1. Margarita

Adult · Female · Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat)

Margarita is a sweet, shy cautious introverted young lady who is full of joy and love once she is settled and trust you.
We are unsure of her history as she came to rescue from someone who had just gotten her from another situation.
She doesnt like loud noises or fast sudden movements, and will take a while to warm up to people. Once she does accept you she likes to play and get loves. She Loves Loves LOVES food and treats.
She is more comfortable and happy with dogs her size then people. She does ok with cats, she likes to try and play chase with them, so if the cat is open to 4 legged games. Her current bestie is a poddle mix and they run and play it, wrestle with each other, use the house and yard as a race track, steal toys from each other and generally just bring joy and mayhem together.
She does great in the car but is slow to learn the leash, outside her space is a big scary place so patience and a fully fenced in yard is a must.

A home with no small kids would be best, but with at least 1 other dog is preferable.

3. Teddy

Adult · Australian Shepherd

Meet Teddy, a very sweet and loving, 2 year old Australian Shepherd who has never met a stranger. Unfortunately his owner can no longer keep him because he works too many hours and Teddy is crated more than the breed should be. He is great with other dogs and loves going to the dog park. He is potty trained, neutered, and up to date on shots.
Because Teddy is an Australian Shepherd, he would do best with an active family and a fenced yard.

5. Tate

Senior · Male · Labrador Retriever / Boxer / Mixed

Tate proves that being a senior doesn’t mean slowing down! At 13 years old, he’s still spunky, playful, and full of personality; though he certainly appreciates a good nap and some quiet downtime, too.Tate was originally adopted through Heartland in 2014. While we don’t know the full story of what happened in the years that followed, we do know that the owner who adopted him passed away at some point. After that, Tate’s story becomes a mystery until this past July, when a St. Louis County citizen found him wandering on his own. She took him in, had him scanned for a microchip, and that scan led him right back to Heartland.Today, Tate is living his best senior life with his foster mom and three feline foster siblings.

Read more about Tate

He has been fully vetted, including a senior blood panel, is current on his vaccinations, and has received a clean bill of health.Tate quickly bonds with anyone who shows him love and comfort, and he’s proven to be quite the homebody. In fact, he wasted no time making himself comfortable, so comfortable that he even tried to steal one of the cats’ beds! Now that he’s in his golden years, Tate would be happiest in a calmer home with older children or no children. What he really wants is a soft place to land, someone to love, and a family who will give him the peaceful, happy retirement he deserves. After everything he’s been through, Tate is ready for the next chapter—and we think it should be his best one yet.

if you are aware of what it takes to raise a puppy and looking for an absolute love bug who is eager to please and learn, she won’t disappoint.

Read more about Bean

Adopting a dog in St. Charles County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
