2. Roxie
Adult (3 years) · Female · Belgian Shepherd Malinois / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed

ROXIE was 'found' on the side of the road in KCMO, then abandoned at a local vet with injuries consistent with being thrown from a moving car. She transferred to MOGS after completing a mandatory stray hold, and her world has been looking up since! MEDICALRoxie is up-to-date on vaccines, has an active rabies tag, is microchipped and has been spayed. Roxie suffered fractured teeth during whatever incident caused her injuries, and will be having those extracted in the next few days. Roxie is also Heartworm POSITIVE, and will begin treatment under MOGS' supervision, as soon as she is recovered from her dental surgery.

ROXIE'S ADOPTION FEE: $350 This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. 5. Hudson
Young · Male · Terrier / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat)

Please visit our web site at https://tarasdream.org/adopt to fill out an adoption application for this pet and for more info about our adoption process.
Meet Hudson!
Hudson is a 2-year-old with a big heart, short little legs, and a whole lot of potential. This adorable low rider may look like a big dog at first glance, but his stubby legs make him extra cute—and he’s the perfect size for being your constant companion.
Read more about Hudson
Hudson hasn’t had many good experiences with people, so he’s understandably shy and unsure when it comes to humans. But he’s learning that people can be kind, patient, and trustworthy, especially with the help of his friendly, confident dog friends. Having other dogs around has helped Hudson come out of his shell and feel a little braver about exploring the world.
As he becomes more comfortable, we’re already seeing glimpses of the sweet and affectionate dog hiding underneath that shy exterior. Hudson is learning to enjoy spending time with people, and it’s clear that there’s so much love waiting to come out once he feels safe.
Hudson would do best in a home with another friendly, confident dog who can help show him the ropes. He’ll also need a patient family who understands that trust takes time and is willing to let Hudson move at his own pace. He may not be the dog who runs up to greet you on day one—but give him some time, TLC, and a safe place to land, and you may just discover an incredibly sweet companion.
Hudson doesn’t need someone to “fix” him. He just needs someone willing to believe in him, give him time, and show him that life with people can be pretty wonderful. And once he learns that, we think this little low rider is going to be one very special best friend.

8. Kate CL
Adult · Female · Bluetick Coonhound (short coat)

Meet Kate!
Kate is a beautiful 6 year old Bluetick Coonhound who is learning that life can be soft, safe, and full of love.
Before coming into rescue, Kate lived on a farm with seven other hounds, all tethered outside. One by one, the other dogs made it off the property, and Kate was the very last one left behind. Now its finally her turn to discover what it means to be a spoiled house dog.
And honestly? Shes taking to the delicate life pretty well.
Read more about Kate CL
Kate is incredibly sweet, silly, and absolutely loves people. One of the cutest things about her is that she SMILES! When shes happy or excited, shell flash you the goofiest little hound smile, and it is impossible not to smile right back.
Shes treat motivated and eager to please, which has made helping her adjust to indoor life so much fun. She is kennel trained, rides great in the car, and does well with other dogs.
Kate would do best in a home without cats, as she is definitely still a hound at heart and is not cat friendly.
After spending so many years living outside on a tether, Kate deserves the good stuff now. A comfy bed. Car rides. Treats. Adventures. People who adore her. Maybe even her own spot on the couch.
She doesnt need anything fancy. She just needs someone willing to show her how good the rest of her life can be.
Kate is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
She waited until the very end to get her chance. Now wed love to make sure she never has to wait for a family again.

12. Lincoln
Young · Male · Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

DOB: 3/7/2026 Current Weight(as of 8/12/26): 29 Lbs.
Adoption Fee: $275 includes 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness.
Meet Lincoln, an almost 6-month-old Shepherd/Husky/Lab mix who weighed right around 29 pounds at his neuter surgery on August 12. We can't guarantee his adult size, but we're expecting Lincoln to grow into a large dog.
Lincoln and his siblings came to Furry Kids when their owner was no longer able to care for them. We were also able to spay their momma, making sure there won't be any more accidental puppies.
Lincoln can be a little shy, especially when he's surrounded by his siblings, but get this sweet boy alone for some one-on-one attention and you get to see a completely different side of him.
Read more about Lincoln
He absolutely melts when someone takes the time to love on him. Like all of these puppies, Lincoln truly craves human interaction and touch.
He also LOVES toys and playing with his siblings and the other Furry Kids in his foster home. And then there's the kiddie pool! Lincoln and his siblings think splashing around in the water is about as much fun as a puppy can have. They love it so much their foster family has to limit their pool time so they don't spend the entire day soaking wet!
Lincoln plays very well with the other dogs in his foster home. We haven't seen aggression or dominant behavior from these puppies. They even eat just a couple of feet apart without fighting over their food.
A confident canine companion could be especially beneficial for Lincoln and may help him continue building his confidence. He could also do well with a very active, interactive family willing to give him plenty of attention, socialization and new experiences.
Lincoln is still very much a puppy, so his new family will need to continue working on training and house manners as he grows. A securely fenced yard would be best, and please no apartments.
Lincoln may not always be the first puppy demanding your attention, but give him a little individual time and you'll discover what a loving, sweet boy is waiting underneath that shy exterior.
Puppies are NOT housebroken and should not be expected to wait more than 1 hour for each month of age to go out to potty. Please make sure that you have a “potty plan” in place if considering adoption.

