5. Emmett
Adult (1 year 6 months) · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 66 mi from Palm Bay

Meet Emmett — A Little Love Bug with Soulful Eyes! 17.5 pounds | Approximately 1.5 years old | Chihuahua mix
Don’t let Emmett’s serious little face fool you — underneath those soulful caramel eyes is the sweetest, most affectionate love bug you could ever hope to meet! This adorable 17½-pound Chihuahua mix is happiest when he’s curled up in a lap, snuggled in someone’s arms, or peacefully snoozing nearby. He has a mellow, easygoing personality and low-to-moderate energy, making him a wonderful companion for someone who appreciates a dog who is just as content relaxing at home as he is exploring the world at his own pace.
Read more about Emmett
Emmett has a gentle, sweet disposition that makes him a joy to have around. He gets along well with other dogs, including his slightly larger foster sibling, although he isn't particularly interested in roughhousing or playing. He has also done well around cats so far. He mostly ignores them and has shown no aggression, making him a promising candidate for a home with feline friends. He's a quiet little gentleman, too! Emmett isn't much of a barker, even when someone knocks at the door, and he rides beautifully in the car. He's so mellow and tolerant that he doesn't even mind having his nails trimmed.
At night, he sleeps comfortably in his own bed, and when left alone, he settles down quietly and behaves himself. He's also discovering the fun of toys and seems especially fond of soft, squeaky ones. Emmett is still learning a few things and will need a patient adopter willing to help him continue building good habits. He is doing great with his house training since he was neutered. He's also learning to walk on a leash, although his walks currently involve a fair amount of stopping and starting as he figures things out.
The good news? Emmett is a sweet, easygoing little guy who seems eager to enjoy the comforts of home. He has no known medical issues, and his loving nature makes him incredibly easy to adore. And when he's not snuggling in your lap, you might find him fast asleep on his back with all four legs sticking straight up in the air — an absolutely irresistible sight!
Emmett is looking for a loving home where he can be cherished for the affectionate, gentle little soul he is. If you're hoping for a loyal companion who will happily keep your lap warm, offer endless sweetness, and bring a little extra love into your everyday life, Emmett may be your perfect match. Those caramel eyes and that beautiful heart just might steal yours!

6. Milo
Adult (3 years) · Male · Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 66 mi from Palm Bay

NOTE: Milo and Miss Mitt are bonded and must be adopted together
Milo is an approx. 3-year-old, 7 1/2lb. terrier mix with the sweetest soul and the most adorable puppy-dog eyes. This mellow little sweetheart has perfected the art of melting hearts just by looking at you. His favorite place to be is curled up on your lap, snuggled beside his human, or joining you for a nice, cozy nap. If your idea of a perfect day involves cuddles, affection, and a little furry shadow following you around, Milo may be your dream companion.
Read more about Milo
While Milo is a pretty laid-back guy, he also enjoys getting out and about with his people. He loves car rides, trips to the pet store, visits to the park, and, of course, a special pup cup along the way. He’s a smart little guy who learns quickly and is very receptive to training. He also walks beautifully on a leash, making him a wonderful little walking companion. Milo is mostly happy to take life at a relaxed pace, but he has a playful side, too.
One of the most special things about Milo is his bond with his best girl, Miss Mitt. These two absolutely adore each other. They love chasing each other around the house and outside, and Miss Mitt has a magical way of bringing out Milo’s playful side and getting those zoomies going. When they aren’t busy playing, you can usually find them cuddled up together. At night, they love snuggling in bed with their humans. Their bond is truly something special, and they must be adopted together.
Milo is incredibly sweet and gentle with children and doesn’t pay much attention to cats. He is also friendly with other dogs and has a very easygoing nature. He really is just a little lover who wants to make friends and soak up affection. Milo is crate trained and can stay in his crate when his humans leave the house. He will use pee pads during the night if he needs to go, and will go potty outside as long as he is taken out often.
Milo’s dream family is one that LOVES affection as much as he does. We’re talking lots of pets, cuddles, hugs, cozy naps, and plenty of quality time with his favorite people. He would thrive with a family who wants a loving little companion by their side and understands that the best part of having a dog is all the love you get to share. And, of course, his family must be ready to welcome his beloved Miss Mitt, too. Milo and Miss Mitt have so much love to give and are hoping to find a forever family who will cherish them both. They do have a little separation anxiety, so we want someone who is home more often than not, and apartment living would not be suitable for them because they can be a little barky for a short while when their people leave. They are not destructive though. We are not requiring a fenced yard, but they would love to have a secure area to run around and play in. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and think these two sweethearts might be the perfect fit for your family, complete an adoption application and tell us more about you. Milo promises to bring the puppy eyes, the cuddles, and a whole lot of love into your life!

