1. Emmett
Adult (1 year 6 months) · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 14 mi from Sanford

Meet Emmett — A Little Love Bug with Soulful Eyes! 17.5 pounds | Approximately 1.5 years old | Chihuahua mix
Don’t let Emmett’s serious little face fool you — underneath those soulful caramel eyes is the sweetest, most affectionate love bug you could ever hope to meet! This adorable 17½-pound Chihuahua mix is happiest when he’s curled up in a lap, snuggled in someone’s arms, or peacefully snoozing nearby. He has a mellow, easygoing personality and low-to-moderate energy, making him a wonderful companion for someone who appreciates a dog who is just as content relaxing at home as he is exploring the world at his own pace.
Read more about Emmett
Emmett has a gentle, sweet disposition that makes him a joy to have around. He gets along well with other dogs, including his slightly larger foster sibling, although he isn't particularly interested in roughhousing or playing. He has also done well around cats so far. He mostly ignores them and has shown no aggression, making him a promising candidate for a home with feline friends. He's a quiet little gentleman, too! Emmett isn't much of a barker, even when someone knocks at the door, and he rides beautifully in the car. He's so mellow and tolerant that he doesn't even mind having his nails trimmed.
At night, he sleeps comfortably in his own bed, and when left alone, he settles down quietly and behaves himself. He's also discovering the fun of toys and seems especially fond of soft, squeaky ones. Emmett is still learning a few things and will need a patient adopter willing to help him continue building good habits. He is doing great with his house training since he was neutered. He's also learning to walk on a leash, although his walks currently involve a fair amount of stopping and starting as he figures things out.
The good news? Emmett is a sweet, easygoing little guy who seems eager to enjoy the comforts of home. He has no known medical issues, and his loving nature makes him incredibly easy to adore. And when he's not snuggling in your lap, you might find him fast asleep on his back with all four legs sticking straight up in the air — an absolutely irresistible sight!
Emmett is looking for a loving home where he can be cherished for the affectionate, gentle little soul he is. If you're hoping for a loyal companion who will happily keep your lap warm, offer endless sweetness, and bring a little extra love into your everyday life, Emmett may be your perfect match. Those caramel eyes and that beautiful heart just might steal yours!

2. Milo
Adult (3 years) · Male · Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 14 mi from Sanford

NOTE: Milo and Miss Mitt are bonded and must be adopted together
Milo is an approx. 3-year-old, 7 1/2lb. terrier mix with the sweetest soul and the most adorable puppy-dog eyes. This mellow little sweetheart has perfected the art of melting hearts just by looking at you. His favorite place to be is curled up on your lap, snuggled beside his human, or joining you for a nice, cozy nap. If your idea of a perfect day involves cuddles, affection, and a little furry shadow following you around, Milo may be your dream companion.
Read more about Milo
While Milo is a pretty laid-back guy, he also enjoys getting out and about with his people. He loves car rides, trips to the pet store, visits to the park, and, of course, a special pup cup along the way. He’s a smart little guy who learns quickly and is very receptive to training. He also walks beautifully on a leash, making him a wonderful little walking companion. Milo is mostly happy to take life at a relaxed pace, but he has a playful side, too.
One of the most special things about Milo is his bond with his best girl, Miss Mitt. These two absolutely adore each other. They love chasing each other around the house and outside, and Miss Mitt has a magical way of bringing out Milo’s playful side and getting those zoomies going. When they aren’t busy playing, you can usually find them cuddled up together. At night, they love snuggling in bed with their humans. Their bond is truly something special, and they must be adopted together.
Milo is incredibly sweet and gentle with children and doesn’t pay much attention to cats. He is also friendly with other dogs and has a very easygoing nature. He really is just a little lover who wants to make friends and soak up affection. Milo is crate trained and can stay in his crate when his humans leave the house. He will use pee pads during the night if he needs to go, and will go potty outside as long as he is taken out often.
Milo’s dream family is one that LOVES affection as much as he does. We’re talking lots of pets, cuddles, hugs, cozy naps, and plenty of quality time with his favorite people. He would thrive with a family who wants a loving little companion by their side and understands that the best part of having a dog is all the love you get to share. And, of course, his family must be ready to welcome his beloved Miss Mitt, too. Milo and Miss Mitt have so much love to give and are hoping to find a forever family who will cherish them both. They do have a little separation anxiety, so we want someone who is home more often than not, and apartment living would not be suitable for them because they can be a little barky for a short while when their people leave. They are not destructive though. We are not requiring a fenced yard, but they would love to have a secure area to run around and play in. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and think these two sweethearts might be the perfect fit for your family, complete an adoption application and tell us more about you. Milo promises to bring the puppy eyes, the cuddles, and a whole lot of love into your life!