DOB: 3/7/2026 Current Weight(as of 8/12/26): 29 Lbs
Adoption Fee: $275 includes 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness.
Meet Lolly, an almost 6-month-old Shepherd/Husky/Lab mix who was right around 29 pounds at her spay surgery on August 12. We can't say for certain how big she will be as an adult, but we're expecting Lolly to grow into a large dog.
Lolly and her siblings came to Furry Kids when their owner was no longer able to care for them. We were also able to spay their momma, so there won't be any more accidental puppies!
Of the "L" puppies, Lolly is the most outgoing and confident.
Read more about Lolly
This sweet girl absolutely craves human interaction and touch. She doesn't just want to be in the same room with her people—she wants to be right there with you! Don't be surprised to find her standing between your legs or leaning her whole body against you. Lolly is definitely a girl who wants to feel close to her humans.
Like her siblings, Lolly LOVES toys and has discovered that kiddie pools are one of the greatest inventions ever! The puppies love splashing and playing in them so much that their foster family actually has to limit pool time, otherwise they'd happily stay wet all day!
Lolly is doing wonderfully with the other Furry Kids in her foster home. These puppies play well with other dogs, and we have not seen aggression or dominant behavior from them. They can even eat just a couple of feet apart without squabbling over their food.
Lolly may really enjoy having another confident dog in her new home, but an active, interactive family that includes her in their daily life could also be a great fit. She is still a young puppy and will need a family committed to continuing her training, socialization and house manners as she grows.
Because she's going to be a bigger, active girl, a securely fenced yard would be best for Lolly. Please no apartments.
If you're looking for an affectionate, playful pup who will happily lean against you one minute and splash in her pool the next, Lolly might be your girl!

15. Ruby CL
Young · Female · Boxer / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat)

Ruby is a loving, happy-go-lucky girl who enjoys being with her people and soaking up belly rubs. She has a playful spirit, likes going on walks, and is always ready for an adventure. She is curious, affectionate, and enjoys being part of whatever is going on around her. Ruby has done well with other dogs and has not shown aggression toward them. She can get excited when greeting new people and may jump up to say hello, but she responds well to kindness and consistency. She has barked at cats, so we are unsure if she would do well in a home with them. Ruby would thrive with a family that will give her plenty of love, patience, and daily activity. She has a wonderful personality and is ready to become a loyal companion. Ruby is around 2 years old and weighs about 45lbs.

16. Woody
Senior · Male · Siberian Husky / Mixed (medium coat)

Woody is 11+ years old who has had bilateral eye removal surgery. He has healed up very well.
He keeps a tidy kennel, and has been a very good boy to keep potties outside, and not inside. He has been accident free.
Outdoors he is currently guided with a harness and leash while he continues to build confidence. He can be a little hesitant when first stepping onto hard surfaces, but once he reaches the yard, he navigates his surroundings surprisingly well and explores with increasing confidence.
As he continues to learn his environment, we expect his comfort level to keep improving.
He is shy to human touch but accepts some head pats, and body rubs.
Read more about Woody
He makes some grumbles here and there about coming out of kennel but it has not been to lash out. Just a little verbal protest about being woken up.
Woody may not see the world with his eyes anymore, but he experiences it through his nose, his ears, and his heart. His blindness doesn’t define him. It simply means he explores life a little differently. With a patient family willing to guide him as he gains confidence, Woody has all the makings of a wonderful companion.
Easy to be around other dogs and cats.
He is a sweet senior who deserves a soft place to land, and we’re excited to watch him continue to thrive.