7. Miss Mitt
Adult (3 years) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (long coat) · 66 mi from Palm Bay

NOTE: Miss Mitt and Milo are bonded and must be adopted together
Miss Mitt is an approx. 3-year-old, 7 1/2lb. terrier mix with a BIG personality packed into her little body! This spunky, happy-go-lucky girl has a way of making everyone smile. Whether she’s racing around the house with the cutest zoomies or showering her favorite people with kisses, Miss Mitt brings so much joy wherever she goes. If you’re looking for a little companion who will keep you laughing and fill your days with love, this girl might just be your perfect match.
Read more about Miss Mitt
Miss Mitt is full of energy and loves to play, especially with children! She is incredibly affectionate with kids, loves running around and playing catch with them, and is even happy to be held and give out plenty of kisses. When playtime is over, she’s just as happy to cuddle up with her human for some quality snuggle time. She truly has the best of both worlds: a playful little firecracker who also loves to be loved on.
Miss Mitt has a very special bond with her best friend, Milo, and these two are a package deal. She absolutely adores him and loves cuddling up to him, giving him kisses, and chasing him around the house and yard. She even has a way of bringing out Milo’s playful side and getting his zoomies going, which is just the cutest thing to watch. At the end of the day, they love snuggling up together with their humans. Their bond is incredibly sweet, and they must be adopted together.
Miss Mitt doesn’t pay much attention to cats, so feline friends are generally no big deal to her. She can be a little cautious and occasionally feisty around other dogs, though, so slow introductions and thoughtful management will be important.
She is currently working on her leash manners, as she gets so excited about her walks that she sometimes wants to pull ahead and pick up the pace. With a little guidance, she can be redirected, and she does well walking alongside Milo. Miss Mitt is crate trained and does well staying in her crate when her humans leave the house. She may be a little vocal at first, but she settles down. At night, she and Milo love to snuggle up and sleep in bed with their humans. She will use pee pads during the night if she needs to go, and will go potty outside as long as she is taken out often. She does great riding in a car.
Miss Mitt is looking for a loving family who will embrace her fun-loving personality, give her plenty of opportunities to play, and make room for lots of cuddles and kisses. Most importantly, she needs a family with room in their hearts for both her and Milo. These two have so much love to give and are ready to find a forever home where they can continue being best friends for life. They do have a little separation anxiety, so we want someone who is home more often than not, and apartment living would not be suitable for them because they can be a little barky for a short while when their people leave. They are not destructive though. We are not requiring a fenced yard, but they would love to have a secure area to run around and play in. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe Miss Mitt and Milo might be the perfect additions to your family, complete an adoption application and tell us more about you. Miss Mitt promises to bring the sunshine, the silliness, and plenty of kisses!

