Meet Smokie!!

Smokie is a loving pup who enjoys giving kisses and being close to those he cares about. He is friendly with children and does well around other dogs. He is currently being introduced to cats and is making progress, although he can sometimes be a little enthusiastic and may want to chase them during play.

4. Jack
10 Years 8 Months · Male · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed · 49 mi from Rome

Meet Jack!
This handsome 10-year-old Heeler mix came to Safe Haven as an owner surrender through no fault of his own, and he arrived with his best friend and brother, Hunter. These two have been together their entire lives, with Jack being by Hunter’s side since Hunter was just a puppy. They share an incredibly special bond and truly are best friends, which is why our ideal home for Jack and Hunter would be one where they can stay together.
Read more about Jack
At 10 years old, Jack is entering his senior years, and having his lifelong companion by his side could make this big transition a little easier. We would love to see these boys find a family who will welcome them both and let them enjoy their next chapter together. That said, we understand that finding the perfect home for two dogs can be challenging, so if two separate, equally wonderful families come forward who are the right fit for each dog, we are open to considering separate adoptions. Our priority is making sure both Jack and Hunter find loving, committed forever homes where they can feel safe, loved, and cherished. Jack has spent his whole life with his best friend—now he’s hoping they can spend their golden years together, too.

That said, we also understand that finding the perfect home for two dogs at once can be more challenging. If two separate, equally wonderful families come forward who are a great fit for each dog, we are open to considering separate adoptions. Our priority is making sure Hunter and Jack each find loving, committed forever homes where they can thrive. Hunter is ready for his next chapter, and we would love nothing more than for that chapter to include his best buddy Jack!

Young (6 months) · Female · Unknown breed · 50 mi from Rome

Kahlo is a sweet, playful little girl who is officially ready to find her forever home!
Kahlo’s story almost had a very different ending. She and her siblings found themselves in an overcrowded shelter down south where they were at serious risk simply because there wasn’t enough space. Thankfully, we were able to rescue them in time — and now Kahlo is safe, loved, and thriving in foster care. But now she’s ready for the next chapter: finding a family of her very own so her foster can open their home to save even more dogs in need.

Kahlo is your typical puppy — curious, silly, energetic, and still working on all the important “puppy things” as she grows. She’s learning more every day and will need a family committed to helping her continue building confidence and manners as she matures.
She’s currently living in a foster home with cats and she also loves other dogs!
