1. Roxy
Senior · Female · Rat Terrier / Mixed

Meet Roxy! 15 years young and still full of love to give!Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn, and through no fault of her own, sweet Roxy finds herself looking for a new place to call home. Roxy was surrendered by a family who loved her dearly, and while starting over at 15 years old isn’t easy, she has so much love left to give to the right family.Roxy is a sweet, affectionate girl whose favorite place to be is right by your side. She’s happiest simply being near her people, soaking up all the love and attention she can get. Don’t let her age fool you, though! She still enjoys the occasional play session with her favorite toys, but what she especially loves is spending time with her dog friends.Roxy gets along wonderfully with both dogs and cats, making her a lovely addition to a home with other furry companions.
Read more about Roxy
She’s more of a homebody and can be nervous in unfamiliar environments or out in public. Car rides aren’t exactly her idea of a good time either! She isn’t difficult in the car, but she does tend to shake and sometimes whine throughout the ride. A cozy home and a predictable routine are much more her speed. When meeting new people, Roxy can be a little shy and skittish at first. She just needs some time, patience, and reassurance to feel comfortable. But once she lets you into her heart, get ready for a little shadow! She becomes incredibly attached to her people and would happily spend her days following you from room to room.As far as her medical history goes, Roxy has an asymptomatic grade 2 heart murmur and mild arthritis. Otherwise, she’s doing wonderfully for a girl her age! She also has a little skin tag on her face, which is purely cosmetic and causes her no medical issues. And honestly, Roxy knows she’s adorable with or without it!Roxy may be 15, but she still has plenty of cuddles, companionship, and love to offer. She’s not looking for grand adventures or a busy lifestyle. She just wants a soft place to land, a family to call her own, and someone who will let her spend her golden years feeling safe, loved, and cherished.Applications can be filled out at www.piedmontanimalrescue.com/adopt! Sheer joy! That's Smokey in two words. This adorable young black poodle mix loves everybody, plays with every dog he meets, and approaches life with so much enthusiasm that sometimes all four feet leave the ground at once! He's smart, affectionate, endlessly entertaining, and quite possibly the happiest little Superboy we've ever met.
Please Note: Carolina Poodle Rescue requires a meet and greet where everyone living in the home - all people and all dogs - will come to our farm to meet dogs. This is non-negotiable. Please do not apply if you and your family can't make this commitment.
Please note - if you want to skip the text and go straight to the application, you can find the link here: www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/application/
Must have: Another dog, time, a loving family, family dedicated to socialization of young puppies
Exercise: Smokey is a young, active poodle mix who loves to run, romp, and play. Once medically cleared, he will need daily activity and opportunities for safe, off-leash exercise at least twice per week. A fenced yard would be wonderful, but a family with a thoughtful exercise and socialization plan will also be considered. His current veterinary restrictions must be followed until his orthopedic follow-up is complete.
Best with: An active, loving family with another young, playful dog who enjoys wrestling, romping, and being silly. Smokey absolutely adores canine companionship. His current best friend is a little white poodle princess named Colette, and the two are quite a pair! He also loves people and is delighted to make new friends.
Not ideal for: A quiet household looking for a laid-back couch potato or a home where Smokey would spend long hours without companionship and opportunities to play. He is a puppy with all the enthusiasm, curiosity, and energy that comes with being young.
Energy level: High! Smokey is a busy, happy, playful puppy who throws himself wholeheartedly into everything he does.
Smokey is currently enjoying a temporary foster home this week, where he figured out the doggie door on his very first try! He's walking proudly on a leash, learning his household manners, and making his foster mom very proud. He has had an occasional overnight crate accident at the rescue, but we're wondering if his best friend Colette, who was sleeping right next to him, was keeping him awake. He's making wonderful progress!
Good with dogs: Absolutely! Smokey loves dogs of all shapes and sizes and plays enthusiastically with everyone. His friendship with Colette is especially adorable.
Good with kids: Loves people! We have not yet specifically evaluated him with young children.
Cats: Not yet tested.
Fun fact: Smokey can jump like a goat! All four feet straight up in the air when he's excited. And for Halloween, he dressed as Superboy, complete with his very own superhero cape. We think the name fits him perfectly!
Please request Smokey's full medical history before applying. He has had some challenges and is working through them beautifully.

