1. Cali

Young (11 months) · Female · Belgian Shepherd Malinois / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 2 mi from Morrisville

Meet Cali!
❤️

Sweet, smart, loving, and always ready to make a new friend — that’s Cali!

Cali is the kind of dog who makes it easy to fall in love with her. She absolutely loves people and welcomes new friends with a happy, friendly personality. But what makes Cali really special is her desire to please and her genuine love of being loved.

Read more about Cali

She is housebroken, crate trained, and wonderfully well behaved. Cali is comfortable spending a normal workday in her crate and settles in beautifully, making her a great companion for someone who works outside the home. She is also a relatively quiet girl, so she doesn't need to be the center of attention all the time.

Cali is smart and eager to learn. She has attended training classes with her foster canine brothers and did exceptionally well. She already knows her basic commands and picks up new things quickly. Her foster family has been impressed by how much she wants to please.

She also has a wonderful history with both dogs and young children. When she was first found, Cali lived with two Australian Shepherds and did very well with them. She also spent two months living with children ages 3 and 5 and was terrific with them. She takes everyday noises and activity in stride.

Cali enjoys a good walk and is excellent on leash, but she also loves having a yard where she can explore and enjoy herself. She would be happy in a home with a fenced yard, but she could also do well without one as long as she gets regular walks and exercise.

Cali would be perfectly happy as an only dog, but she really enjoys canine companionship, so she'd also love having a doggy friend. She has not yet been exposed to cats, so that would be something to consider when finding her perfect home.

Most of all, Cali wants a family to love and a family who will love her back. She is affectionate, adaptable, eager to please, and just an all-around wonderful girl. Whether you're looking for a walking buddy, a training partner, a couch companion, or simply a loving member of the family, Cali is ready to be your girl.

Cali is ready to find the people she can love for the rest of her life. Could that be you? ❤️

2. Tiki

Puppy (4 months 17 days) · Plott Hound · 2 mi from Morrisville

NOTE: Tiki is a courtesy listed dog. Best Friend Pet Adoption is helping to find a home for this handsome dog. Please do not submit an application to Best Friend Pet Adoption. For more information about this dog, please contact winfield.beverley@gmail.com.

Tiki is a world traveler and has frequent flyer miles already! He came all the way from St. Croix with a dream to find his forever family. Could you give this cute guy his dream come true??

Read more about Tiki

Tiki is a fast learner and loves to play with other dogs. He looks forward to seeing his friends at doggie day care. He has been around cats and wants to play with them. Tiki could live with other dogs or could be an only dog.

He can be a bit timid around new people but once he realizes that he is safe, he will be your friend. Very young children tend to make him wary. He would do best with older children. He will cuddle some, but isn’t a lap dog, though he loves to hang out with his people.

He would love a fenced yard but would be fine being on a leash for walks and his potty breaks. Since Tiki can be vocal at times, he would not be suited for apartment living.

Tiki is almost totally house broken when taken out for potty breaks regularly. He is used to being in a puppy pen when he is left alone.

He likes car rides and going places. He is full of energy and likes to play, so would be great for an active home. If you are ready to toss a ball or run around with him, please contact Beverley at winfield.beverley@gmail.com.

DISCLAIMER: We hope you'll consider adopting Tiki. He is a courtesy listed dog. This means that the dog is not a part of or associated with Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA). The bio information listed for Tiki was provided by his owner/rescuer and not generated or verified by BFPA. Adoption arrangements will be a private arrangement between you and the owner/rescuer. As with any dog adoption, BFPA encourages potential adopters to gain as much information as possible before adopting. This includes temperament testing and verification of vet records to ensure the dog is in good health, up to date on vaccinations and has been sterilized. 3. Bruno

Adult (6 years) · Male · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 2 mi from Morrisville

Meet Bruno! At 6 years old, Bruno has the perfect balance of playful energy and laidback companionship. He's been waiting far too long for his forever family, and everyone who knows him agrees—it's finally his turn. This handsome, happy boy weighs about 65 pounds and has an infectious smile that's impossible to resist.

With one ear standing tall and the other adorably flopped over, Bruno is as unique on the outside as he is on the inside. While he isn't exactly lap dog sized, don't tell him that! He loves being close to his people, soaking up affection, handing out sweet kisses, and claiming his favorite spot right beside you on the couch.

Read more about Bruno

Bruno has settled beautifully into foster care and has shown everyone what makes him such a special companion. He's fully house trained, crate trained, and is perfectly content relaxing in his crate when left home alone. Around the house, he's an easygoing guy who enjoys lounging on the couch, chewing on a frozen treat, or entertaining himself with his toy collection. His absolute favorite? A Lamb Chop stuffie!

Bruno would thrive as the only dog in his home, where he can soak up all the love and attention. While he's not looking for a busy multi-dog household, he has shown that he can enjoy the company of respectful female dogs. He has made several female dog friends and loves having supervised play sessions with them, as long as they respect his pace and personal space. Because of this, we'd be happy to discuss a home with the right easygoing female dog, but Bruno's ideal match is a family where he can be the center of attention.

