12. Wilbur

Young (9 months) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 23 mi from Locust

Wilbur is a very sweet little boy, who is working on getting his peach fuzz back. He is very smart, though he gets so excited when he's learning new commands and tasks that he sometimes has trouble paying attention. Think a soccer player who runs with his shirt over his head after scoring a goal! He will wag his tail with such ferocity that his entire body curves into a circle in each direction and his tail thwacks his head. He stays close to his handler on walks, is lovely on a leash and is incredibly focused when running. If you want a companion for some miles, this little dude will be a fantastic one! Wonderful with dogs, curious but respectful of cats. We're working on manners with jumping and mouthing, but very treat and toy motivated.

13. Rebecca

Young (7 months) · Female · Hound / Mixed (medium coat) · 23 mi from Locust

Meet Rebecca!

This sweetie is Rebecca, a 6-month-old, 30-pound mix of something — and while we may not know exactly what breeds created this adorable girl, we do know they made one very sweet puppy!

Rebecca absolutely loves playing with other dogs and has done wonderfully with all the people she has met. She’s a social, happy girl who enjoys being part of whatever is going on around her.

Read more about Rebecca

One thing Rebecca has already mastered is her crate! She is very quiet when crated and sleeps through the entire night, which is pretty impressive for a puppy her age. She is still working on house training, but she’s making great progress and just needs a family willing to continue helping her learn.

Rebecca is an active puppy who loves to play and explore, and she is still learning all those important puppy manners. She may not get everything right the first time, but this girl tries so hard and is eager to learn!

If you’re looking for a sweet, playful, dog-friendly puppy who is ready to grow and learn alongside her forever family, Rebecca may be your girl!

17. Sandra

Adult (2 years 1 month) · Female · Siberian Husky / Mixed (long coat) · 23 mi from Locust

Meet Sandra!

Sandra is a beautiful 2-year-old Siberian Husky who has officially finished her motherhood duties and is ready to find a forever family of her very own!

In early September, Sandra gave birth to three beautiful baby girls and did an amazing job raising them. Now that her puppies are grown and preparing for homes of their own, it’s finally Sandra’s turn to be the one getting all the attention!

Read more about Sandra

Sandra has settled wonderfully into her foster home and is showing everyone what a sweet, playful, and fun girl she really is. She is doing well living with other dogs and loves having the opportunity to play. She has also done great with children she has met at adoption events and enjoys meeting new people.

Sandra is both house trained and crate trained, and at just 2 years old, she still has plenty of playful Husky energy. She would love a family that will include her in their activities, give her opportunities to play and explore, and then let her enjoy being part of the family at the end of the day.

Now that she is recovering from raising her puppies, we expect Sandra's healthy weight to be approximately 50–55 pounds. She will also be spayed as part of her vetting.

Sandra spent the last several months being a wonderful mama. Now she's ready to put motherhood behind her and enjoy being a young, playful dog again!

If you're looking for a beautiful, social, dog-friendly girl with a wonderful temperament and plenty of personality, Sandra may be your perfect match!

Puppy (6 months) · Male · Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat) · 23 mi from Locust

Pluto is a sweet, adorable puppy with a whole lot of love and personality waiting to shine. At approximately 7 months old and around 37 pounds, he is still growing and discovering the world around him.

With his pretty brown fur and irresistibly cute face, Pluto is sure to turn heads, but it’s his playful personality that really makes him special. He loves playing with other dogs and is always happy to discover a fun toy. Having canine friends around is a great way for Pluto to burn some of his puppy energy and build confidence.

Pluto can be a little shy when he first meets someone, but give him a little time and patience, and he warms up quickly. Once he feels comfortable, his sweet and playful personality starts to shine. His owner will need to be committed to proper socialization.

Pluto is also neutered and up to date on his vaccinations, so he is ready to begin the next chapter of his life with his forever family.

Like any growing rescue puppy, Pluto will need a family who understands that bringing a puppy home is a commitment. He will benefit from continued positive-reinforcement training, regular exercise, socialization, and a consistent daily routine. His new family should be prepared for the joys and challenges of puppyhood and willing to give him the guidance, patience, and structure he needs to grow into a confident, well-mannered adult dog.

19. Roxy

Senior · Female · Rat Terrier / Mixed · 33 mi from Locust

Meet Roxy! 15 years young and still full of love to give!Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn, and through no fault of her own, sweet Roxy finds herself looking for a new place to call home. Roxy was surrendered by a family who loved her dearly, and while starting over at 15 years old isn’t easy, she has so much love left to give to the right family.Roxy is a sweet, affectionate girl whose favorite place to be is right by your side. She’s happiest simply being near her people, soaking up all the love and attention she can get. Don’t let her age fool you, though! She still enjoys the occasional play session with her favorite toys, but what she especially loves is spending time with her dog friends.Roxy gets along wonderfully with both dogs and cats, making her a lovely addition to a home with other furry companions.

Read more about Roxy

She’s more of a homebody and can be nervous in unfamiliar environments or out in public. Car rides aren’t exactly her idea of a good time either! She isn’t difficult in the car, but she does tend to shake and sometimes whine throughout the ride. A cozy home and a predictable routine are much more her speed. When meeting new people, Roxy can be a little shy and skittish at first. She just needs some time, patience, and reassurance to feel comfortable. But once she lets you into her heart, get ready for a little shadow! She becomes incredibly attached to her people and would happily spend her days following you from room to room.As far as her medical history goes, Roxy has an asymptomatic grade 2 heart murmur and mild arthritis. Otherwise, she’s doing wonderfully for a girl her age! She also has a little skin tag on her face, which is purely cosmetic and causes her no medical issues. And honestly, Roxy knows she’s adorable with or without it!Roxy may be 15, but she still has plenty of cuddles, companionship, and love to offer. She’s not looking for grand adventures or a busy lifestyle. She just wants a soft place to land, a family to call her own, and someone who will let her spend her golden years feeling safe, loved, and cherished.Applications can be filled out at www.piedmontanimalrescue.com/adopt! Adopting a dog in Locust

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
