8 YEARS OF LOVE, ONE BROKEN HEART, AND A WHOLE LOT OF BEAGLE LEFT TO GIVE. MEET TOBY!
Toby wasn't supposed to be looking for a new family at 8 years old.
This sweet Beagle boy had a home. He had a person. He had a life he knew and loved. But sadly, when his beloved owner passed away, Toby's entire world changed overnight.
Now, at 8 years young, Toby is searching for someone to love him through the next chapter of his life.
And trust us, this handsome little guy has SO much love left to give!
A LITTLE ABOUT TOBY!
Age: 8 years young, with plenty of Beagle charm!
Read more about Toby
Dog friendly: Yes! Toby gets along with other dogs and would be happy to have canine companions!
Cat friendly: Absolutely! This sweet boy is good with feline friends, too!
Personality: Toby is an incredibly sweet boy who is understandably feeling a little confused and anxious right now. After losing his person and everything familiar, who could blame him? He just needs a patient, loving family to help him feel safe and secure again.
Fitness goals: Let's just say Toby has been enjoying the good life a LITTLE too much. He's currently sporting some extra Beagle fluff and will need a family committed to helping him shed a few pounds at a safe, healthy pace.
Think leisurely walks, appropriate portions, and a whole lot of encouragement. Toby is officially entering his fitness era!
But here's the thing about Toby.
He doesn't know he's considered a senior.
He doesn't know he's carrying a few extra pounds.
And he certainly doesn't understand why the person he loved isn't coming home.
All he knows is that his world has changed, and he's waiting for someone to make it feel right again.
Toby doesn't need a perfect family. He just needs a family who will love him.
Someone who understands that adjusting takes time. Someone who will celebrate the little victories as his confidence returns. Someone who will give him the security of knowing he's finally home again.
At 8 years old, Toby deserves more than uncertainty. He deserves cozy beds, sniff-filled walks, gentle affection, and a family who will cherish every single day with him.
His first chapter was filled with love. Let's make sure his next chapter is, too.

River has been waiting in rescue for his forever home for far too long, and he is exactly the kind of dog UDR strives to help.

5. Scooby
Adult (5 years) · Male · Doberman Pinscher · 42 mi from Roscoe

Scooby was saved with just HOURS LEFT after landing on the euthanasia list. This handsome boy was running out of time, but someone saw that his life was worth saving. Now, we get to show the world what an incredible dog he truly is. And honestly? Scooby might just be the whole package. This boy is potty trained, knows how to listen, follows directions, and is eager to learn. He’s treat-motivated and can pick up new commands in just 2–3 repetitions when treats are involved. He walks beautifully off leash with his person and enjoys getting out for adventures, including hikes. Scooby gets along with other dogs when given slow, proper introductions.
Read more about Scooby
He’s also living proof that a big dog doesn’t have to make a big fuss about everything. He ignores his foster’s chickens and remains calm around other animals, even when other dogs are barking. When something catches his attention on a hike, he’ll stop and observe until he’s satisfied there’s no threat rather than immediately reacting. Inside the home? He’s a dream. Scooby isn’t destructive, enjoys a good chew stick, and simply wants to be near his person. But here’s where this big guy will steal your heart… Scooby is a certified LOVE BUG. He wants to be petted on his nose and head all day, every day. He’s happiest just being close to his human, soaking up affection and reminding you that sometimes the best part of life is having a loyal companion by your side. Think about it. A dog who listens, learns quickly, enjoys adventures, can coexist peacefully with other animals, knows his manners, and wants nothing more than to love his people. This is the dog who was almost out of time. Scooby deserved more than the final hours he was given. He deserved a chance to be someone's best friend, hiking buddy, couch companion, and forever shadow. Now he needs someone to give him the one thing rescue cannot promise forever: a home of his own. Could that be you? If you're looking for a wonderful companion to welcome into your life, please consider Scooby. He has so much love to give, and his next chapter deserves to be filled with safety, adventures, affection, and the promise that he will never have to wonder if his time is running out again. 6. Brandy
Adult (5 years 7 months) · Female · Doberman Pinscher · 42 mi from Roscoe

Meet Brandy, a stunning 5-year-old, CAT friendly, AKC red Doberman beauty who is every bit as sweet as she is beautiful!
Brandy has spent nearly her entire life devoted to one person. Since she was just 10 weeks old, she lived with her elderly human as his companion, and in true Doberman fashion, she took that job very seriously. Unfortunately, her owner recently had to move into assisted living, and his family made the difficult decision to find Brandy a new home where she can receive all the love, attention, and companionship she deserves.
Read more about Brandy
Brandy is a typical Dobe when it comes to her home and her person. She bonds closely with her human and will absolutely let strangers know she is there when they enter her territory. Once she knows you, though, you'll quickly see the sweet girl behind that beautiful red exterior.
Brandy has done well with the other dogs in her home. Any introductions to dogs or other pets should be done slowly, correctly, and with plenty of time for everyone to become comfortable.
Brandy has spent the last five years being someone's loyal companion, and now she's looking for someone who will be hers. She deserves a home that understands the devotion, intelligence, and protective nature that comes with loving a Doberman—and, most importantly, a family ready to make her part of their world again.
This red beauty has so much love and loyalty left to give. Could Brandy be your girl?