3. Miss Mitt
Adult (3 years) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (long coat) · 14 mi from Sanford

NOTE: Miss Mitt and Milo are bonded and must be adopted together
Miss Mitt is an approx. 3-year-old, 7 1/2lb. terrier mix with a BIG personality packed into her little body! This spunky, happy-go-lucky girl has a way of making everyone smile. Whether she’s racing around the house with the cutest zoomies or showering her favorite people with kisses, Miss Mitt brings so much joy wherever she goes. If you’re looking for a little companion who will keep you laughing and fill your days with love, this girl might just be your perfect match.
Read more about Miss Mitt
Miss Mitt is full of energy and loves to play, especially with children! She is incredibly affectionate with kids, loves running around and playing catch with them, and is even happy to be held and give out plenty of kisses. When playtime is over, she’s just as happy to cuddle up with her human for some quality snuggle time. She truly has the best of both worlds: a playful little firecracker who also loves to be loved on.
Miss Mitt has a very special bond with her best friend, Milo, and these two are a package deal. She absolutely adores him and loves cuddling up to him, giving him kisses, and chasing him around the house and yard. She even has a way of bringing out Milo’s playful side and getting his zoomies going, which is just the cutest thing to watch. At the end of the day, they love snuggling up together with their humans. Their bond is incredibly sweet, and they must be adopted together.
Miss Mitt doesn’t pay much attention to cats, so feline friends are generally no big deal to her. She can be a little cautious and occasionally feisty around other dogs, though, so slow introductions and thoughtful management will be important.
She is currently working on her leash manners, as she gets so excited about her walks that she sometimes wants to pull ahead and pick up the pace. With a little guidance, she can be redirected, and she does well walking alongside Milo. Miss Mitt is crate trained and does well staying in her crate when her humans leave the house. She may be a little vocal at first, but she settles down. At night, she and Milo love to snuggle up and sleep in bed with their humans. She will use pee pads during the night if she needs to go, and will go potty outside as long as she is taken out often. She does great riding in a car.
Miss Mitt is looking for a loving family who will embrace her fun-loving personality, give her plenty of opportunities to play, and make room for lots of cuddles and kisses. Most importantly, she needs a family with room in their hearts for both her and Milo. These two have so much love to give and are ready to find a forever home where they can continue being best friends for life. They do have a little separation anxiety, so we want someone who is home more often than not, and apartment living would not be suitable for them because they can be a little barky for a short while when their people leave. They are not destructive though. We are not requiring a fenced yard, but they would love to have a secure area to run around and play in. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe Miss Mitt and Milo might be the perfect additions to your family, complete an adoption application and tell us more about you. Miss Mitt promises to bring the sunshine, the silliness, and plenty of kisses!

