1. Boulware
Puppy (4 months 9 days) · Male · Unknown breed (short coat) · 24 mi from Bronson

Say bonjour to Boulware, a 4-month-old pup who was found near Boulware Springs along with his brother. He's great on and off leash and loves to explore, so Boulware would make a great walking buddy! While he may be a slow learner, once he gets it, he's GOT it. In the meantime, he sits
really
well and will hop right in his crate as soon as you say "place!" Do you like to play tug of war? He'll probably win!

2. Hawthorne
Puppy (4 months 9 days) · Male · Unknown breed (short coat) · 24 mi from Bronson

Say hello to Hawthorne, a 4-month old lab-mix! He and his brother were found at the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trailhead. Hawthorne is a very smart, crate trained lover boy who already knows how to sit and lie down! He loves to run laps and play fetch (even though his brother would rather play tug of war). While he's a bit of a homebody, you know Hawthorne always be there when you return with the biggest puppy dog eyes known to humankind!

3. Sweet Pea
Young (1 year 1 month) · Female · Unknown breed (short coat) · 24 mi from Bronson

Sweet Pea is a SWEET pup; her name fits her perfectly. She is eager to please treat motivated, knows basic commands like sit, lay down and spin! Also, foster mom reports that potty training is progressing and so far, very minimal accidents and she is catching on quick! Sweet Pea is super smart! She is great on a leash... unless she sees a lizard, she might try to run after it, otherwise she does not pull! She is great with other dogs! She loves to sunbathe and roll over on her back for some belly rubs. She is a good mix of energy and chill. She will have little spurts of energy will play and run, but shortly after she will be ready for a nap and some cuddles. She is a really great dog and will make a great addition to any family.

6. Faith V
Puppy (3 months 12 days) · Female · Beagle / Mixed (medium coat) · 31 mi from Bronson

Faith was found abandoned (probably dumped) at the end of a dirt road by a mechanics shop. That is where this sweet baby's story, as we know it, begins. It is beyond wonderful that we can now make that story so much better! Faith is currently being fostered in Georgia and is a happy little puppy who is delighted to have soft, clean bedding, nutritious puppy food and lots of love! She may not be quite as delighted with the deworming and vaccinations however. We do not know who her mother or father were but we estimate her to be somewhere between 12 and 14 weeks at this writing, so possibly a birth date of around 7/23.
Read more about Faith V
Currently she weighs 10.4 lb. When Faith has had a few more vaccinations and is ready for transport, we will bring her to Florida where we have an excited foster home waiting for her. She will be spayed, microchipped and ready for adoption the weekend after Thanksgiving. If you are interested in possibly adopting Faith, please submit an adoption survey right away and our Adoption Team will contact you promptly to discuss our adoption policies for puppies. Please note that once approved you will be required to make a $100.00 deposit towards her adoption fee in order for us to hold her for you. Thank you for seeking to adopt from a rescue!

7. Lex
Senior (8 years 9 months) · Male · Beagle · 31 mi from Bronson

Lex is good with dogs, cats, and even chickens, but not a fan of the new crawling baby. Lex's family had loved him since he was a puppy but made the difficult decision to reach out to Southeast Beagle Rescue to find him a loving home. He has pleasantly suprised us with his vitality as he's still active enough to give squirrels a good chase and jumps for joy when he sees a leash... and he is pretty good on leash! He has enough energy to be fun but not so much that it's overwhelming. He's also shown us that he is able to handle new situations well. He was used to home-cooked meals (loves broccoli and oranges and of course chicken).
Read more about Lex
He was also used to having a dog door where he could go in and out as he pleased. But he's learning to gradually enjoy a bit of kibble now and then and also to ask to go out and come back in. We would really like to see him in a home with a fenced yard and a dog door again though. Lex wants to be around his people and is often curious to see what they are doing, but he is not a velcro dog and doesn't get stressed when foster mom is out of his sight. He is however very vocal and will let you know quickly if someone is walking down street. Lex's que to crate up is "Go home, Lex," and he is comfortable sleeping in his crate at night. But one thing that's especially important to him is having his blanket. He loves putting his nose underneath it and sometimes covers himself almost completely. Lex is usually a confident dog and isn't bothered by thunderstorms, fireworks, or loud noises. He's a smart boy and knows quite a few commands and tricks! He understands "Sit," "Lay down," "Come here," and "Leave it." He also knows "High five" and "Roll over." One of his fun tricks is "1, 2, 3, catch!" He knows to get ready to catch something when he hears the countdown. Lex can have that beagle stubborn streak and does not like being pushed off of furniture. Instead when he needs to follow directions, he responds to a countdown of "5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and of course chicken. This gorgeous guy is fully vetted and ready to go on sleepover.