7. Klaus
Adult (2 years 10 months) · Male · Doberman Pinscher · 42 mi from Roscoe

Meet Klaus! Handsome doesn't begin to cover it. This sweet, approximately 3½-year-old neutered Doberman is a gentle soul with a heart as big as his ears are perky, and he's ready to find the family he's been dreaming about.
Klaus loves people of all ages, and he's a total pro with kids. He even has a 4-year-old human buddy who thinks he hung the moon. He's equally smooth with other dogs, getting along with both boys and girls, though he'd really love a female canine companion to share the couch with. Fair warning: Klaus is not a fan of cats, so his forever home needs to be cat-free.
Read more about Klaus
Klaus is a smart cookie, too. He knows his basic commands and has an excellent recall, so when you call, he comes running (probably with a goofy grin). He's never possessive of his food or toys, and he is affectionate to the core, the kind of dog who will happily lean into you for one more cuddle.
He's up to date on his vaccinations and is currently being treated for allergies. Like any good student, Klaus has one subject he's still working on: leash walking. With a little patience, structure, and continued training, he'll be strutting down the sidewalk like a champ.
Klaus has so much love to give. All he needs is a family who will offer patience, guidance, and most of all, a permanent place to call home. Could that be you?

8. Penny
Young (7 months) · Female · Doberman Pinscher · 42 mi from Roscoe

Meet Penny!
Penny is a sweet young girl who we estimate to be around 6 months old, and she has already been through more than any puppy should have to endure. Penny came to us from Animal Control in Wisconsin after suffering a severe broken leg. Despite everything she has been through, this little girl continues to show us just how resilient and loving she is.
Read more about Penny
Penny’s leg may ultimately need to be amputated, but because she is still so young, we are confident that she will adapt incredibly well if that ends up being the best option for her. We will be working closely with our veterinary team and following their recommendations to make sure Penny receives whatever care is truly in her best interest.
Right now, Penny is focused on being a puppy — learning, growing, and soaking up all the love she deserves. She is looking for a family who understands that she may have some extra medical needs along the way, but who also sees what we see: a bright, beautiful little girl with so much life ahead of her.
Penny has already overcome so much in her short life, and we cannot wait to see what her future holds. She deserves a family who will give her patience, love, and the chance to show everyone just how special she is.
Penny may have had a rough start, but we know her best days are still ahead.

9. Diamond
Adult (1 year 4 months) · Female · Doberman Pinscher · 42 mi from Roscoe

Meet Diamond! Diamond is a beautiful purebred blue Dober-girl somewhere between 1 and 2 years old, with a youthful, goofy spirit that makes her seem even younger. She is smart, playful, curious, and has the kind of personality that makes you smile just watching her figure out the world.
Diamond spent nearly a year at a boarding facility in California, so she is now discovering that the world is a MUCH bigger place than a kennel. New people? Interesting. New experiences? Hmmm... let's investigate. Weird things she has never seen before? She is working on it!
Read more about Diamond
The wonderful thing about Diamond is that she really tries to be the best girl. She wants to do the right thing, and you can almost see the wheels turning as she learns about all these new things she may not have experienced while living at the kennel. Give her a little patience, encouragement, and guidance, and she is eager to figure it out.
It is also VERY apparent that Diamond has had some serious obedience training. She knows her commands and clearly understands what is expected of her. She sits when its leash time, sits when the door opens and waits for you to tell her to go through. We suspect she may have spent some time as a board-and-train at the kennel she was at because this girl has some impressive skills!
She loves going for walks and is a fantastic car passenger. Diamond is quite happy riding shotgun, taking in the scenery and making sure everyone is following proper driving procedures.
And then there is the ball. Diamond LOVES to play ball. Throw it, she is on it. Throw it again, she is ready. And again. And again. We are pretty sure she would happily make ball retrieval her full-time career if someone would just keep the paycheck coming in tennis balls.
Diamond is dog-friendly. Once she feels comfortable with humans, her playful personality comes out. She is affectionate, curious, and wants to be involved in whatever her people are doing.
She isn't normally much of a talker, but put her in a crate and suddenly she has a LOT to say. Apparently, Diamond believes being crated is the perfect time to provide everyone within earshot with her thoughts on the situation.
She is also learning about some of the stranger things that come with being a house dog. The robot vacuum, or computer printer, for example, neither has not exactly won her endorsement. She is still reviewing those particular pieces of technology. She clearly does not approve.
Diamond is such a fun combination of youthful energy, intelligence, sweetness, and personality. She is learning every day, and watching her gain confidence as she experiences new things is pretty special. She would love a family who will continue her training, give her plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, play lots of ball, take her on adventures, and help her learn that all those new and sometimes weird things in the world are actually okay. Diamond tends to be very clingy once she determines you are her person.
She does startle easily by new things so a fully fenced yard will be required. Clearly learning about the outside world in her foster home.
Diamond is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on preventative. She is ready to keep learning, keep playing, and most importantly, finally have a family of her own. Diamond is fostered in Arizona. Adopters will need to travel to meet and adopt.

