Who is this sweet man? That man is Ham! He is a 4yo beagle basset mix.
Ham needs the most special forever home because he needs somebody who is willing to adopt or foster him and help him through heartworm treatment, at OBHR‘s cost!
Ham came to OBHR with two other dogs from a hoarding situation in St. Louis Missouri. He is good with other dogs and lived in a foster home in St. Louis for a few weeks with cats with no issues also. He is a shy guy who would do best with another dog to keep him company. He is up-to-date on his shots, However he is not able to be neutered until after his heartworm treatment is complete as we cannot subject him to anesthesia until his heart is healthy. All of this will be done at our cost as long as you can bring him back to our Vet in the Columbus area for treatment.
Ham will need to go to a home with a fenced in yard and he is currently located in the Columbus area. If you are willing to open your heart and home to this special boy, please fill out the online application on our website and once Approved shoot us an email. We are looking for either a Foster, Foster to adopt or adaptive home for him! Ohio and bordering states only please.

4. Lulu
Adult (2 years 5 months) · Female · Basset Hound · 40 mi from Quincy

Meet Lulu! Lulu is a sweet 2 1/2 year-old female basset hound looking for a new home. Lulu is a very friendly and loving girl who for the most part is pretty quiet! She loves to play with toys and she loves to snuggle! And she has these eyes that will win you over and have you wrapped around her little paw!
Read more about Lulu
We do not know Lulu‘s complete background, we were told that one of her former owners was older and had a hard time walking so she was rehomed. We were also told that there was another Former Owner who was moving out of state and could not take her. The family that relinquished Lulu to us loved her dearly but was having an issue with Lulu not wanting to share her humans with the other dogs in the house.
She did feed Lulu separately due to some food aggression with her other dogs. She is definitely a basset when it comes to getting into some things left out! She is cute and sneaky!
Lulu will need a home with somebody who has previously owned a basset hound and is familiar with their stubborn nature! She is dog selective as she was fine with one of the other dogs in her last home but did not want to share her human with the other. New owners will need to discipline her and teach her sharing manners. She is not cat tested.
Kids age 10 minimum. She will also require a home with a fenced in yard. Lulu‘s adoption fee is $300 and she is spayed and up-to-date on all of her shots. If
you are interested in Lulu or any of the other dogs please fill out the application on our website and if already approved or once Approved please email us. Ohio and bordering states only please. ohiobassetrescue.com ohbassetrescue@yahoo.com

6. Sky
2 Years 9 Months · Female · Basset Hound / Beagle / Mixed · 40 mi from Quincy

Meet Sky! This chunky little diva hound mix is looking for some humans that will do her bidding, feed her on time in a personalized dish, buy her a bejeweled collar, and make sure she is the only Queen of the castle!
Read more about Sky
Sky is an active dog who will need an active family! She does not require a home with a fence but will definitely need to be leashed. No fence because doesn’t like them. Hates them actually. You can have the best fence possible, and this diva, if left alone in the yard for even 5 minutes will try to squeeze her chunky girth through any chink in the armor. Now to be honest the last time she tried that, chunky monkey got stuck in the fence and had to be dragged out in a very unladylike fashion. She may have learned a lesson. She may not have. We don’t want to take the chance. So lots of walks would be best!
Queen Diva Sky also has another thing she doesn’t like. Competition. Now don’t get us wrong she’s been in a foster home with several other dogs for a few months and even was dog sat in another home for about 2 weeks with another dog with no issue….but as she has settled in this spoiled diva has decided she needs to he the Head Diva in Charge, Queen of the Castle, Her Royal Highness. Basically she’s a snob and goes after the other girls You must only have eyes for her! Now she has not tried anything with the boys, but again we don’t want to take a chance so we are saying she needs to be an only dog. Again she can visit dogs, go to dog parks, even have overnight stays, but when it comes to commitment….she wants you to have only eyes for her!
We really can’t tell you about cats. Her foster mom is allergic so she can’t be cat tested.
Housebroken? Absolutely! Did we mention she’s a diva? She knows to go outside. She does not destroy things in the house so she doesn’t need a crate as an only dog.
Vetting? Done. Shots. Spayed. Microchipped. Heartworm negative. Slightly chunky? Yes but that’s her foster dad’s fault. Too many treats! I mean it’s not a bad thing. Did help her get stuck in that fence.
Fee? $300 and you can adopt a Diva. In exchange you will get a lifetime of love, may learn a few new swear words, definitely have a snuggle buddy, will be expected to have dinner ready on time, and provide a new toy monthly.
Location? Dayton area. We do adopt to Ohio and bordering states. We don’t dog dash but we can meet you part way. I mean unless you’re in Philly. Then we can meet you a small portion of the way. May be able to drop off in Cleveland if you can provide a few tickets to the Dog Pound. Bengals fans? We will think about it.
Have you already been approved by OBHR? Email us. Ohbassetrescue@yahoo.com That’s with only one T. Bassett=furniture Basset=drooling hairball on 4 legs. Not approved yet? Apply at ohiobassetrescue.com. Then our people will call your people. We will talk. Arrangements will be made. If the diva approves she will bless you with her presence.
Thank you for your time and please share this post. You may know the perfect minions who will be the Diva’s food slaves for life!

