ROXIE was 'found' on the side of the road in KCMO, then abandoned at a local vet with injuries consistent with being thrown from a moving car. She transferred to MOGS after completing a mandatory stray hold, and her world has been looking up since! MEDICALRoxie is up-to-date on vaccines, has an active rabies tag, is microchipped and has been spayed. Roxie suffered fractured teeth during whatever incident caused her injuries, and will be having those extracted in the next few days. 3. Lincoln

Young · Male · Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 22 mi from Lenexa

DOB: 3/7/2026 Current Weight(as of 8/12/26): 29 Lbs.
Adoption Fee: $275 includes 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness.
Meet Lincoln, an almost 6-month-old Shepherd/Husky/Lab mix who weighed right around 29 pounds at his neuter surgery on August 12. We can't guarantee his adult size, but we're expecting Lincoln to grow into a large dog.
Lincoln and his siblings came to Furry Kids when their owner was no longer able to care for them. We were also able to spay their momma, making sure there won't be any more accidental puppies.
Lincoln can be a little shy, especially when he's surrounded by his siblings, but get this sweet boy alone for some one-on-one attention and you get to see a completely different side of him.

Read more about Lincoln

He absolutely melts when someone takes the time to love on him. Like all of these puppies, Lincoln truly craves human interaction and touch.
He also LOVES toys and playing with his siblings and the other Furry Kids in his foster home. And then there's the kiddie pool! Lincoln and his siblings think splashing around in the water is about as much fun as a puppy can have. They love it so much their foster family has to limit their pool time so they don't spend the entire day soaking wet!
Lincoln plays very well with the other dogs in his foster home. We haven't seen aggression or dominant behavior from these puppies. They even eat just a couple of feet apart without fighting over their food.
A confident canine companion could be especially beneficial for Lincoln and may help him continue building his confidence. He could also do well with a very active, interactive family willing to give him plenty of attention, socialization and new experiences.
Lincoln is still very much a puppy, so his new family will need to continue working on training and house manners as he grows. A securely fenced yard would be best, and please no apartments.
Lincoln may not always be the first puppy demanding your attention, but give him a little individual time and you'll discover what a loving, sweet boy is waiting underneath that shy exterior.
Puppies are NOT housebroken and should not be expected to wait more than 1 hour for each month of age to go out to potty. Please make sure that you have a “potty plan” in place if considering adoption.
All of our puppies have been spay/neuter, wormed, microchipped, and given age appropriate vaccinations. If you are interested in meeting/adopting one of them just fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch.

4. Lolly

Young · Female · Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 22 mi from Lenexa

DOB: 3/7/2026 Current Weight(as of 8/12/26): 29 Lbs
Adoption Fee: $275 includes 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness.
Meet Lolly, an almost 6-month-old Shepherd/Husky/Lab mix who was right around 29 pounds at her spay surgery on August 12. We can't say for certain how big she will be as an adult, but we're expecting Lolly to grow into a large dog.
Lolly and her siblings came to Furry Kids when their owner was no longer able to care for them. We were also able to spay their momma, so there won't be any more accidental puppies!
Of the "L" puppies, Lolly is the most outgoing and confident.

Read more about Lolly

This sweet girl absolutely craves human interaction and touch. She doesn't just want to be in the same room with her people—she wants to be right there with you! Don't be surprised to find her standing between your legs or leaning her whole body against you. Lolly is definitely a girl who wants to feel close to her humans.
Like her siblings, Lolly LOVES toys and has discovered that kiddie pools are one of the greatest inventions ever! The puppies love splashing and playing in them so much that their foster family actually has to limit pool time, otherwise they'd happily stay wet all day!
Lolly is doing wonderfully with the other Furry Kids in her foster home. These puppies play well with other dogs, and we have not seen aggression or dominant behavior from them. They can even eat just a couple of feet apart without squabbling over their food.
Lolly may really enjoy having another confident dog in her new home, but an active, interactive family that includes her in their daily life could also be a great fit. She is still a young puppy and will need a family committed to continuing her training, socialization and house manners as she grows.
Because she's going to be a bigger, active girl, a securely fenced yard would be best for Lolly. Please no apartments.
If you're looking for an affectionate, playful pup who will happily lean against you one minute and splash in her pool the next, Lolly might be your girl!
Puppies are NOT housebroken and should not be expected to wait more than 1 hour for each month of age to go out to potty. Please make sure that you have a “potty plan” in place if considering adoption.

6. Pickles

Young · Female · Labrador Retriever / Australian Shepherd / Mixed (short coat) · 22 mi from Lenexa

DOB: 10/16/25 Current Weight(as of 6/16/26): 39 Lbs
Adoption Fee: $275 includes 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness.

