I'm a one year old, neutered, Pitbull mix, who weighs about 62lbs. I'm a sweet and good natured guy that has moments of being a bit of a rascal. I can't help it; I'm still a young guy. At the same time, I will roll over for belly rubs at every opportunity. Just call me a Sour Patch Kid. Sometimes I'm sweet and sometimes I'm feisty. I'm hoping for a family that is prepared to give me tons of exercise, playtime, training and of course, love! I get really excited when meeting people, so I may be a little too boisterous for some young children. If you have a dog, please be sure to bring him or her in to meet with me prior to adding me to the family. I'm still learning to share, so I'm hoping for a family that understands how to navigate multidog households. 8. Lola

Adult (2 years) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Bulldog / Mixed (short coat) · 2 mi from Burlingame

Hi there, I'm Lola! I am an almost two year old, spayed female, Pit Bull terrier Bulldog mix who weighs around 56 pounds. I am a flirty gal who loves soft toys, and will show you my faves, often bringing them right up to you and asking for compliments. I am a bit of a stubborn lady at times, and would benefit going home with folks who have had some experience, as I could be a bit too much for someone's first doggo. I also will be a bit too bouncy for small kids, so 10 plus or dog savvy kiddos please. I also enjoy the company of some dogs- playdates are fun, but dog parks are not my vibe. If you are looking for a fun, sweet companion to spend your time and give all your love to- maybe I'm the gal for ya? Come on down and ask about me- Lola ID#A0975201.

I recently went on a few sleepovers with a PHS Volunteer! Here's how I did:

Ziggy did great during his sleepovers! He also did well with his foster's grandkids (ages 8 and 10). He's potty trained and had no accidents in the home! He enjoyed walks around the neighborhood and is a total couch potato. His favorite cuddle spot is the couch. His foster also noted that he can do stairs but a bit wobbly and needs a little assistance. Ziggy is a sweet and affectionate boy!

10. Augie

Young (11 months) · Male · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 2 mi from Burlingame

Howdy! My name is Augie and I'm an 11-month-old, neutered, Pitbull mix that currently weighs about 50lbs. I am a friendly guy that starts off a bit shy and cautious. Because of this, I prefer adult-only households or ones with teens or older. Once I'm comfortable, my playful and energetic side comes out and I'll happily show off by running zoomies! I'm still young, so I'll need lots of guidance as I settle into my new home. I can be a little unsure of new things, but with patience, reassurance, and a little time, I'll definitely blossom into a wonderful, interactive companion. If I sound like the right fit, please have everyone in the family including any resident dogs come and meet me before taking me home with you. Augie ID#: A0991533

Read more about Augie

I've spent some time in foster care! Here's an update from my foster family:

Augie is a sweet, affectionate and energetic pup who is learning how wonderful life in a loving home can be. Once he feels safe, his playful personality shines—he loves cuddles, head and ear massages, lounging beside his people, exploring outdoors, playing with dog friends and, of course, zoomies!
Augie is smart and eager to learn. He knows several basic cues, is crate trained, walks nicely when calm, and is making great progress with house-training. He can be cautious in new situations and feels most secure when his trusted humans are nearby. Augie is still a young, strong puppy who needs continued training, structure and socialization. He can pull and lunge toward dogs and squirrels on walks, gets very excited and mouthy during play, and is an enthusiastic chewer. For these reasons, Augie would thrive in an experienced, adult-only home, ideally with a secure backyard and plenty of opportunities for exercise and enrichment. His adopters should be comfortable handling a strong dog and committed to positive behavior training. Augie has already come such a long way. He now understands the comfort of a home, regular meals, walks, cuddles and kindness—and, most importantly, he knows what it feels like to be loved. With patience and continued training, Augie has all the potential to become a wonderfully loyal and loving companion.

I recently spent time in an office with a PHS friend! Here's how it went:

Abigail went on an adventure today; she visited a staff member’s office and did great! As she was headed out and about, she met up with a few staff members who she didn’t know and went right up to say hi! She was super interested in exploring once inside the office, checking all the nooks and crannies for treats. Once she had done her perimeter sweep, she was happy to settle on her bed to play with a few toys or take a nap throughout the afternoon. She was always eager to greet and say hi to anyone who happened to stop by. She was a super star.

iscuit is such a lover. She takes a little to warm up but once she bonds she bonds quickly and shows it- she loves deeply with wiggles to match. Her potty training is going great' she learned quickly how to use the doggy door. She loves her morning walk but also is very content to do a quick potty and snuggle. She’s gotten along well with the resident dog, sometimes being a bit bossy, but at others wanting to play. She’s easy but prefers avoiding the big dogs and is choosy of small dogs. She’s very easy to handle and allows you to dress her up in cozy sweaters. She’s working on basic commands and just learned sit! 19. Lucy

Adult (7 years 1 month) · Female · Chihuahua / Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat) · 13 mi from Burlingame

Lucy is a 7–8‑year‑old, 12‑lb female dog who was scheduled for euthanasia on September 23, 2026. A last‑minute social media post prompted two Grateful Dogs Rescue volunteers to intervene, allowing her to leave the shelter safely. And what a change! She is now a fun, goofy, food loving dog that will control you with her chocolately eyes!