8. Lulu
Adult · Female · Collie (medium coat) · 45 mi from Quincy

Lulu is an expert at chillin’, maxin’ and relaxin’. When she first discovered comfort, she found her bliss — and she has no intention of giving it up! On her first day in her foster home, she immediately jumped on the couch, rolled over onto her back and fell asleep. She loves to be next to her person, soaking up all the petting she can get. Learning new commands? Let’s just say it takes a little persuasion to convince Lulu to interrupt her relaxation routine.
Read more about Lulu
Lulu loves her person so much that she sometimes feels the need to play bodyguard, barking when someone approaches. She has to be instructed to stop, and then all is well. She responds well to being corrected. Lulu loves women, while men and children need to earn her trust.
Which one of us can’t relate to a dog who loves her comfort and takes her time before letting some people into her inner circle of trust? Right now, Lulu is probably snoozing on the sofa, happily dreaming of her forever home filled with lots of petting and creature, er, doggie, comforts.

9. Morgan
Young · Female · Collie (medium coat) · 45 mi from Quincy

Exuberant, jubilant and happy — that’s Morgan! This 9-month-old collie is looking for his forever home. He is a true puppy at heart, full of energy and wanting to be wherever the action is, but he’s also great at entertaining himself. Morgan will gleefully empty the entire toy basket over and over again, keeping you on your toes.
Read more about Morgan
Morgan loves everyone and everything. He’s currently in a foster home with a pack of dogs, finding his place and learning acceptable behavior on a daily basis. His foster family is working on “sit” and “wait,” and he is motivated to learn as long as his person is nearby and treats are involved! Morgan absolutely loves the outdoors and will circle the entire yard at a sprinter’s pace. In fact, he especially loves a good game of chase, so he would likely do best in a home with a fenced-in yard and another dog buddy to play with.
When this fun-loving, playful guy needs rest, he will happily settle down for belly rubs and attention. Like all puppies, Morgan likes to chew and will need supervision until he outgrows this behavior. Luckily, he loves his crate and does great in it when he’s home alone.
This sweet pup is a true gem, and with continued training, Morgan will be a great addition to a loving home.

10. Daisy
Adult · Female · Collie (medium coat) · 45 mi from Quincy

Sweet Daisy is a 6-year-old sable and white rough collie with a gentle heart. Her foster family describes her as shy and a bit nervous at first, but she warms up quickly to people with love and attention. In fact, she feels so safe and comfortable around her foster mom that she needs to be taught a bit about boundaries and personal space. She prefers to be RIGHT beside her human at all times, enjoying gentle pets and cuddles. A true couch potato, Daisy is currently somewhat overweight, so her foster family is helping her stay on track by encouraging daily walks and regular exercise as part of her routine. As an adult dog, she already knows most of her commands but is eager to please and motivated to learn more.
Read more about Daisy
Daisy would likely do best in a calm adult-only home where she can be the only pet. She is somewhat anxious and cautious around the other dogs in the house. Daisy is protective of her food and prefers to have her own space, especially at mealtimes. Outdoors, Daisy prefers to be alone rather than play with the other dogs. The presence of her foster family and their reassurance keeps her calm, and she already knows she can trust them and feels safe. With some tender loving care and a patient home, Daisy’s foster family believes she has all the makings of a devoted and affectionate companion.

11. Zane
Young · Male · Collie (medium coat) · 45 mi from Quincy

A true gentleman! That is how Zane is described by his foster family, and it’s easy to see why. Not only does he have a beautiful face, but he also has a wonderfully gentle way about him. His foster family cannot say enough good things about him! When meeting new people, Zane has a happy little bounce to his step and calmly greets them with a tail-wagging hello. His sweet demeanor extends to his canine friends and the furry cats he has met along the way.

This sweet boy is smart and very eager to learn new things. He enjoys all types of food and treats and will happily do just about anything you ask in exchange for a tasty reward. He is currently working on his sit and come commands and is eager to please. He loves spending time outdoors, sniffing around the yard before settling in for some playtime, and Zane especially enjoys his walks!

