1. Chewy
8 Years · Male · Terrier / Mixed · 20 mi from Salisbury

Chewy was found as a stray at a local shelter. He is a little shy, likes other dogs and was good with his first cat introduction. He is currently in a volunteer’s heated and air conditioned garage kennel with access to a fenced yard via a dog door and is clean in his kennel. He is learning to walk on a leash and he would do best in a quiet home and would love a buddy. He is very affectionate and loves attention.

6. Oliver
Adult (8 years 6 months) · Male · French Bulldog · 22 mi from Salisbury

Meet Oliver, an 8-year-old deaf French Bulldog with a BIG personality and a heart full of love for his people!
Oliver is an absolute sweetheart with adults and kids alike. He’s affectionate, playful, curious, and happiest when he’s included in whatever his humans are doing. He loves car rides, walks, toys, adventures, and especially the BEACH! He’s equal parts cuddle buddy and entertaining little sidekick, with a personality that makes him impossible not to love.
Being deaf hasn’t slowed Oliver down one bit! He’s smart, food motivated, loves to play, and is learning to communicate through visual cues.

He knows basic cues like sit and down and will benefit from continuing to build his skills with his new family. Like many enthusiastic Frenchies, he can get excited and pull on leash, so a little continued training and consistency will go a long way.
A NOTE ABOUT OTHER DOGS
While Oliver has spent time peacefully around other dogs, he has also had unpredictable fights with dogs within the home. For this reason, we feel he will be happiest and safest as the only dog in his adoptive home. This allows his family to enjoy all the love and personality he has to offer without the stress of potential conflict with another dog.
Oliver also appreciates having his own space when enjoying bones and other special treats.
Oliver is looking for a family to love, adventures to share, and a couch to call his own. He has so much affection to give and would love nothing more than to be someone’s very special boy. If you’re looking for a fun, loving companion with a big personality, Oliver might just steal your heart!

7. Ebenezer
Young (4 years 3 months) · Male · Kai Dog / Australian Shepherd / Mixed · 22 mi from Salisbury

Hi I'm Ebenezer,
I’m an approximately 4-year-old, 40-pound boy, and my rescue friends believe I’m a Kai Ken mix, possibly with some Shepherd mixed in. I’m a handsome guy, but my friends will tell you that what makes me special is my heart—and how far I’ve come. When I first came into rescue, I was completely shut down. My time in the shelter was incredibly traumatic for me, and I also arrived with an injury to my back. I was scared, overwhelmed, and completely unsure of what was happening around me. Everything had changed, and I didn’t know where I was or who I could trust. I didn’t want to leave my kennel.

I didn’t want to explore. I didn’t want to interact with the world around me. I just wanted to feel safe. And even though I was scared and hurting, there was something my foster family noticed right away: I was always incredibly sweet and friendly. I never stopped wanting kindness. I never stopped wanting affection. I just needed time to feel safe enough to accept it. So they gave me time. They let me decompress. They gave me a quiet, predictable routine and allowed me to move at my own pace. They didn’t force me to be brave before I was ready. Instead, they showed me over and over again that I was safe. And slowly, I started to come around. At first, my progress was measured in tiny steps. I became more comfortable in my surroundings. I started venturing out of my safe space. Then I began exploring more of the house. And eventually, I discovered the backyard. Now I RUN around the yard, explore, and actually enjoy myself! I’ve also discovered toys, and I really enjoy collecting them. Plus, I am fully house trained. Even when I’m scared, I don’t have accidents. But one of my biggest breakthroughs has been discovering how much I love affection. These days, I want to be petted whenever I get the chance. I’ll come looking for attention and enjoy being close to my people. After everything I’ve been through, I think I’ve finally figured out something pretty important: I just want to be loved. I’m also an amazing watchdog. I’m naturally alert and observant, and I take my job of keeping an eye on my home very seriously. If something catches my attention, I’ll make sure you know about it! I’m currently fostered with children and small dogs, and I do well with them. Once I know someone and feel comfortable, I can be a very sweet, happy companion. Meeting new people and new dogs is scary for me. I need to figure out that I’m still safe. I’m not the dog who is going to walk up to every stranger or new dog and immediately want to play. It just means I need you to give me the chance. Every day, I come a little farther out of my shell. Every day, I show a little more of my personality. And every day, I’m learning that the world doesn’t have to be such a scary place. My future adopter will need to understand that I’m going to need time to adjust in a new home, just like I did when I first came into rescue. I’ll need patience, consistency, structure, and someone who will allow me to build trust at my own pace. When I learn to trust you, it will mean something. Because you’ll know that I chose you. You’ll get to experience the first time I come to you for affection. The first time I bring you a toy. The first time I run around your backyard without a care in the world. The first time I look at you and realize that you’re my safe person. And eventually, the day I finally know that I’m home. My rescue friends believe that earning my complete trust will be one of the greatest rewards my adopter could ever experience. I think they’re right. I’m not looking for someone to fix me. I’m looking for someone who will understand me, be patient with me, and give me the time I need to become the dog I know I can be. I’ve already come so far. There’s still so much more of me waiting to come out. And if you’re willing to be patient and take that journey with me, I promise it will be worth it. Because underneath the fear is a sweet, affectionate, playful bo

8. Fendi
Adult (7 years 3 months) · Female · English Bulldog / American Bulldog / Mixed · 22 mi from Salisbury

Meet Fendi!
Fendi is a gorgeous 7-year-old, 55-pound Pocket Bully. Despite the name, Pocket Bullies aren’t always “pocket-sized”—they’re known for their stocky, muscular build, affectionate nature, and deep devotion to their families. Fendi is no exception!
One of her favorite things in the world is going for walks—though she prefers to be in charge by carrying her own leash! When she’s not out exploring, you’ll likely find her happily riding shotgun on a car ride or snuggled up beside her favorite person soaking up ear scratches and side rubs.
Fendi has a fun collection of toys that she loves, but don’t be surprised if one of your spare socks mysteriously disappears.

She enjoys carrying them around and using them as comfort items when she’s feeling a little anxious.
Fendi forms deep bonds with her people and is incredibly loyal. Because of that, she can be protective of the people she loves and some of her favorite belongings, including toys, blankets, and pillows. She will thrive with an experienced owner who understands and respects canine body language and is committed to continuing her success.
For Fendi’s happiness and everyone’s safety, she is looking for a home where she can be the only pet and without young children. In the right home, she is an affectionate, devoted companion who will reward her family with endless cuddles, loyalty, and love.
If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who will happily join you on adventures and then curl up beside you at the end of the day, Fendi may be the perfect match!

Typically we intake from high kill shelters/animal control and public surrender. Animals are vetted then transferred to Rescue Partners or directly adopted to the public after spay/neuter application and background check/home check. Our adoption fee ranges from $150-350. Animals are required to be indoor only companion animals, if the adoption fails the animal must be returned to KMR.
Adopting a dog in Salisbury
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