8. Sketch
Young (2 years) · Male · Beagle · 31 mi from Bronson

Sketch is really a happy-go-lucky little guy who seems to have a permanent wag in his tail! He loves getting affection from people, enjoys going for walks, and has a lot of fun with toys-- especially the ones with squeakers which he renders squeakerless! Sketch likes other dogs and is playful without being overpowering, and he has done well in a home with cats. House training is coming along great and he learned to use the doggie door very quickly. Things Sketch is still working on are to keep all four paws on the floor when greeting people and he is also still figuring out some household boundaries.
Read more about Sketch
Although he accepts verbal corrections well, his curiosity sometimes just gets the best of him. He’s been known to climb on top of his crate in pursuit of cat food, hop onto the metal storage can on the patio to peek through the kitchen window, and use a side table to keep an eye on the yard guy at work. Clearly, he doesn’t want to miss a thing. He is not frequently vocal, but the few times Sketch has been heard to sing out the famous beagle arroo it is definitely rousing! At night, he’s fantastic in his crate. He may whine a little when the sun starts coming up, but he doesn’t make a big fuss. Sketch is easygoing about handling. He let his foster mom clean his ears and handle his feet without complaint. All in all, he’s a loving, cheerful guy with a curious mind, a playful spirit, and plenty of personality. Sketch is also heartworm negative and ready to go on sleepover.

9. Scribble
Young (2 years) · Male · Beagle · 31 mi from Bronson

Scribble was a little timid when he first arrived but the other dogs in his foster home are really helping him to gain confidence. He follows them in and out of the house and they all enjoy hunting for lizards. He is usually pretty quiet but when he gets on a scent he lets out that delightful and musical beagle ARROO! Scribble is doing really well with house training but is still a youngster and with his chewing urge seems to have a liking for flip flops. Foster mom redirects him to appropriate chew toys which he also likes - and plush toys. He is most definitely a happy boy with a wagging tail and although he requests back scratches and petting, Scribble is still a little uncertain with people and will sometimes cower down.
Read more about Scribble
He does not seem to be familiar with dog beds and chooses instead to curl up on a throw rug. The other dogs in the house often inhabit the couch, but he only jumps up when they are announcing something worth watching for out the nearby window. There are several cats in his foster home which he completely ignores. He does not ignore food though - oh no, he is typical beagle there and good thing foster mom is experienced as he has found the kitchen counters and garbage can to be a temptation. We would prefer for Scribble to have a fenced yard and he would do best with another dog. This little 2 year old is learning well and will grow up loved. Scribble is neutered, vaccinated and tested heartworm negative so he is ready to go on a sleepover!