13. Hannah
Puppy · Female · Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie / Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat) · 45 mi from Quincy

Hannah is 6 mths old
Gorgeous Hannah has the personality to match her looks! This playful girl can amuse herself with her toys for hours and also loves spending time outdoors. But when you settle in on the couch, she gladly settles down with you. She can be goofy and silly one minute, but Hannah can also be relaxed.
Hannah does enjoy her food and treats. However, if it’s something she values highly, she will resource guard. She doesn’t like pushy dogs and will let them know when they’re crossing the line with her. Hannah couldn’t care less about cats — she has no interest at all.
Read more about Hannah
She came to her foster not knowing any commands, so she’s in the process of learning. After all, she is still a puppy and that’s what they do! When Hannah sees someone new, she just has to say “hi.” She’s happy to socialize with dogs, as long as they respect her boundaries.
Happy Hannah is waiting for her person to come say “hi” and hang out with her. Might that be you?

14. Chica
Senior · Female · Smooth Collie (medium coat) · 45 mi from Quincy

Chica is 8 yrs old
Chica is a beautiful smooth collie whose personality is the epitome of sweet and gentle. “Calm, quiet and sniffs” describe her interactions with just about everyone, and she will fit easily into a loving forever home. She gets along well with the resident dogs, happily wagging her tail to let them know she’s ready to engage. She’s also calm with cats and children. Although Chica enjoys other dogs, her favorite companions are her people. She’s wisely a little reserved with strangers, but once she gets to know you, she’s happy to cuddle and be petted.
Read more about Chica
Chica enjoys the outdoors, quickly taking care of “business” before exploring the yard or going after a toy when it’s thrown and she’s told to “get it.” Not all collies play with toys, and even fewer play fetch, but Chica loves it! She also understands “go potty” and “go to crate.” Chica is easygoing and quiet. Even at the age of 8, she’ll surprise you with a delightful burst of zoomies, perhaps just her way of showing us all how happy she is to be alive and spending time with her humans and her canine friends. As her foster has said, “She’s just an awesome dog!”

15. Peanut
Puppy (8 months) · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 46 mi from Quincy

DOB: 1/18/2026
Hi there, I’m Peanut!
I’m a Chihuahua mix puppy and pretty much everything in the world is brand new and exciting to me. I’ve got a whole lot of energy packed into my little body and I love to run and play and explore. But here’s my secret. When the playing is done, all I really want to do is climb into your lap and snuggle up close. I’m a serious cuddle bug.
I follow my foster mom everywhere she goes. Kitchen, couch, you name it, I’m right behind her like a tiny shadow. And when it’s mealtime I sit and wait so patiently because I already know good things come to puppies who are sweet.
Read more about Peanut
I get along with just about everybody. The kittens, the older cats, the big dogs, I love them all and I just want to be friends. I think the world is a wonderful place full of people and animals to love. I also love going to new places and seeing new things. Adventure is my middle name.
I’m doing really well with my crate training and my potty training too. I’m even learning to ring a little bell when I need to go outside, and I’d love a person who keeps helping me get really good at it.
At the end of the day I curl up with my foster family and my foster sibling and I feel so safe and happy. That’s all I want for the rest of my life. Someone to love, a warm spot to snuggle into, and a few new adventures along the way.
Could that someone be you?
I am in a foster home so if you are interested in adoptiong me, please fill out an online adoption application at https://colonycats.org/adoption_app.html to expedite the process. Due to the large number of inquiries we receive, we are unable to respond to emails quickly.

16. Bojangles
Young · Male · Hound / Mountain Cur / Mixed (short coat) · 47 mi from Quincy

My name is Bojangles! But you can call me Bo. I'm a Hound/Mountain Cur? I'm 3 years old, 44 pounds. Low to medium energy. His foster parents are still learning with Bo, but this is what we know so far:
I'm housetrained and appropriate chewer.
Bojangles isn't fond of the crate. But working on it.
My foster parents can run errands and he's ok to left out.
Walking at Parks are a bit much for Bo with bikes and other dogs. He can be leash reactive when startled or approaching dogs. A quieter area is better with less foot traffic.
Bo loves car rides. Good in the car.
Good with children. Cats unknown.

