1. Francine

Young · Female · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 79 mi from Turlock

FRANCINE – White Female Mix, 11 Months, 105 lbs.
Have you been waiting for a SPECIAL dog? Meet the sweetest girl EVER!
Francine is an 11-month-old, 105-pound Pyrenees, Hound and Golden Retriever mix! How do we know? Well, we were really curious (mainly because of the length of her ears), so we did it! And if we do it, we're going to tell you! Besides, we're pretty sure you see what we saw. There's no Labrador in there!
How, what, why, when and where? Here you go!
Francine was surrendered to LRRF, and based on the picture we were sent, we kinda figured! But we're only human, and if you've followed us for any length of time, you know depending on the situation the dog is in, we just can't help ourselves!

Read more about Francine

Francine had been living outside in a rural area, pretty much on her own, since she was just 8 weeks old. She had free roam of the property of a quite elderly lady who had been handed this puppy at a local flea market. The family realized Francine deserved so much more and reached out to us.
We have been SO impressed with Frannie! She is completely house-trained and has mastered the doggy door. It took a week or two for her to feel completely comfortable inside her foster home, but she has very quickly figured out that being an inside dog is actually pretty wonderful!
Let's talk personality!
Francine is extremely docile, lovable and just an all-around sweetheart. She is amazing with the 10 other dogs in her foster home and has absolutely loved being the younger pups' personal chew toy! She does wonderfully with dogs of all sizes and is both food and toy friendly.
There are no cats in her foster home, but we've been told she's a bit afraid of them! There are also no children in the home, but based on her temperament and what we've seen, we think she would do well with kids of all ages.
Now, let's talk about Francine's little challenge!
A leash is currently foreign to her. She HATES the leash! She rides well in the car, but getting her there is still a work in progress! We know from experience it takes patients, time and consistency to learn leash skills when you have never been on one. This is a work in progress.
She likes her holes, she especially likes mud and rain, and she's perfectly happy doing her own thing outdoors.
Country Girl!
If you love BIG dogs and are ready for a pretty special one, Francine might just be your girl!
Please fill out an adoption application on our website at www.labrescuefresno.org and ask for Frannie!

4. Daisy

Young (3 years) · Female · Dachshund / Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 61 mi from Turlock

Meet Daisy!

At just 28 lbs, Daisy is a little bundle of sweetness with a big heart! She’s approximately 2–3 years old, and while her breed is anyone’s guess, her wonderful personality is no mystery.

Daisy is a friendly, social, easygoing girl who loves being around her people. She’s gentle and relaxed with both people and dogs, and has done wonderfully with the dogs she’s met so far. She’s even discovering the fun of playing tug-of-war with her canine friends!

Read more about Daisy

She’s affectionate without being demanding and loves being close to her humans. Belly rubs, cuddles, doggy kisses (she might even try to sneak you a little kiss on the lips!), and simply hanging out together are right up her alley.

Daisy enjoys walks, car rides, running at the park, and rolling around in the grass. She’s also a lovely houseguest: fully potty trained, crate trained, sleeps well through the night, and is beginning to enjoy playing independently with her toys.

She’s not particularly food-motivated and would much rather have your company, but peanut butter, cheese, or a little broth on her kibble can certainly get her attention!

And good news for cat lovers: Daisy has been tested with cats in a home environment and passed her cat test!

Daisy would do well in an active household, with or without another friendly dog. She’s an adaptable, affectionate girl who would love a family to call her own.

If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle, 28-lb companion who will happily share your walks, your couch, and probably a few kisses, Daisy might just be your girl! ❤️

6. Remington

Senior (9 years 11 months) · Male · German Shorthaired Pointer (short coat) · 81 mi from Turlock

At 10 years old, Remington has settled into foster care beautifully and is showing everyone what a great companion a senior GSP can be. He’s easygoing, has a good personality, and gets along well with just about everyone he meets.

Remington enjoys his daily walks, playing with toys, spending time with his people, and hanging out with other dogs. He’s also a big fan of car rides and is happy to come along for the adventure. His favorite toys are stuffed animals that make noise—although he’s not particularly picky about which one!

