4. Buzz
Puppy (3 months 7 days) · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed · 5 mi from Abbottstown

Dear Buzz’s Future Family,
Hi! I’m one of the kids at Buzz’s foster home, and I wanted to tell you about him because I think he’s a really awesome puppy!
First, you should know that Buzz LOVES toys. Like, REALLY loves them! If you give him a toy, he’s the happiest puppy ever. He loves playing with us kids and the other dogs at our house. He’s always ready to have fun!
Buzz is also super sweet. He loves people and getting attention, and he just wants to be part of whatever we’re doing. If we’re playing, he wants to play. If we’re hanging out, he wants to hang out with us. I think he just really likes having friends!
Read more about Buzz
He’s only 14 weeks old, so he’s still a baby and has lots of things to learn. Sometimes I wonder how big he’s going to get because his mommy is only 30 pounds, but nobody knows who his daddy is! The grown-ups think he might be anywhere from 50 plus pounds when he’s bigger. That’s a pretty big difference if you ask me!
I really like having Buzz at our house, but I know he’s not supposed to stay here forever. He’s waiting for his own family, and I hope they have lots of toys, maybe another dog to play with, and people who will love him as much as we do.
If you decide to adopt Buzz, can you promise me something? Please be patient with him while he learns how to be a good boy. He’s still little, and he has his whole life ahead of him. I hope he gets to spend it being somebody’s best friend.
Love,
One of Buzz’s Human Foster Brothers

5. Mysti
Senior (8 years 2 months) · Female · Hound / Mixed · 5 mi from Abbottstown

FALL in Love with Mysti… Because Every Season Is Better with a Best Friend!
While everyone is searching for pumpkin spice and cozy sweaters, Mysti is searching for something a little more important… a forever home to spend the rest of her seasons.
At 8 years old, Mysti isn’t looking for wild adventures or a packed social calendar. She’s looking for someone to love, a comfortable spot to rest, and a family who won’t mind having a four-legged shadow following them from room to room.
Meet Mysti!
Read more about Mysti
8 years young
60 pounds of sweetness
Dog friendly
Cat friendly
Kid friendly
Fully house trained and even lets you know when she needs to go out!
No crate needed! She’s trustworthy when left home alone.
Great car companion
Enjoys walks and exploring the yard
Up to date on preventatives, heartworm negative, spayed, and microchipped
Why Mysti is the perfect cozy-season companion:
Mysti is the kind of dog who doesn’t need to be the center of attention. She just wants to be wherever you are. Cooking dinner? She’s nearby. Watching football? She’s your couch buddy. Enjoying a quiet fall afternoon? She’s perfectly content just being in the same room.
She may have a little age-related arthritis, but don’t tell Mysti she’s getting older! This girl still enjoys running around her foster family’s fenced yard and soaking up everything life has to offer.
The hardest part? At 8 years old, Mysti has so much love left to give, but older dogs are often overlooked while everyone rushes to adopt the puppies.
Mysti isn’t asking for much. Just a family who will choose her and give her the security of knowing she’s finally home.
And here’s a little extra reason to FALL for her! A generous sponsor has donated toward Mysti’s adoption fee to help this deserving girl find her happily ever after!
Fostered in New Holland, PA
Please share Mysti! Somewhere out there is a family who needs exactly the kind of love this sweet girl has to offer. Let’s help them find each other before another season passes her by.

7. Sadie
Senior (9 years 2 months) · Female · Golden Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 13 mi from Abbottstown

NAME: Sadie
BREED: Golden Retriever Mix
BIRTHDAY: 2017
WEIGHT: 40lbs
ADOPTION FEE: $300
In a small town in Kosovo, a blind dog laid in the dirt. For one week she stayed, too afraid to move, in unimaginable pain from two damaged eyes. When help finally came, she was given a name and taken to a vet clinic, and Sadie's real life began.
Read more about Sadie
Upon arriving to us, Sadie was very nervous and shut down. She didn't want to eat or even go to the bathroom. However, she quickly learned to follow her foster sister outside, figured out that the cats rubbing on her were her friends, and began to trust that her foster mom would only feed and love her, not hurt her. She is very quiet, very house trained, and very sweet. Now that she's getting comfortable and feeling better post-eye removal, her goofy personality is starting to show! We can't run and play too much, since Sadie is also heartworm positive and currently undergoing treatment, but once she is out of the woods she's going to be such a fun dog to romp and play with! For now, we wrestle gently on the couch or in the yard, and she chases her tail when she gets a little bored. Overall Sadie is a very sweet, easy, and GOOD dog, and we are just happy we could help her!
***Sadie has been through a lot, and is almost completely blind. She can react (and has reacted) fearfully to new situations, and may bite if she feels threatened or trapped. It's obvious that she doesn't want to hurt anyone, but this is the only way she knows to defend herself. Her new family will need to be patient and go slow while she adjusts to yet another transition. A fenced yard is ideal and will make acclimation easier for her. Sadie will need to have daily eye drops for as long as her remaining eye is visual, but it's likely that she will be completely blind eventually and at that point the eye can be removed. This service will be covered by our rescue, at our vet or a similarly-priced clinic.

