2. Woody
Senior · Male · Siberian Husky / Mixed (medium coat) · 39 mi from Lecompton

Woody is 11+ years old who has had bilateral eye removal surgery. He has healed up very well.
He keeps a tidy kennel, and has been a very good boy to keep potties outside, and not inside. He has been accident free.
Outdoors he is currently guided with a harness and leash while he continues to build confidence. He can be a little hesitant when first stepping onto hard surfaces, but once he reaches the yard, he navigates his surroundings surprisingly well and explores with increasing confidence.
As he continues to learn his environment, we expect his comfort level to keep improving.
He is shy to human touch but accepts some head pats, and body rubs.
Read more about Woody
He makes some grumbles here and there about coming out of kennel but it has not been to lash out. Just a little verbal protest about being woken up.
Woody may not see the world with his eyes anymore, but he experiences it through his nose, his ears, and his heart. His blindness doesn’t define him. It simply means he explores life a little differently. With a patient family willing to guide him as he gains confidence, Woody has all the makings of a wonderful companion.
Easy to be around other dogs and cats.
He is a sweet senior who deserves a soft place to land, and we’re excited to watch him continue to thrive.

5. Lexi
Adult (4 years 2 months) · Female · German Shepherd Dog · 44 mi from Lecompton

LEXI was transferred to MOGS after being found on the property of a local business, so a stray hold and owner search could be conducted, and to get her the immediate medical help that she needed. At the time of transfer, Lexi was underweight, covered in fleas, missing large amounts of fur, was weak in the back legs from malnutrition, had double ear infections, and was covered in sores and a body-wide skin infection
Temperament/Behavior
Lexi is a sweet Shepherd who is discovering what it means to be a beloved family member after being found abandoned as a stray. She appears to have spent much of her previous life as an outside-only dog, so she is learning the routines, comforts, and joys of indoor family life.
She is a quiet girl with very little barking and has not demonstrated separation anxiety in her foster home. Lexi goes willingly into her kennel and is comfortable using it during the day for quiet, uninterrupted rest time.
She is currently recovering from her recent spay and skin tag removal procedures and has had no complications. As she continues to heal and settle into her new routine, more of her personality is emerging every day.
Training
Lexi is still learning the basics and would benefit from a patient family who will continue building her confidence and skills. She needs additional work with leash walking and is continuing to learn basic commands such as sit, down, and come.
She is eager to experience life with her people, and consistent routines, positive reinforcement, and plenty of encouragement will help her continue to blossom.
People
Lexi can be a little cautious around men and has shown some cowering behavior, so she will benefit from gentle, positive interactions that allow her to build trust at her own pace.
She is good with children and has done well at MOGS meet-and-greets, where she has enjoyed attention, pets, and interaction with people. She also interacts well with other Shepherds who are looking for their forever homes.
Lexi is happiest when she can be near her people and will happily follow you throughout the house—a trait that is very typical of this loyal and people-oriented breed.
Medical
Lexi is up-to-date on vaccines, has a current Rabies tag, is microchipped, and has been spayed. Other than recovering from her recent spay and skin tag removal incisions, Lexi has no known medical issues at this time. Her recovery has been uncomplicated.
Fun Facts
Lexi is learning what family life is all about—and she is loving it! She is discovering the comfort of regular routines, positive attention, and having people she can count on.
One of Lexi's favorite things is carrying a “stuffy” around. She is especially proud to share it with you, too!
Her personality is becoming more evident every day as she gains confidence and learns that she is safe. Whether she's following her people from room to room, enjoying some well-earned pets, or proudly carrying her favorite stuffy, Lexi is showing us what a wonderful companion she can become.
She may be a girl who is just beginning her journey, but with patience, consistency, and love, Lexi is ready to discover just how wonderful being part of a family can be.

Adopting a dog in Lecompton
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
