1. Leo
Senior (9 years 8 months) · Male · Rottweiler (short coat) · 25 mi from Humphrey

Leo is a wonderful combination of an older Rottweiler and a puppy! While he prefers hanging out near his favorite human most of all, he loves running around in the yard and making sure his place is protected. He loves to ride in the car. He has not shown any interest in the pool at his foster mom’s house so far.
Read more about Leo
Leo currently lives with two other Rotties, one male and one female, and his foster mom. They all get along well unless his canine friends try to take his treats or favorite ball. Leo seems to like the companionship of other dogs but would do just as well with an owner who has lots of time to devote to him. He’s looking for people to trust but meets everyone with curiosity and a tail wag. Having experienced neglect in the past, Leo is very food driven. At 90 lbs., he’s at a good weight and some care will need to be taken that he isn’t allowed to routinely overeat.
Leo is a gentleman in the house, never having accidents and not chewing on anything except his own toys, even if out of his crate unsupervised. He behaves pretty well on a leash but will need work on that. He does know basic commands and learns household routines quickly.

While Bobo enjoys going for walks, he’s really a homebody at heart. His perfect day includes playing with his toys, chewing on a favorite bone, curling up for snuggles, and simply spending time with his people. He is the ultimate cuddle bug and loves being part of the family.
His foster family has cherished every single day with him and say that they feel so lucky to have been part of his journey. Now, he’s ready for the next chapter—finding the loving family and forever home he deserves.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion, a best friend, and a world-class snuggler, this boy may be the perfect match.

3. Santa
Young (1 year 11 months) · Male · Rottweiler (short coat) · 25 mi from Humphrey

Meet Santa — the Christmas miracle
Santa came into the world unwanted. When he stumbled onto our property last Christmas, he was barely hanging on — skin and bones, severely emaciated and dehydrated, covered in fleas. Around his neck was a thick, filthy rope pulled so tight it had cut into him, leaving scarring that has taken months to heal. He had chewed clean through that rope himself, fighting to free himself just to survive. And of all the days to come scratching at a stranger's door, he chose Christmas — so that's the name he earned: Santa, the gift none of us saw coming.

From that broken beginning, what he's become is nothing short of remarkable. He arrived heartworm positive, dangerously underweight, and battling a nasty respiratory infection, and he's spent every month since in foster care doing the hard work of getting healthy. Through all of it — every vet visit, every setback — he never stopped being sweet, trusting, and gentle. He came out the other side with his nub wagging.
These days, Santa is exactly what you'd hope a young Rottweiler would be: a big, sweet, affectionate boy with a playful streak. He's got energy to burn when the fun starts, but he gases out quick — a good romp and he's ready to flop down and relax. His happy place is the pool: he loves stretching out on the step to cool off, and he's even started venturing into the water (his swimming's a work in progress, but he's game).
He's a ball dog through and through — give him a ball to chase and carry around and he's a happy guy. He also does wonderfully with other dogs; he's playful and a great fit with our own pack, so a confident canine sibling would suit him well.
But more than anything, Santa is pure affection.
He's got what we call a smooshy face — super squishy and sweet — and he knows how to use it. He'll do the classic Rottie lean, putting his full weight against the people he loves, and he wants nothing more than to be in your arms or laid against your side getting pet. A ball and a spot next to you out in the sun is, hands down, his favorite thing in the world.

4. Remi
Young (1 year 11 months) · Female · Rottweiler (short coat) · 25 mi from Humphrey

Get ready to fall in love with Remi, a delightful female Rottweiler who's looking for her forever home! This petite 50-pound pup may be small in size, but she's got a big personality and an even bigger heart. At just over a year old, Remi is still very much a puppy at heart, and her curiosity and playful spirit will keep you on your toes. Remi is an affectionate and friendly girl who loves to greet everyone she meets. When you bend down, whether to pick something up or put on your shoes, she will come up and give you lots of kisses. At breakfast and dinner time she can’t contain how excited she is and will dance around you.
Read more about Remi
She's active and playful in the mornings, always up for a game of zoomies or a gentle game of fetch with her favorite toy, the Kong. But as the afternoon rolls around, Remi transforms into a laid-back and gentle dog, content to snuggle up in her bed and enjoy some quiet time. She's a smart cookie, too, and knows basic commands like sit, come, and stay. One of Remi's unique quirks is her love for soft toys, but be warned she tends to confuse them with tasty treats!. Remi is good in the car, does not bark, unless warranted, is not afraid of thunder or loud noises and walks good on a leash. She prefers her bed or the floor and does not get up on furniture. She is crate-trained and house-trained and does best with a consistent schedule. She's also up to date on all her vaccines and heartworm/flea treatments, so you can rest assured that she's a healthy and happy girl. What sets Remi apart is her sensitivity and responsiveness to gentle correction. She's a gentle soul who thrives with positive reinforcement.

Adopting a dog in Humphrey
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
