2. Bojangles

Young · Male · Hound / Mountain Cur / Mixed (short coat)

My name is Bojangles! But you can call me Bo. I'm a Hound/Mountain Cur? I'm 3 years old, 44 pounds. Low to medium energy. His foster parents are still learning with Bo, but this is what we know so far:

I'm housetrained and appropriate chewer.

Bojangles isn't fond of the crate. But working on it.

My foster parents can run errands and he's ok to left out.

Walking at Parks are a bit much for Bo with bikes and other dogs. He can be leash reactive when startled or approaching dogs. A quieter area is better with less foot traffic.

Bo loves car rides. Good in the car.

Good with children. Cats unknown.

3. Bagel

Young · Female · Beagle (short coat)

Hi, I'm Bagel ~4 year old female Beagle. I was picked up “running errands” outside a Family Dollar down in Athens. The folks at PAWS transported me to Columbus, where I have been living the good life with my foster family.

So far they say I am sweet, a little reserved, but starting to open up after 2 weeks of routine and stability. I love to snuggle up on the couch, or go for a walk. I'm good with kids and other dogs. I met a cat at the vet's office and was curious but cautious.

Read more about Bagel

I will do the hound howl in my crate for maybe 10 min then settle when the humans are gone. They think I might be ok left alone out of my crate too, I'm pretty chill. I'm still working on potty training, but my foster family says I'm 90% there, which for two weeks in a new place is very good. I am treat motivated....if you have the right treats (meaty are my favorite), and I love praise/pats from people.

I am looking for someone who will be patient as I warms up and then I will be your constant companion!

Bagel is currently going through treatment for heartworm, but can be still be adopted during this time if the adopter is onboard for taking her to all her appointments (paid for by PAWS @ our vet) and following exercise restrictions.

4. Roma

Female · Hound / Labrador Retriever / Mixed

Hi there, my name is Roma! I’m a female hound looking mixed breed and weigh about 55 pounds. I am about 4 years old and my foster mom says that I’m pretty much a perfect pup! I walk well on a leash, I’m potty trained, crate trained (though I also do fine left alone outside of the crate), good with other dogs and small humans, and just the sweetest girl. I also like to play with toys, especially the squeaky ones!

Read more about Roma

I was found as a stray running in the woods and unfortunately picked up a couple treatable diseases while there, one of them being heart worm. What this means is that I have a couple months or more of treatment I need to go through, which includes being on a strict exercise restriction during this time. I understand that this might make it hard for me to be picked right now, but I really wanted to see if my forever family is out there. My foster parents say I’m well worth it! I am currently available for foster to adopt so PAWS will cover all treatment costs with our vet. I am truly so sweet and loving and I promise to make you smile everyday!

5. Lulu

Adult · Female · Collie (medium coat)

Lulu is an expert at chillin’, maxin’ and relaxin’. When she first discovered comfort, she found her bliss — and she has no intention of giving it up! On her first day in her foster home, she immediately jumped on the couch, rolled over onto her back and fell asleep. She loves to be next to her person, soaking up all the petting she can get. Learning new commands? Let’s just say it takes a little persuasion to convince Lulu to interrupt her relaxation routine.

Read more about Lulu

Lulu loves her person so much that she sometimes feels the need to play bodyguard, barking when someone approaches. She has to be instructed to stop, and then all is well. She responds well to being corrected. Lulu loves women, while men and children need to earn her trust.

Which one of us can’t relate to a dog who loves her comfort and takes her time before letting some people into her inner circle of trust? Right now, Lulu is probably snoozing on the sofa, happily dreaming of her forever home filled with lots of petting and creature, er, doggie, comforts.

6. Morgan

Young · Female · Collie (medium coat)

Exuberant, jubilant and happy — that’s Morgan! This 9-month-old collie is looking for his forever home. He is a true puppy at heart, full of energy and wanting to be wherever the action is, but he’s also great at entertaining himself. Morgan will gleefully empty the entire toy basket over and over again, keeping you on your toes.

Read more about Morgan

Morgan loves everyone and everything. He’s currently in a foster home with a pack of dogs, finding his place and learning acceptable behavior on a daily basis. His foster family is working on “sit” and “wait,” and he is motivated to learn as long as his person is nearby and treats are involved! Morgan absolutely loves the outdoors and will circle the entire yard at a sprinter’s pace. In fact, he especially loves a good game of chase, so he would likely do best in a home with a fenced-in yard and another dog buddy to play with.