Please Note: Carolina Poodle Rescue requires a meet and greet where everyone living in the home - all people and all dogs - will come to our farm to meet dogs. This is non-negotiable. Please do not apply if you and your family can't make this commitment.
Tara is a LAP DOG.
Not a dog who occasionally enjoys sitting in your lap. Not a dog who might climb up beside you if the mood strikes.
Tara believes laps were invented specifically for her.
She is an extraordinarily affectionate, snuggly little girl who has spent her life being loved, cherished and cared for — and she would very much like that arrangement to continue, please.
Tara came into Sheila’s life as a tiny four-week-old Morkie puppy. Noel, Sheila’s older CPR dog, became Tara’s mentor, security blanket and best friend. The girls have been together ever since, and when Sheila’s health failed, her request was that they remain together.
We agree. Tara and Noel will be adopted as a pair.
Must have: Noel. These two girls are family, and they are going home together.
Exercise: Low to moderate. Tara enjoys getting out and about, but her favorite destination is still going to be your lap.
Best with: Someone who genuinely wants a companion dog close by. A retired person or couple who is home often and has plenty of love to give would be absolutely wonderful for Tara and Noel. They don’t need a busy social calendar. They need people who want company — because these girls have plenty of it to give.
Not ideal for: A home where dogs are expected to be independent or spend most of the day by themselves. Tara wants a relationship with her people, preferably at extremely close range.
Energy level: Low to moderate. Tara is younger than Noel and has a little more pep, but she is not looking for an athletic career. Her primary occupation is companionship.
Tara has been very well loved and well cared for throughout her life. Her veterinary records show consistent preventive care and regular dental care. She had another routine dental cleaning in June 2026 and is not currently on any daily medication.
Good with dogs: Yes. Tara has lived happily with Noel for years and is comfortable with canine companionship.
Good with kids: Unknown. Tara is a small, affectionate dog, so we would want children who understand how to be gentle and respectful with little dogs.
Cats: Untested, but we would be happy to introduce her to cats and see what she thinks.
Fun fact: Tara’s definition of personal space is simple: if there is room between you and Tara, Tara intends to fix that.
We think Noel and Tara could be absolutely wonderful companions for someone retired or home much of the time who is looking for two little dogs to share the quiet parts of life with.
Noel brings the gentle, steady presence.
Tara brings the snuggles.
Lots and lots of snuggles.
These girls have spent years being loved. We are looking for someone who wants to pick up where Sheila had to leave off — and love them the rest of the way home.

Once his outdoor adventures are complete, Oyster’s favorite place to be is curled up on the couch right beside his foster mom, soaking up all the pets and affection he can get. Being both house and crate trained, he is a well-mannered companion who will make an effortless and seamless addition to a loving household. Oyster is a total gentleman in public and has done great around children. In his foster home, he finds chasing the resident cat to be a fun game, so he will do best in a home with no cats. If you are searching for a chill, friendly, and affectionate guy to complete your family, look no further than Oyster!

If you are interested in adopting Oyster, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet's age.
Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt.

19. Kilough
Puppy (9 months) · Male · Rottweiler (short coat)

Meet Kilough, an absolute dream of an 8-month-old Rottweiler puppy who is ready to steal your heart!
Read more about Kilough
Kilough is as stunning as he is smart. With his classic handsome Rottie looks and impressive intelligence, he’s the total package. He is a super loving, eager-to-please boy who thinks everyone he meets—adults and kids alike—is his new best friend. He also gets along great with other dogs and loves to play! Since he is still a young, intact pup waiting until he's old enough for his neuter, he can occasionally get hyper-focused on other male dogs and show typical puppy humping behaviors, but with consistent redirection and his eventual neuter, he’ll easily navigate social settings.
This brilliant pup is already way ahead of the game! He is:
Fully housebroken
Crate trained
Up to date on all age-appropriate vetting
Microchipped
His Ideal Home: Kilough is a high-energy, highly intelligent working breed puppy. He isn't just looking for a yard to hang out in—he needs an active home that will provide both physical exercise and daily mental stimulation (think puzzle toys, trick training, or agility games!). Because he is so smart and eager to learn, structured training will be the key to helping him thrive and grow into the incredible companion he’s destined to be.
If you’re looking for a playful, loyal, and brainy best friend to join your active family, Kilough is ready to fill your home with endless love and fun!