Meet Pickles – A One-of-a-Kind Beauty!
Looking for a best friend who is equal parts playful, loving, and gorgeous? Meet Pickles! This sweet girl is approximately 10 months old and is ready to find the forever family she's been waiting for.
Read more about Pickles
We believe Pickles is a Labrador Retriever/Australian Shepherd mix, although she could also have a little Husky in her family tree. Since she came to us from a small rural Missouri shelter, we can't be certain of her breed or exactly how big she'll be when she's fully grown. Our best guess is that she'll mature into a medium to medium-large sized dog—a wonderful size for just about any family!
Whatever her breed mix may be, one thing is certain—she is absolutely stunning! Her beautiful mismatched eyes, one warm brown and one brilliant blue, are sure to steal your heart.
But Pickles is so much more than a pretty face. She has a wonderfully sweet personality and genuinely loves people. Whether she's making new friends or soaking up attention from her favorite humans, her happy, affectionate nature shines through. She also loves playing with the other dogs and would enjoy having a canine companion, though she'd be just as happy being the center of your world.
Like any growing puppy, Pickles has plenty of playful energy and would love a securely fenced yard where she can safely run, play, and explore. She's still working on her house training and will need a family willing to continue teaching her with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement.
If you're looking for a loyal companion with a heart of gold, a playful spirit, and unforgettable eyes, Pickles just might be the perfect addition to your family. Come meet this beautiful girl—you'll fall in love with those striking eyes and her sweet personality the moment you meet her!
Puppies are NOT housebroken and should not be expected to wait more than 1 hour for each month of age to go out to potty. Please make sure that you have a “potty plan” in place if considering adoption.

Mango gets along with the resident dogs and cats in her foster home and that makes her an easy intro into many homes. She is truly an all-around great dog. Since many folks are interested in back stories, Mango came to TARA after being found as a stray at an area shelter. Staff realized that she’d stayed there previously and, upon contacting the adopter, learned that she’d been given away. TARA stepped in to find her forever family. With regard to her unique eye, Mango has scar tissue in anterior chamber behind the cornea of her right eye, likely due to an old trauma. At this time there is no recommended treatment. Her vision is impaired and could be blind in that eye. Her family would just need to be aware that she needs to be set up for success with her limited sight and know she is a bit head shy.
Mango is well behaved in the house and sleeps in a kennel through the night without a peep. She walks well on a leash but may pull if she sees a squirrel or another dog. She would love a fenced yard to explore and another playful dog in the home, but as easy going Mango truly is, these are just nice to haves. She will fit in anywhere and be your best friend! Please contact TARA today if you would like to meet Mango.

19. Lexi
Adult (4 years 2 months) · Female · German Shepherd Dog

LEXI was transferred to MOGS after being found on the property of a local business, so a stray hold and owner search could be conducted, and to get her the immediate medical help that she needed. At the time of transfer, Lexi was underweight, covered in fleas, missing large amounts of fur, was weak in the back legs from malnutrition, had double ear infections, and was covered in sores and a body-wide skin infection
Temperament/Behavior
Lexi is a sweet Shepherd who is discovering what it means to be a beloved family member after being found abandoned as a stray. She appears to have spent much of her previous life as an outside-only dog, so she is learning the routines, comforts, and joys of indoor family life.
She is a quiet girl with very little barking and has not demonstrated separation anxiety in her foster home. Lexi goes willingly into her kennel and is comfortable using it during the day for quiet, uninterrupted rest time.
She is currently recovering from her recent spay and skin tag removal procedures and has had no complications. As she continues to heal and settle into her new routine, more of her personality is emerging every day.
Training
Lexi is still learning the basics and would benefit from a patient family who will continue building her confidence and skills. She needs additional work with leash walking and is continuing to learn basic commands such as sit, down, and come.
She is eager to experience life with her people, and consistent routines, positive reinforcement, and plenty of encouragement will help her continue to blossom.
People
Lexi can be a little cautious around men and has shown some cowering behavior, so she will benefit from gentle, positive interactions that allow her to build trust at her own pace.
She is good with children and has done well at MOGS meet-and-greets, where she has enjoyed attention, pets, and interaction with people. She also interacts well with other Shepherds who are looking for their forever homes.
Lexi is happiest when she can be near her people and will happily follow you throughout the house—a trait that is very typical of this loyal and people-oriented breed.
Medical
Lexi is up-to-date on vaccines, has a current Rabies tag, is microchipped, and has been spayed. Other than recovering from her recent spay and skin tag removal incisions, Lexi has no known medical issues at this time. Her recovery has been uncomplicated.
Fun Facts
Lexi is learning what family life is all about—and she is loving it! She is discovering the comfort of regular routines, positive attention, and having people she can count on.
One of Lexi's favorite things is carrying a “stuffy” around. She is especially proud to share it with you, too!
Her personality is becoming more evident every day as she gains confidence and learns that she is safe. Whether she's following her people from room to room, enjoying some well-earned pets, or proudly carrying her favorite stuffy, Lexi is showing us what a wonderful companion she can become.
She may be a girl who is just beginning her journey, but with patience, consistency, and love, Lexi is ready to discover just how wonderful being part of a family can be.

