Sterling is a super sweet 7 month old petite male who greets everyone with a loving gaze and welcoming tail wag. In his foster home he loves to follow his foster parents around and loves to be near them for pets and cuddles. He is really affectionate.
Sterling is very well mannered, loose in the house with the resident dog and is neither destructive nor noisy. He plays nicely with toys and goes outside to do his business. He loves to ride in the car and go for walks to discover all the things in life that are new to him. He will be a wonderful walking, hiking, or jogging partner!

Luna is a sweet 1 year old female, who came to us through a Good Samaritan. She is well-mannered. Gets along with cats, older kids, and a free-flying parrot. Luna is housetrained and crate trained, though she's not using her crate with this foster. She likes car rides and walks in the neighborhood. She is on the smaller side, about 40 lbs. She gets along with other dogs, with a proper introduction. She likes to hold a tennis ball, not necessasarily chase one. She's nice to her toys and blankets, keeping them intact for the most part.

GSRNC was asked to take Alastor in and one of our amazing fosters stepped up. Alastor is being well cared for, he is being given time to heal and grow a little, His foster parent will ease into working with his manners and skills as he learns more about Alastor each day. He is about 4 months old. Alastor is a level 4/4 and any adopter will need to be puppy approved.
7. Tioga OAS
8 Months · Female · German Shepherd Dog · 11 mi from East Palo Alto

Tioga is a happy, well-adjusted, six-month-old puppy. She is friendly to everyone she meets on two or four feet. She is housebroken and quickly learning basic commands and the rules of the house. While she does have typical puppy behaviors (all unattended shoes beware) and energy, she is generally very well behaved. She sleeps in her crate at night, but doesn't go into it on her own yet. She is mostly oblivious to and unconcerned with her two cat foster siblings. She really loves playing with her three-year-old foster GSD sister. Tioga has minimal prey drive, ignoring squirrels and other animals. She will make a great addition to a home with a dog, but is confident and independent enough to be an only dog. She needs an owner ready and willing to spend the time and energy to help her be her best dog self
8. Remington
Senior (9 years 11 months) · Male · German Shorthaired Pointer (short coat) · 12 mi from East Palo Alto

At 10 years old, Remington has settled into foster care beautifully and is showing everyone what a great companion a senior GSP can be. He’s easygoing, has a good personality, and gets along well with just about everyone he meets.
Remington enjoys his daily walks, playing with toys, spending time with his people, and hanging out with other dogs. He’s also a big fan of car rides and is happy to come along for the adventure. His favorite toys are stuffed animals that make noise—although he’s not particularly picky about which one!
Read more about Remington
Remi is house-trained and knows sit, stay, and down. He’s also learning that the crate can be a comfortable place to relax and has recently started going in on his own to rest. When left alone for short periods, he settles calmly within a few minutes and does well staying inside the house.
On walks, Remington may wander from side to side at the beginning, and then he gets into the rhythm of things. His current daily exercise routine is just right for him.
Remington enjoys people and gets along well with children. He has been around kids ranging in age from 9 to 18 and has done well with them. He also gets along well with other dogs and could be happy as either an only dog or with a canine companion.
One important consideration is fencing. Remington has jumped a fence in the past, so he will need a tall, sturdy, secure fence at his new home. He hasn’t attempted to jump the fence lately in foster care, but his new family should take this seriously, especially as he gets adjusted to his new digs.
Remington would do especially well with someone who works from home, is retired, or is semi-retired and can spend plenty of time with him. He’s a well-settled, easygoing guy who enjoys companionship without being demanding.
If you’re looking for a mature GSP with a great personality, good manners, and plenty of life left to enjoy, Remington may be your guy.

