip so much that she is reluctant to get out when everyone returns home. Apparently, “we’re home” is a suggestion she would sometimes like to decline.

While at the shelter, she shared a room with several other dogs and coexisted well with them. At the DPS Safehouse, she met our resident dog-savvy cat and was very polite. She does bark at cats on walks, so a home with cats would require careful, gradual introductions.