17. Bagel
Young · Female · Beagle (short coat) · 47 mi from Quincy

Hi, I'm Bagel ~4 year old female Beagle. I was picked up “running errands” outside a Family Dollar down in Athens. The folks at PAWS transported me to Columbus, where I have been living the good life with my foster family.
So far they say I am sweet, a little reserved, but starting to open up after 2 weeks of routine and stability. I love to snuggle up on the couch, or go for a walk. I'm good with kids and other dogs. I met a cat at the vet's office and was curious but cautious.
Read more about Bagel
I will do the hound howl in my crate for maybe 10 min then settle when the humans are gone. They think I might be ok left alone out of my crate too, I'm pretty chill. I'm still working on potty training, but my foster family says I'm 90% there, which for two weeks in a new place is very good. I am treat motivated....if you have the right treats (meaty are my favorite), and I love praise/pats from people.
I am looking for someone who will be patient as I warms up and then I will be your constant companion!
Bagel is currently going through treatment for heartworm, but can be still be adopted during this time if the adopter is onboard for taking her to all her appointments (paid for by PAWS @ our vet) and following exercise restrictions.

18. Roma
Female · Hound / Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 47 mi from Quincy

Hi there, my name is Roma! I’m a female hound looking mixed breed and weigh about 55 pounds. I am about 4 years old and my foster mom says that I’m pretty much a perfect pup! I walk well on a leash, I’m potty trained, crate trained (though I also do fine left alone outside of the crate), good with other dogs and small humans, and just the sweetest girl. I also like to play with toys, especially the squeaky ones!
Read more about Roma
I was found as a stray running in the woods and unfortunately picked up a couple treatable diseases while there, one of them being heart worm. What this means is that I have a couple months or more of treatment I need to go through, which includes being on a strict exercise restriction during this time. I understand that this might make it hard for me to be picked right now, but I really wanted to see if my forever family is out there. My foster parents say I’m well worth it! I am currently available for foster to adopt so PAWS will cover all treatment costs with our vet. I am truly so sweet and loving and I promise to make you smile everyday!

19. Otto
Young · Male · Pointer / Mixed (short coat) · 47 mi from Quincy

Hi there, I’m Otto! I’m an 11-month-old hound/pointer pup. I am currently 42 lbs. here is some more info about me:
-Great with other dogs!
-Skittish in new places and around new people. All siblings from this litter were more fearful of men but is not aggressive- just will probably be more comfortable with females initially. Once he gets to know you, he is very snuggly and sweet.
-He would do best in a home with another dog that is friendly around people and confident on leash to help him. Outdoor adventures with a dog friend would be good for him.

-Crate trained. Is crated next to Sallie at least 4 days a week for 8 hours per day. He will probably be fine loose eventually, but he still occasionally chomps on things like most adolescent dogs.
-Did well with his cat test. Disengaged from the cat easily and was more interested in finding cat food.
-Rides well in the car. Occasionally will bark when he sees something out the window.
-Housetrained (but you do have to pay attention to him)
-He is a good boy!

20. Prongs
Young · Male · German Shorthaired Pointer / Mixed (short coat) · 47 mi from Quincy

Hi I’m Prongs! I’m at 7-8 month GSP mix and I’m looking for a home! I’m located in Cincinnati but I can be adopted in Columbus or here! I’m good with other dogs and got rescued with another dog named Padfoot! I have 2 brothers also with PAWS too! I like cats, they’re pretty interesting but I leave them alone once they’ve had enough of me. I’m a shy guy but I love people once I get to know them. I’d do better with older kids or calm younger ones as loud noises and sudden movements scare me. My favorite thing to do is lay in the grass out in the backyard so if you have a fenced in backyard, that would be awesome! But if you don’t that’s alright too! I’m learning to be in a home again as I’ve been a stray and haven’t been taught anything.
Read more about Prongs
I’m working on some commands, potty training, and walking on a leash. I like to go to the door when I need to go potty to let my foster mom know I need to go out. I do sleep in the crate when my foster family leaves and goes to bed but I do like to express my concerns and opinions for a little bit before I settle down. I really prefer a bed. I’m the sweetest guy and I will love you forever! If you’re looking for a new pup to add to your family, please consider me!

One of the highlights of our contract states that if for ANY reason at ANY time they cannot care for the animal, they must return the cat or dog back to Colony Cats (& dogs). Our adoption fees are $125 for kittens 6 months and younger; $75 for kittens over 6 months and adults up to 7 years; $50 for 7 years and older. If adopting 2 kittens/cats at the same time there is a $25 discount. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, Feline Leukemia and FIV tested (cats), heartworm tested (dogs), microchip, flea prevention, vaccinations (FVRCP for cats and DHLPP for dogs), rabies vaccine (if kittens or puppies are old enough to receive a rabies vaccine). If not, the new owner will need to go to their vet to get this done.
Adopting a dog in Quincy
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