Weight: About 17 lbs
Height: Estimated 12 inches at the shoulder
Estimated age: About 18 months–2 years old
Spayed/Neutered: Yes, Sabbath is neutered
Adoption Fee: $299
Fence needed? Yes — and it needs to be secure. Sabbath is an explorer, an escape artist and an impulsive little guy who should not be trusted loose outside. His foster family strongly recommends an AirTag as an extra layer of security.

Please note — if you want to skip the text and go straight to the application, you can find the link here: www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/application/
Here’s Your Quick Peek:
Sabbath — known as Murphy in his foster home — is equal parts snugglebug, stubborn little terrier and professional blanket burrower.
His favorite place is beside his person, preferably touching you. His even MORE favorite place is in bed with you, under the covers. Once he trusts you, belly rubs are wonderful, toys and balls are great fun, and being close to his human is pretty much the entire point of life.
Murphy loves big.
And wherever you are, Murphy is probably going to be there too. He likes to be in the same room as his people and is happiest when he can be part of everyday life.
Must have: An experienced, patient dog owner who understands that this sweet boy also has opinions. Murphy needs calm, consistent boundaries and someone willing to continue teaching him that humans sometimes get to make the decisions. He can protest when asked to do something he does not want to do and has occasionally used his teeth as part of that protest. He responds to redirection and clear, consistent handling.
Exercise: Currently restricted while his surgically repaired right front leg finishes healing. His activity has already been increased to several controlled 10–15 minute walks each day, and he is using the leg much more consistently. Follow-up X-rays are scheduled for November 17.
Best with: Someone who wants a close companion and is home much of the time. Murphy would be wonderful for a retired person or couple who wants a dog beside them on the couch, under the blankets and involved in everyday life.
Not ideal for: Someone away from home for long hours, an inexperienced dog owner, or a home that expects a very independent dog. His foster family also believes Murphy would prefer to be the only dog in the home, where he does not have to share his person or manage food around other dogs.
Energy level: Moderate, with young-dog/puppy tendencies. He is still recovering from orthopedic surgery, so we have not yet seen his completely unrestricted activity level. What we do know is that he is curious, quick, playful and enthusiastic about exploring.
Murphy has had quite a year. He first entered Columbia Animal Services in March after being surrendered by someone who had taken him in when his owner could no longer care for him. His original owner reclaimed him the following day. He returned to the shelter on September 25 after being hit by a car when his owner was unable to provide the veterinary treatment he needed.
The accident caused serious fractures of his right front leg, including fractures of the radius/ulna and olecranon. They were surgically repaired with plates and screws in October. He has been recovering beautifully in his foster home and is increasingly using the repaired leg. His surgical team planned follow-up radiographs at approximately six weeks to evaluate bone healing before completely releasing his activity restrictions.
House training: A work in progress, but Murphy is making real progress. He has started scratching at the front door to let his foster family know he wants to go out, which is a big step forward. When left for appointments, he has also successfully used pee pads in the house. He will still need consistency, frequent trips outside and

28. Elsa
Young · Female · Carolina Dog (short coat)

Elsa is a spayed Carolina Dog mix born about April 2026. She’s extremely joyous, sweet and loving in her foster home. She has a lot of puppy energy, and once she gets that out, she is a cuddle bug. House training and crate training in progress, and she walks very well on a leash. She’s vocal if she’s inside and someone arrives, so you will be alerted if someone comes to your home which is great security. She is very good around other dogs, large and small, and also doesn’t bother the cats in her foster home. Elsa is such a great dog, contentedly waiting for her forever home and people. Adoption fee $75. This covers the cost of spay/neuter, DHPP, Rabies, Flea, tick, heart worm check, worm treatment, and microchip. To adopt, you need to first fill out an application. Go to:

Height: Approximately 20" at the shoulder. We believe Colette is close to her full-grown size.
Spayed/Neutered: Yes, Colette is spayed.
Adoption Fee: $699
Fence needed? No. Colette would enjoy a fenced yard, but we will consider homes without one that have a good plan for safe, off-leash exercise and play at least twice per week.