Meet Pickles – A One-of-a-Kind Beauty!

Looking for a best friend who is equal parts playful, loving, and gorgeous? Meet Pickles! This sweet girl is approximately 10 months old and is ready to find the forever family she's been waiting for.

Read more about Pickles

We believe Pickles is a Labrador Retriever/Australian Shepherd mix, although she could also have a little Husky in her family tree. Since she came to us from a small rural Missouri shelter, we can't be certain of her breed or exactly how big she'll be when she's fully grown. Our best guess is that she'll mature into a medium to medium-large sized dog—a wonderful size for just about any family!

Whatever her breed mix may be, one thing is certain—she is absolutely stunning! Her beautiful mismatched eyes, one warm brown and one brilliant blue, are sure to steal your heart.

But Pickles is so much more than a pretty face. She has a wonderfully sweet personality and genuinely loves people. Whether she's making new friends or soaking up attention from her favorite humans, her happy, affectionate nature shines through. She also loves playing with the other dogs and would enjoy having a canine companion, though she'd be just as happy being the center of your world.

Like any growing puppy, Pickles has plenty of playful energy and would love a securely fenced yard where she can safely run, play, and explore. She's still working on her house training and will need a family willing to continue teaching her with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement.

If you're looking for a loyal companion with a heart of gold, a playful spirit, and unforgettable eyes, Pickles just might be the perfect addition to your family. Come meet this beautiful girl—you'll fall in love with those striking eyes and her sweet personality the moment you meet her!
Puppies are NOT housebroken and should not be expected to wait more than 1 hour for each month of age to go out to potty. Please make sure that you have a “potty plan” in place if considering adoption.

7. Lexi

Adult (4 years 2 months) · Female · German Shepherd Dog · 18 mi from Lenexa

LEXI was transferred to MOGS after being found on the property of a local business, so a stray hold and owner search could be conducted, and to get her the immediate medical help that she needed. At the time of transfer, Lexi was underweight, covered in fleas, missing large amounts of fur, was weak in the back legs from malnutrition, had double ear infections, and was covered in sores and a body-wide skin infection
Temperament/Behavior
Lexi is a sweet Shepherd who is discovering what it means to be a beloved family member after being found abandoned as a stray. She appears to have spent much of her previous life as an outside-only dog, so she is learning the routines, comforts, and joys of indoor family life.
She is a quiet girl with very little barking and has not demonstrated separation anxiety in her foster home. Lexi goes willingly into her kennel and is comfortable using it during the day for quiet, uninterrupted rest time.
She is currently recovering from her recent spay and skin tag removal procedures and has had no complications. As she continues to heal and settle into her new routine, more of her personality is emerging every day.
Training
Lexi is still learning the basics and would benefit from a patient family who will continue building her confidence and skills. She needs additional work with leash walking and is continuing to learn basic commands such as sit, down, and come.
She is eager to experience life with her people, and consistent routines, positive reinforcement, and plenty of encouragement will help her continue to blossom.
People
Lexi can be a little cautious around men and has shown some cowering behavior, so she will benefit from gentle, positive interactions that allow her to build trust at her own pace.
She is good with children and has done well at MOGS meet-and-greets, where she has enjoyed attention, pets, and interaction with people. She also interacts well with other Shepherds who are looking for their forever homes.
Lexi is happiest when she can be near her people and will happily follow you throughout the house—a trait that is very typical of this loyal and people-oriented breed.
Medical
Lexi is up-to-date on vaccines, has a current Rabies tag, is microchipped, and has been spayed. Other than recovering from her recent spay and skin tag removal incisions, Lexi has no known medical issues at this time. Her recovery has been uncomplicated.
Fun Facts
Lexi is learning what family life is all about—and she is loving it! She is discovering the comfort of regular routines, positive attention, and having people she can count on.
One of Lexi's favorite things is carrying a “stuffy” around. She is especially proud to share it with you, too!
Her personality is becoming more evident every day as she gains confidence and learns that she is safe. Whether she's following her people from room to room, enjoying some well-earned pets, or proudly carrying her favorite stuffy, Lexi is showing us what a wonderful companion she can become.
She may be a girl who is just beginning her journey, but with patience, consistency, and love, Lexi is ready to discover just how wonderful being part of a family can be.

Adopting a large dog in Lenexa

Large dogs need room to stretch out and plenty of exercise: at least one good walk a day, and a secure yard is a bonus. Check your lease too, as some landlords limit the size or breed of dog.

Start training from day one. A big dog who walks nicely on a leash and doesn't jump up is a pleasure to live with, and many rescues can recommend a local trainer.