14. Kennedy
Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed · 72 mi from Palm Bay

Kennedy is a unique and resilient pup who’s still figuring out how to trust. He’s had a rough start, but underneath his uncertainty is a dog who truly wants love—he just needs patience and the right approach. This guy is house-trained (no accidents here!) and crate-trained, settling in without complaint at night. He also does well in a playpen when left alone for short periods. He loves his toys, especially Nylabones and balls, but can be a little possessive with them. Kennedy enjoys being near his people - he follows them from room to room, wags his tail to show his feelings, and even gives kisses.
Read more about Kennedy
He may ask for affection by bumping against you or jumping in your lap but then growl or nip when actually petted. Kennedy knows "come" and "sit", but treats (especially chicken!) help him stay engaged. He’s leash-reactive when it comes to putting it on or taking it off, especially around his neck, but once he’s walking, he does well - though 15 minutes is his max before he’s exhausted. He clearly has a history of being fed from the table and will wait at mealtime for a better offer- but don’t fall for it! Kennedy needs an experienced, patient adopter who understands that trust takes time. His ideal home is one where: He can continue learning boundaries in a structured environment, touch and handling are approached with patience and care, he has a predictable routine and a safe space to retreat when needed, and he’s allowed to bond at his own pace - on his termsPLEASE NOTE: All your current pets must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention to adopt from Polka Dogz. We only adopt in Florida. All adoption fees go to help all the dogs in the rescue, some of which require extensive medical care. Thank you for caring for the greater good. Adoption fee is $150 and you can adopt me at www.polkadogz.org.

Adult (9 years) · Female · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (long coat) · 66 mi from Palm Bay

NOTE: Cici and Cubby are bonded and must be adopted together:
Read more about Cici
Meet Cici and Cubby. Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn, and two little hearts find themselves wondering what happened to their world they once knew. That’s what happened to Cubby and Cici. After a death in their family, these two beloved companions were surrendered to our rescue. Cubby, at 12 years old and Cici, at 9 years old, suddenly found themselves in an unfamiliar place, scared and confused. After years of knowing the comfort of home, everything they knew had changed. But with a little love, patience and affection, these two sweet souls are finding their way through again. They’re learning that there are still kind hands to pet them, loving arms to hold them and people who care.
Cici - our precious little booty girl! Oh, sweet Cici! Where do we begin with this adorable 9-year-old yorky. She is the cutest little munchkin with a charming little sway and waddle to her walk. Her foster mom affectionately calls her "my little booty girl," and once you see her toddling along, you’ll understand why. She’s absolutely precious! Cici is a quiet little girl with a sweet personality and a special way of letting you know what she wants. Sometimes she’ll talk to you a little and I have a feeling she’s trying to tell me something important. Maybe she’d like a little pick up and to carry her around. Maybe she wants a little snack. Or perhaps she simply thinks it’s time for a little extra attention. After all, a girl deserves to be spoiled now and then. And Cici certainly knows how to melt your heart. She’s a loving little sweetheart who would be perfectly happy being carried around by her favorite person, enjoying the comfort of knowing she’s safe and loved. She has a gentle presence that makes you want to scoop her up, give her kisses and tell her everything‘s going to be all right. Cici is doing well with her house training - uses peepee pads - along with walks and backyard outings. She does great on a leash and loves going for walks and she’s great on car rides. But wherever Cici goes there is one very important companion she wants by her side, her beloved Cubby.
Cubby is a little gentleman with a big heart! Cubby is a 12-year-old male dachshund with the most beautiful soft red fur and a heart full of love. He’s an affectionate, friendly little gentleman who seems to know that life is sweeter when you have someone special by your side and for Cubby, that someone is his best girl Cici. Cubby is a calm, quiet boy who doesn’t bark much but don’t mistake his quiet nature for a lack of personality. He’s always happy to welcome a kind person, enjoy a good pet, and soak up a little extra affection. He loves his walks meeting new people and stretching out in the yard to enjoy a little sunshine. Because of his friendliness, he will make a wonderful companion. Cubby also rides quietly, he is house trained on peepee pads, walks well on leash and enjoys frequent trips outside. At this stage of his life, Cubby isn’t asking for much - he wants the simple things: a soft place to rest, a gentle hand to pet him, a sunny spot in the yard, and someone who will love him for the sweet little soul he is. Most of all he wants his sweet little Cici close.
Cubby and Cici are looking for a forever home together. They deserve to stay side-by-side, sharing their days with a family who will cherish and love them both now they are ready for their next chapter. Can you open your hearts to this sweet duo? If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and have the perfect home for Cubby and Cici, complete an app and tell us more about yourself.

