She does great sharing toys and treats with both humans and other dog friends.

Meet Waylon!
At 4 years old and just 11 pounds, Waylon is a little guy with a BIG love for his people! This sweet boy is a certified cuddle bug who would happily spend his days snuggled up next to his favorite humans. Personal space? He's not really familiar with that concept!
Waylon can be a bit anxious and the big outside world can feel pretty scary to him. He's much more comfortable when he's close to his people, where he feels safe and secure. He'll need a patient, understanding family who can help him build confidence at his own pace and show him that the world isn't such a scary place after all.

At 5 years old and just 11 pounds, Rhett is proof that the best things really do come in small packages! This little guy has a playful personality and is ready to bring fun, laughter, and lots of love into his forever home.
Don't let his tiny size fool you—Rhett has plenty of personality packed into those 11 pounds! He loves treats, enjoys running and playing, and is always up for a little adventure. But when playtime is over, his favorite place might just be your lap! He's a little guy who loves to cuddle just as much as he loves to wrestle and have fun.
Read more about Rhett
Rhett is also super dog-friendly! He may need a little time to warm up to larger dogs and can be a bit more dominant with other males, so he may do best in a home with a female canine companion. He's friendly with cats, although they make him a little nervous (he's more terrified of them than anything!).
Some other great things about Rhett: Crate trained
Mostly potty trained
Loves treats!
Enjoys running, playing, and wrestling
Loves cuddling in a lap
Super dog-friendly, with a little patience needed when meeting big dogs

4. Jack
5 Years 2 Months · Male · Rat Terrier · 7 mi from Edgewood

Meet
Jack
!
If you're looking for a loyal little shadow who will shower you with affection, entertain you with his antics, and happily accept belly rubs as a full-time job, Jack might just be your perfect match!
Jack is an approximately 5-year-old, 10-pound Rat Terrier with a BIG personality and an even BIGGER heart! This handsome little guy has perfected the art of being absolutely adorable, and he knows exactly how to use it to his advantage.
❤️ Professional Snuggler, Reporting for Duty!
Read more about Jack
Jack is a lover through and through! Personal space? Never heard of it. Jack believes that if you have two hands, at least one should be petting him at all times. He absolutely adores affection, kisses, and cuddles, and his favorite position is flat on his back, belly exposed, patiently waiting for you to get to work!
Because Jack loves his humans so much, his dream home would be with someone who works from home, is retired, or simply spends plenty of time at home. He's not looking for a roommate. He's looking for a best friend!
Toys, Toys & MORE Toys!
Jack takes his toys VERY seriously! He's a fetch enthusiast and a self-appointed squeaker removal specialist. Give him a stuffed toy, and he'll happily demonstrate his impressive ability to locate the squeaker and remove every last bit of fluff. The good news? Jack knows the difference between his toys and your belongings. He's not interested in chewing your shoes or furniture. He's got much more important work to do!
A Smart Little Guy with a Few Opinions!
Jack is crate trained, walks nicely on a leash, and knows how to sit and stay. Although, if we're being fair, he thinks standing on his hind legs is a much more impressive trick than sitting!
He's also a pretty good communicator. Jack will let you know when he'd like to go outside, when he thinks a treat is overdue, or when someone unfamiliar might be approaching. He's got a little watchdog in him, and he's not afraid to use his voice!
And speaking of treats, CHEESE IS LIFE! If you want the key to Jack's heart, you might want to stock up!
Jack's Perfect Forever Home
Jack is doing well with his potty training when kept on a consistent routine, especially being taken outside immediately after meals. He also prefers having his human accompany him outside. After all, why should he go on an adventure alone when you could come along?
Jack gets along with other dog, however, he does believe that all food should rightfully belong to him! He should be fed separate from other pets and may give a quiet warning growl if another dog approaches while he's eating. Giving him his own dining space keeps everyone happy.
While Jack can live with another dog, he would be equally thrilled to be your one and only! In fact, having all the toys, belly rubs, and affection to himself sounds like a pretty fabulous arrangement to him.
The Bottom Line?
Jack is a sweet, affectionate, playful little character who wants nothing more than to be someone's constant companion. He'll make you laugh with his toy-destroying talents, charm you with his hind-leg performances, and melt your heart with his endless requests for love.
He's not asking for much. Just a cozy home, a steady supply of toys, a little cheese, and someone who doesn't mind having a 10-pound shadow following them everywhere.
His adoption donation is $250 & will include age-appropriate vaccines, microchip, and neuter. Please follow the link to submit an application:

