1. Tatiana
Adult (2 years 6 months) · Female · Black Labrador Retriever (short coat)

Tatiana showed up as a stray on a rural Mower County property towards the end of October 2026, and she came to MCHS on 10/26/2026 after the finders held her for a few days. Efforts were made to see if anyone recognized her as the stray hold went on, and she was never owner claimed, so she became available for adoption. She looks to be a purebred black lab and we think she's 2 to 3 years old. She has the typical boisterous and exuberant personality of a lab. She will be vet checked and spayed on November 11th and her fee is $150.
Read more about Tatiana
Tatiana will need some basic training and regular exercise. She's a pretty strong gal. Labs are a lot of fun and can be pretty rambunctious until they reach a more mature age (like 5, 6, 7, etc...). Tatiana is fun loving and happy. We do think she'd do okay with a male dog of similar size and with older kids.

2. Sprout
Puppy (1 month 23 days) · Female · Hound / Retriever / Mixed (short coat)

Sprout (female) is 1 of 9 puppies born at the shelter on September 8th to mother dog Lenore, who appears to be a hound mix. We do not know the father's identity, but we're wondering if the puppies could be mixed with lab or golden retriever, just going by the appearances of some of them. We do expect these puppies to be fairly large dogs at maturity. Sprout will be ready for a new home around the middle of November, after she has had her 2nd of 3 distemper/parvo vaccinations. Her basic vet work will be scheduled with her adopter and must be done WITH one of our vet partners. This includes her 3rd distemper/parvo vaccination, and, when she is old enough, her rabies shot and spay surgery. All of this is covered by us under the adoption fee of $150.

Puppies require a whole lot of time, patience, and training. They are looking for secure, committed homes, ready to keep them for the entirety of their lives. It's not always an easy journey. Sprout and her siblings should do well with other dogs, and they are all young enough to learn to interact appropriately with cats. Very young children might not be suitable as the pups develop manners and learn not to nip and chew. They need homes in which they won't be alone for long hours.

11. Lenore
Adult (2 years 6 months) · Female · Hound / Husky / Mixed (short coat)

Lenore came to the shelter on 8/14/2026 after being found loose in a rural area. We realized pretty quickly after her arrival that she was not alone, and she gave birth to 9 puppies on 9/8/2026. Once her mothering duties were completed and the pups were ready, they all quickly received numerous applications. Lenore is approximately 2 to 3 years old and appears to be a hound mix, possibly coonhound, foxhound, or maybe even beagle. She does have one blue eye so there could be some husky or Australian shepherd in there. She will be fully vetted, including her spay, on Nov. 13th and her fee is $150.
Read more about Lenore
Lenore is finally done being a mom and now this truly special dog is waiting to find a new family. She loves people and wants nothing more than to hang with them. She has done a great job wrangling and raising her 9 babies. She is well mannered and happy-go-lucky. She might need a bit of basic obedience training but does pretty well with leash walking. We do think she would be okay with a nice male dog. Kids should be fine, too. We don't know about cats.

12. Claudette
Adult (2 years) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier (short coat)

Claudette arrived at MCHS on 10/23/2026 from the city pound, and she has quite the story. Two weeks before she came to us, she was found tied to the fence next to the dumpster between our shelter and the city pound. As we expected, no one claimed her from the pound, so after her stray hold was completed, we took her in for her fresh start. She is a pit bull type dog who seems to be around 2 years old, if not a smidge younger. She has been vet checked, spayed, and microchipped, and her fee is $150.
Read more about Claudette
Claudette is a happy and active gal who will need a bit of basic training and regular exercise. She has a pretty delightful personality. We're thinking she would do fine with kids, but supervision is always necessary as she is strong and very bouncy. She potentially could do well with a respectful male dog, but she doesn't seem to be fan of other females, which is not unusual. No smaller animals would probably be best.

13. Ralph
Adult (1 year 3 months) · Male · Shepherd / Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat)

Ralph came to the shelter as an owner surrender on 10/22/2026. His owners had to move into a rental that did not allow pets. Ralph is a big boy who weighs around 70 pounds and only turned a year old in July. He has the coloring of a red heeler (cattle dog) but otherwise reminds us of shepherd breeds, like German or Anatolian. There are probably some other breeds in there, too. He is tentatively scheduled to be vet checked and neutered on November 13th, and his fee is $150.
Read more about Ralph
Ralph is a very sensitive, loving dog. He needs a home that is able to provide him with the exercise he needs. He has had some basic training and is intelligent and ready for more. Ralph has done well with kids and has been okay with other dogs. He has never been around cats. He would be a great companion for someone who is active and looking for a true partner.

14. Wrangler
Adult (3 years 4 months) · Male · Hound / Mountain Cur / Mixed (short coat)

Wrangler arrived from the city pound on 10/13/2026 when his legal stray hold was finished. Going by the way he looks and sounds, he appears to be a mix of hound breeds. There could be some mountain cur, some beagle, or some catahoula in there. He is a medium-sized boy and we're guessing he's 3 to 4 years old. He has been vet checked, neutered, and microchipped, and his fee is $150.
Read more about Wrangler
Wrangler is an active, bouncy, and talkative dog who does like to make his opinion known. He has an enthusiastic zest for life. He will require regular exercise and might need a bit of basic obedience training. He is definitely a fun-loving guy who doesn't seem like he'd have a problem with other playful dogs. Cats are probably a no. Kids over 5 would be best. Not a dog for apartment living.