10. Theresa
Senior (10 years 1 month) · Female · Beagle · 31 mi from Bronson

Theresa LOVES to cuddle and she seems to be especially fond of her foster dad! Being near her people is definitely one of her favorite places to be. She fit right in upon arriving at her foster home, learned the doggie door quickly, and appears to be fully housebroken. She is fine being crated when the family is gone and also at night she sleeps in her crate in the bedroom. Of course… if she had it her way, she’d be snuggled up on the bed with you! She settles down easily and is just happy to be with you. She gets along great with the other dogs in her foster home and we think she would enjoy having a canine friend.
Read more about Theresa
She has a healthy respect for cats, she finds them fascinating but stays away from them. Theresa loves toys and is always ready for some fun. She’s respectful of the house — she’s only been caught chewing on something that wasn’t hers once. She enjoys exploring the backyard and taking in all the interesting smells and sounds around her. She’s sweet, affectionate, easy to live with, and has so much love to give. She doesn’t need a perfect home — she just needs a forever home where she can be loved, included, and allowed to be the cuddly, happy girl she is. Don’t let this beautiful girl get overlooked. She is ready to be someone’s very special dog — and someone is going to be incredibly lucky to call her theirs. She is heartworm negative and ready for a sleepover!

11. Cardi
Adult (6 years 3 months) · Female · Beagle · 31 mi from Bronson

Cardi's purpose in life seems to be loving and being loved by her people. She enjoys meeting new people and is thrilled at the slightest attention shown to her. Being next to you getting pets and scritches is her absolute delight. Cardi plays with the other dogs in her foster home, but she has her limits with them and would also do just fine as an only dog. She does not like to be messed with when she is lying down and she will definitely tell them to go away if they get in her face while she is relaxing. We do not know about Cardi with cats but she does not seem interested in any prey. Her house training has improved immensely in the few weeks she has been in her foster home (arrived 8/21), and she has been crated for up to 6 hours with no accidents.
Read more about Cardi
Unsurprisingly, Cardi is very food motivated and will try to steal others food. She loves her treats, especially the soft little meaty ones. Currently Cardi is not leash walked and she loves to run in her fenced yard. Her energy level is perhaps slightly above moderate. She is heartworm positive but we expect her treatment, which is scheduled for October 1st, to go well and she should be ready for sleepover around October 5th.

12. Finn IV
Young (1 year 8 months) · Male · Beagle / Hound / Mixed · 31 mi from Bronson

Finn is a really happy, playful guy! He definitely needs another playful dog and he's having a blast with the other young boy in his foster home. They have a great time sharing toys and romping about. Please see videos below. Finn loves going to the dog park and showing off his running speed, and h⁰e also loves the water. One day the pool was not available so our silly boy climbed into a water bucket. Finn does still have a few puppy traits. He will go after shoes... even when you are wearing them... he puts his feet on the counter to investigate... and he likes rugs and blankets. But foster mom is a good trainer and Finn is starting to understand "no" when he gets into those things.
Read more about Finn IV
When Finn is left at home alone he is in his crate. He does cry for a bit but settles down pretty quick and he doesn't destroy anything in the crate. He sleeps quietly in his crate at bedtime. Finn definitely has a high prey drive and will chase squirrels and is definitely not good with cats. His foster mom is teaching him he can't chase squirrels on the leash, but it's a work in progress. He's not a big eater and not very food motivated (toys work better). At this point in his very young life he seems to relate more with other dogs than with people, but that could change over time. He mostly asks for affection when he sees his foster brother, Jasper is getting lots of attention. We think Finn may possibly be really good at agility. His prey drive might transfer well to stuffed toys but currently he is deprived of those as they are just not allowed in the home because of the other dog absolutely destroying them. Finn is heartworm positive but will be treated at the end of August and he will be ready for sleep over the first week of September.