5. Clementine
2 Years 2 Months · Female · Rat Terrier · 7 mi from Edgewood

Meet Clementine 10 Pounds of Sweetness Looking for Her Safe Place!
At just 2 years old and a whopping 10 pounds, Clementine may be tiny, but she has a BIG story to tell. Clementine is one of 14 terrier mixes Hunter's Village Rescue welcomed from a heartbreaking hoarding case involving 85 dogs in Lake County. While we don't know everything about her past, we do know that this sweet little Rat Terrier is learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and cherished.
And if there's one thing Clementine has figured out already, it's that a warm lap is pretty much the greatest place on Earth!
Here's what we're learning about our little Cutie Clementine:
Read more about Clementine
Professional Lap Warmer: Clementine absolutely LOVES snuggling with her humans. Give her a cozy lap and some love, and she's one happy little girl!
House Manners Superstar: In her first five days in foster care, she's only had TWO accidents! Pretty impressive for a little girl adjusting to an entirely new world!
Doggy Relationships: Clementine is still figuring out life with other dogs. She's making progress with her foster sister, but she can be protective of her crate, especially when food is involved. Interestingly, she's perfectly happy enjoying treats alongside her foster sister outside of her crate! She may do best with a patient, respectful canine companion or as someone's one-and-only princess.
Walks? Hard Pass! Clementine hasn't quite embraced the whole leash-and-harness concept. In fact, she's absolutely terrified of it! Her current walking strategy involves planting all four paws firmly on the ground and refusing to budge. Her foster family has resorted to carrying her along on walks. Fortunately, at 8 pounds, she's pretty portable!
❤️ A Tender Little Heart: Clementine is still skittish and easily frightened by unfamiliar experiences. She's going to need a patient family who understands that trust takes time and who will celebrate all those little victories along the way. Her foster family says she’s becoming more and more silly as the days go on and it seems she’s got a fun and energetic side of her that she’s just now feeling safe enough to show.
✨ Clementine's Dream Home ✨
We're looking for someone who doesn't need a dog that's ready to conquer the world on day one. Someone who understands that sometimes the biggest accomplishments come in the tiniest packages.
A family willing to give her time, patience, a predictable routine, and plenty of reassurance as she learns that life can be wonderful.
And, of course, a warm lap is absolutely nonnegotiable! ❤️
Clementine has already been through more than any little dog should have to experience. Now it's her turn to discover the good stuff: soft beds, gentle hands, unconditional love, and a family to call her very own. Her adoption donation is $250 and will include vaccines, microchip and spay Please follow this link to submit an application: https://bit.ly/3GDeyyo

She's got a natural nurturing side and seems to enjoy being the honorary grandma of the bunch. ❤️
Read more about Ellie Mae
When she's not busy keeping the puppies company, Ellie May is perfectly content to kick back and enjoy the good life. She's a true lazy old lady who appreciates the finer things, especially cozy naps, cuddles, and FOOD! She's definitely food motivated, so treats are a great way to win her heart.
Ellie May can be a little particular about the men in her life, so she'd do best with someone who understands her boundaries and gives her time to warm up.
Ellie Mae is one of 14 terrier mixes Hunter's Village Rescue welcomed from a heartbreaking hoarding case involving 85 dogs in Lake County. While we don't know everything about her past, we do know that this sweet little Rat Terrier is learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and cherished.

9. Mara & Emily
Senior · Female · Dachshund (short coat) · 13 mi from Edgewood

Meet Mara (red) & Emily (black & tan); aka Ginger & MaryAnn, lol. These bonded sisters are 12 years old & the sweetest pair ever! They are on the smaller size, weighing in at about 11 pounds each, are up-to-date on their shots & are spayed.
Both are potty trained as long as taken out regularly. They are crate trained & sleep the night thru together. They get along with other small dogs, not sure about cats or large dogs. Both are a little shy at first, but warm up to new people very quickly. Mara & Emily do well on a leash and enjoy lizard hunting in the backyard or sitting in the sun like most doxies.
Mara is a bit more special needs and has IVDD, so she gets a monthly Librella injection at the vet which keeps her mobile.
Read more about Mara & Emily
She gets around on her own & does not need any help pottying. Mara doesn’t do stairs but has learned to use a dog ramp to get to her favorite spot on the couch.
They both had horrible dental disease, so DARE recently had dentals done; Emily lost all her teeth & Mara still has about 4 remaining. Therefore, they are on soft foods.
They love snuggling together when they are not snuggling on the coach with their person. These two gals are very low key & easy going girls who would do best in a quiet home.
Mara & Emily MUST stay together & are being fostered in Orlando but travel very well in a car. If you think these two would make a good addition to your family, please fill out an adoption application & put their names on it. ♥

16. Kennedy
Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed · 17 mi from Edgewood

Kennedy is a unique and resilient pup who’s still figuring out how to trust. He’s had a rough start, but underneath his uncertainty is a dog who truly wants love—he just needs patience and the right approach. This guy is house-trained (no accidents here!) and crate-trained, settling in without complaint at night. He also does well in a playpen when left alone for short periods. He loves his toys, especially Nylabones and balls, but can be a little possessive with them. Kennedy enjoys being near his people - he follows them from room to room, wags his tail to show his feelings, and even gives kisses.
Read more about Kennedy
He may ask for affection by bumping against you or jumping in your lap but then growl or nip when actually petted. Kennedy knows "come" and "sit", but treats (especially chicken!) help him stay engaged. He’s leash-reactive when it comes to putting it on or taking it off, especially around his neck, but once he’s walking, he does well - though 15 minutes is his max before he’s exhausted. He clearly has a history of being fed from the table and will wait at mealtime for a better offer- but don’t fall for it! Kennedy needs an experienced, patient adopter who understands that trust takes time. His ideal home is one where: He can continue learning boundaries in a structured environment, touch and handling are approached with patience and care, he has a predictable routine and a safe space to retreat when needed, and he’s allowed to bond at his own pace - on his termsPLEASE NOTE: All your current pets must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention to adopt from Polka Dogz. Adopting a dog in Edgewood
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