LEXI'S ADOPTION FEE: $350 This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots,

21. Jemma
Adult · Female · Chihuahua / Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Approx. DOB: 5/15/23 Approx. Weight: 15.5 Lbs
Adoption Fee: $275 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness!
Meet Jemma – A Little Dog with a Big Comeback Story!
At approximately 3 years old and weighing just 12 pounds, Jemma is the perfect little companion with a heart that's learning to trust again. We believe she's a Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix, though that's just our best guess.
Jemma came to us from a small rural Missouri shelter, and when she first arrived in her foster home, it was clear life had been overwhelming for her. She was so frightened that even gentle pets on her head made her flinch.
Read more about Jemma
But thanks to patience, love, and a safe place to land, Jemma has blossomed into an entirely different dog.
Today, she's affectionate, playful, and loves being with her people. She's fully housebroken, crate trained, and leash trained, making her an easy companion to have around the house. Jemma already knows sit and stay, and she's almost mastered shake—she's a smart little girl who truly enjoys learning and wants to please.
Jemma gets along wonderfully with the dogs in her foster home as well as visiting canine friends. She enjoys playing and would likely do well with another friendly dog who can continue to build her confidence.
Because of her past, Jemma is still cautious around new people. She can become nervous when meeting strangers and may bark or appear unsure until she realizes she's safe. Her forever family will need to understand that trust isn't given immediately—it is earned. Once Jemma knows you're one of her people, she is incredibly loyal, loving, and devoted.
Jemma has already come so far, and we know her best days are still ahead of her. She's looking for a patient family willing to give her the time she needs to settle in and let her amazing personality continue to shine. Please no children under the age of 13.
If you're the kind of person who believes the most rewarding relationships are built on patience, kindness, and trust, Jemma is waiting to show you just how special she truly is. Could you be the one she's been waiting for?
I have been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible.

23. Daisy May
Young · Female · Australian Shepherd / Shepherd / Mixed (short coat)

Approx. DOB: 4/16/25 Approx. Weight: 39 Lbs
Adoption Fee: $250 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness!
Meet Daisy May!
Daisy May is a beautiful, medium-sized girl with a sweet personality and a whole lot of love to give! She definitely seems to have inherited one of those classic Aussie traits — herding her Furry friends around the yard when they're playing! Daisy absolutely loves other dogs and has never shown any signs of dominance toward them. She is truly a lover of all her Furry friends!
Daisy can be a little shy and timid when meeting new people. It takes her a bit of time to warm up, but trust us, she's worth the extra effort! Once she gets comfortable with you, you'll have a loyal best friend by your side.

Having another dog in the family would be a wonderful bonus for Daisy and would help her feel more confident as she settles into her new home.
With her friendly, gentle nature toward other dogs, Daisy would likely be a wonderful addition to a family that enjoys trips to the dog park. She'll be excited to make plenty of new Furry friends!
Daisy is crate trained, housebroken, and walks nicely on a leash when wearing her harness. She is an incredibly gentle girl with a heart full of love.
Daisy May is ready to find her forever family. She's going to make some very lucky family an absolutely fantastic companion! ❤️
Daisy May came to us with Heartworms. She has had heartworm treatment.

24. Snoopy
Young · Male · Terrier / Toy Fox Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Approx. DOB: 8/23/25 Approx Weight: 16 Lbs
Adoption Fee: $250 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness!
Meet Snoopy — a happy, affectionate little guy with endless puppy energy and a heart full of love! We believe Snoopy is a Jack Russell Terrier mix, and true to the breed, he is smart, active, athletic, and always ready for fun. His favorite things include giving kisses, playing with other dogs, and zooming around the yard at top speed!
Snoopy is still very much a puppy and is learning his manners and basic routines. He understands commands Sit, Stay, Lay Down, Come, No, Let's potty, Let's ride, and Let's eat!
He would thrive with an active family that can continue his training and give him plenty of exercise, playtime, and mental stimulation.
Read more about Snoopy
A home with another playful dog would be a huge plus since he loves canine companionship and learns well from other dogs.
Because Snoopy is incredibly fast and can jump surprisingly high, a secure fenced yard is a must for this adventurous boy. He loves to run and explore, and he’ll need a family committed to keeping him safe and active.
Snoopy gets along great with other dogs, but he is very interested in chasing cats, so a cat-free home — or one with a very dog-savvy, confident cat — would likely be the best fit.
Snoopy goes through the doggie door to potty.
He is a snuggle bug. He will snuggle up with you for a nap and loves to sleep under the covers with you at bedtime. He sleeps all night!
If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate, high-energy companion who will keep you laughing and shower you with kisses, Snoopy may be your perfect match!
I have been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, wormed and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible.

Adopting a dog in Johnson County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