When this fun-loving, playful guy needs rest, he will happily settle down for belly rubs and attention. Like all puppies, Morgan likes to chew and will need supervision until he outgrows this behavior. Luckily, he loves his crate and does great in it when he’s home alone.

This sweet pup is a true gem, and with continued training, Morgan will be a great addition to a loving home.

7. Daisy

Adult · Female · Collie (medium coat)

Sweet Daisy is a 6-year-old sable and white rough collie with a gentle heart. Her foster family describes her as shy and a bit nervous at first, but she warms up quickly to people with love and attention. In fact, she feels so safe and comfortable around her foster mom that she needs to be taught a bit about boundaries and personal space. She prefers to be RIGHT beside her human at all times, enjoying gentle pets and cuddles. A true couch potato, Daisy is currently somewhat overweight, so her foster family is helping her stay on track by encouraging daily walks and regular exercise as part of her routine. As an adult dog, she already knows most of her commands but is eager to please and motivated to learn more.

Read more about Daisy

Daisy would likely do best in a calm adult-only home where she can be the only pet. She is somewhat anxious and cautious around the other dogs in the house. Daisy is protective of her food and prefers to have her own space, especially at mealtimes. Outdoors, Daisy prefers to be alone rather than play with the other dogs. The presence of her foster family and their reassurance keeps her calm, and she already knows she can trust them and feels safe. With some tender loving care and a patient home, Daisy’s foster family believes she has all the makings of a devoted and affectionate companion.

10. Hannah

Puppy · Female · Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie / Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat)

Hannah is 6 mths old

Gorgeous Hannah has the personality to match her looks! This playful girl can amuse herself with her toys for hours and also loves spending time outdoors. But when you settle in on the couch, she gladly settles down with you. She can be goofy and silly one minute, but Hannah can also be relaxed.

Hannah does enjoy her food and treats. However, if it’s something she values highly, she will resource guard. She doesn’t like pushy dogs and will let them know when they’re crossing the line with her. Hannah couldn’t care less about cats — she has no interest at all.

Read more about Hannah

She came to her foster not knowing any commands, so she’s in the process of learning. After all, she is still a puppy and that’s what they do! When Hannah sees someone new, she just has to say “hi.” She’s happy to socialize with dogs, as long as they respect her boundaries.

Happy Hannah is waiting for her person to come say “hi” and hang out with her. Might that be you?

11. Otto

Young · Male · Pointer / Mixed (short coat)

Hi there, I’m Otto! I’m an 11-month-old hound/pointer pup. I am currently 42 lbs. here is some more info about me:

-Great with other dogs!

-Skittish in new places and around new people. All siblings from this litter were more fearful of men but is not aggressive- just will probably be more comfortable with females initially. Once he gets to know you, he is very snuggly and sweet.

-He would do best in a home with another dog that is friendly around people and confident on leash to help him. Outdoor adventures with a dog friend would be good for him.

Read more about Otto

-Crate trained. Is crated next to Sallie at least 4 days a week for 8 hours per day. He will probably be fine loose eventually, but he still occasionally chomps on things like most adolescent dogs.

-Did well with his cat test. Disengaged from the cat easily and was more interested in finding cat food.

-Rides well in the car. Occasionally will bark when he sees something out the window.

-Housetrained (but you do have to pay attention to him)

-He is a good boy!

12. Prongs

Young · Male · German Shorthaired Pointer / Mixed (short coat)

Hi I’m Prongs! I’m at 7-8 month GSP mix and I’m looking for a home! I’m located in Cincinnati but I can be adopted in Columbus or here! I’m good with other dogs and got rescued with another dog named Padfoot! I have 2 brothers also with PAWS too! I like cats, they’re pretty interesting but I leave them alone once they’ve had enough of me. I’m a shy guy but I love people once I get to know them. I’d do better with older kids or calm younger ones as loud noises and sudden movements scare me. My favorite thing to do is lay in the grass out in the backyard so if you have a fenced in backyard, that would be awesome! But if you don’t that’s alright too! I’m learning to be in a home again as I’ve been a stray and haven’t been taught anything.

I’m working on some commands, potty training, and walking on a leash. I like to go to the door when I need to go potty to let my foster mom know I need to go out. I do sleep in the crate when my foster family leaves and goes to bed but I do like to express my concerns and opinions for a little bit before I settle down. I really prefer a bed. I’m the sweetest guy and I will love you forever! If you’re looking for a new pup to add to your family, please consider me!

