My name is Rupert, and I'm a 4-year-old Dachshund mix with a big heart that's still learning how to be brave.My journey hasn't been an easy one. I was rescued from California earlier this year, along with my brother Stanley. We had always known life with other dogs, and Stanley was definitely the braver of the two of us.When I arrived in Canada, everything was new and a little overwhelming.

I spent some time with a wonderful foster family before being adopted, but unfortunately, I struggled to settle into my new home. After a frightening adventure on my own, I returned to my foster family, where I've been slowly finding my confidence again.And guess what? I'm making progress!I love going for walks, and I'm actually quite comfortable exploring the world outside. It's inside the house where I sometimes get nervous, especially when people move around unexpectedly. I'm learning that I don't have to run away and that the people around me can be trusted.I've started seeking out affection, curling up near my foster family on the couch, and even giving the occasional little tail wag! I've also discovered that if dinner is late, walking across my foster mom's computer keyboard is a pretty effective way to remind her! I'm not much of a toy-playing kind of guy yet, but I'm hoping that as my confidence grows, more of my personality will shine through.So, what kind of forever home am I dreaming of?I'd love a quiet, adult-only home with a gentle, patient person who understands that trust takes time. A single woman might be an especially wonderful match for me, as I tend to feel more comfortable around women, but a calm, understanding couple could be lovely too.I'd be happiest with someone who has experience with shy or fearful rescue dogs, enjoys daily walks, and doesn't expect me to be an instant cuddle bug. Someone living in the Lower Mainland would be best so we could do several meet and greets so we can get to know one another.I need someone who will let me come to them rather than picking me up or pushing me into situations before I'm ready. Someone who celebrates the little victories, like a tail wag, a cuddle I initiate, or the day I decide not to run away when they enter the room.I'm comfortable around other dogs, although I don't necessarily seek out their companionship.
