11. Dolly

Senior (7 years 11 months) · Female · Shih Tzu / Mixed (long coat) · 22 mi from Sharpsburg

Meet Dolly ❤️

Dolly is a tiny Shih-Tzu girl who has already been through far more than she ever should have. She came to Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue as a stray from Guilford County, flea-infested and missing much of her beautiful fur. Despite the neglect she endured, Dolly is still a sweet little girl who deserves nothing but love, patience, and kindness from here on out.

Read more about Dolly

Dolly is estimated to be about 8 years old. She is currently receiving the veterinary care she desperately needed when she arrived. One of our biggest concerns is that Dolly appears to be blind, so she will need a patient and understanding family who can help her feel safe and secure as she learns to navigate her new world.

But being blind doesn't mean Dolly doesn't have plenty of love to give. ❤️ She is a precious little soul who deserves to spend the rest of her life knowing what it feels like to be safe, cherished, and truly loved.

Because of her age and possible vision impairment, Dolly would do best in a quiet, calm home with someone who understands that senior and special-needs dogs may need a little extra time and patience. We are looking for someone who will see past her physical challenges and recognize the wonderful little dog underneath.

Dolly didn't choose to be neglected or abandoned. She didn't ask to arrive at rescue in poor condition. But she now has a chance at the happy ending she deserves.

Could you be Dolly's forever family? ❤️

Dolly is available for adoption through Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue. If you can't adopt but would like to help Dolly and the other medically needy senior dogs in our care, donations are always greatly appreciated.

Adoption applications: https://rainbowbridgerescue.org/applications/

Help support Dolly's medical care:

Please share Dolly's story. Her forever person may be out there waiting to find her. ❤️

13. Elvis

Senior (8 years) · Male · Chihuahua (short coat) · 22 mi from Sharpsburg

Meet Elvis… a tiny senior with a big personality who needs your help ❤️

Everyone, say hello to Elvis — an adorable little 11-year-old Chihuahua who has recently come into the care of Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue. While he may be tiny, this little guy has been through a lot and is counting on us to help him get the care he deserves.

Elvis is looking for a special home that understands his needs. He does not do well with children, but he does enjoy the company of small dogs after a proper introduction. Like many senior dogs we take in, Elvis has some medical needs that we now have to address.

Read more about Elvis

Our sweet boy is up to date with his shots and neutered, and he is also dealing with a luxating patella, a condition affecting his knee that can cause discomfort and mobility issues. He also recently had a dental. As always, we are committed to making sure Elvis gets the veterinary care he needs so he can have comfort, stability, and hopefully find the perfect forever home.

He is available for adoption, and the adoption fee is $300; we do not transport dogs. Must be located in the Raleigh and surrounding area.

15. Archie

Young · Male · Terrier / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed · 35 mi from Sharpsburg

(DOB 10/14/2026) Archie is the little guy that is big on personality, spunk, and smiles! Always ready for a photo-op, Archie is a happy-go-lucky social butterfly who has never met a stranger. He’s full of energy, loves to play (especially with his favorite Lamb Chop toy!), and is happiest when he’s right alongside his people. He enjoys other dogs, follows his foster mom wherever she goes, and once he’s burned off his zoomies, he's all about couch snuggles and a well-deserved nap.Archie is already crate trained, walks nicely on a leash, and is mastering his house manners. He sleeps in his crate at night and stays there while his foster mom is away.

Read more about Archie

He may protest a little when it's crate time, but a cozy blanket and favorite toy help him settle quickly. He's a little chatty in the car, too and will let you know he's there the whole time. One thing worth knowing, Archie is quite the conversationalist, so apartment living probably isn't his style. Plus, he wants a yard with a fence to romp and run around in!Archie would love an active family ready for playtime, adventures, plenty of attention, and lots of affection. If you're looking for a cheerful little sidekick with a big smile, an even bigger personality, and plenty to say, Archie is ready to make himself right at home!As part of Archie’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If everything goes well and you and the foster agree that the PIP you want to adopt is a good fit, we will then finalize the adoption. Adoption fees are $325 for adults and $375 for puppies. All dogs will be up to date on age appropriate vaccines and spayed / neutered if old enough. If not old enough adopters can come back to our vet to have it covered in fee. Adopting a dog in Sharpsburg

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