13. Patience
Senior (8 years 2 months) · Female · Beagle · 31 mi from Bronson

*ADOPTION FEE SPONSORED BY: ACCORDING TO ELLIE *Patience is kind of the Betty White of Dogdom. She is sweetly innocent, always cheerful with a wagging tail, but there's a mischievous glint in her eye that says she's ready to play the clown and get goofy. She definitely has a joie de vivre. Her name is really appropriate for a couple of reasons. She most likely had a past that required forbearance and long-suffering. Probably had a lot of babies. It also takes patience to walk her as this girl is not going anywhere fast AND wants to smell everything along the way. She is great at going potty outside but you do have to make sure she goes outside regularly.
Read more about Patience
She is extremely food motivated so the tiniest little treat will get her on her way out the door. She is friendly to other dogs but doesn't really need them around. She appreciates so much the kindness shown to her and petting and belly rubs of course are very obviously enjoyed. She is fine being crated and will not eliminate in the crate. She occasionally gives a funny little bark but she's mostly very quiet. She has had a good dental cleaning with only 4 extractions along with a few growths removed - two around her eye which concerned us just because of their location. This lovely senior girl is negative for heartworms but does have a little arthritis and a heart murmur. She is currently taking Dasaquin and she recently had an echocardiogram for her heart murmur and she is maintaining heart function well on Vetmedin and Benazepril. Patience is a calm and quiet companion to share life with and providing for her in her later years would be a gift.

14. Barnett
Senior (12 years 3 months) · Male · Beagle · 31 mi from Bronson

*ADOPTION FEE SPONSORED BY: ACCORDING TO ELLIE *Barnett may be an older gentleman but he has such a young spirit! He is active, seeks out and engages with his humans and loves to explore the backyard in his foster home. He's such a happy boy and his tail is always wagging! Barnett has mastered the doggie door and his house training is going well, although not perfect yet. Foster mom is taking him to weekly obedience classes to socialize and he's quickly learning come and sit. He is doing well walking on a leash too. We are hoping he will also learn stay, wait, and leave it ...we will see! When Barnett meets new people he gets excited but calms quickly, and on walks he has been friendly with all the dogs we've introduced him to, even if they were not as friendly or welcoming to him.
Read more about Barnett
However, we do believe that Barnett will do best as an only dog. He shows occasional curiosity towards the cat, but redirects easily. He has also done well interacting with children. He has spotted squirrels, frogs and lizards in the yard and loves chasing them yet has never gotten close to catching them. He likes bones or bully sticks and will carry them around with him, and he occasionally plays with stuffed toys. He is VERY food motivated!! At night Barnett sleeps in his doggie bed or crate in his foster mom's bedroom or on her bed. When foster mom leaves for work, Barnett does bark and has some anxiety if he sees her leave, so she gives him a frozen dog treat or toy to distract him for a while. If he doesn’t see her leave, he transitions well to being alone. In the beginning, Barnett was not really a lap dog, but the longer he is in his foster home, the more affectionate he is becoming! He loves head scratches and praise and is starting to want snuggle and curl up with foster mom to nap. We would really like to see Barnett in a home that can show patience and kindness and also maybe provide him a fenced yard where he can explore. SPECIAL NOTE: Barnett is heartworm positive and, after doing x-rays, we were advised to do Doxycycline and Proheart and retest him in 9 months, and not to do the injections at this time. We would still love to see him get adopted and would certainly be willing to discuss his treatment plan and possibly making our future financial support for that a provision of the Adoption Agreement.

15. Colleen
Adult (4 years 6 months) · Female · Beagle · 31 mi from Bronson

Colleen is a tender soul and a real people lover. She is also very good with other dogs, both male and female, and gentle with cats. One cat she met bopped her on the nose and Colleen just rolled over on her back. :) She was seen being dumped from a car, but fortunately she was rescued and taken to a very good shelter. She has now settled in well in her Florida foster home. She has a moderate to low energy level, will occasionally play with toys and sometimes with other dogs. Although she likes her food, she is not super food motivated and a little crazy like some beagles can be. She also walks well on leash.

Colleen will make someone the most calm, serene and loving companion. She tested positive for heartworms but has completed her treatment and ready for a sleepover. She does need a home where people will not have to leave her alone very much because she has exhibited some separation anxiety.

Adopting a dog in Bronson
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
