22. Skye
Meet Skye!
Skye is a 5-year-old German Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix with a heart as big as her smile! When she was first picked up by animal control, she weighed only 43 lbs — but with love and care, she’s now a healthy 55 lbs and ready to find her forever home.
This beautiful girl has a soft, medium-length coat and a gentle spirit. Though she’s still learning to trust and find her confidence, Skye absolutely thrives on praise and affection. She adores kids, enjoys spending time with cats, and is an all-around sweetheart once she feels safe.
Read more about Skye
Skye isn’t a fan of female dogs, so she’d do best as your only pup or with a calm male companion. She did lose part of her right ear and now sports a docked tail after an old scuffle, but don’t worry — it hasn’t slowed her down one bit!
Skye has been spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and tested heartworm negative.
Her adoption fee is $250.
If you’re ready to give this resilient, loving girl the forever home she deserves, come meet Skye today — she’s waiting to steal your heart!

23. Nova
Nova is a 1 year old female Pit mix with beautiful brindle coloring and a joyful, friendly personality that will keep you smiling! This lovely girl has a fun, playful side as well as a wonderful loving nature to share with her lucky family. Nova enjoys stretching her legs with a few zoomies when she first gets into the park, and she loves running alongside the fence to say hello to dogs in nearby play areas. But as much as she enjoys her playtime, being with her favorite people is what makes Nova happiest! Just look at those adoring eyes she gives you, and you'll understand why she is SO easy to love. At around 40 pounds, Nova is a nice, svelte size … and if you're looking for a lap dog, she's more than happy to audition for the job! While she can sometimes be a bit jumpy in her enthusiastic greetings with people, she already knows her Sit command and is learning to greet her human friends more politely. Plus Nova is eager to please, and would love to keep learning with her forever family. One thing to note is that this agile girl can climb a chain link fence … she only tries it when left alone, all so that she can get to her favorite human or doggie friends. This super affectionate, fun-loving girl has so much potential and so much love to give. She's ready to trade shelter life for family adventures, cozy snuggles, and a place to finally call home. Adopting a dog in Hoover
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
