Meet Waylon!

But when playtime is over, his favorite place might just be your lap! He's a little guy who loves to cuddle just as much as he loves to wrestle and have fun.
Read more about Rhett
Rhett is also super dog-friendly! He may need a little time to warm up to larger dogs and can be a bit more dominant with other males, so he may do best in a home with a female canine companion. He's friendly with cats, although they make him a little nervous (he's more terrified of them than anything!).

Enjoys running, playing, and wrestling
Loves cuddling in a lap

4. Jack
5 Years 2 Months · Male · Rat Terrier · 13 mi from Rio Pinar

Meet
Jack
!
If you're looking for a loyal little shadow who will shower you with affection, entertain you with his antics, and happily accept belly rubs as a full-time job, Jack might just be your perfect match!
Jack is an approximately 5-year-old, 10-pound Rat Terrier with a BIG personality and an even BIGGER heart! This handsome little guy has perfected the art of being absolutely adorable, and he knows exactly how to use it to his advantage.
❤️ Professional Snuggler, Reporting for Duty!
Read more about Jack
Jack is a lover through and through! Personal space? Never heard of it. Jack believes that if you have two hands, at least one should be petting him at all times. He absolutely adores affection, kisses, and cuddles, and his favorite position is flat on his back, belly exposed, patiently waiting for you to get to work!
Because Jack loves his humans so much, his dream home would be with someone who works from home, is retired, or simply spends plenty of time at home. He's not looking for a roommate. He's looking for a best friend!
Toys, Toys & MORE Toys!
Jack takes his toys VERY seriously! He's a fetch enthusiast and a self-appointed squeaker removal specialist. Give him a stuffed toy, and he'll happily demonstrate his impressive ability to locate the squeaker and remove every last bit of fluff. The good news? Jack knows the difference between his toys and your belongings. He's not interested in chewing your shoes or furniture. He's got much more important work to do!
A Smart Little Guy with a Few Opinions!
Jack is crate trained, walks nicely on a leash, and knows how to sit and stay. Although, if we're being fair, he thinks standing on his hind legs is a much more impressive trick than sitting!
He's also a pretty good communicator. Jack will let you know when he'd like to go outside, when he thinks a treat is overdue, or when someone unfamiliar might be approaching. He's got a little watchdog in him, and he's not afraid to use his voice!
And speaking of treats, CHEESE IS LIFE! If you want the key to Jack's heart, you might want to stock up!
Jack's Perfect Forever Home
Jack is doing well with his potty training when kept on a consistent routine, especially being taken outside immediately after meals. He also prefers having his human accompany him outside. After all, why should he go on an adventure alone when you could come along?
Jack gets along with other dog, however, he does believe that all food should rightfully belong to him! He should be fed separate from other pets and may give a quiet warning growl if another dog approaches while he's eating. Giving him his own dining space keeps everyone happy.
While Jack can live with another dog, he would be equally thrilled to be your one and only! In fact, having all the toys, belly rubs, and affection to himself sounds like a pretty fabulous arrangement to him.
The Bottom Line?
Jack is a sweet, affectionate, playful little character who wants nothing more than to be someone's constant companion. He'll make you laugh with his toy-destroying talents, charm you with his hind-leg performances, and melt your heart with his endless requests for love.
He's not asking for much. Just a cozy home, a steady supply of toys, a little cheese, and someone who doesn't mind having a 10-pound shadow following them everywhere.
His adoption donation is $250 & will include age-appropriate vaccines, microchip, and neuter. Please follow the link to submit an application:

5. Clementine
2 Years 2 Months · Female · Rat Terrier · 13 mi from Rio Pinar

Meet Clementine 10 Pounds of Sweetness Looking for Her Safe Place!
At just 2 years old and a whopping 10 pounds, Clementine may be tiny, but she has a BIG story to tell. Clementine is one of 14 terrier mixes Hunter's Village Rescue welcomed from a heartbreaking hoarding case involving 85 dogs in Lake County. While we don't know everything about her past, we do know that this sweet little Rat Terrier is learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and cherished.
And if there's one thing Clementine has figured out already, it's that a warm lap is pretty much the greatest place on Earth!
Here's what we're learning about our little Cutie Clementine:
Read more about Clementine
Professional Lap Warmer: Clementine absolutely LOVES snuggling with her humans. Give her a cozy lap and some love, and she's one happy little girl!
House Manners Superstar: In her first five days in foster care, she's only had TWO accidents! Pretty impressive for a little girl adjusting to an entirely new world!
Doggy Relationships: Clementine is still figuring out life with other dogs. She's making progress with her foster sister, but she can be protective of her crate, especially when food is involved. Interestingly, she's perfectly happy enjoying treats alongside her foster sister outside of her crate! She may do best with a patient, respectful canine companion or as someone's one-and-only princess.
Walks? Hard Pass! Clementine hasn't quite embraced the whole leash-and-harness concept. In fact, she's absolutely terrified of it! Her current walking strategy involves planting all four paws firmly on the ground and refusing to budge. Her foster family has resorted to carrying her along on walks. Fortunately, at 8 pounds, she's pretty portable!
❤️ A Tender Little Heart: Clementine is still skittish and easily frightened by unfamiliar experiences. She's going to need a patient family who understands that trust takes time and who will celebrate all those little victories along the way. Her foster family says she’s becoming more and more silly as the days go on and it seems she’s got a fun and energetic side of her that she’s just now feeling safe enough to show.
✨ Clementine's Dream Home ✨
We're looking for someone who doesn't need a dog that's ready to conquer the world on day one. Someone who understands that sometimes the biggest accomplishments come in the tiniest packages.
A family willing to give her time, patience, a predictable routine, and plenty of reassurance as she learns that life can be wonderful.
And, of course, a warm lap is absolutely nonnegotiable! ❤️
Clementine has already been through more than any little dog should have to experience. Now it's her turn to discover the good stuff: soft beds, gentle hands, unconditional love, and a family to call her very own. Her adoption donation is $250 and will include vaccines, microchip and spay Please follow this link to submit an application: https://bit.ly/3GDeyyo