Adult (9 years) · Female · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (long coat) · 14 mi from Sanford

NOTE: Cici and Cubby are bonded and must be adopted together:
Read more about Cici
Meet Cici and Cubby. Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn, and two little hearts find themselves wondering what happened to their world they once knew. That’s what happened to Cubby and Cici. After a death in their family, these two beloved companions were surrendered to our rescue. Cubby, at 12 years old and Cici, at 9 years old, suddenly found themselves in an unfamiliar place, scared and confused. After years of knowing the comfort of home, everything they knew had changed. But with a little love, patience and affection, these two sweet souls are finding their way through again. They’re learning that there are still kind hands to pet them, loving arms to hold them and people who care.
Cici - our precious little booty girl! Oh, sweet Cici! Where do we begin with this adorable 9-year-old yorky. She is the cutest little munchkin with a charming little sway and waddle to her walk. Her foster mom affectionately calls her "my little booty girl," and once you see her toddling along, you’ll understand why. She’s absolutely precious! Cici is a quiet little girl with a sweet personality and a special way of letting you know what she wants. Sometimes she’ll talk to you a little and I have a feeling she’s trying to tell me something important. Maybe she’d like a little pick up and to carry her around. Maybe she wants a little snack. Or perhaps she simply thinks it’s time for a little extra attention. After all, a girl deserves to be spoiled now and then. And Cici certainly knows how to melt your heart. She’s a loving little sweetheart who would be perfectly happy being carried around by her favorite person, enjoying the comfort of knowing she’s safe and loved. She has a gentle presence that makes you want to scoop her up, give her kisses and tell her everything‘s going to be all right. Cici is doing well with her house training - uses peepee pads - along with walks and backyard outings. She does great on a leash and loves going for walks and she’s great on car rides. But wherever Cici goes there is one very important companion she wants by her side, her beloved Cubby.
Cubby is a little gentleman with a big heart! Cubby is a 12-year-old male dachshund with the most beautiful soft red fur and a heart full of love. He’s an affectionate, friendly little gentleman who seems to know that life is sweeter when you have someone special by your side and for Cubby, that someone is his best girl Cici. Cubby is a calm, quiet boy who doesn’t bark much but don’t mistake his quiet nature for a lack of personality. He’s always happy to welcome a kind person, enjoy a good pet, and soak up a little extra affection. He loves his walks meeting new people and stretching out in the yard to enjoy a little sunshine. Because of his friendliness, he will make a wonderful companion. Cubby also rides quietly, he is house trained on peepee pads, walks well on leash and enjoys frequent trips outside. At this stage of his life, Cubby isn’t asking for much - he wants the simple things: a soft place to rest, a gentle hand to pet him, a sunny spot in the yard, and someone who will love him for the sweet little soul he is. Most of all he wants his sweet little Cici close.
Cubby and Cici are looking for a forever home together. They deserve to stay side-by-side, sharing their days with a family who will cherish and love them both now they are ready for their next chapter. Can you open your hearts to this sweet duo? 9. Leona
Young (2 years 7 months) · Female · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 14 mi from Sanford

Leona is a sweet and spunky little girl. She appears to be a chihuahua mix, possibly with a dash of Feist. Although she was initially estimated to be 3 years old, her behavior and energy level after settling into her foster home suggest that she may be closer to 1–2 years old. She weighs about 7.6 pounds.
Leona is house-trained, but because she is still young, she needs to go outside every couple of hours to reinforce her training. She would love a securely fenced yard, but one is not required because she walks like a superstar on her leash. In moderate temperatures, she can easily walk more than one mile!
Read more about Leona
This bright, playful girl is happiest when she has an active family and a canine playmate who is at least her size and has a similar energy level and enthusiasm for play. Leona gets along wonderfully with her three foster siblings; however, they are all seniors and much smaller than she is. When she gets excited, Leona can play a little roughly, so she would do best with a confident, playful dog who can match her energy level and with people who will supervise interactions and help her practice good manners.
Leona also loves chewing on her antler bones and especially enjoys tearing apart her colorful wool balls. These wool balls are nontoxic and designed to be destroyed. Her fosters will send a few along with her in case her new family would like to continue providing her favorite toy. So far, Leona has not shown much interest in stuffed toys, ropes or tug toys, although that could change.
Leona can be cautious when meeting new people, but she warms up quickly—especially when they have cheese or dog cookies! Patient introductions, positive reinforcement, and allowing her to approach at her own pace will help her feel comfortable and build trust.
Leona sleeps quietly through the night in bed with her people, and we would like that to continue in her new home. She is generally quiet, but when she does not immediately get her way, she can become loud and vocal. She is a fast learner though, and usually settles down quickly. Leona is crate-trained, but she may initially cry before settling down. Her new family should be prepared to continue building her comfort with the crate and to use consistent, reward-based training to help her mature.
For these reasons, Leona needs a family with breed experience who understands that her small size comes with plenty of energy, opinions and personality. She will thrive with people who enjoy daily walks, interactive play, structure and continued training—and who will appreciate her affectionate, entertaining nature. Because of her small size, Leona needs a home with adults only, or if there are children in the home they must be responsible and respectful towards animals.
Leona is a beautiful, energetic and intelligent dog who very much wants to be someone’s special baby. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you have the active, patient and committed home she needs, please complete an application and tell us more about yourself!

