1. Dasiy

Adult (6 years 11 months) · Female · Unknown breed (short coat) · 7 mi from Portsmouth

Sweet Daisy is a survivor! She survived being shot and has shrapnel permanently imbedded in her nasal cavity. It doesn't bother her and there is nothing medically needed, however it does make her a VERY loud breather and snorer (listen to video). The only considerations for her are the same as a brachycephalic dog (smushed faces). Can over heat easir and need to watch her in heat and with over exercizing. She is very sweet, likes kids, cats, chicken, livestock and dogs if they are not rowdy. She gets annoyed with rowdy dogs but does not fight, sh's a lover not a fighter. She has also survived heartworm treatment like a champ! Daisy has bee in a rescue for over a year and is now ready for her forever home and family of her own.

2. Macy

2 Years · Female · Pit Bull Terrier · 28 mi from Portsmouth

Hi! My name is Macy. I'm in the market for a new family, so I thought I would give you a rundown of what my daily schedule is. First, I like to take a quick 3 hour nap. Then, I take a quick 1 hour nap to recover from my previous nap. After that, I have a little snackie and then take ANOTHER nap .......just kidding, I hate naps! I love 3 things in life: food, exercise, and people! Sometimes I like people so much that I jump on them. My foster humans think it would be best if I went to a home with teenagers and above, at least until I can learn to contain my excitement! I am crate trained, housebroken and ready to go off onto my next adventure. Maybe that could be with you? If you're interested in being my new humans, please submit an application on our website!

3. Marley

Adult (5 years 7 months) · Female · Australian Shepherd / Golden Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 28 mi from Portsmouth

Marley is a beautiful 5-year-old Golden Retriever/Australian Shepherd mix who is just the perfect size—not too big and not too small. She is housebroken, up to date on her vaccinations, and ready to find a family who will love her for exactly who she is. Marley is a special girl who needs a little time to feel comfortable around new people. She is wary of strangers and will bark when someone enters the home, so her ideal family will understand that she needs patience, consistency, and time to warm up. Once Marley bonds with her people, though, she is a loving and devoted companion. ❤️

Read more about Marley

Marley has lived with children most of her life and seems to absolutely love them. She would do best as the only pet in the home, with no other dogs or cats. Marley is a playful girl who LOVES her toys. One of her cutest talents is entertaining herself by tossing her toys around and playing catch all by herself! She rides wonderfully in the car and loves going for rides. And is not destructive when left home alone.

Because Marley can be vocal when strangers enter the home, an apartment would not be a good fit. She would do best in a home where her family can give her the space and time she needs to settle in and build trust. If you're looking for a loyal companion and are willing to let her come out of her shell at her own pace, Marley may be the girl you've been waiting for. ❤️

4. Archie

1 Year 11 Months · Male · Basset Hound / Rat Terrier / Mixed · 28 mi from Portsmouth

Hello there! I know what you're thinking: you see my bowtie and think 'Wow, this dog is very important. He must have a very serious occupation.' And you would be right. As of today, I am no longer Archie the dog. I am now Archibald, Attorney at Paw. I specialize in representing other dogs when they are the victims of terrible crimes, like humans not sharing their snacks, or being forced to take a baths, or not getting pup cups regularly. I take my new job very seriously. I may be small at 28 pounds, but my sense of justice is mighty! Now onto my qualifications. Did I go to law school? No. Did I pass the bar exam? Also no.

Read more about Archie

Did I even go to obedience school? No again. But my foster pawrents say I'm smart and food motivated, so that's good enough I think. I'm good with adults and everyone loves me, so I'm sure I can use my charm and good looks to win anyone over - including judges and other lawyers. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with young kids, so I am looking for a courtroom that is adults and teenagers only! I also am good with other dogs, so I will relate well to my clients. I'm a young attorney at only 1 year old, but I am a very energetic pup and I feel like I can channel that energy into being the best lawyer ever! There's only one thing in the way of me being an attorney: I need somewhere to practice. My foster home said I could stay here until I found a new place, but I know I can't stay here forever. Maybe you have room in your heart and home for a dapper, energetic, ambitious little guy who loves bowties? Adopting a dog in Portsmouth

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
