Young · Female · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat) · 22 mi from Morro Bay

Albina is a cattle dog mix, about 8 months old. Albina was living in an encampment in Perris Valley with lots of people and other dogs. She has been habituated to live closely, very closely with humans. She was not anxious at all settling in with the other rescue dogs.
Albina is learning to join the new pack. She's walking well on leash, a natural off leash. And as of today, officially trained to run to a metal coaches whistle. Sahe is Very sweet, and good with dogs; she does like them to be polite though. She rides well in a car.

7. Streak

Young · Female · Border Collie (medium coat) · 22 mi from Morro Bay

Streak is a one-year old Border Collie. She came into rescue with her momma dog and a sibling, but they will be adopted out separately. Streak is around 35 pounds.
All three, what can we say, Border Collies have a definite theme. Calm, sweet, loyal, smart and sweet (Said it twice for a reason!) Maybe occasionally there are exceptions, but these three fit the definition of a Border Collie. And they did have great breeding. It's obvious.
Sweet, soft, looking to connect, each one has had her muzzle my face, searching. trying to forge a bond. Every border collie is ultimately looking for that bond with their human.
Streak is good with all the other dogs.

9. Zeke

Young · Male · Australian Shepherd / Mixed (long coat) · 22 mi from Morro Bay

Welcome Xicaru (pron Zee-kah-roo) from Bakersfield Animal Care Center. Xicaru means “beautiful” in the Zapotec language of Oaxaca…and beautiful he is. This 1 year, 51lb Aussie mix isn’t just all looks - he’s a sweet, sweet boy. We’re calling him Zeke for short.
He’s playful, dog social, and people friendly. Sorry feline people, no cats. Otherwise, he’s a no-brainer. Zeke recently attended a 2 week board and train with his foster / dog trainer. She’s got him dialed in and is looking to pass the torch to a calm and confident, breed savvy leader as he transitions into a forever home.
He’s more than a pretty face.

Read more about Zeke

He’s a herder with real drive so he’ll need someone knowledgeable to help him scratch that itch. Zeke is also a very relationship oriented dog who thrives when he knows what’s expected of him, while also being honest that he’d prefer to be someone’s one and only. He’s done well with 95% of the dogs he’s met, but without a confident leader savvy in pack dynamics, he’ll take advantage. He’s also sensitive to wheeled objects - bikes, scooters, strollers. He’d be a great canine companion, either as an only or with another compatible dog. He tends to prefer female dogs. He’s crate trained, potty trained, knows basic obedience, and more. He is not cat friendly.
Zeke is microchipped, neutered, and UTD on vaccines.
Zeke is in Visalia.

Adopting a dog in Morro Bay

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
