1. Bisquit
Adult · Male · Whippet / Mixed (short coat) · 22 mi from Mojave

Bisquit and a few little dogs were found abandoned on a property and brought to the Lancaster shelter. All his companions got adopted just poor Biscuit was left behind and put on the euthanasia list after he had been at the shelter for over a month. We were alerted about him and his story and from what we learned about his behavior we could not let him die in there, so off we went and saved his life.He is just the best dog! Sweet, mellow and so well behaved. His size is also perfect, not too small and not too big. :) he is also very dignified and likes to cross his legs when he is laying down.He was an abnormality in his skull, where the muscles have atrophied around his eyes and jaw.

We had him checked out by our vet who did a blood test to test him for a serious disease that could have caused this but luckily the test came back negative. We don't really know what could have caused this deformity but it doesn't seem to impair him in any way. He is acting like a completely normal dog and loves to hang with all his dog friends here at Paw Parent. But what he really would love most is to call a family his own. He gets attached fast and deep and is very loyal. He gets along with all dogs and he is housebroken. What mire do you want? He is perfect, please hurry before he is being snatched up by someone else! The shelter guessed his age at about 4, his weight is 37 pounds, he is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and ready for his new adventure with his own new family. Please call 661-724-0642 or email us at pawparent@gmail.com if you want to meet him.

2. Cowboy
Senior · Male · Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat) · 22 mi from Mojave

Paw Parent facilitated Cowboy's rescue from the Lancaster shelter in 2014. He was adopted by a couple that gave him a stable loving home until they ended in divorce this year and poor Cowboy became the innocent victim. Paw Parent was contacted and we welcomed him with open arms. How could we not? He is a 14 year old treasure, incredibly sweet with not a mean bone in his body.A couple of months after his arrival he started to have glaucoma in his left eye that did not respond to medication and got worse quickly. Glaucoma is not curable and treatment would be life long with no guarantee that the eye could be stabilized, so we made the difficult decision to have the eye removed.

He has recovered beautifully and is back to his happy go lucky sweet personality. His greeting when I come home is so heartwarming, he is so overjoyed that he literally serenades me with a beautiful song. He gets along with all the dogs here, is gentle, mellow and an absolute delight to have around. Unfortunately he cannot come to adoptions with us because he gets car sick. He is so deserving of a second chance of a home where he can live out his golden years. Will it be yours? He is neutered, microchipped and current on all his vaccines. Please call us at 661-724-0642 or email us pawparent@gmail.com if you would like to meet him.

How to adopt from Paw Parent
After someone has found a pet of her or his liking on our site and contacted us we will make sure to get back to that person as soon as possible. We require a potential adopter to fill out an application. If the application is satisfactory we will contact the prospective new parent to set up a time to meet with the pet. We also do home checks to make sure that the house or apartment the pet will go to is safe. The pet will be brought to your home at the time of the home check and if everything looks goes well the pet will be left with you. We are asking for an adoption fee and we also will have you sign a contract. We allow a two week trial period during which the money will be refunded if it turnes out to not be a match. After the two week period the adoption fee is not refundable.

Adopting a dog in Mojave
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