10. Arlo
Adult (5 years) · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 3 mi from Sanford

Meet Arlo, a 5-year-old Chihuahua mix weighing approximately 10 pounds. After his owner unexpectedly passed away, Arlo lost the only person and home he had ever known and was surrendered to rescue. Despite such a difficult change, this sweet little guy is settling into foster care and looking for a loving home where he can feel safe and secure again.
Arlo is a laid-back, easygoing boy who simply needs a little time to become comfortable with new people. Once he warms up, he loves attention and being close to his person. He can be vocal and sometimes growls as a way of expressing himself, but his foster mom reports that he has never attempted to bite.
Read more about Arlo
Because he can be nervous around children, a home without small children would be best.
Arlo currently lives with five other dogs and gets along well with them. He is relaxed and super chill, making him a wonderful companion for someone looking for a little buddy to share their days with.
He is still working on house training and will need a patient family willing to continue helping him learn. Arlo is crate trained, although the crate isn't his favorite place and he may need a few minutes to settle. At night, his favorite place is snuggled up with his person, but he can also sleep comfortably in his crate.
Arlo would thrive in a home where someone is around much of the time and he won't routinely be left alone for long periods. After losing the person and home he loved, he deserves a family who will give him the security, companionship, and affection he needs to feel at home again.
Arlo is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines. He's ready to begin his next chapter with a family of his own.

11. Jackie
Adult (4 years 1 month) · Female · Chihuahua / Corgi / Mixed (short coat) · 14 mi from Sanford

Meet Jackie! This adorable 4-year-old, 11-lb. chihuahua mix looks like a little chi-corgi and has a heart just as big as her personality!
Jackie was a last-call dog at the shelter due to a hernia that required emergency surgery. Thankfully, she was given a second chance, and today she’s healthy, happy and ready for her next chapter!
Jackie may be timid when you first meet her, but once she trusts you, she bonds with her entire heart. She has medium energy and LOVES to work! When she gets excited, her little body spins, and her tail wags as fast as it possibly can. It’s impossible not to smile watching her. She also enjoys playing with toys.
Read more about Jackie
She gets along with other dogs but is more of a laid-back companion than a playful pup. Her favorite thing is being close to her people and soaking up all the cuddles she can get. Since she is timid upon meeting, if the home has kids they should be older, respectful and know how to approach her calmly. She needs to build a relationship with her people, and learn trust with strangers. We do want an active family for her, one who can take her on daily walks, on adventures with them, and include her as part of the family.
Jackie is crate-trained is currently completing a board-and-train program, where she’s learning excellent leash manners, recall, and a solid place/stay. Since she is in a kennel, we are not 100% sure if she is house trained, but we think it is best if she can be taken out on a consistent schedule.
After everything this little girl has been through, she deserves a family who will give her the love, security and happily-ever-after she’s been waiting for. Could Jackie be your perfect little sidekick?