He enjoys walks and does well on leash, though he's still working on polishing his leash manners when he gets excited. He also loves chasing thrown toys, even if bringing them back is still a work in progress! Due to his size and enthusiastic personality, Bruno would do best in a home with children ages 10 and older. Bruno has spent far too much time waiting for someone to choose him.

At 6 years old, he's past the puppy chaos but still has plenty of life, love, and playful moments to share. He's ready for a family that will appreciate his goofy personality, loyal heart, and love of life's simple pleasures—like couch cuddles, stuffed toys, and spending time with his favorite humans.

DISCLAIMER: We hope you'll consider adopting BRUNO. He is listed as a courtesy. This means that he is not a part of or associated with Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA). The bio information listed for BRUNO was provided by individual caregivers and not generated or verified by BFPA. Adoption arrangements will be a private arrangement between you and Underhoundrailroad.org. As with any dog adoption, BFPA encourages potential adopters to gain as much information as possible before adopting. If you have any questions about Bruno, please contact

adoptions@underhoundrailroad.org.

Bruno is currently fostered in South Carolina and can be transported along the East Coast as far north as Maine to his forever family. If you think Bruno could be the missing piece of your family, apply today at https://underhoundrailroad.org/adoption-application/. Bruno's adoption fee has been generously sponsored! 5. Morpheus

Senior · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 12 mi from Morrisville

Do you need a buddy? A buddy for you? A buddy for your dog? A buddy for your older kiddo? This guy is the best at being a buddy! Morpheus is not only handsome, he's cuddly and adorable. He would love to hang out next to you on the couch, sleep with you in the bed (stairs please, if your bed is kinda high), and just be near. He loves belly rubs and snuggles and chin chucks. He rides great in the car, and he's pretty good on leash as well. He's house trained and is crate trained, but has free roam of his current foster home, along with his three foster brothers. He lives a quiet life with low key dogs, but every once in a while he'll get goofy and start rolling around on the floor like a big dork, making all kinds of happy sounds.

Read more about Morpheus

When he's displeased, he'll yodel a little, full disclosure. But it's not long-lived. He just wants to be around his people. So if you're looking for the easiest guy to have around, Morpheus is that guy. He might be a senior, but he's still got a lot of life and love to give. 6. Zeus

Senior · Male · Shar Pei / Mixed · 12 mi from Morrisville

Have you always wanted a cat, but only had room in your home for a dog? Then have we got the guy for you! Zeus is a swinging single senior with a lot of life to live. His favorite things are to rub against your legs, walk in front of you in zig zags while you're trying to move in a straight line, and curl up and snooze on a random blanket in a dark room. Oh, and he's EXTREMELY food and treat motivated! To add to the cat mystique, he's almost completely deaf, so ignoring you is kind of a character trait. He's house trained, allowed to free roam but can be crated if needed, and will also let you know if he needs to go outside.

Read more about Zeus

He's at least part Sharpei, so he has those cute little mouse ears, a rougher coat, and a spotted tongue. And he has these little gray patches of fur under his eyes that create a seriously adorable expression. He will follow you around the house, but will settle in and relax at your feet. He can manage a few steps, but more than that might be difficult on a regular basis. He has a few favorite toys (including a couple stuffies and a jolly ball) that he'll randomly play with. But his main thing is being around his people. He's neutered and heartworm negative, ready to join a new home for his next chapter. We'd love to see this gent have the best rest of his life. I-Hop is an adorable pup full joy and love - and he is waiting to spend forever with you! He absolutely adores being held and snuggled up close. If your ideal day involves throwing a tennis ball, playing with a flirt pole, and giving out endless belly rubs, we are going to get along great!I am a high-energy guy who loves to stay busy. I'm fully house-trained and completely comfortable in my crate, so I promise to be a very good boy in the house.

Puppy · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / Bulldog / Mixed · 15 mi from Morrisville

Meet Amelia, One of Our Georgia Girls!Amelia is approximately 6 months old, weighs around 20 pounds, and is an American Pit Bull Terrier/Bulldog mix. She is one of our very special Georgia girls, and she's looking for a forever home alongside her sister and best friend, Bessie! If there's one thing you should know about Amelia, it's that this girl is DETERMINED! Amelia was born with significant physical abnormalities that affect her mobility, but she doesn't let that stop her from trying to get where she wants to go. She moves by pushing with her back legs and scooting her front half along the floor.

