2. Lulu
Adult · Female · Collie (medium coat)

Lulu is an expert at chillin’, maxin’ and relaxin’. When she first discovered comfort, she found her bliss — and she has no intention of giving it up! On her first day in her foster home, she immediately jumped on the couch, rolled over onto her back and fell asleep. She loves to be next to her person, soaking up all the petting she can get. Learning new commands? Let’s just say it takes a little persuasion to convince Lulu to interrupt her relaxation routine.

Lulu loves her person so much that she sometimes feels the need to play bodyguard, barking when someone approaches. She has to be instructed to stop, and then all is well. She responds well to being corrected. Lulu loves women, while men and children need to earn her trust.
Which one of us can’t relate to a dog who loves her comfort and takes her time before letting some people into her inner circle of trust? Right now, Lulu is probably snoozing on the sofa, happily dreaming of her forever home filled with lots of petting and creature, er, doggie, comforts.

3. Morgan
Young · Female · Collie (medium coat)

Exuberant, jubilant and happy — that’s Morgan! This 9-month-old collie is looking for his forever home. He is a true puppy at heart, full of energy and wanting to be wherever the action is, but he’s also great at entertaining himself. Morgan will gleefully empty the entire toy basket over and over again, keeping you on your toes.
Read more about Morgan
Morgan loves everyone and everything. He’s currently in a foster home with a pack of dogs, finding his place and learning acceptable behavior on a daily basis. His foster family is working on “sit” and “wait,” and he is motivated to learn as long as his person is nearby and treats are involved! Morgan absolutely loves the outdoors and will circle the entire yard at a sprinter’s pace. In fact, he especially loves a good game of chase, so he would likely do best in a home with a fenced-in yard and another dog buddy to play with.
When this fun-loving, playful guy needs rest, he will happily settle down for belly rubs and attention. Like all puppies, Morgan likes to chew and will need supervision until he outgrows this behavior. Luckily, he loves his crate and does great in it when he’s home alone.
This sweet pup is a true gem, and with continued training, Morgan will be a great addition to a loving home.

4. Daisy
Adult · Female · Collie (medium coat)

Sweet Daisy is a 6-year-old sable and white rough collie with a gentle heart. Her foster family describes her as shy and a bit nervous at first, but she warms up quickly to people with love and attention. In fact, she feels so safe and comfortable around her foster mom that she needs to be taught a bit about boundaries and personal space. She prefers to be RIGHT beside her human at all times, enjoying gentle pets and cuddles. A true couch potato, Daisy is currently somewhat overweight, so her foster family is helping her stay on track by encouraging daily walks and regular exercise as part of her routine. As an adult dog, she already knows most of her commands but is eager to please and motivated to learn more.
Read more about Daisy
Daisy would likely do best in a calm adult-only home where she can be the only pet. She is somewhat anxious and cautious around the other dogs in the house. Daisy is protective of her food and prefers to have her own space, especially at mealtimes. Outdoors, Daisy prefers to be alone rather than play with the other dogs. The presence of her foster family and their reassurance keeps her calm, and she already knows she can trust them and feels safe. With some tender loving care and a patient home, Daisy’s foster family believes she has all the makings of a devoted and affectionate companion.

He is currently working on his sit and come commands and is eager to please. He loves spending time outdoors, sniffing around the yard before settling in for some playtime, and Zane especially enjoys his walks!

7. Hannah
Puppy · Female · Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie / Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat)

Hannah is 6 mths old
Gorgeous Hannah has the personality to match her looks! This playful girl can amuse herself with her toys for hours and also loves spending time outdoors. But when you settle in on the couch, she gladly settles down with you. She can be goofy and silly one minute, but Hannah can also be relaxed.
Hannah does enjoy her food and treats. However, if it’s something she values highly, she will resource guard. She doesn’t like pushy dogs and will let them know when they’re crossing the line with her. Hannah couldn’t care less about cats — she has no interest at all.
Read more about Hannah
She came to her foster not knowing any commands, so she’s in the process of learning. After all, she is still a puppy and that’s what they do! When Hannah sees someone new, she just has to say “hi.” She’s happy to socialize with dogs, as long as they respect her boundaries.
Happy Hannah is waiting for her person to come say “hi” and hang out with her. Might that be you?

8. Chica
Senior · Female · Smooth Collie (medium coat)

Chica is 8 yrs old
Chica is a beautiful smooth collie whose personality is the epitome of sweet and gentle. “Calm, quiet and sniffs” describe her interactions with just about everyone, and she will fit easily into a loving forever home. She gets along well with the resident dogs, happily wagging her tail to let them know she’s ready to engage. She’s also calm with cats and children. Although Chica enjoys other dogs, her favorite companions are her people. She’s wisely a little reserved with strangers, but once she gets to know you, she’s happy to cuddle and be petted.
Read more about Chica
Chica enjoys the outdoors, quickly taking care of “business” before exploring the yard or going after a toy when it’s thrown and she’s told to “get it.” Not all collies play with toys, and even fewer play fetch, but Chica loves it! She also understands “go potty” and “go to crate.” Chica is easygoing and quiet. Even at the age of 8, she’ll surprise you with a delightful burst of zoomies, perhaps just her way of showing us all how happy she is to be alive and spending time with her humans and her canine friends. As her foster has said, “She’s just an awesome dog!”

9. Peanut
Puppy (8 months) · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat)

DOB: 1/18/2026
Hi there, I’m Peanut!
I’m a Chihuahua mix puppy and pretty much everything in the world is brand new and exciting to me. I’ve got a whole lot of energy packed into my little body and I love to run and play and explore. But here’s my secret. When the playing is done, all I really want to do is climb into your lap and snuggle up close. I’m a serious cuddle bug.
I follow my foster mom everywhere she goes. Kitchen, couch, you name it, I’m right behind her like a tiny shadow. And when it’s mealtime I sit and wait so patiently because I already know good things come to puppies who are sweet.

I get along with just about everybody. The kittens, the older cats, the big dogs, I love them all and I just want to be friends. I think the world is a wonderful place full of people and animals to love. I also love going to new places and seeing new things. Adventure is my middle name.
I’m doing really well with my crate training and my potty training too. I’m even learning to ring a little bell when I need to go outside, and I’d love a person who keeps helping me get really good at it.
At the end of the day I curl up with my foster family and my foster sibling and I feel so safe and happy. That’s all I want for the rest of my life. Someone to love, a warm spot to snuggle into, and a few new adventures along the way.

How to adopt from Colony Cats (& dogs)
We have an application that requires the potential adopter to wait until their application can be verified. Once everything checks out the adopter comes and picks up their new fur member of the family and signs a contract. One of the highlights of our contract states that if for ANY reason at ANY time they cannot care for the animal, they must return the cat or dog back to Colony Cats (& dogs). Our adoption fees are $125 for kittens 6 months and younger; $75 for kittens over 6 months and adults up to 7 years; $50 for 7 years and older. If adopting 2 kittens/cats at the same time there is a $25 discount. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, Feline Leukemia and FIV tested (cats), heartworm tested (dogs), microchip, flea prevention, vaccinations (FVRCP for cats and DHLPP for dogs), rabies vaccine (if kittens or puppies are old enough to receive a rabies vaccine). If not, the new owner will need to go to their vet to get this done.

Adopting a dog in Franklin County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
