7. Joey

Young (1 year 3 months) · Male · Chihuahua / Pomeranian / Mixed (long coat) · 42 mi from Greensboro

Up in the sky! Look! It's a Pomeranian! It's a Chihuahua! It's Joey! Joey is a year old, eight pound, long-haired Chi-pom mix, and his energetic personality matches this medley of furballs.

Joey was found as a stray in a cage with 6 or 7 other similar-looking dogs. He is not used to living indoors with humans, but he is slowly becoming confident. He has learned a lot in the meantime: to settle in his crate, to take walks on a leash, and to play with his toys independently.

Read more about Joey

Joey loves chasing dragonflies and army-crawling in tall grass. He loves sprinting in the yard and chewing on collagen sticks and yak cheese. He especially loves his snuffle mat!
There are a few quirks about Joey that will take patience from his future humans. Although he has learned to toilet outdoors, he hasn’t quite gotten over some handling issues. Fear and excitement cause him to have little accidents. Thankfully, he is very small and has gotten used to wearing a belly band. Joey also needs to be closely watched as he enjoys jumping from high places and will need to be discouraged from parkouring. But hey, that means he might be great for an agility course!

Joey is young and acts like a puppy, so obedience training is a must. He should not be in a home with children younger than 10. He enjoys sprinting outside and would be best in a home with a big, physically-fenced yard.

Mai Mai is a delightful 6-year-old female Japanese Chin weighing 14 pounds. She is a gentle, sweet girl with a charming personality who gets along wonderfully with other dogs.

True to her breed, Mai Mai has some endearing and unique quirks! She does the classic Japanese Chin "chin wave," happily waving her front paws to greet you or get your attention. She is also meticulously tidy and loves to groom herself just like a cat.

IMPORTANT Hart-2-Heart Rescue, Greensboro, North Carolina only posts our adoptable dogs on Petfinder and Adopt-A-Pet. Once you email us we will email you questions and our adoption application. Please do not complete an application for any of our dogs on a pet adoption platform, as we only accept applications submitted on the application we sent you.

Read more about Chip

Chip is an adorable 4-year-old Yorkie mix weighing 9 pounds. His coarse coat is low maintenance and low to no shed.

Chip is an active, athletic terrier who loves toys and is good at entertaining himself. He would make a great companion for someone who enjoys walking or is interested in clicker training. Like most terriers, he'll bark when there's something worth announcing, and he is undeterred by his tiny size.

Chip is initially unsure when he meets new people, but learned quickly to trust his foster mom and other women. He is slower to trust men, so his adopter will need to be patient and allow him time to adjust at his pace.

Because Chip is quick and can dart through open doors, his new family must be vigilant around exterior doorways.

The ideal home for Chip would be with someone who has experience going slow and moving at Chip’s pace and wants to bond with a dog through training and enrichment activities.
Chip has made great progress with house training in his foster home, and needs a patient person to continue his routine and training.

Chip will do best as an only dog; however, he has learned to co-exist peacefully in his foster home.

Please email h2hadoptions@gmail.com directly. There is an application process and a $500 adoption fee.

10. Chase

Adult (6 years 2 months) · Male · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie · 7 mi from Greensboro

IMPORTANT NOTE: We ONLY post our dogs on Petfinder and Adopt-A-Pet! If you see Hart-2-Heart dogs on ANY OTHER platform, it is likely a SCAM - DO NOT submit an application on that platform!

Chase is a fun-sized 5lb Yorkie who is 6 years old. He is a great cuddler and the perfect lap buddy.

Read more about Chase

Chase can be shy when you first meet him. He came to us as a breeder-release dog, having never lived in a home as someone’s beloved pet. Many dogs like this have never been on a leash or set foot on grass to potty. Chase was a little reserved in the beginning, but since adjusting to his foster family, he has really come to life.

Chase is smart and curious. He’s always smiling and gets excited when you talk or play chase with him. He loves to play with the other dogs in his foster home. We require his adoptive home to have another small social dog under 12lbs so he can continue to watch and learn from another dog in the home.

Chase is still learning house-training and leash walking, so he will need someone with time and patience to help him be successful. We require an all-adult home with a small, securely fenced yard. The fenced yard is not so he can be left alone, but to help with house-training, since most pups do not want someone hovering over them when trying to potty. Chase is trying to learn how to use stairs, so we prefer a home with limited to no stairs.

There is an application process and adoption fee.

WE REQUIRE AN ALL-ADULT HOME WITH A SECURELY FENCED YARD. The secure fence must be attached to the home, 4 feet or higher with gaps with no larger than 1.5 inches. 11. Etta

Adult (3 years 4 months) · Female · French Bulldog (short coat) · 42 mi from Greensboro

Etta only had one reason for being wanted in her previous life- she was a breeder. Unfortunately, producing puppies for profit isn't something that also afforded her the love and care she deserved in her previous life. Etta's ears no longer stand up due to severe untreated infections. Etta chose not to compete with all of the other dogs she lived with for food, so she was underweight when she entered foster care. Despite these conditions, Etta is a total love bug. She deserves the RIGHT family to spend her days with, and that is exactly what she will have.

Read more about Etta

Etta has been spayed, micro chipped, and is up to date on all preventative medications. She also had a soft palate surgery and nasal stenosis, to help her breathe better. She has allergies, so she will require regular visits to the vet to deal with them, as needed. She will need to stay on a fatty acid and joint supplement, and will require special food and daily probiotics- for life. There is no such thing as an inexpensive French Bulldog, so please be sure you not only have the means- but the willingness, to afford her CARE. An experienced dog owner is a must (with an impeccable vet reference), preference will be given to those who are familiar with Brachycephalic breeds and the special care they require.

Etta has occasional zoomies, and she would love another dog to wrestle with (she will adjust her play to the size of her companion), and loves a leisurely early morning walk when the temperature is safe for her to be outside- but otherwise she is a snoring, snorting, flatulence filled- couch potato. She adores her people, so someone who isn't gone for long hours is a plus. When you are gone, she is crate trained and loves a stuffed kong to keep her busy. She is good with cats, but would do best with a dog savvy cat. Etta is a "private pooper", she chooses the outskirts of the yard to potty, so she requires a secure fenced in yard (physical fencing only, please) to keep up her good potty habits. All children in the home should be 10 and over, she gets a bit too excited with wee children.

For the RIGHT home, Etta will be a fabulous addition. She has spent her limited time on this earth giving everything to humans who didn't appreciate her. Now it's Etta's turn to have her needs met. We know her wish list is long, we aren't looking for average- Etta deserves the BEST.

Small dogs suit apartments and smaller homes, are easy to take along, and many live well into their teens.