Read more about Amelia

Her front legs are splayed outward and provide very little support. She's not going to win any races, but she certainly gets an A for effort!Amelia is the more adventurous of the two sisters. She loves toys, enjoys playing tug-of-war with her people, and absolutely adores snuggling. At the end of the day, there's nothing better than being curled up on the couch with someone who loves her.A Little About Her Special NeedsAmelia and Bessie were born with significant mobility challenges. X-rays revealed abnormalities in the alignment of their skulls and spines that affect their ability to move normally. Their veterinarians cannot predict whether these abnormalities will affect their lifespans or lead to complications in the future. What we do know is that Amelia is currently comfortable, happy, and not experiencing pain. Her condition has remained stable while she's been in our care.Amelia can potty on her own and will scoot away afterward, but she cannot get to a pee pad independently, so she'll need help staying clean. She sometimes wears diapers. She eats kibble softened with water to make mealtimes easier. Most of her day is spent relaxing in a comfortable bed, playing with her toys, enjoying attention, and keeping her sister company. She needs help being carried or transported for longer distances. We're also exploring the possibility of a custom wheelchair to give her additional mobility.Amelia does well with other dogs and would likely enjoy a home with gentle, respectful children. She doesn't need a fenced yard or a particular type of home, just a safe environment, someone willing to accommodate her mobility needs, and plenty of love. Two Sisters, One Forever HomeAmelia and Bessie have been together their entire lives, and their bond is incredibly important. Because of their limited mobility, they provide companionship and comfort for each other throughout the day. They must be adopted together.PIPs Special Care AdoptionAmelia and Bessie are being offered through our PIPs Special Care Adoption program. There is no adoption fee for the girls, and PIPs will remain a lifelong partner in their care.Their adopter will be responsible for everyday expenses, including food, supplies, preventatives, routine vaccinations, and wellness visits. PIPs will help cover major medical needs related to their disabilities, with the specific arrangements discussed and agreed upon before adoption. The girls are current on their vaccinations. They are not spayed because of veterinary concerns regarding anesthesia and surgery, and their future surgical care will need to be discussed individually. We don't know what the future holds for Amelia and Bessie. They may have years ahead of them, or their medical conditions may eventually create challenges we cannot predict. What we do know is that they deserve a family who will love them for however long that may be.Amelia doesn't need a perfect home. Adult · Male · Poodle (unknown type) / Mixed · 15 mi from Morrisville

Meet Stevie! He may be a tiny 8-pound poodle mix, but he has a big personality and plenty of spunk! His limited vision doesn’t stop him from enjoying life. He loves being outside, exploring the yard, going for walks, and taking in all the interesting smells around him.Because Stevie is partially blind, he needs a little extra consideration when meeting people and moving through his surroundings. He can be startled if someone approaches him without warning, so simply talking to him as you come near lets him know you’re there and helps him feel safe. Slow introductions and a predictable routine are important as he gets to know his new surroundings and his people.Stevie is also quite the conversationalist! If the house gets too quiet for too long, you may hear him talking to you because he wants to know where his people are.

Read more about Stevie

He loves being near his humans and is happiest when he knows they’re close by. When you’re busy, though, Stevie is perfectly content to curl up for a nap in a sunny spot, beside you, in his cozy bed, or in his crate.Because of his partial blindness and his need for gentle, predictable interactions, Stevie would likely do best in a home without young children. Young children can move quickly and unpredictably, which may startle him and make it difficult for him to feel secure. The good news - Stevie is house trained and crate trained! Once he learns your routine and knows he can trust you, he settles into life beautifully. If you’re looking for a little dog with a big personality who will happily keep you company, Stevie just might be your guy.

14. Penny Lane

Adult · Female · Dachshund / Mixed · 15 mi from Morrisville

Meet Penny: Professional Cuddler, Side-Eye Specialist & Wheelchair Queen Penny is a 4-year-old Dachshund mix with a big personality packed into one adorable little body. Penny has IVDD and is paralyzed in her back legs, but please don’t tell her she’s supposed to let that slow her down - she certainly didn’t get the memo.Penny maneuvers around the house incredibly well on her own and has a wheelchair that she LOVES for walks and adventures. She also rides beautifully in the car, making her the perfect little copilot for someone who wants a sidekick to tag along. When Penny first meets someone, she can be a little nervous and needs a moment to decide whether you’re worthy of joining her inner circle.

Read more about Penny Lane

Fortunately, the application process is pretty quick. Once she warms up, Penny is an affectionate little Stage 5 Clinger who wants nothing more than to be close to her people. Couch? She’s there. Bed? Obviously. Going to another room for 30 seconds? Penny would like to know why she wasn’t consulted.Because Penny loves her humans so much, her ideal home would be one where someone is around fairly often. She tolerates a crate when necessary, but if Penny were writing this profile herself, she would like it formally documented that she does not recommend crates and feels there are much better places to spend her time - preferably wherever you are. Other dogs? Yes! Penny does well with other dogs when given slow, structured introductions that allow her to feel safe and comfortable. Cats? Also yes. Penny currently lives with a household cat and mostly ignores him. He believes he runs the house, and Penny has apparently decided it isn’t worth the paperwork to challenge him.Because of her paralysis, Penny does not have control over when she urinates or has a bowel movement. She needs her bladder expressed, but she is very easy to express, and she and her foster family have her routine down to a science. Once you learn her schedule and care routine, it simply becomes part of the day. What Penny needs may look a little different from the average dog, but what she wants is incredibly simple: Her people nearby A comfy place to snuggle Walks in her wheels Car rides and adventures Patience while she gets to know you Someone who will love her exactly as she isPenny doesn’t know that she’s a “special needs dog.” She knows that she can get where she wants to go, that her wheelchair means ADVENTURE, and that humans were clearly invented for cuddling. If you’ve been looking for a loyal little shadow with a whole lot of personality, Penny might just be your girl.

Adopting a dog in Morrisville

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