At 13 years young and just 12 pounds, Ellie May is a tiny little lady with a whole lot of love to give! She's the resident mother hen at the rescue, always happy to play with, cuddle, and keep an eye on the puppies—even though they're not her own! She's got a natural nurturing side and seems to enjoy being the honorary grandma of the bunch. ❤️
Read more about Ellie Mae
When she's not busy keeping the puppies company, Ellie May is perfectly content to kick back and enjoy the good life. She's a true lazy old lady who appreciates the finer things, especially cozy naps, cuddles, and FOOD! She's definitely food motivated, so treats are a great way to win her heart.
Ellie May can be a little particular about the men in her life, so she'd do best with someone who understands her boundaries and gives her time to warm up.
Ellie Mae is one of 14 terrier mixes Hunter's Village Rescue welcomed from a heartbreaking hoarding case involving 85 dogs in Lake County. While we don't know everything about her past, we do know that this sweet little Rat Terrier is learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and cherished.

9. Mara & Emily
Senior · Female · Dachshund (short coat) · 16 mi from Rio Pinar

Meet Mara (red) & Emily (black & tan); aka Ginger & MaryAnn, lol. These bonded sisters are 12 years old & the sweetest pair ever! They are on the smaller size, weighing in at about 11 pounds each, are up-to-date on their shots & are spayed.
Both are potty trained as long as taken out regularly. They are crate trained & sleep the night thru together. They get along with other small dogs, not sure about cats or large dogs. Both are a little shy at first, but warm up to new people very quickly. Mara & Emily do well on a leash and enjoy lizard hunting in the backyard or sitting in the sun like most doxies.
Mara is a bit more special needs and has IVDD, so she gets a monthly Librella injection at the vet which keeps her mobile.
Read more about Mara & Emily
She gets around on her own & does not need any help pottying. Mara doesn’t do stairs but has learned to use a dog ramp to get to her favorite spot on the couch.
They both had horrible dental disease, so DARE recently had dentals done; Emily lost all her teeth & Mara still has about 4 remaining. Therefore, they are on soft foods.
They love snuggling together when they are not snuggling on the coach with their person. These two gals are very low key & easy going girls who would do best in a quiet home.
Mara & Emily MUST stay together & are being fostered in Orlando but travel very well in a car. If you think these two would make a good addition to your family, please fill out an adoption application & put their names on it. ♥

13. Arlo
Adult (5 years) · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 17 mi from Rio Pinar

Meet Arlo, a 5-year-old Chihuahua mix weighing approximately 10 pounds. After his owner unexpectedly passed away, Arlo lost the only person and home he had ever known and was surrendered to rescue. Despite such a difficult change, this sweet little guy is settling into foster care and looking for a loving home where he can feel safe and secure again.
Arlo is a laid-back, easygoing boy who simply needs a little time to become comfortable with new people. Once he warms up, he loves attention and being close to his person. He can be vocal and sometimes growls as a way of expressing himself, but his foster mom reports that he has never attempted to bite.
Read more about Arlo
Because he can be nervous around children, a home without small children would be best.
Arlo currently lives with five other dogs and gets along well with them. He is relaxed and super chill, making him a wonderful companion for someone looking for a little buddy to share their days with.
He is still working on house training and will need a patient family willing to continue helping him learn. Arlo is crate trained, although the crate isn't his favorite place and he may need a few minutes to settle. At night, his favorite place is snuggled up with his person, but he can also sleep comfortably in his crate.
Arlo would thrive in a home where someone is around much of the time and he won't routinely be left alone for long periods. After losing the person and home he loved, he deserves a family who will give him the security, companionship, and affection he needs to feel at home again.
Arlo is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. He's ready to begin his next chapter with a family of his own.

Due to overcrowding at that rescue, they reached out to see if we had space to take him. 18. Buster
Adult (3 years) · Male · Hound / Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 20 mi from Rio Pinar

Meet Buster!Buster was found by a long time volunteer/supporter of PRBJ. They posted for him all over for weeks with no one coming forward to claim this sweet boy. At first, he is strong on the leash, but as he starts walking, he settles in. He likes playing in the yard with balls, so we think his ideal home should have a fenced yard where he can run and romp around. Buster is not a fan of being crated..what Hound is.... but has slowly gotten used to the idea. He would prefer not to be confined and would enjoy free roaming in his new home.Buster's ideal home would have a fenced backyard to explore and play in and an active family...maybe some kids to play ball with...and folks who are around for him to hang with and love on.

Adopting a dog in Rio Pinar
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