10. Atlas Adoption Pending
Adult (1 year 10 months) · Male · Doberman Pinscher · 42 mi from Roscoe

Watch Atlas Adoption Pending's videos (3)
ATLAS... PART-TIME GOOBER, FULL-TIME DOBERMAN SECURITY DETAIL
We have a bit of a naming crisis on our hands. We are torn between calling him Atlas, because apparently his compass is full and he's trying to figure out which direction his life is supposed to go... Or Doby, because "Doby" sounds suspiciously like the name you give a dog who has entered the Witness Protection Program and is not at liberty to discuss his previous life. ️♂️And honestly, we're starting to think Doby has been instructed by his attorney to say nothing without his human present.
Read more about Atlas Adoption Pending
Because here's what we know: This 1-year-old Doberman arrived with very little information and approximately 17,000 unanswered questions. He was dropped off at a foster's boarding facility without official approval, with almost no history. We were told he had lived with children, another dog, and that his name was Doby.
That's it. Apparently, the rest of his biography was classified.
When he first arrived, he was scared, confused and understandably unsure about what was happening. But once he started settling in, we discovered something important:
THIS BOY IS A TOTAL DOG NUT.
LOVES other dogs.
Playing? YES.
Romping? YES.
Wrestling? ABSOLUTELY.
Running around like someone just announced free pizza? EVERY SINGLE TIME.
He has been having a blast at daycare and absolutely LOVES hanging out with his canine friends.
Give him another dog and suddenly the worried, uncertain boy disappears and the Doberman version of a professional WWE wrestler comes out.
But then there's the other side of this handsome guy.
He's a Doberman.
And apparently his internal software came with the "Protect My People at All Costs" package pre-installed.
Once he bonds with his humans, he is going to love them HARD. He will want to be with his people, know where his people are and keep tabs on his people.
Strangers?
Well...Strangers may apply for access. He will probably want to personally review their credentials, references, employment history and possibly their intentions regarding the snack cabinet.
This is why Atlas/Doby is NOT a first-time Doberman.
He needs someone who already understands this breed and knows that a Doberman can be loving, goofy, affectionate, intelligent, loyal and protective......sometimes all before breakfast.
He is young and still needs refinement. He needs continued training, structure, consistency and someone who will help him learn that he doesn't have to worry about everything going on around him.
And let's be clear:
He WANTS to learn.
He's young. He's smart. He's curious. He's playful. He's figuring things out.
He's not looking for someone who expects a perfectly finished product.
He's looking for someone who looks at him and says:
"Yep. I know Dobermans. I got this."
Because when he decides you're his person, you're probably going to know about it.
❤️ You will be loved.
️ You will be protected.
You will be monitored.
You will probably be followed into the bathroom. And heaven help the suspicious-looking Amazon delivery driver.
Because of his fear and uncertainty, a secure physical fence is non-negotiable. We require a tall privacy fence or very tall chain-link fence. No invisible fences, tie-outs or unfenced properties.
He has previously lived with children ages 1 through 9 and two other dogs, a little Yorkie and a large Lab. We're told those dogs apparently had him thoroughly trained in the art of knowing his place. Now he's discovering that life can actually be pretty fantastic.
He gets to play with dogs. He gets to wrestle. He gets to romp. He gets to make friends.
And slowly, he's learning that people can be trusted too.
What Atlas/Doby needs now is his person. Not just anybody.
Not someone who thinks, "I've never owned a Doberman, but how hard could it be?"
Nope. We're looking for an experienced Doberman owner who understands the breed, understands protective behavior, enjoys training and is willing to help this young guy grow into the

How to adopt from United Doberman Rescue
Applicants must submit an adoption application, followed by background and reference checks, and finally a home visit to be completed by a qualified volunteer. A home visit report is submitted to the Board of Directors for review. If approved, the applicant is allowed to meet available dogs in our care. If the applicant decides to adopt, a detailed contract must be executed together with an adoption donation ranging from $250 to $500.
Adopting a dog in Roscoe
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
