Nash is a 5-month-old Great Pyrenees mix who is looking for a very special person to help him discover that the world isn’t such a scary place. ❤️

Nash is also the sweetest and BEST baby ever!!! He is so chill, except for little playful periods. He LOVES other dogs. He is fine with cats. He is almost potty trained. Does not make a peep all night in his kennel. He really is the goodest boy!

Meet Ivory!

Read more about Ivory

Ivory is one of the best dogs I’ve come across, she’s the best snuggle buddy and loves to snuggle up with you on the couch, she loves to go on walks and always up for an adventure, she’s completely house broke, loves her crate, loves other dogs and would love a play mate that can help show her around her new home. She loves kids (which also means she wants to be very close to them and lick their face) with some boundaries set she will make the best family dog! She also does great with strangers coming in the house. She is said to be good with cats, although I’ve not seen this, I don’t doubt it one bit!

6. Margarita

Adult · Female · Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 9 mi from St. Peters

Margarita is a sweet, shy cautious introverted young lady who is full of joy and love once she is settled and trust you.
We are unsure of her history as she came to rescue from someone who had just gotten her from another situation.
She doesnt like loud noises or fast sudden movements, and will take a while to warm up to people. Once she does accept you she likes to play and get loves. She Loves Loves LOVES food and treats.
She is more comfortable and happy with dogs her size then people. She does ok with cats, she likes to try and play chase with them, so if the cat is open to 4 legged games. Her current bestie is a poddle mix and they run and play it, wrestle with each other, use the house and yard as a race track, steal toys from each other and generally just bring joy and mayhem together.
She does great in the car but is slow to learn the leash, outside her space is a big scary place so patience and a fully fenced in yard is a must.

8. Tate

Senior · Male · Labrador Retriever / Boxer / Mixed · 9 mi from St. Peters

Tate proves that being a senior doesn’t mean slowing down! At 13 years old, he’s still spunky, playful, and full of personality; though he certainly appreciates a good nap and some quiet downtime, too.Tate was originally adopted through Heartland in 2014. While we don’t know the full story of what happened in the years that followed, we do know that the owner who adopted him passed away at some point. After that, Tate’s story becomes a mystery until this past July, when a St. Louis County citizen found him wandering on his own. She took him in, had him scanned for a microchip, and that scan led him right back to Heartland.Today, Tate is living his best senior life with his foster mom and three feline foster siblings.

Read more about Tate

He has been fully vetted, including a senior blood panel, is current on his vaccinations, and has received a clean bill of health.Tate quickly bonds with anyone who shows him love and comfort, and he’s proven to be quite the homebody. In fact, he wasted no time making himself comfortable, so comfortable that he even tried to steal one of the cats’ beds! Now that he’s in his golden years, Tate would be happiest in a calmer home with older children or no children. What he really wants is a soft place to land, someone to love, and a family who will give him the peaceful, happy retirement he deserves. After everything he’s been through, Tate is ready for the next chapter—and we think it should be his best one yet.

10. Pinto Bean

Adult (4 years 1 month) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 25 mi from St. Peters

Hi, my name is Pinto Bean. I'm an older gal at 9 - 1/2, I'm deaf and I have some trouble seeing in the dark. With all that said don't let that fool you. I still have quite a bit of spunk in me. My foster mom says I'm so cute and she gets a kick out of how excited I get when she gets home.

I love to go for walks and sniff everything in sight and try to catch all the squirrels. I'd probably do best with a fenced in yard so I can lie in the grass or just explore when I want. My foster mom tried a lead, but it didn't work out so well.

Read more about Pinto Bean

I love naps and being near my foster mom and dad. I currently have to share them with 2 younger cats and while I tolerate them, I'd probably do better with older cats who just like to chill or no cats at all.

I'm working on my potty training and being crated while everyone is gone during the day. I definitely don't like being crated at night.

If you have patience to help me master my pottying and are looking for an older gal who will be your best friend then look no further because you've found me.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to meet you soon!

Meet Pippin

Read more about Pippin

Pippin is a 2-year-old curious, kind-hearted pup who truly wants to make his human happy. His storyline almost ended far too soon. Pippin was pulled from the euthanasia list after experiencing extremely high levels of stress in the shelter environment. Now that he’s out of the shelter, he has the opportunity to show who he really is—and he’s already making incredible progress.

Pippin is smart, treat-motivated, eager to learn, and looking for someone who will give him the confident, consistent leadership he needs to thrive.

He is already crate trained, potty trained, and housebroken, and he is friendly with both cats and dogs. He loves learning and responds especially well to treats, praise, structure, and clear direction.