Read more about Remington

Remi is house-trained and knows sit, stay, and down. He’s also learning that the crate can be a comfortable place to relax and has recently started going in on his own to rest. When left alone for short periods, he settles calmly within a few minutes and does well staying inside the house.

On walks, Remington may wander from side to side at the beginning, and then he gets into the rhythm of things. His current daily exercise routine is just right for him.

Remington enjoys people and gets along well with children. He has been around kids ranging in age from 9 to 18 and has done well with them. He also gets along well with other dogs and could be happy as either an only dog or with a canine companion.

One important consideration is fencing. Remington has jumped a fence in the past, so he will need a tall, sturdy, secure fence at his new home. He hasn’t attempted to jump the fence lately in foster care, but his new family should take this seriously, especially as he gets adjusted to his new digs.

Remington would do especially well with someone who works from home, is retired, or is semi-retired and can spend plenty of time with him. He’s a well-settled, easygoing guy who enjoys companionship without being demanding.

If you’re looking for a mature GSP with a great personality, good manners, and plenty of life left to enjoy, Remington may be your guy.

Adoption fee: $250 for seniors (nine years and up). If you are a prior adopter, you can add a Great Senior Pooch to your family for free! Your adoption includes a post-adoption training allowance.

Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/

7. Buddy

Senior (10 years 11 months) · Male · German Shorthaired Pointer (short coat) · 81 mi from Turlock

Buddy is a senior GSP with a youthful spirit, a big personality, and an even bigger love of being close to his people. At 57 pounds, this sweet, affectionate guy is happiest when he’s right beside you—preferably snuggled up as close as physically possible. He gives intense little kisses, loves attention, and would happily make himself your full-time cuddle buddy.

Read more about Buddy

Don’t let his senior status fool you! Buddy is active and playful. He enjoys walks, indoor ball games, and especially his stuffed toys. Before his neuter, he was enjoying 1.5-mile walks with plenty of hills, so he can keep up with an active household. He pulls a little on leash but is manageable, and he knows or is learning sit, wait, and come.

Buddy is wonderfully easygoing with the world around him. He has done great with dogs, cats, and children and isn’t bothered by normal household noises. He lives with both an energetic dog and cats, and he simply ignores the cats—even sleeping next to them in bed. When his canine foster brother gets pushy or barky, Buddy doesn’t engage; he just carries on with his day. He’s also been great with an energetic, loud, and unpredictable 8-year-old and a calmer 10-year-old kid. He loves car rides and hasn’t shown an interest in chasing squirrels.

He’s house-trained and has done well having the run of the house while his foster family is away for up to eight hours. He may howl when his people first leave or when he can see them outside, but once they’re actually gone, he settles down. This has continued to improve since Buddy first arrived (although an apartment or other close-quarters living situation probably isn’t the best fit). He also did fine in a crate at the veterinary clinic.

Now, let’s talk about Buddy’s special talents. He is an expert at getting under the covers. You can barricade the bed and tuck everything in, but somehow he’ll find his way beneath the blankets—and may leave a little drool on your pillow for good measure. Consider it part of the Buddy experience!

Buddy prefers to have a say in how he’s handled and isn’t a fan of being restrained, especially at the vet. He’ll need sedation for nail trims to keep the experience as stress-free as possible. He can also be protective of things in his mouth and isn’t always cooperative about taking medication, so a patient approach and a little creativity may be helpful. Understanding his preferences and giving him space when needed will help him feel comfortable and secure. Buddy has been diagnosed with mitral valve disease/heart murmur (does not need medications) and has some age-related lumps and bumps. He recently had a dental cleaning and is all spruced up for his next home!

Overall, Buddy is a lovely, affectionate, easygoing companion with plenty of personality and a real talent for snuggling. He’s good with dogs, cats, and kids, enjoys his walks and toys, and is happy to share his home with his favorite people. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will keep you company, make you laugh, and probably steal your pillow, Buddy could be just the dog for you. Just remember to leave room under the covers!

8. Alvin

Adult (3 years 11 months) · Male · German Shorthaired Pointer (short coat) · 81 mi from Turlock

At 4 years old and 61 pounds of pure muscle, Alvin is a GSP in his prime: smart, athletic and ready for adventure. He also has an excellent “off switch” and a soft spot for a good snuggle.

