1. Meatball
1 Year 11 Months · Male · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler · 40 mi from Burr

Meet Meatball – A Whole Lot of Love in One Adorable Package! How can you resist a face (and a name!) like Meatball?! This handsome, approximately 2-year-old Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler) is full of personality, affection, and that unmistakable cattle-dog charm!
Meatball came into rescue through no fault of his own. His previous family lost their home and, heartbreakingly, could no longer keep him. They were devastated to say goodbye, and now we're hoping to find Meatball the loving forever family he deserves.
So, what do you need to know about this lovable guy?Meatball is in a foster home with other dogs and does well.
Read more about Meatball
He is a people dog who is comfortable around kids, loves his humans and enjoys being part of the action. Once he bonds to you, he will be affectionate, fun-loving, and has plenty of personality to keep you smiling.
Meatball has been making great progress in foster care! He is potty-trained and he has been making wonderful strides with other dogs. Meatball can sometimes come on just a tad strong when meeting new dogs. He's learning to read social cues, practice appropriate introductions, and give other dogs a little breathing room. We're so proud of the progress he's making! Meatball would do best with a laid-back, non-dominant dog who doesn't feel the need to challenge him.
Meatball's ready for adventure! Walks, games of fetch, playtime, and keeping busy are right up his alley. Like most Heelers, he's a smart, active boy who enjoys having something to do. But he's also happy to wind down and relax with his people when the day's adventures are over.
He's got a little Heeler humor! Vacuums, noisy appliances, and other household items may occasionally attract his attention. After all, someone has to keep an eye on those suspicious household objects!
Meatball is a fun, affectionate, entertaining companion who has so much love to give. He's already made great strides in foster care, and we know his perfect family is out there.
His first family loved him enough to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go when circumstances changed. Now it's our turn to help him find a family who will love him for a lifetime.
Could Meatball be your missing piece? We sure hope someone gives this sweet boy the chance he's been waiting for!
Meatball's adoption fee is $350, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age- appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.
Like all Australian Cattle Dogs, GSDs, and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Meatlball will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization, in order to be a well-balanced, well-behaved dog. This sweet boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that he needs. Because of that, Rascal's ideal owner will have prior Australian Cattle Dog, GSD, or other similar breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills and manners.
2. Beanie Weenie
Young · Male · Chinese Crested-Hairless / Shih Tzu / Mixed (short coat) · 43 mi from Burr

If you were wondering what happens when you cross a majestic gargoyle with a very concerned Harry Potter house elf (and name him after a savory snack) look no further. Those bat ears? Radar-ready. Those tufts of hair? Pure wizard chic. That facial expression? A mix of deep, ancient wisdom and absolute confusion as to why a literal beanie weanie (or piece of cheese) hasn’t magically appeared in his mouth yet.
*13 months old
*Chinese crested/shih Tzu mix
*Male
*Weight - 11.25 pounds
*Medical- up to date, including neuter and microchip
*Personality - initially cautious, curious and once comfortable full time snuggle buddy
*Good with cats and dogs -
*Human Children - unknown but based on current exposure he would do well with respectful children
*Men - LOVES them. Yes, he is fine with women, but he loves him a man.
*Potty trained - I'm gonna say 99.99% because we're still learning each other's language.

3. Raven
Puppy · Female · Miniature Pinscher / Mixed (short coat) · 43 mi from Burr

Raven is just a baby at only 4 months old. She is already 8lbs so we think she will be a larger size mix of a minpin maybe 15-20 lbs. She has the energy and inquisitiveness of a minpin that is for sure. Raven learned a doggie door in a day, she is a smart alert dog. She has not been much of a barker and goes into her kennel at night and when her foster is gone just fine. She has kept her kennel clean so she is learning housetraining. She would love another dog to play with. The resident dog in her foster home is 15 and not at all interested in playing with a puppy no matter how hard she tries.
Read more about Raven
Raven is food motivated and might just jump on you to eat what you have. She will need a home that will work on her training and be able to handle her energy level. We do not know how she is with cats but will probably want to play with them. She does have sharp puppy teeth she might nick you when playing.
To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $300 donation is requested at the time of adoption. 4. Betty
Adult · Female · Yellow Labrador Retriever (short coat) · 43 mi from Burr

Betty is a wonderful 4-year-old yellow lab. She is spayed and current on her vaccinations. Like most labs her age Betty is is an active happy silly playful girl.
Her current owner has some health issues that make the active lifestyle she needs hard. Betty has lived with another lab. Betty is not looking an active dog who will be in her face. She is use to old and slow as a housemate. She has never been around cats and would probably chase or want to play with them so let’s say no to cats to be safe.
Betty loves every person she meets with her happy wiggly butt but also will want to jump on them so a home with older kids would be better since she can clearly knock over small ones.
Beautiful Betty is housetrained and baby gated trained but has not been in a kennel for years. She is not a hunting dog as she is gun and load noise shy. Betty is a purebred lab about 60 lbs and all love.

5. Dolly
Adult · Female · Siberian Husky (medium coat) · 47 mi from Burr

Hello, y'all. I'm Dolly.
I'm new to the rescue and still finding my song. I'm looking for my new home with a place to lay my head. I'd be best in a home with older children. I get along with other dogs, even small ones.I'll be up to date on shots and my health looks good!
In the short time I was transported I was a VERY good girl! I got to ride in an airplane. The pilot said I didn't make a peep in my crate. I've become a staff favorite.
I love walks and get excited just to be out with you. I am interested in the people that walk by but I don't pull ONE BIT on the leash. I'm just so happy to see the world!
I'd love for you to come by and say HI. Apply to meet Dolly.

6. Cowboy
Adult · Male · Siberian Husky (medium coat) · 47 mi from Burr

Howdy, partner! I'm Cowboy, a handsome fella just lookin' for a place to hang my hat! I'm not some troubled lost soul either. The humans here say I'm sweet-natured, friendly, a proper gentleman and a scholar. Awwww, shucks! Some of my ornery husky cousins like to run wild and raise a ruckus, but I prefer a good, quiet afternoon curled up beside your boots or happily strollin' down the trail by your side. I'm kid-friendly and dog-friendly. I met a cat one time and wagged my tail but the jury is still deliberatin' on whether I would chase one of those varmints.
Are ya fixin' to request a formal introduction? Yee haw!! Fill out an application and mention me, Cowboy! We might just ride off into the sunset together!

Cochise has arrived, is getting vetted, and settling in! We will update as we learn more about him.
Cochise is being fostered in Omaha, Nebraska.
____________________________________________________
Cochise is in need of a home after his owner passed away unexpectedly.
Cochise is described as a very sweet and biddable dog. He is very good with other dogs and has gotten along well with all of the dogs in his previous home. He is also good with children.
Cochise has a hunting background and has lived in an outdoor kennel. He is reportedly not good with cats, so a cat free foster home will be needed.
Read more about Cochise
Because Cochise has only lived in an outdoor kennel, he will need to learn how to live in a home. GPPR dogs are indoor dogs, so his foster family will need to be prepared to help him learn the routines and expectations of indoor living, including potty training. Patience will be especially important as he adjusts to a completely new environment.
We are looking for a foster home willing to give Cochise the time and patience he needs to make the transition from outdoor kennel life to living indoors.

Adopting a dog in Burr
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