Read more about Lucy

Lucy is a quiet, gentle dog who enjoys a nice quiet home; she's hanging with two other chihuahuas and does great with them. Lucy did meet some cats and no one seemed to care so yes, we'd say she can live with cats! She enjoys spending long periods in the garden and relaxing in the sun. Indoors, she likes laps, soft sofas, and rearranging throw pillows.

She is potty trained, uses a doggy door, and will use a potty pad at night. Lucy walks well on leash and enjoys slow neighborhood strolls. She may initially appear aloof for a few minutes, but she warms up quickly and accepts gentle affection. She rides well in the car.

Lucy is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and recently had a wellness exam. Based on her condition, her age estimate was revised from 10 years to 7–8 years old. She also had a major dental procedure and is now fully ready for adoption.

20. Rocky

Adult (7 years 1 month) · Male · Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 13 mi from Burlingame

Rocky is a cute Jack-Chi mix. Full disclosure: He gets his perky look from the chihuahua side, but his behavior is 100% Jack Russell. Rocky is looking for an active home with a family who can give him firm consistent discipline, plenty of play time, and an ability to see the good heart inside a feisty dog. Also no small children and no male dogs in the household please.

In his foster setting, Rocky is sweet, loving, and funny. But sadly he and the resident male dog have irreconcilable differences.

All that said ... when Rocky finds the right home, he will be your best friend forever!

Read more about Rocky

Rocky would be a great farm, ranch, or barn dog (watch). Jack Russells are famous for enjoying livestock. Got a horse? Rocky will help out around the barn or pasture!

He also thrives indoors on ear scritches and neck rubs (watch),

chilling while you work, or going out for walks in your favorite city. He is cheerful, fearless, and well trained on leash.

He is in love with his little green tennis ball & can play fetch (watch) for ... well ... a long time

He will entertain himself with games he makes up himself. Like dropping his ball into a shoe (watch) to see if he can get it back.

He will bark angrily at windshield wipers (watch) and UPS trucks, but nibble his "Mr. Lamb" toy with the tenderness of a new father.

Rocky likes both men and women, as long as they are active and confident.

Rocky

walks beautifully on a leash but does not know basic commands like "sit" or "stay'. That said, he is very treat-motivated and young enough to still learn new tricks.

How to adopt from Coppers Dream

Step 1. Submit the Adoption Application We operate on a first come, first served basis measured from when you submit your application. We try to review apps within 24 hours. Submit your completed application by email to jill@coppersdream.org. Once approved, you'll be given the contact info for the dog's foster family. GET THE ADOPTION APP Step 2. Schedule a Meeting with the Foster Family The first person to submit an application for a particular pup will be given priority to adopt, assuming they can meet at the earliest time that the foster family can accommodate them. If you can't meet a dog immediately, and other applicants are able to, then it's possible other applicants will be given priority to adopt. Why? We don't want our dogs to miss out on a home, when there's many more shelter pups waiting in the wings for a spot in our rescue. Step 3. Arrive at the Meeting with a Leash and Collar If the foster family approves of the adoption at the end of your meeting, you'll be allowed to take the dog home with you (yay!), so it's best to come prepared with a leash and collar. If you don't bring your own supplies, you may be able to purchase Copper's Dream supplies for a $20 donation ($10 for the leash and $10 for the collar). Step 4. Receive Adoption Paperwork: Within 48 hours of adopting you'll receive their official adoption contract and vaccination/medical history through email.

How to adopt from Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA

When a potential adopter comes into the shelter and sees an animal he or she is interested in adopting, we ask the potential adopter to first complete an Adoption Profile. Then, one of our knowledgeable customer service representatives brings the adopter and animal together in one of our Get Acquainted Rooms. There they have a quiet, private space to get to know each other better. During the visit, the customer service representative may discuss the following: past experiences with animals and current animals in the home lifestyle, including work schedule and the kinds of activities they plan to do with their companion animal housing situation - own or rent, size of yard, etc. In order to make the best match possible for a family and home, we suggest potential adopters bring along all members of the household to meet the new companion animal and bring their current dog(s) to meet a potential dog. Adopters must also be 18 or older.

Adopting a dog in Burlingame

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