Inside the house, Alvin is calm and very affectionate. His foster mom says he “melts in your hands” when you scratch his ears. He loves to cuddle, nap, and be close to his people. Once he’s outside, his (typical GSP) energetic side comes out. He loves long walks and would be a great partner for a runner, hiker, or anyone who wants a four-legged companion on outdoor adventures.

Read more about Alvin

Alvin LOVES people. Kids, teens, grandparents, even a party of 20+: he’s happy to meet everyone. Our trainer has been impressed by his manners: he greeted her politely without jumping, sat when asked, and was curious about her treats without being pushy. She called him “extremely biddable,” so he should be a joy to train with food and affection as rewards.

He also adores his foster family’s Sphynx cat. He’s curious about cats outside and has a strong GSP prey drive for birds and squirrels, so a feline sibling could work depending on the cat.

Alvin’s road to rescue was a hard one. He was found injured on the side of a road, then moved between several short-term foster homes. With all that stress, he had a rough start with other (resident) dogs. Our trainer describes him as “a mature and skilled dog communicator”: he’s clear about when he needs space, and he does best with people who read and respect his signals.

Alvin’s ideal home:

Active people who want an athletic dog for walks, runs, outdoor fun, and are able to keep up with his energy
Adopters who understand dog body language, or want to learn, and will keep up with training (leash skills, recall, impulse control)
Only dog at this time. A second dog in the home may be considered in the future
A tall, secure fence (he has cleared 6′ fences!) or a jump-deterrent like a coyote roller

Alvin has been through a lot. What he needs now is a stable home where he can settle in and be the loving, cuddly companion he already is.

Other notes: Alvin is likely able to live successfully with cats. Dog-savvy kids are preferred. He is able to be around other dogs if supervised but not yet ready to live with another dog.

Adoption fee: $425 (includes a post-adoption training allowance). Training will be required.

Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/

(Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6)

If you'd like to see what Alvin's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs.

9. Big Mack

Senior · Male · Labrador Retriever (short coat) · 79 mi from Turlock

Big Mack – Black English Male, Approx. 10 Years Old, 80 lbs.
Big Mack is the epitome of the English Labrador Retriever, and according to his foster, the epitome of perfection!
This big, lovable boy gets along with everyone and everything. He loves his food, loves to snooze, loves his walkies, and most of all, loves being near his people. Honestly, what more could a Lab ask for?
His foster says she wishes she could have known him in his younger days, which tells you just how special this boy is.
Mack is one of the 11 neglected dogs Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno took in from a hoarding situation involving approximately 50 dogs. The lack of care was immediately evident, but Mack has come a long way since arriving in rescue. Today, he is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, and microchipped. His horribly infected ears have healed. He also had several badly damaged teeth removed, and what a difference that made! Now he can eat and chew like a champ. Did someone say FOOD? Yep, Mack is a Lab through and through!
Mack is house-trained and crate-trained, although a crate isn't necessary. He enjoys the freedom to move about the house, whether it's daytime or bedtime. He does have some arthritis, common in older dogs, and receives pain management to help keep him comfortable.
Those wild puppy days are long behind him, and Mack is perfectly content with the simple pleasures in life. His favorite things, in no particular order, are:

Read more about Big Mack

Eating. (This one is non-negotiable!)
Snoozing.
Rolling around on his bed and making little happy woofs after a meal.
Taking short, leisurely walkies.
Being close to his favorite people.
Getting brushed and enjoying a little extra pampering.

Mack is a gentle, easygoing soul who doesn't ask for much. He isn't looking for adventure, marathons, or a busy household full of commotion. What he wants is a comfortable home, a soft place to snooze, a few strolls, good meals, and someone who will love him just as he is.
After everything this sweet boy has been through, he deserves to spend his golden years knowing what it means to be cherished. He has so much love left to give, and all he needs is someone willing to give him that same unconditional love in return.
Could you be the person who gives Big Mack his happily ever after? A slower-paced home and a loving heart are all this handsome senior is asking for. In exchange, you'll get a loyal companion, a gentle presence by your side, and a whole lot of happy little post-meal woofs.
Big Mack's golden years should be filled with love, comfort, and the security of knowing he is finally home. If you’d like to know more about Big Mack, please fill out an adoption application at www.labrescuefresno.org