13. Lambchop Tuscarawas

Puppy (5 months 24 days) · Male · Poodle (Miniature) (medium coat)

Meet Lambchop! This adorable pup has a big personality and a wonderful mix of playful energy and lap-loving sweetness. Lambchop’s favorite things include squeaky toys, crinkle toys, fetch, tug-of-war, and zoomies around the backyard. Once he’s worn himself out, he’s happy to curl up on your lap for cuddles. Friendly and outgoing, Lambchop enjoys being around people and does well with other dogs, cats, and children over 8. A companion dog isn’t required, provided he has people who have plenty of time for play, attention, and puppy adventures. Lambchop is making great progress with housetraining and signals when he needs to go outside.

Read more about Lambchop Tuscarawas

His new family should continue a consistent potty routine and expect occasional accidents as he learns. He currently eats three meals a day and is always enthusiastic about treats! Leash walking is still a work in progress. Some days he’s eager to try, while other days he prefers backyard fetch. A securely fenced physical yard is required so he has a safe place to run and play while he builds confidence on walks. Loud noises can make him unsure, so his new family should focus on this area with patience and understanding. A calm, supportive home that can gently help him build confidence and feel secure will be the best fit for Lambchop. Lambchop has no known medical issues. His ideal family will embrace his puppy energy and provide daily exercise, positive-reinforcement training, and plenty of love as he grows. If your idea of a great day includes backyard games, puppy antics, and a tired little dog curled up in your lap, Lambchop might be your perfect match! Lamb chops adoption fee is $750, and he is being fostered in central Ohio. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines, and started on heartworm, flea, and tick prevention.

Adult · Male · Unknown breed (short coat)

I’m Ziggy, a 7 year old heeler/terrier mix and would really like a dog buddy to play with! I weigh 75 pounds and don’t know my size, so when I get excited, I may be a bit sturdy for small dogs or young kids. I really like fetching tennis balls, playing tug-o-war and being around people. I know some commands like sit, shake, down, and would love to learn more. I’m easily bribe-able with treats! When I’m done playing, I like to be a couch potato and will snuggle next to you. I do all my business outside and never had an accident in the house. I don’t like the crate or being confined, but I am trustworthy enough to be left out while my humans aren’t home. I also like car rides and will hop right in. The dogtor did a checkup and said everything looks good so I’m ready to meet my furever family!

15. Phoebe

Young (11 months) · Female · Chinese Crested-Hairless

Meet Phoebe, a spunky young Chinese Crested puppy who packs a whole lot of personality, affection and fun into her 14-pound frame! Phoebe believes life is better with squeaky toys, crinkly toys—and especially yellow toys! She loves playing tug-of-war, tossing her toys, wrestling and even playing fetch. When she isn’t busy having fun, this affectionate little sweetheart is happy to snuggle into bed with a favorite human or two. Phoebe enjoys long walks, playdates with small/medium dogs and splashing through rain puddles. Grass, however, is highly overrated in her opinion! She will walk through it when necessary, but she would much rather find a soft pillow than sit on grass or a hard floor.

Read more about Phoebe

Smart and eager to please, Phoebe is motivated by both treats and affection. She already understands “kennel,” comes when her name is called and is learning “sit”—provided an appropriately comfortable sitting surface can be found! Phoebe would thrive with a playful, similarly sized canine companion or with someone who spends plenty of time at home. She enjoys children, but because of her small size and enthusiastic personality, children over age eight would be the best fit. Large dogs may be overwhelming for her, and she is still trying to figure out exactly what cats are all about. A fenced yard would be wonderful but is not required. Phoebe uses pee pads and is continuing to work on her housetraining. She will do best with a consistent routine, a designated potty area and a family committed to helping her continue making progress. Her new family should also be prepared to maintain her regular bathing and skincare routine, as she can develop the mild acne commonly seen in young Chinese Cresteds. Fortunately, she is a cooperative little bathing beauty—especially when her favorite human joins her in the shower! With plenty of toys, cozy places to sit, cute clothes for chilly weather and people who will adore her, Phoebe is ready to bring nonstop smiles and affection to one very lucky family. If you’re looking for a playful, loving and wonderfully entertaining companion, Phoebe may be your perfect match! Phoebe’s adoption donation is $750, and she is currently being fostered in the Cleveland, Ohio area. She has been spayed, microchipped, received her rabies, distemper/parvo, bivalent canine influenza and Bordetella vaccines, started on heartworm prevention, tested negative for heartworms, and is on flea and tick prevention. 16. Penelope