21. Harrison Yorkie On Wheels
Adult · Male · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie · 92 mi from Palm Bay

All adoptions include a home visit. You must live in Broward or Palm Beach County.HarrisonYorkshire Terrier · Almost 8 Years Old · 7 lbs There are dogs that make you rethink everything you thought you knew about limitations. Harrison is one of them. This seven-pound Yorkshire Terrier moves through life with a joy so contagious it stops people in their tracks. He is paralyzed in his lower legs, and he has absolutely no interest in letting that define him. Strap him into his wheelchair and watch him bounce around with an enthusiasm that makes you wonder why you ever complained about anything. When he is out of his wheels, his padded drag bag keeps his legs protected so he can maneuver comfortably and confidently on his own terms.
Read more about Harrison Yorkie On Wheels
Harrison does not need your sympathy. He needs your company, a good throw of his favorite toy, and a warm spot to cuddle when the fetch session is over.He is playful, loving, hypoallergenic, and deeply social with people. Take him out into the world, and he greets it like a dog who knows exactly how good life is. He has earned that perspective.Harrison does have a heart murmur and is managed comfortably on cardiac medication, which Get A Life Pet Rescue will cover for life. He also needs his bladder expressed every six hours during waking hours, a gentle, simple technique involving light pressure on each side of the bladder to release urine. Because Harrison does not drink water through the night, this is not needed after he settles in for the evening, making nighttime completely manageable for any household. We will make sure every adopter and their network is fully trained and confident in this before Harrison goes to his devoted home. And that word, network, is the heart of what Harrison needs most. His ideal adopter is someone who loves him fiercely and also comes prepared with a circle of trusted, trained people around them. Dog sitters, neighbors, family members, close friends, anyone who can step in on a long day away from home or during travel to provide his care on schedule. This does not need to be complicated or large. It simply needs to exist. Get A Life Pet Rescue will provide full hands-on training for everyone in that circle, and we will do our best to serve as a backup sitter ourselves when we are available. In return for that village, Harrison will give every single person in it something they did not expect. He will show up to every interaction with his whole heart, fetch game ready, cuddle mode fully operational, and that unmistakable Yorkie spark that reminds you that the size of a life has nothing to do with the size of the body living it.Harrison is not a dog who needs to be saved. He has already saved himself. He is simply waiting for the right people to recognize what an extraordinary privilege it is to be chosen by him.Get A Life Pet Rescue will cover Harrison's cardiac medication and basic veterinary care at our vet in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for life. Bowie is house trained, but will also use pee pads if he is alone for extended periods. He does good on a leash but stays close and sometimes behind the person walking.
Foster update: Bowie has been a wonderful addition to our home and is ready to find his forever family!
Bowie is a sweet, loving dog with a medium energy level. He quickly bonded with his foster family and enjoys being close to his people, often following them throughout the house. He gets along well with other dogs, kids, cats and enjoys meeting new people.
Bowie walks nicely on a leash and, once he became comfortable in his foster home, started showing off his playful side with zoomies around the yard.

23. Leona
Young (2 years 7 months) · Female · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 66 mi from Palm Bay

Leona is a sweet and spunky little girl. She appears to be a chihuahua mix, possibly with a dash of Feist. Although she was initially estimated to be 3 years old, her behavior and energy level after settling into her foster home suggest that she may be closer to 1–2 years old. She weighs about 7.6 pounds.
Leona is house-trained, but because she is still young, she needs to go outside every couple of hours to reinforce her training. She would love a securely fenced yard, but one is not required because she walks like a superstar on her leash. In moderate temperatures, she can easily walk more than one mile!
Read more about Leona
This bright, playful girl is happiest when she has an active family and a canine playmate who is at least her size and has a similar energy level and enthusiasm for play. Leona gets along wonderfully with her three foster siblings; however, they are all seniors and much smaller than she is. When she gets excited, Leona can play a little roughly, so she would do best with a confident, playful dog who can match her energy level and with people who will supervise interactions and help her practice good manners.
Leona also loves chewing on her antler bones and especially enjoys tearing apart her colorful wool balls. These wool balls are nontoxic and designed to be destroyed. Her fosters will send a few along with her in case her new family would like to continue providing her favorite toy. So far, Leona has not shown much interest in stuffed toys, ropes or tug toys, although that could change.
Leona can be cautious when meeting new people, but she warms up quickly—especially when they have cheese or dog cookies! Patient introductions, positive reinforcement, and allowing her to approach at her own pace will help her feel comfortable and build trust.
Leona sleeps quietly through the night in bed with her people, and we would like that to continue in her new home. She is generally quiet, but when she does not immediately get her way, she can become loud and vocal. She is a fast learner though, and usually settles down quickly. Leona is crate-trained, but she may initially cry before settling down. Her new family should be prepared to continue building her comfort with the crate and to use consistent, reward-based training to help her mature.
For these reasons, Leona needs a family with breed experience who understands that her small size comes with plenty of energy, opinions and personality. She will thrive with people who enjoy daily walks, interactive play, structure and continued training—and who will appreciate her affectionate, entertaining nature. Because of her small size, Leona needs a home with adults only, or if there are children in the home they must be responsible and respectful towards animals.
Leona is a beautiful, energetic and intelligent dog who very much wants to be someone’s special baby. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you have the active, patient and committed home she needs, please complete an application and tell us more about yourself!