10. Peanut

Puppy · Female · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 79 mi from Turlock

Peanut – Black Female Lab Mix, 12 Weeks Old, 20 lbs.
Meet Peanut – A Little Labby Girl with a Whole Lot of Love!
Peanut is a beautiful black Lab mix who is smart, sweet, playful, and full of that classic Lab personality! At 12 weeks old, she is already showing what a wonderful companion she will be.
Peanut loves everyone, young and old, and gets along wonderfully with dogs, cats, and even goats of all sizes. She plays with the cats in her foster home and even snuggles with them. She adores her foster family's dogs and would do well in a home with other friendly pets or an active family with children.
This girl is one smart cookie! She sits for her meals and treats, listens well, and is eager to please. She is very food motivated, which should make training a breeze. Peanut is crate trained, goes into her crate willingly, and sleeps through the night.
She is working on potty training and does very well when taken outside frequently. She is learning to respond to her foster family's “potty, potty, potty” cue and heads right to her potty spot. She is also learning leash skills and doing well on walks. Her recall is impressive for such a young puppy, and she stays close to her foster family on their property.
Fetch, squeaky toys, big stuffed animals, and water are some of Peanut's favorite things. She is an active, curious pup who doesn't want to miss a thing! When playtime is over, though, she loves nothing more than snuggling on the couch with her people for a relaxing movie night.
Peanut is growing into a wonderful young girl with all the makings of a fantastic companion. She will need continued training, socialization, and patience as she grows, but her intelligence and eagerness to please make her a delightful puppy to raise.
Could Peanut be the missing piece of your family? If you are ready for puppy kisses, outdoor adventures, playful antics, and plenty of snuggles, this sweet girl is waiting to meet you! Apply at www.labrescuefresno.org

Senior · Female · Labrador Retriever (short coat) · 79 mi from Turlock

Cameo – Yellow English Female, 10ish years, 62 lbs.
Meet Cameo – A Sweet Senior Lady Looking for Her Forever Home
Cameo is one of the 11 dogs Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno welcomed from a difficult hoarding situation. She has had her veterinary checkup and received care for an ear infection and dry eyes. She is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated, and she’s ready to begin a new chapter surrounded by love and comfort.
Cameo is about as easy going as they come! On a scale of 1 to 10 for craziness, she’s a 2. Her favorite activities include sleeping, enjoying a good back rub in the grass, and soaking up a little attention. She’s potty trained and has settled nicely into her foster home’s routine, especially when it comes to mealtime!
Her foster mom was pleasantly surprised when Cameo figured out how to use the potty bells to let her know she needed to go outside. What a smart girl!
Cameo also enjoys getting attention from people at the Clovis Farmers Market and calmly ignores the other dogs walking by. She’s a laid-back companion who doesn’t ask for much beyond a comfortable place to rest, some gentle affection, and someone to love.
After everything she has been through, Cameo deserves to spend her golden years knowing what it means to be cherished. If you have a soft spot for a sweet senior lady, Cameo might just be your perfect match.

12. Harley

Adult · Male · Labrador Retriever / Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 79 mi from Turlock

Harley – Yellow Male X, 3.5 Years Old, 102 lbs.
HARLEY: 102 POUNDS OF LOVE IN A YELLOW LAB SUIT!
Meet Harley, an approximately 3½-year-old Yellow Lab mix who proves that the biggest packages really can hold the biggest hearts!
At a whopping 102 pounds, Harley is less of a lap dog and more of a lap dog with a weight-limit warning!
Harley came to us from a local animal shelter, so his past is a bit of a mystery. But one thing is becoming crystal clear: this boy is all about LOVE!
His foster family describes him as a big, gentle sweetheart who simply wants to be your best friend. He walks beautifully on a leash, is crate trained, and enjoys people of all ages, including the little ones. He has been around children as young as one year old and takes it all in stride. Wildlife doesn't seem to bother him, and he gets along with other dogs, too. Cats are an unknown.
Here's another little mystery about Harley: so far, we haven't heard him bark! Maybe he's saving his voice for something really important, like announcing that dinner is ready.
Harley is neutered, microchipped, well-mannered, and eager to please. He doesn't need a fancy lifestyle or a calendar full of adventures. He just wants a family to love, a comfy place to relax, and a home where he belongs.
He could be a wonderful companion for an active individual or a family ready to welcome a whole lot of dog into their lives. With a big boy like Harley, you'll need a little extra room to stretch out, some couch space to share, and absolutely no expectation of maintaining a personal bubble!
Could Harley be your missing piece?
This oversized sweetheart has 102 pounds of love to give and is ready to find the people who will cherish him for the wonderful dog he is.
Adopt Harley. Because sometimes the biggest dogs have the gentlest hearts.