15. Paisley
Adult (7 years) · Female · Cocker Spaniel (medium coat)

Paisley is a purebred cocker spaniel who came to MCHS as an owner surrender on 10/8/2026 due to rental restrictions. She is a calm and rather stocky mature lady who is around 7 years old. She's a little unsure of things at the shelter right now, but that's not unusual. She has been vet checked, spayed, and microchipped, and her fee is $150.
Read more about Paisley
We're hoping to find Paisley a home that has some experience with cocker spaniels, as they can be rather high maintenance dogs. She would especially love a somewhat calm home in which she won't be left alone a lot. She will require some regular grooming to keep her coat tangle free, with extra attention on her beautiful ears and fluffy feet. She has done okay with male dogs and older kids. She has never been around cats.

17. Katatin
Adult (7 years 1 month) · Male · Chihuahua (short coat)

Katatin (pronounced "cat-uh-teen") is an approximately 7 year old chihuahua who came to the shelter as an owner surrender on 9/18/2026. He had been part of the same family for his whole life, but he had to be surrendered because his owner was moving to a place that did not allow pets. He can be a little bit shy at first but warms up quickly and loves attention and cuddling. Just let him set the pace. He doesn't like to be rushed. He has been fully vetted, including his neuter, vaccinations, microchip, and some dental work, and his fee is $150.
Read more about Katatin
Katatin is a wonderfully spicy little dude. He has the typical chihuahua "tough guy" attitude, especially with larger dogs. He definitely would like to be the king of his castle so a home with no other pets is his demand. He does bond very quickly and lovingly to his person and would prefer an adult only home (teens are fine). He likes short walks and loves to burrow under blankets. He keeps us all in line at the shelter!

18. Zara
Adult (6 years) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat)

Zara came to the shelter from the city pound on 9/7/2026, after spending over 4 weeks there and more than fulfilling her legal stray hold. She is large and muscular and looks to be mostly a pit bull type dog, estimated at around 6 years old. She has been vet checked, spayed, and microchipped, and her fee is $150. She had to have a long line of mammary tumors surgically removed in late October 2026, and there were no signs of cancer found after this fairly extensive procedure. She is completely healthy and ready for a new home!
Read more about Zara
Zara is an absolute sweetheart who has won over our volunteers and the staff at the vet's office. She does seem to have had some basic training. She seems like she would do well with children and male dogs but we're thinking no smaller animals, like cats, would be best for her. She will need some regular exercise and enjoys a good cuddle, too. She would make a lovely companion!

19. Caesar
Senior (9 years 1 month) · Male · German Shepherd Dog (short coat)

Caesar, then about 3 years old, was originally adopted from our shelter in March 2020, not too long after his arrival, and he lived a happy life with his people for over 6 years. Sadly, his life changed drastically when both of his owners passed away over the course of a couple of years. In September 2026, family members had to make the truly tough decision to return Caesar to the shelter. We would like to see him back in a home as soon as possible. He has been updated on all vet work, thoroughly examined, and microchipped, and his fee is $125. He is in great health and it's hard to believe he is around 9 years old!
Read more about Caesar
Caesar appears to be a white German shepherd, if not a mix, and he looks great for an older dog. He's a sensitive, intelligent, and loving gentleman who has had some basic training. He's still pretty athletic and has been known to jump fences so a secure environment is important. He's well mannered and has done well around other calmer dogs and older kids. Cats? We're not really sure. He will also need some regular exercise, followed by some couch time. He would love a home in which someone is home most of the time. Help us find the perfect retirement home for this handsome and wonderful dog!

22. Nala
Adult (1 year 8 months) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Husky / Mixed (short coat)

Nala was originally adopted from us at 9 weeks of age back in February 2025. She was part of a litter of 8 and the mother dog was a tan husky-type mix with blue eyes. She was returned to the shelter on 8/28/2026 after 18 months in her home as her family's life became busier and they realized they didn't have enough time to devote to her. Nala looks to be a mix of pit bull, husky, and shepherd. She's a fit young dog who will be 2 years old in December and is between medium and large in size. Nala has been fully vetted, microchipped, and her fee is $150.

Nala is a very strong and active dog. She will require a lot of regular exercise and would make a great walking/running partner. She has had some basic training but would love more. She's a loving dog who did live with kids and has done well with other dogs. Cats are most likely a no as she does tend to chase them. She would make a great addition to an active family.

23. Ahri
Adult (8 years 2 months) · Female · German Shepherd Dog / Collie / Mixed (medium coat)

Ahri came to the shelter on 8/7/2026 as an owner surrender. Her owners' lives underwent some big changes, and they could no longer give her the time and attention she deserves. She is a large and mature dog who is around 8 years old and looks mostly like a white German shepherd. She also resembles a collie in some ways, and she is very sensitive and intelligent, as both shepherds and collies are. Her coat is thick, dense, and fairly long, and she has been bathed and brushed out by our volunteers. Ahri has now been vet checked and updated on bloodwork and vaccinations. She was previously spayed and microchipped and her fee is $125.
Read more about Ahri
We had to work with Ahri for several weeks after her arrival as she slowly started to adjust to the shelter. Her whole world was upended so it was understandable. She would do best in an experienced home with a securely fenced yard. Ahri will not be the type to jump into someone's lap right away, for sure, but with time and a lot of patience, she'll become a person's most loyal friend. She will shed and require plenty of brushing to prevent her coat from matting. She has had basic training and has done okay with male dogs of similar size. She has done okay with kids, too, but we do not know about cats.

Adopting a dog in Floyd County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