Puppy (10 months) · Female · Shih Tzu / Mixed (long coat)

Meet Penelope, a happy, energetic young girl who will celebrate her first birthday on October 10th! Penelope loves people and enjoys the company of other dogs. She has a joyful, enthusiastic personality and approaches life with all the excitement and curiosity you would expect from a puppy. She loves Nylabones and other durable chew toys and is always ready to play. Because of Penelope’s energy and exuberant play style, she is best suited to a home without young children. She is still learning appropriate puppy manners, including how to trade an item she has for something of higher value. She can occasionally be possessive of food or special chews around other dogs, so these items should be carefully managed while her training continues.

Read more about Penelope

A young, energetic companion dog is recommended, provided the dogs meet beforehand and are a good match. Penelope’s enthusiasm may be overwhelming for an older or more laid-back dog. She has been around a dog friendly cat and does well with him. Penelope requires a securely fenced yard where she can safely run, play, and burn off her puppy energy. She is comfortable sleeping in her crate at night and resting there when her foster family is away. She also does well for the groomer and has no known medical concerns. Penelope is looking for an active, patient family that will continue helping her develop good manners while embracing her wonderfully happy puppy personality. With positive guidance, plenty of activity, and lots of love, this cheerful girl will bring fun and affection to her forever home! Penelope’s adoption donation is $750, and she is currently being fostered in the Central Ohio area. She has been spayed and microchipped and is current on her rabies, distemper/parvo, Bordetella, and bivalent canine influenza vaccines. 17. Callie

Young (4 years 2 months) · Female · Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (medium coat)

Callie

If you’ve ever wanted a little shadow who thinks the best place in the world is right next to you, Callie may be your girl. This incredibly sweet, easygoing little lady is happiest when she’s with her person. Whether you’re relaxing on the couch, moving around the house, or settling in for a nap, Callie would love nothing more than to be right there beside you. Personal space is definitely not high on her list of priorities!

Read more about Callie

Callie can be a little reserved when meeting someone new, but give her some time and patience and you’ll get to see what a loving, devoted girl she really is. Once she decides you’re her person, she takes that job very seriously. She does well with other dogs, cats, and children over eight, although she doesn’t need another dog in her new home to be happy. Her favorite companion is definitely her human.

Callie has a nice medium-to-low energy level and is perfectly content with a quieter lifestyle. She is pee-pad trained and does not require a fenced yard. She would especially enjoy a home where her person is around much of the time, although she does fine when left alone. More than anything, she’s looking for someone who will appreciate having a loving little sidekick who wants to be part of their day.

Callie does have a heart condition that will require lifelong care, but we’ve worked hard to get her set up for success. She has been evaluated by a cardiologist, her treatment plan is in place, and she takes her medications like a champ. She will need to remain on her prescribed medications and supplements and have regular echocardiograms so her heart can be monitored. For the right adopter, it simply becomes part of the routine of loving and caring for this very special girl.

We would love to find Callie an experienced dog owner, ideally someone familiar with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and their needs, with a strong history of providing consistent veterinary care. In return, Callie has an enormous amount of love and companionship to give. She isn’t asking for much: a comfortable home, good care, patience when she first meets you, and most importantly, a person she can call her own.

Callie’s adoption donation is $675 and she is being fostered in Central Ohio. She has been spayed, microchipped, is current on her vaccinations, has been tested for heartworms and is on heartworm/flea/tick prevention. Callie has also had a dental cleaning and complete bloodwork.

18. Chica

Senior · Female · Smooth Collie (medium coat)

Chica is 8 yrs old

Chica is a beautiful smooth collie whose personality is the epitome of sweet and gentle. “Calm, quiet and sniffs” describe her interactions with just about everyone, and she will fit easily into a loving forever home. She gets along well with the resident dogs, happily wagging her tail to let them know she’s ready to engage. She’s also calm with cats and children. Although Chica enjoys other dogs, her favorite companions are her people. She’s wisely a little reserved with strangers, but once she gets to know you, she’s happy to cuddle and be petted.

Read more about Chica

Chica enjoys the outdoors, quickly taking care of “business” before exploring the yard or going after a toy when it’s thrown and she’s told to “get it.” Not all collies play with toys, and even fewer play fetch, but Chica loves it! She also understands “go potty” and “go to crate.” Chica is easygoing and quiet. Even at the age of 8, she’ll surprise you with a delightful burst of zoomies, perhaps just her way of showing us all how happy she is to be alive and spending time with her humans and her canine friends. As her foster has said, “She’s just an awesome dog!”