14. Missy

Young · Female · Labrador Retriever / Poodle (unknown type) / Mixed (medium coat) · 79 mi from Turlock

Missy – Tan Doodle x, 11 months, 58 lbs.
Looking for a playful, cuddly companion to complete your family? Meet Missy! At just 11 months old and 58 pounds, this girl has plenty of personality and an even bigger heart!
Missy was found as a stray, severely matted and in need of help. Thankfully, she was rescued from the shelter, and now she's ready for her next chapter: finding a family to call her own.
Missy enjoys being close to her people, playing with her toys, and chasing a ball in a good game of fetch. She's still a puppy at heart, with plenty of energy and enthusiasm to share! She's also food-motivated, making continued training a fun and rewarding experience.
Here's what makes Missy a great companion:
Loving and affectionate
Loves toys and playing fetch
Does well with cats
Gets along with both large and small dogs
Very good with children
Crate-trained and house-trained
Knows how to use a doggy door
Food-motivated and eager to learn
At 11 months old, Missy is still learning her manners. She can get excited and jump up to show her enthusiasm, but she's working on keeping all four paws on the floor. She also has a soft mouth. With positive reinforcement, consistency, and continued guidance, she'll keep developing into a wonderful lifelong companion.
What kind of home would make Missy happiest?
Missy would thrive with an active family who includes her in daily adventures, makes time for play, and saves a spot on the couch for snuggles! She would likely enjoy having another friendly dog to keep her company and play with. If she's an only dog, she'd do best with a family who spends plenty of time with her. She wants to be part of family life, not left home alone for long periods.
Missy needs a committed family willing to guide her as she grows, help her learn, and make her a cherished part of the household.
After the rough start she's had, Missy deserves a lifetime of toys to play with, adventures to enjoy, cozy places to nap, and a family she can finally call her own.
Could Missy be the missing piece in your family?
ADOPT MISSY AND LET THE CUDDLES, LAUGHTER, AND UNCONDITIONAL LOVE BEGIN!

15. Jack formerly Gomez

Puppy · Male · German Shepherd Dog · 83 mi from Turlock

Hi, everybody! Guess what?! I've left my shelter name, Gomez, behind and am now going by Jack. I’m just 12 weeks old, and last week I left the shelter with my littermates to start a brand-new adventure with ShepHeroes! I have a lot to learn about this big, exciting world, so I’m going to need a little time to get my paws on the ground before I can tell you all about myself. After leaving the shelter, I spent a night at a foster home in Sacramento with Pumkin and Larry Munster, got a bath and nail trims, and then headed off to my next adventure in San Jose. Then I lived as the solo puppy good life with a whole tribe of friendly German Shepherds who welcomed me in! I even got to go on a pack walk, all safe and cozy in my foster mom's doggie backpack.

Read more about Jack formerly Gomez

My first foster home in SJ was for a few days, while I waited for my intended, and current, foster family to be ready to take me to their house. So I'm now living with a retriever and a ShepHeroes alum and a baby. I absolutely love snuggles and exploring everything around me! My meds helped me recover from kennel cough, which I caught at the shelter. I’ve got lots of growing, playing, and exploring ahead, and I’ll be back soon with more puppy news! Love,Your newest little ShepHeroes recruit

16. Larry Munster

Puppy · Male · German Shepherd Dog · 83 mi from Turlock

Hi, everybody! I’m just 12 weeks old, and I arrived at ShepHeroes with my littermates Pumkin and Jack, aka Gomez! We’re starting a brand-new adventure, and I’m pretty sure lots of exciting things are ahead. My foster family decided to call me Larry Munster, adding Larry to my shelter name. I’ve settled in, and I've even gone to my foster mom's office with her, so I’ll have more to share once I’ve had a chance to explore, play, and show everyone what makes me special. I love cuddles, have the softest coat per my foster, and love to follow her around the house. I'm working on potty training, crate training, and sleeping through the night.