Pippin does best when his person takes the lead and shows him what is expected. With a confident handler, he walks well on leash and is making wonderful progress with his training. In just one week, he has already learned cues for turning and release, and he is currently working on leash skills and redirection.

The shelter environment was incredibly difficult for Pippin, but it did not define him. Outside of that stressful setting, he is showing that he is curious, kind, capable, and eager to connect with his person.

Pippin isn’t looking to be the one in charge—he’s looking for a human he can trust to guide him. Give him structure, consistency, patience, and kindness, and he’ll give you an eager student who genuinely wants to get it right.

12. Gomez

Adult (13 years 1 month) · Male · Pomeranian / Mixed (long coat) · 25 mi from St. Peters

Meet Gomez, a 13 year old 19 pound Pomeranian. This sweet guy is looking for his hopefully forever home. Gomez was adopted from Needy Paws as a 5 year old back in 2018 to what he thought was his forever home. But sadly his adopter abandoned him 8 years later as he was found roaming around by himself in a field in Jefferson County and taken to animal control where we happily reclaimed him. His owner was contacted but never reclaimed him.

Read more about Gomez

Gomez is a great dog who has been through a lot, he lost his home, he lost most of his beautiful fluffy hair due to a much-needed grooming, but don’t worry it’s growing back, he’s lost his hearing most likely to old age and he recently lost most of his remaining teeth due to neglect. He has a few back teeth left and this has not affected his eating.

Gomez is pretty healthy and happy for an old guy, with just the normal aches and pains of an elderly dog due to some arthritis in his legs. He does sometimes have a slight cough due to a slightly softened trachea, but otherwise no other symptoms. He gets along fine, just more slowly than a younger dog. He would do best in a home with few to no stairs and with someone who is home a lot. He’s great with the other small dogs and cats in his foster home. Gomez will need to go to a home with a fenced in yard, no exceptions.

He is potty trained and will let you know when it’s time to go outside to potty. He does like spending time in the yard just walking around and checking things out so he will need a fence. Most of all he loves snoozing in his dog bed.

This little man is extremely sweet and deserves to find a home that appreciates all his good qualities. His foster knows his perfect home is out there.

14. Patch

Adult (2 years 2 months) · Male · Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat) · 25 mi from St. Peters

Meet Patch! This handsome, wiggly-tailed guy is about 2 years old and weighs 47 pounds of pure love. With his sweet personality and heart of gold, Patch is the kind of dog who makes friends wherever he goes. He gets along with most other dogs, cats, kiddos of all ages, and pretty much anyone he meets. And if you happen to have a treat in your hand? Congratulations—you’ve just made a best friend for life!

Read more about Patch

Patch has been patiently waiting for his forever family while completing heartworm treatment, and he is almost finished! We’re so excited for him to finally get the chance to enjoy all the fun and adventures that come with being a beloved family dog.

While we haven’t gotten to see much of Patch’s active side during treatment, we believe he would love a family who enjoys being on the go and including their dog in the fun. He’ll likely need some leash training as he gets back into his active lifestyle, but his love of treats and eagerness to please should make learning new skills a rewarding experience for everyone.

At home, Patch is a wonderful mix of playful and cuddly. He enjoys playing with dog toys, other dogs, and kids, but his favorite activities are chewing on Benebones and curling up on a cozy couch or bed. He loves being part of the family and would be thrilled to have a home where he can spend time with his people.

Patch is incredibly treat-motivated and already knows how to sit and wait for his food and treats. With his enthusiasm for snacks, we think he would have a blast learning more tricks and showing off his skills. His new family can help him continue building confidence, learning new things, and becoming the best version of himself.

One important thing to know about Patch: he has discovered that chain-link fences 4 feet or shorter are no match for his athletic abilities! For his safety, he would do best with a wooden/privacy fence or a fence that is at least 6 feet tall. A securely fenced yard would be ideal, as Patch loves spending time outside and being part of whatever his family is doing.

With his wiggly nub of a tail, gentle heart, and love for just about everyone, Patch has so much to offer his forever family. He’s ready to trade heartworm treatment for belly rubs, Benebones, and a couch to call his own.

Could Patch be your newest family member? Send us an application! We would love for you to meet this sweet boy and see if he’s the perfect match for your family.

Bringing a dog home to your cat

Tell the rescue about your cat: their age and how they react to dogs. A dog who has lived calmly with one cat may still want to chase a cat that runs.

Introduce them slowly. Keep them apart for the first few days and swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior.

Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, like a high shelf or a room behind a baby gate, and keep the litter box and cat food out of the dog's way.