19. Patrick

Young (4 years) · Male · Poodle (Miniature) (medium coat)

Meet Patrick!

Some dogs let life define them. Patrick never got the memo. Born with a deformity in his front left leg, Patrick has spent his entire life proving that different doesn't mean limited. He runs, plays, explores, and keeps up with his canine friends without letting his disability slow him down. It's simply the way he was born—and to Patrick, it's no big deal.

Read more about Patrick

Patrick is a handsome 3-year-old Poodle with a gentle heart and a quiet spirit. He absolutely loves other dogs and lights up when he has a canine friend to play with or nap beside. Whether he's exploring the yard, enjoying the fresh air, or relaxing after a fun play session, Patrick finds joy in the simple things. Like many puppy mill survivors, Patrick is still learning that people can be trusted. While he may be shy at first, beneath that timid exterior is a sweet boy just waiting for someone to show him that the world can be a safe and loving place. With patience, kindness, and a little time, Patrick's personality continues to shine a little brighter every day. His front leg has never caused him pain, and while he occasionally uses it for balance when standing, he has adapted beautifully.

Patrick doesn't see himself as different—and neither should you. His disability has never kept him from enjoying life, playing with his dog friends, or doing all the things dogs love to do. Patrick approaches house training the same way he approaches everything else—with determination. He continues to make great progress when kept on a consistent schedule and will thrive with a patient, understanding family committed to helping him continue his journey. Patrick's ideal home will have a securely fenced yard, another friendly dog (that loves to play) to help build his confidence, and a family that understands that trust is earned, not rushed. In return, you'll gain an incredibly resilient companion who reminds you every day that life's challenges don't define who we are.

Patrick's adoption donation is $625. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo, bivalent canine influenza, and Bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on monthly heartworm prevention, as well as flea prevention. He has also had a dental cleaning. If you're looking for a dog who embodies resilience, quiet courage, and unconditional love, Patrick is ready to show you that sometimes the strongest hearts come in the smallest packages. ❤️

Puppy (8 months) · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat)

DOB: 1/18/2026

Hi there, I’m Peanut!
I’m a Chihuahua mix puppy and pretty much everything in the world is brand new and exciting to me. I’ve got a whole lot of energy packed into my little body and I love to run and play and explore. But here’s my secret. When the playing is done, all I really want to do is climb into your lap and snuggle up close. I’m a serious cuddle bug.
I follow my foster mom everywhere she goes. Kitchen, couch, you name it, I’m right behind her like a tiny shadow. And when it’s mealtime I sit and wait so patiently because I already know good things come to puppies who are sweet.

I get along with just about everybody. The kittens, the older cats, the big dogs, I love them all and I just want to be friends. I think the world is a wonderful place full of people and animals to love. I also love going to new places and seeing new things. Adventure is my middle name.

I’m doing really well with my crate training and my potty training too. I’m even learning to ring a little bell when I need to go outside, and I’d love a person who keeps helping me get really good at it.

At the end of the day I curl up with my foster family and my foster sibling and I feel so safe and happy. That’s all I want for the rest of my life. Someone to love, a warm spot to snuggle into, and a few new adventures along the way.

21. Pippa-ARR

Adult (5 years 7 months) · Female · Shih Tzu (long coat)

Meet Pippa, a sweet puppy mill survivor who is discovering just how wonderful life can be as a cherished family member. Her favorite place is curled up in a lap or snuggled close to her people. She may be a little shy when first meeting someone, but once she feels comfortable, her gentle and loving personality shines through. Pippa has a low-to-moderate energy level and enjoys daily walks almost as much as she enjoys cuddling. She generally prefers to potty while walking, although she is also accustomed to using a yard. Because she likes to keep her eyes on her person, she sometimes needs a little encouragement to wander far enough away to take care of business.