Read more about Larry Munster

We spent our first night out of the shelter with a foster family, getting baths and desperately needed nail trims. After a good night's sleep with lots of playtime with each other and the resident shepherds, plus another foster dog, four-year-old Daisy, who watched over us like all good female shepherds. I adored my bath whereas my littermates weren't so sure it was a good thing. We met Daisy's forever family the morning we were getting back on the road to head to our next foster homes, as she was getting adopted.I'm the only puppy in my current foster home, and I love all the attention and snuggles. To grow, I'm taking lots of naps, as puppies need 16-18 hours of sleep. But I'll be seeing Pumkin et al. frequently for playdates. Stay tuned! My story is just beginning!

17. Pumkin

Puppy · Female · German Shepherd Dog · 83 mi from Turlock

Guess who just arrived at ShepHeroes?! Hi, everyone! I’m a 12-week-old German Shepherd puppy, and I busted out of the shelter with my littermates, Jack (aka Gomez) and Larry Munster, to land in rescue! We’ve spent the last week settling in, so there’s lots more to share about our little puppy adventures. The three of us spent a night in a Sacramento foster home, waiting for our ride to San Jose the next day. Baths, nail trims - snuggles made those weird experiences better. Larry Munster enjoyed his bath, though. Oh, and about those names you might see floating around? Those were shelter-given names, and honestly, we hadn't bothered learning them! We hear one of the perks of landing in a foster home is that our foster families get to pick our rescue names.

Read more about Pumkin

How fun is that?! And in the spirit of Halloween, I kept my name Pumkin because I'm just a sweet little pumkin. I am brave, independent, and a steady explorer. I easily incorporate into new households with their shepherds and other dogs, steady for sure. I love attention and snuggles like all pups, but I will also take my toy and happily hang out in my pen area during the day or in my crate all night. My foster family has two resident shepherds, and extended family has a couple of corgis; we have regular playdates. I also got to take a stroller ride with my own personal driver during the Fall Festival; my driver said I was such a well-behaved pup. I didn't need to jump out or explore because people kept coming to say sweet things to me and pet me throughout our time there. Stay tuned, friends! I'll keep giving you updates as I get to go on more adventures.

Meet Rocket! This charming 12-week-old puppy began his journey with two littermates, Frankie and Coraline, and has already shown remarkable resilience and spirit. While Frankie has since found her furever home, Rocket and Coraline are now ready for their own loving families.Rocket absolutely adores people and has a playful love for toys. He’s learning the ropes from the resident shepherd and one of our beloved alums, who are helping him settle in and become the best companion he can be.

He's learned lots of skills such as sit, out, leave it, pee potty, place, and when tired, he will self-crate for a nap. He puts himself to bed in his crate at 8 pm, has a quick potty break at midnight, and sleeps until 6 am. With his irresistibly handsome looks and floppy ear tips—now perking up more each day—Rocket has truly blossomed. After good nutrition and TLC, he’s gaining weight, and his coat is starting to shine just like his siblings’. Watching him explore his foster home, enjoy the yard, and finally rest easy after his time on the streets and in the shelter has been a joy. He soaks up every bit of love from the resident shepherd, who can’t get enough of this puppy. When he’s not following his best buddy, the resident shepherd, he’s always ready for snuggles and kisses—he truly thrives on attention. He’s had several accident-free days, which have continued with reminders and guidance appropriate for his age, and he has no problem letting you know what’s on his mind, sharing his opinions in classic shepherd style. When Rocket’s foster family left for a preplanned vacation, he traveled to his next foster home in Sacramento, where he now lives with two shepherds and a cat. He’s already mastered the doggy door, respectfully ignores the senior cat, and absolutely loves his crate—especially when it’s filled with his growing pile of favorite toys. Rocket is excellent in the car, traveling for several hours while napping in his travel crate. He's also good on leash, taking short excursions around his neighborhood courtyard. While waiting for his new foster family, Rocket spent a couple of hours with new friends—including our adoptable Joey—and showed how steady and adaptable he is. He fit right in, playing with toys and even enjoying a game of tug with a senior alum.In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Rocket is proudly sporting a pink leash!Interested in learning more? 27. Gabby