10. Buddy
Senior (10 years 11 months) · Male · German Shorthaired Pointer (short coat) · 12 mi from East Palo Alto

Buddy is a senior GSP with a youthful spirit, a big personality, and an even bigger love of being close to his people. At 57 pounds, this sweet, affectionate guy is happiest when he’s right beside you—preferably snuggled up as close as physically possible. He gives intense little kisses, loves attention, and would happily make himself your full-time cuddle buddy.
Read more about Buddy
Don’t let his senior status fool you! Buddy is active and playful. He enjoys walks, indoor ball games, and especially his stuffed toys. Before his neuter, he was enjoying 1.5-mile walks with plenty of hills, so he can keep up with an active household. He pulls a little on leash but is manageable, and he knows or is learning sit, wait, and come.
Buddy is wonderfully easygoing with the world around him. He has done great with dogs, cats, and children and isn’t bothered by normal household noises. He lives with both an energetic dog and cats, and he simply ignores the cats—even sleeping next to them in bed. When his canine foster brother gets pushy or barky, Buddy doesn’t engage; he just carries on with his day. He’s also been great with an energetic, loud, and unpredictable 8-year-old and a calmer 10-year-old kid. He loves car rides and hasn’t shown an interest in chasing squirrels.
He’s house-trained and has done well having the run of the house while his foster family is away for up to eight hours. He may howl when his people first leave or when he can see them outside, but once they’re actually gone, he settles down. This has continued to improve since Buddy first arrived (although an apartment or other close-quarters living situation probably isn’t the best fit). He also did fine in a crate at the veterinary clinic.
Now, let’s talk about Buddy’s special talents. He is an expert at getting under the covers. You can barricade the bed and tuck everything in, but somehow he’ll find his way beneath the blankets—and may leave a little drool on your pillow for good measure. Consider it part of the Buddy experience!
Buddy prefers to have a say in how he’s handled and isn’t a fan of being restrained, especially at the vet. He’ll need sedation for nail trims to keep the experience as stress-free as possible. He can also be protective of things in his mouth and isn’t always cooperative about taking medication, so a patient approach and a little creativity may be helpful. Understanding his preferences and giving him space when needed will help him feel comfortable and secure. Buddy has been diagnosed with mitral valve disease/heart murmur (does not need medications) and has some age-related lumps and bumps. He recently had a dental cleaning and is all spruced up for his next home!
Overall, Buddy is a lovely, affectionate, easygoing companion with plenty of personality and a real talent for snuggling. He’s good with dogs, cats, and kids, enjoys his walks and toys, and is happy to share his home with his favorite people. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will keep you company, make you laugh, and probably steal your pillow, Buddy could be just the dog for you. Just remember to leave room under the covers!
Adoption fee: $250 for seniors (nine years and up). If you are a prior adopter, you can add a Great Senior Pooch to your family for free! Your adoption includes a post-adoption training allowance.

11. Alvin
Adult (3 years 11 months) · Male · German Shorthaired Pointer (short coat) · 12 mi from East Palo Alto

At 4 years old and 61 pounds of pure muscle, Alvin is a GSP in his prime: smart, athletic and ready for adventure. He also has an excellent “off switch” and a soft spot for a good snuggle.
Inside the house, Alvin is calm and very affectionate. His foster mom says he “melts in your hands” when you scratch his ears. He loves to cuddle, nap, and be close to his people. Once he’s outside, his (typical GSP) energetic side comes out. He loves long walks and would be a great partner for a runner, hiker, or anyone who wants a four-legged companion on outdoor adventures.
Read more about Alvin
Alvin LOVES people. Kids, teens, grandparents, even a party of 20+: he’s happy to meet everyone. Our trainer has been impressed by his manners: he greeted her politely without jumping, sat when asked, and was curious about her treats without being pushy. She called him “extremely biddable,” so he should be a joy to train with food and affection as rewards.
He also adores his foster family’s Sphynx cat. He’s curious about cats outside and has a strong GSP prey drive for birds and squirrels, so a feline sibling could work depending on the cat.
Alvin’s road to rescue was a hard one. He was found injured on the side of a road, then moved between several short-term foster homes. With all that stress, he had a rough start with other (resident) dogs. Our trainer describes him as “a mature and skilled dog communicator”: he’s clear about when he needs space, and he does best with people who read and respect his signals.
Alvin’s ideal home:
Active people who want an athletic dog for walks, runs, outdoor fun, and are able to keep up with his energy
Adopters who understand dog body language, or want to learn, and will keep up with training (leash skills, recall, impulse control)
Only dog at this time. A second dog in the home may be considered in the future
A tall, secure fence (he has cleared 6′ fences!) or a jump-deterrent like a coyote roller
Alvin has been through a lot. What he needs now is a stable home where he can settle in and be the loving, cuddly companion he already is.
Other notes: Alvin is likely able to live successfully with cats. Dog-savvy kids are preferred. He is able to be around other dogs if supervised but not yet ready to live with another dog.
Adoption fee: $425 (includes a post-adoption training allowance). Training will be required.