Read more about Pippa-ARR

Pippa does well with her housetraining when kept on a consistent potty schedule, but a patient and understanding home will go a long way toward helping her acclimate. Because she is still learning her leash skills, a secure, physically fenced yard is required for her adoption. This quiet girl is occasionally playful with other dogs and will sometimes pick up a toy, especially a good chew toy. She is comfortable around dogs of all sizes and could live either with or without a canine companion. Another dog may provide some reassurance when her family is away, but what matters most to Pippa is having people nearby. Mealtime is one of Pippa’s greatest joys! She celebrates with some impressive jumps but is learning to sit and wait patiently for her food. With continued gentle, positive reinforcement, she will keep building on everything she is learning in her foster home. After spending her earlier life in a puppy mill, Pippa is still learning that her people will always come back. She becomes anxious and may bark when left alone, so her best home will have someone there most of the time and be willing to help her gradually build confidence when home alone. She rests nicely in her crate while her family is home and is generally comfortable outside the crate when they leave. 22. Tula Bean

Adult (5 years 10 months) · Female · Thai Ridgeback / Mixed (medium coat)

Hello! My name is Tula and I came from Cambodia during the pandemic. I was found wandering the streets with my brother as a puppy. I’m not sure who my parents are, but I found a nice person and moved to the United States in 2021.

Up until recently, I had been living with a young family but I am uncomfortable being around small children. We tried for two years, but my family thought it best to find a home where I could be happier.

Read more about Tula Bean

I love to be outside, take hikes in the woods, play with squeaky ball toys, and sofa time with my foster family. I am skittish around new people, requiring time and patience to warm up to a new environment. My foster parents say that I am independent and enjoy being the boss of the household. Tula will do best as an only dog with no other free roaming pets or young children.

We recently learned a lot about Tula Bean's genetic background. Thai Ridgeback breeds are selective of their people, loyal, intelligent, and very active. They love to chase small critters and would do extremely well in agility courses. She is incredibly graceful, prances around the backyard happily, and loves to throw her head back like a sea lion. Tula will do well in a calm home and understands that she needs to hang out in a crate while her people work. She is housetrained and has done well in the car.Tula is VERY treat motivated (especially loves cheese), learns fast, and approaches us excitedly for attention. Have we mentioned how soft she is?

She will not be attending PAWS adoption events, so please reach out to schedule a meet and greet with Tula today!

How to adopt from Powell Animal Welfare Society (PAWS)

To adopt a PAWS dog: 1. BROWSE. View our adoptable dogs on PetFinder or on our website (powellpaws.org/adoptable-dogs) to find a dog that suits your family and lifestyle. 2. APPLY. Complete and submit your online application on our website powellpaws.org/adoption-application. Make sure that you are completing the Google captcha puzzle to confirm that you are not a robot in order to submit your online application. NOTE: You may need to scroll to the top of the webpage to find the puzzle! Your application will NOT submit unless all mandatory questions have been answered AND the Google captcha puzzle is successfully completed. 3. NOTIFY. Call your veterinarian and provide your permission for PAWS to discuss your pets’ medical history. If you rent your residence, PAWS verifies that your landlord permits the breed of dog in question. Notifying your landlord and/or veterinarian ahead of time can speed up the application review process! A PAWS volunteer reviews your application to ensure that all other dogs in the household are up-to-date on their vaccinations (DHPP, lepto, rabies, bordetella) and are spayed/neutered. Additionally, they verify that any cats in the home are current on their rabies vaccination. 4. MEET & GREET. Upon application approval, the dog’s foster parent contacts you to set up a meet and greet in a neutral location (like a pet store or park). 5. HOME VISIT. The foster parent, dog, and another PAWS volunteer meet you in your home for a home visit. Here,

Applicant submits an online (or paper) application. We thoroughly check references including personal, vet, and groomer--landlord if applicable. Once references check out, we then conduct a home visit to ensure home and family would best suit the dog. We do not adopt on a first come, first served basis--we go with the home that is the best fit for the dog.

How to adopt from Colony Cats (& dogs)

We have an application that requires the potential adopter to wait until their application can be verified. Once everything checks out the adopter comes and picks up their new fur member of the family and signs a contract. One of the highlights of our contract states that if for ANY reason at ANY time they cannot care for the animal, they must return the cat or dog back to Colony Cats (& dogs). Our adoption fees are $125 for kittens 6 months and younger; $75 for kittens over 6 months and adults up to 7 years; $50 for 7 years and older. If adopting 2 kittens/cats at the same time there is a $25 discount. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, Feline Leukemia and FIV tested (cats), heartworm tested (dogs), microchip, flea prevention, vaccinations (FVRCP for cats and DHLPP for dogs), rabies vaccine (if kittens or puppies are old enough to receive a rabies vaccine). If not, the new owner will need to go to their vet to get this done.

Adopting a dog in Morrow County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