Adult · Female · Labrador Retriever (short coat) · 79 mi from Turlock

Gabby – Black Female Purebred Labrador, 6 Years, 67 lbs
Meet Gabby!
If you’re looking for an all-Lab Lab, look no further! Gabby is everything we love about the breed wrapped up in one beautiful, gentle girl. She has the sweetest disposition and simply wants to be with her people.
Gabby is a total foodie and firmly believes that no meal should ever be missed! She loves people of all ages and is wonderfully social with dogs, cats, and even goats. She is gentle, affectionate, and eager to please. Her favorite place is right beside you, soaking up belly rubs, cuddles, and plenty of reassurance that she is, indeed, a very good girl.
And Gabby has some serious Lab fun in her, too! She loves squeaky toys, playtime, fetch, walks, and—oh my goodness—SWIMMING! This girl absolutely loves the water. She has a wonderful recall and is terrific on leash, but she is also a pleasure off leash and will happily walk right alongside you in a natural heel.
Gabby is equally happy enjoying the simple things in life. Most of the time, she is a calm, quiet girl who is perfectly content to relax near her people. But when the other dogs are ready to play, Gabby is more than happy to join in! She also loves going for a stroll or hopping in the car for an adventure. She is excellent in the car and gets in and out like a pro.
Gabby is very much a people dog. She wants to be close to her humans and doesn’t like being separated from them. If you leave her sight, she may bark to let you know that she has noticed your absence and would very much prefer that you come back! ❤️ Because of this, Gabby will need a home where someone is home most of the time. She is looking for people who want a devoted companion who will happily spend her days simply being by their side.
❤️ A note about Gabby's medical care
Gabby has been diagnosed with MG (myasthenia gravis), but we are very happy with how she is doing. She currently presents with no signs of MG and is doing wonderfully on her medication. She receives medication three times a day, and we have begun a carefully monitored diminishing dose. Her most recent bloodwork and titers were all normal.
Her medical needs are something her future family will need to continue managing, but Gabby herself doesn't seem to have gotten the memo that she's supposed to be anything other than a happy, loving Labrador! She is enjoying life, loves her people, loves her dog friends, and is ready for a family who will give her the same devotion she gives them.
Gabby is the kind of Lab who makes you smile just by being in the room. She doesn't need a complicated life—she wants her people, a comfy place to relax, some good food, a belly rub, a walk, a game of fetch, and maybe a swim whenever possible.
If you have room in your heart and home for a sweet, gentle, devoted, fun-loving six-year-old Lab, Gabby would love to meet you. Apply for Gabby at www.labrescuefresno.org

I’m obsessed with… EVERYTHING!
Toys? YES.
Bones? Absolutely.
Fetch? All day long.
Cuddles? You bet!
Water? Yes!
I’m a professional toy collector, a bone-carrying expert, and a full-time cuddle bug.
I was born into rescue after our amazing momma was saved from a local shelter by these incredible folks at Lab Rescue.
What makes me a star:
My Passions: My bone (my precious!), squeaky toys, fetch, happy wiggly dances, and then settling in for some serious snuggles.
House Manners: I’m potty trained, a doggy-door pro, comfortable free-roaming in the house, and crate familiar.
My Vibe: Goofy, sweet, people-loving and just a little bit Velcro. I have that classic Lab happy-go-lucky personality and soulful brown eyes that are pretty hard to resist.
Kids are an unknown but I think they are just smaller versions of my foster mom. Cats: Unknown.

Adopting a dog with children in Turlock

Bring the whole family to meet the dog before you adopt, and ask the rescue how the dog behaves around children your kids' ages.

Teach children to let the dog come to them, to stroke gently, and to leave the dog alone while it's eating or sleeping. Give the dog a bed or crate of their own to retreat to, and always supervise young children with a new dog.

Relaxed adult dogs are often a better match for young children than puppies, which jump up, nip and chew while they learn.