Read more about Colette Oct
Colette is a puppy interrupted! This petite white poodle spent far too much of her early life confined, and now she's making up for lost time with enthusiasm, affection, and an absolute conviction that people are the most wonderful creatures on earth. She's playful, mischievous, endlessly loving, and determined to become somebody's heart dog!
Must have: A home that enjoys puppy antics and puppy joy. Colette is still learning and will need guidance and direction.
Exercise: Colette enjoys playing with other dogs and exploring her world. She needs daily exercise, opportunities for safe off-leash activity at least twice per week, and a family who will help her continue developing confidence and good manners.
Best with: Someone who wants a devoted companion and enjoys the enthusiasm of a young dog. Colette loves people and would be delighted to be the center of someone's world. Another friendly, playful dog would be a wonderful bonus, but we believe she could also thrive as an only dog with plenty of human companionship.
Not ideal for: A household with extremely active, boisterous children where the excitement might encourage Colette to become overly rambunctious herself. She also would not be a good match for someone expecting a fully trained, perfectly mannered adult dog. Colette is still learning!
Energy level: Medium. Colette loves to play and can be wonderfully silly, but she also knows how to settle down and enjoy quiet companionship. One of her favorite places is lying at her caregiver's feet in the kitchen, just being close to someone she loves.
Colette is a delightful young poodle with a huge capacity for love. She missed out on many of the experience's puppies should have, but she's eager to learn and ready to discover everything the world has to offer. What she wants most is a person to call her own.
Good with dogs: Wonderful! Colette enjoys dogs of all sizes and is especially gentle with smaller dogs. Her current best friend is Smokey, another young poodle, and the two love spending time together.
Good with kids: Colette has not lived with children in our care, but we believe gentle, respectful children could be a lovely match. Very active children might encourage her to become overly excited, so a calmer household would probably suit her better.
Cats: Colette had cats in her first foster home and had no issues with our feline friends.
Fun fact: Colette may be a standard poodle, but she's a petite one! At approximately 20 inches tall and 33 pounds, she's closer to moyen size, and we don't expect her to grow much more. Please request Colette's full medical history before applying.

Read more about Kilo Oct
Kilo is a sweet and loving Miniature Poodle who came to CPR after being surrendered to a shelter. We happened to meet him while picking up another dog and knew he deserved a chance at a better future.
Kilo was very nervous during his first day with us, but once he realized he was safe, he settled in beautifully. Today, he's an affectionate little guy who loves attention, adores sitting in laps, and would happily spend most of his day being loved on by his people.
Must have: adult‑only home, patient adopter, continued basic training and manners
Exercise: moderate - walks, playtime, and companionship
Best with: adults, respectful dog companions, someone home often
Not ideal for: homes with children or dogs that overwhelm other dogs
Energy level: medium - affectionate, playful, and people‑oriented
We were told through word of mouth that Kilo had allegedly bitten a child. We have no proof, documentation, or firsthand knowledge of what occurred, and this is the only information we were provided. Under our care, we have not observed any biting behavior. Kilo can become a little mouthy when he's excited and playing with people, and we suspect this may have contributed to what happened previously, but we simply do not know for certain. Because of the unknown history, Kilo is looking for a child‑free home. Kilo prefers people over dogs and would rather coexist than wrestle and play. He can be selective about his dog friends and doesn't enjoy dogs that constantly jump on him or invade his space. He loves attention, affection, and being close to his people.
Good with dogs: yes, with respectful dogs
Good with kids: no — adult‑only home recommended
Cats: unknown
Fun fact:
Kilo's favorite place is your lap. Once he trusts you, he'll happily curl up beside you and soak up every bit of attention you're willing to give.

Adopting a dog in Gaston County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