12. Ace
Senior (10 years 6 months) · Male · German Shorthaired Pointer (short coat) · 12 mi from East Palo Alto

Meet Ace!
At 10 1/2 years young and 65 pounds, Ace is proof that age is just a number. This handsome boy is sweet, polite, friendly, and already knows how to be a great housemate. He’s fully housetrained, has good manners around the house, and is happiest when he’s spending time with his people.
Ace enjoys a simple life filled with walks, exploring the yard, carrying around his favorite stuffed toys, and keeping an eye out for squirrels and other backyard critters. He especially loves car rides and is always ready to join you for an adventure. When treats are involved, Ace can even show off his impressive skill of catching them right out of the air.
He’s a smart dog who knows cues such as “come,” “sit,” “wait,” and “get on.” On leash, Ace is easy to walk and enjoys getting out for daily exercise, though he wouldn’t mind a few extra opportunities to stretch his legs and strengthen his hind end.
Ace gets along well with other dogs and has a friendly, easygoing personality with the people he meets.
Read more about Ace
While his foster family hasn’t had the opportunity to see him around young children, he would likely do well with respectful kids ages 6 and up. Because he’s a larger dog who can be enthusiastic when seeing wildlife and critters on walks, a home without frail seniors or very small children would be the best fit.
What Ace wants most is companionship. He forms strong bonds with his people and prefers not to spend long periods alone. He’ll thrive in a home where someone is home much of the time, works remotely, or enjoys bringing their dog along for daily activities. When left by himself, Ace can become anxious and vocal, so he’ll do best with adopters who understand his desire to stay close to his favorite humans.
Ace also has a few medical needs that his future family should be aware of. He has mast cell tumors on his right shoulder and left wrist that are being managed under veterinary guidance. He takes daily medications and supplements to help keep him comfortable and feeling his best. His adoption will include 6 months of the medications and supplements.
Despite these challenges, Ace approaches life with a happy spirit and a wagging tail. He’s settled nicely into foster care, loves being part of the household, and is ready to find a family that will appreciate the loyal, affectionate companion he is.
If you’re looking for a devoted best friend who will happily accompany you on car rides, neighborhood walks, and quiet evenings at home, Ace may be the perfect match.

Hi there! My name is Scruff. I am a 2-year-old, neutered male, long-haired Dachshund mix who currently weighs about 13 lbs. While I'm a bit on the shy side at first, give me time and I will show to have a level of sweetness that will sweep you off your feet. I do have a thing for exploring when I'm out and about in the world, but once I'm done enjoying the best snifaris, I will certainly relax for the loveliest of pets to my handsome coat. I'm still working on my doggy social skills and may do best as an only dog with a family with kids 10 years or older. If you're interested in adding me to your home, please bring in the entire household, including any mellow, well-matched resident dogs to meet with me.

How to adopt from Coppers Dream
Step 1. Submit the Adoption Application We operate on a first come, first served basis measured from when you submit your application. We try to review apps within 24 hours. Submit your completed application by email to jill@coppersdream.org. Once approved, you'll be given the contact info for the dog's foster family. GET THE ADOPTION APP Step 2. Schedule a Meeting with the Foster Family The first person to submit an application for a particular pup will be given priority to adopt, assuming they can meet at the earliest time that the foster family can accommodate them. If you can't meet a dog immediately, and other applicants are able to, then it's possible other applicants will be given priority to adopt. Why? We don't want our dogs to miss out on a home, when there's many more shelter pups waiting in the wings for a spot in our rescue. Step 3. Arrive at the Meeting with a Leash and Collar If the foster family approves of the adoption at the end of your meeting, you'll be allowed to take the dog home with you (yay!), so it's best to come prepared with a leash and collar. If you don't bring your own supplies, you may be able to purchase Copper's Dream supplies for a $20 donation ($10 for the leash and $10 for the collar). Step 4. Receive Adoption Paperwork: Within 48 hours of adopting you'll receive their official adoption contract and vaccination/medical history through email.

When a potential adopter comes into the shelter and sees an animal he or she is interested in adopting, we ask the potential adopter to first complete an Adoption Profile. Then, one of our knowledgeable customer service representatives brings the adopter and animal together in one of our Get Acquainted Rooms. There they have a quiet, private space to get to know each other better. During the visit, the customer service representative may discuss the following: past experiences with animals and current animals in the home lifestyle, including work schedule and the kinds of activities they plan to do with their companion animal housing situation - own or rent, size of yard, etc. In order to make the best match possible for a family and home, we suggest potential adopters bring along all members of the household to meet the new companion animal and bring their current dog(s) to meet a potential dog. Adopters must also be 18 or older.

Adopting a dog in East Palo Alto
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