Meet Figaro!
Figaro is approximately 4 years old, weighs 14 pounds, and appears to be a Poodle mix, possibly with Shih Tzu thrown into the family tree.
Read more about Figaro
He’s also a brand-new arrival, and Figaro would like everyone to know that he already has opinions.
This funny little guy likes to talk, and he isn’t shy about adding his own commentary to whatever is happening around him. We’re still learning his full vocabulary, but something tells us life with Figaro is not going to be quiet or boring.
He’s good with other dogs and has already revealed one very important piece of information about himself: Figaro LOVES treats. If negotiations are ever required, we know exactly where to begin.
Figaro came to us needing some grooming, and his makeover is still a work in progress. Underneath all that hair is a handsome little guy slowly emerging, one snip at a time.
Because he’s new to Canine Castaways, we’re still getting to know him. There’s plenty left to discover about his personality, habits, and what kind of home will suit him best.
But so far?
He’s funny. He’s chatty. He likes dogs. He loves snacks. And apparently, he has a lot to say about all of it.
Stay tuned. We have a feeling Figaro is just getting started.

WEIGHT: 12 lbs as of Sept 22, 2026
SOME COOL INFORMATION ABOUT ME:
Meet Moxie!
Moxie is a 7-month-old, 12-pound girl who is still figuring out just how big and wonderful the world can be.
Read more about Moxie
Right now, Moxie is a very timid puppy. New people, new situations, and unfamiliar things can make her unsure, so we’re spending time helping her build confidence and learn that she doesn’t have to be afraid.
She’s good with other dogs, and having canine friends around gives her opportunities to play, learn, and watch how the more confident dogs navigate the world.
Because Moxie is still young and we’re still getting to know her, there’s plenty we haven’t discovered yet. Her personality is still unfolding, and we suspect there’s a lot more puppy hiding underneath that cautious exterior.
What Moxie needs most is someone who understands that confidence isn’t something you can rush. A patient family willing to encourage her, celebrate the little victories, and give her the time she needs could make an enormous difference in her life.
We are only considering homes in our local area - 1 hour or less from Arcadia FL. If you have adopted from us before and are slightly out of that area, please contact us directly and we can discuss it. Moxie still needs to be spayed. All appointments for spay/neuter surgery will be done at our vet's office in Arcadia so you must be willing to bring him to his appointment in order to be considered for adoption.

This is Get A Life Pet Rescue, Dolly. And it is so nice to have you rehab here where you belong. When little Dolly came to us, life had not been kind to her. She arrived with a severe eye injury, far too underweight, and far too malnourished for the dental work and spay she so desperately needed. But she came to us, and that changed everything. We provided the surgery to remove her injured eye and get her comfortable, and from that moment on, this tiny five-pound Powder Puff began the most important comeback of her life. You're lookin' swell, Dolly.

Adopting a small dog in Palm Bay
Small dogs suit apartments and smaller homes, are easy to take along, and many live well into their teens.
They still need daily walks, play and training. Small dogs can be fragile, so ask the rescue how they are with young children, who can easily drop or step on them.