12. Chico Meeko
Young (1 year 5 months) · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 14 mi from Sanford

Meet Chico Meeko! Chico is a 1-year-old, 10-lb Chihuahua mix with a big personality! He’s affectionate, loves cuddling, training, going on adventures, or just chilling with his human. Chico is crate trained and working on potty training but wears a belly band without issue. He finished up a board and train where he kicked booty and took names, learning how to heel on leash, place/stay, and recall. Chico is a super playful kiddo both with people and dogs, he also doesn’t mind a kitty friend or two! He loves toys and picks out several from the toy box. Like most dogs, Chico would do best eating in his crate away from any furry family members as he would prefer not to share his meals.
Read more about Chico Meeko
He’s nervous of thunderstorms but if you can be his thunderstorm buddy he would take on any storm as long as he’s by your side. Chico would thrive in an adult-only home (or with older kids if the home has kids) where he will receive structure and routine. Meet Stretch!
Stretch, Spot, and Little Man came to PRBJ from an overcrowded shelter after being rescued from a hoarding situation where the home had over 50 dogs. These dogs are all nervous and have no manners, not talking about sit, stay, paw I am talking about they are used to climbing on tables or counters if they can find a way up. But they are SWEET and just need to each find a patient owner who can help them and maybe another dog in the house to show them what a dog is supposed to be like :)

14. Elio
Adult (7 years 4 months) · Male · Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (medium coat) · 14 mi from Sanford

Elio is an approx 7yo, 14lb., white miniature poodle. He arrived at the shelter as a super-matted stray that had clearly been abused and neglected and had painful dental disease. He has come a very long way. Elio received a dental cleaning and extractions along with a neuter. Elio will go stand by the door when he wants to go outside, but has also used doggy diapers. He is crate trained, but strongly prefers a large dog crate with a dog bed or pillow inside, with the top and sides covered in blankets. Elio sleeps through the night in his crate without issue if the front of his crate is also covered by a blanket.
Read more about Elio
Elio walks well on a leash and knows commands such as “let’s go,” “free,” and “this way.” Elio also knows “sit,” “stay,” “here,” “leave it,” and “find it.” Elio is super smart and very food motivated, which makes him easy to train. Elio gets along with all dogs, but he has resource-guarded a Kong filled with peanut butter, so it’s important to let him enjoy that type of enrichment in a separate space, such as a crate or different room. Elio really loves his soft toys too, especially crinkle toys. He will follow you from room to room and transfer his toys from place to place one toy at a time. Elio is afraid of new people and may react with fear aggression; he can also be reactive to people putting their hands near his face and may give a warning snap or growl. This means his adopter will have to be very patient, do a slow introduction, and wait for him to warm up because Elio is still learning that most humans are good and kind and won’t hurt him. When Elio left the shelter, it took five days for him to start to trust his foster parents. He currently lives with a male and a female foster parent, 3 dogs and 2 cats. Elio doesn’t have a prey drive to the cats, but he will bark at them in the same way he will bark at strangers. Elio regularly goes to work with his foster mom at Diversity K9, where he has been successfully socialized with many small dogs under 35 pounds and with all types of play styles. Initially, Elio is very much a shy softy who will prefer to just exist with other dogs in the play yard, but when he gets really comfortable with other dogs in his home, he will get the zoomies and play with other dogs. When this happens, Elio seems like a young, playful puppy. When Elio rides in the car, he needs to be tethered or else he will climb into your lap. He is a very quiet rider, but he is so anxious that he will start to drool a lot and may vomit. His foster parents have been working on correcting this negative association by feeding him his dinner in the car while it is parked in the driveway, and they are already seeing a positive change. This only takes a minute, as he eats all his food right away. He loves to play fetch and will play fetch for as long as you are willing to play with him. Out of an abundance of caution, his foster parents will use at least two toys when playing fetch and do a trade rather than try to take a toy from Elio’s mouth or directly from in front of him. Elio is microchipped and wears a collar at all times with a trackable AirTag, identification tag, and rabies tag, because rescue dogs can be a high flight risk, especially in a new environment. Elio is super loving, but very protective of his people. With time and the right chance, he will become extremely bonded and loyal to his adopter. After everything Elio has survived, he is beyond deserving of his happily ever after! We are adopting Elio to an all-adult home only. He will need regular brushing and grooming. If you live in the Central Florida/Orlando area and believe you have the perfect home for Elio, complete an app and tell us more about you.
