1. Josie

Puppy · Female · Chihuahua / Pug (short coat) · 7 mi from Hartford

Welcome Josie to CCPAL Rescue. Josie is a Chug (Chihuahua/Pug) puppy. She weighs 4 pounds and is 9 weeks old. She will be a small dog full grown. She should be 12 pounds or less. She is very sweet and has an adorable rounded head. She likes to be held, is good in a crate, goes on a wee pad and loves to play with toys. She was born at the Rescue. They took in a stray female and she was pregnant. This means the puppies get lots of attention and are very used to being in a loud and rowdy environment. Josie would be best in a home that the person doesn’t work all day every day. She needs to finish up her puppy training. Social pups make great adults and now is the time for her to spend time with her family and to go places and let people pet her. She is an AMAZING puppy. She would be fine with children. Due to her small size, we would like children to be 8 or older. She is getting her puppy vaccines and will have 3. She will then be ready for spay and adoption. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

13. Maggie

Puppy · Female · Shepherd / Terrier / Mixed · 13 mi from Hartford

Are you looking for a fulltime supervisor to monitor your every move, double check your floor for dropped snacks, and manage your sleep schedule? Meet Maggie, a 5-month-old tan and black short haired Shepherd mix who is currently taking applications for her forever subordinates also known as family! Maggie is basically 90 percent ears and 10 percent pure potential. Her ears are currently having a fierce internal debate: one minute they are floppy and sweet, and the next, they are sticking high up like satellite dishes trying to pick up alien radio signals or the exact sound of a cheese wrapper opening from three rooms away.

She currently weighs 20 pounds and is expected to be a medium-size dog once fully grown, weighing between 30 and 60 pounds.Maggie is a shy girl with a sweet personality. Maggie is the ultimate team player, getting along with both children and other dogs. Maggie has not been introduced to cats so it is unknown how she will be with them.Maggie is in the peak sponge phase of life, which means her house, leash, and crate training are all actively in progress. Adopting a puppy like Maggie means committing to the rewarding, slightly chaotic responsibility ofteaching her how to be a good canine citizen. It involves early morning potty alarms, consistent positive reinforcement, and accepting that quiet may mean she is remodeling a shoe. But in exchange for your patience, you get a front row seat to watching a beautiful Shepherd mix grow into a loyal best friend, complete with puppy breath, clumsy play bows, and a wagging tail that greets you like you just returned from a five-year voyage at sea.If you are ready to trade unbroken nights of sleep for a lifetime of unconditional love, Maggie is ready to pack her toys! Just be warned: once you look into those expressive eyes and see those shape shifting ears in person, resistance is entirely futile. Apply to adopt her today and prepare to never use the bathroom alone again! * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Maggie is $500. 14. Priscilla Prissy

Puppy · Black Mouth Cur / Labrador Retriever (medium coat) · 7 mi from Hartford

Welcome Priscilla “Prissy” to CCPAL Rescue. Priscilla is a 10-week-old sweetie. Lab/Black Mouth Cur mix is our best guess. She should be a medium sized dog 28 pounds or less. He is sturdy and has longer legs then her stubby legged brother. Her mom is Pickles and she is also medium sized. She is getting lots of attention at the Rescue and she is social, good with other dogs, good in a crate, learning wee pad manners and is over all a very nice puppy. The kennel staff usually bathe and clip toenails on a regular basis as well. She will be fine with grooming. She has a soft fluffy coat and adorable expressions. She was found as a stray with her mom who is Pickles. She is getting all 3 sets of his puppy vaccinations and will be spayed soon. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Prissy would be fine in a family with children. We like them to be 8 or older. A puppy is always best with someone that is not gone all day every day. A puppy needs to bond with his humans and to go places to remain and grow up to be a well-rounded dog. Priscilla will also need to finish her puppy training. She would be great in a doggy daycare as she gets time playing off leash with other puppies her size. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

15. Daisey Mae

Puppy · Female · Chihuahua / Dachshund (short coat) · 7 mi from Hartford

Welcome Daisey Mae to CCPAL Rescue. She came in with her mom Layla. We think her breed is Chiweenie. She is 13-weeks old and she weighs about 5 or 6 pounds. We think full grown would be 25 pounds or less. She is beautiful and looks a lot like her mom. She was fun to take photos of at the photo shoot. She is good in a crate, good with other dogs, playful and sweet. She is smart and trusting of people. She would be great with a family that is moderately active to highly active. She would be best with someone that is not gone all day every day and can spend some time with their puppy to keep her social and to finish up her puppy training.

She would be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older as older children can be taught to respect and be careful with their dog. She is sturdy and would make a great walking companion. She is social and would be fine taking her out places that have lots of people or a doggy daycare. She is up on her vaccinations and will be spayed soon and ready for her forever home. She is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. 16. Bitsy

Puppy · Cairn Terrier / Chihuahua · 7 mi from Hartford

Welcome Bitsy to CCPAL Rescue. She is a 5-pound small Terrier/Cairn mixed pup. Her mom is Monica. She was on the street as a stray. We took her in to find out she was pregnant. The puppies were born in our Rescue. They have gotten lots of interaction. They are very social and friendly. Bitsy is one of the smaller pups in the litter. She is full of personality and very good with her litter group. She goes on a wee pad and is good in a crate. She likes all people and is not shy around strangers. Her mom is 15 pounds. We do think Bitsy will be 15 pounds or less full grown. She is not a big shedder.

Read more about Bitsy

She will make some lucky family a good pet. Anyone who adopts a puppy should not work all day everyday because a puppy needs to be with their family and not home alone all day. She needs to finish up her puppy training. She will be a great dog for a social person wanting a matching puppy personality. She would be fine in a smaller condo size yard. She would be fine with other dogs. She can go with children. We like them to be 8 or older. She is getting spayed, vaccinated and she will be ready for her forever home. She is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally. We can also use one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Adopting a puppy in Hartford

Puppies usually go to their new homes from about eight weeks old, once they're weaned and have had their first vaccinations. Most rescues spay or neuter them before adoption, or include it in the fee.

Ask the rescue how big the puppy is expected to grow and which breeds they think are in the mix, so you can plan for the dog they'll become.

Puppies need a lot of your time: house-training, a few minutes of training every day, several small meals, and someone home often enough to let them out. A puppy class is a good way to start.