11/1/2026 - Videos: Meet PopTart. PopTart likes giving kisses. MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hello, my name is PopTart. My owner could not take care of me so she asked CSAC to help find me a new home. The best home for me has a fenced yard so I can run off my energy, children to play with me, and other pets for me to play with. I am young and full of energy, but I do like to bark so no apartments. I am housetrained and can have run of house. I get along with kids of all ages, other dogs and cats. Right now, I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with the CSAC. They are checking me out and making sure I am healthy.

We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. 9. Rocky
Adult · Male · Maltese · 16 mi from Abbottstown

MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Rocky, and I just arrived at CSAC. I was rescued from a puppy mill. I am a little timid because I have not been around a lot of people or lived in a home as a pet. I have spent my life in a barn, a shed or a cage. The CSAC volunteer says that I am happy and friendly. The best home for me has people who have dog experience who can help with my training and acclimating to the outside world. The people in my new home should be able to teach me the skills I need to be a great pet: walking on a lead, house training, and socializing. I will need time to trust people who want what is best for me and are not going to hurt me.

11. Bandit
5 Years · Male · Beagle · 16 mi from Abbottstown

NOTE- BANDIT IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR AN INDIVIDUAL ASKING TO REHOME THEIR PET. PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.Bandit is a sweet, loving beagle boy who was rescued from a neglectful situation. He spent the majority of his young life in a crate or tied outside. He didn't get fed on a regular basis and it was whatever they threw at him. Bandit is very food motivated and sometimes will hide a piece of food. He is learning that he will be fed on a regular schedule every day and has been doing much better with always wanting to eat. Bandit is about 10 pounds overweight and needs to get more exercise and lose some weight.
Because Bandit didn't have much interaction with his people he developed separation anxiety. It has gotten better with time although he still wants to be where his person is. Bandit is good with school-aged children but hasn't been tested with babies/small children.
Bandit would do well with a loving, patient, beagle savvy person/home. He needs someone who isn't away from the house for long periods of time or someone who is able to take him along. He loves to go for walks and car rides. He's not fond of water. Bandit needs a fenced yard to be off leash. He's a barker so a home that wouldn't have to worry about having very close neighbors is required. We don't know how Bandit would do with cats or other dogs.

13. Dulcie
2 Years 1 Month · Female · English Coonhound · 16 mi from Abbottstown

NOTE- DULCIE IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR ANOTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATION. PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.Howdy ya’ll! I’m Dulcie (pronounced Dull-see), otherwise known as the sweetest lil’ Southern thang this side of the Miss-is-sip! I’m so affectionate my foster mama says I’m a borderline pest because of it. I know she don’t really mean it, tho. She loves the dickens out of me! She says I’m a unique cross ‘tween a Southern Belle and a backwoods country gal. I have the poise and beauty of a Belle but also love to get down and dirty! Found a pile of cow poop? Let’s roll, baby! I seem to do well and enjoy going for rides, so we can cruise those back mountain roads in your 4x4 together with the windows down.
Read more about Dulcie
You drive, I’ll sniff! When I channel my inner Scarlet O’Hare, I'm mostly a fine young lady who minds her tongue (except when I get mad and frankly don’t give a damn and say so—but that doesn’t happen too often—I really only get mad at my foster brother sometimes and have to tell him off). So, I haven’t been very vocal thus far and mama says that’s a good thing ‘cause it’ll make it easier for someone who has neighbors nearby to adopt me.I like other dogs and enjoy a hearty play session or three a day but, even being the young whippersnapper I am, I am not bounce off the wall high energy. Mama says I can call myself crate trained because I put myself in a crate when I feel like chillin’ and when she goes away, she shuts the crate door and comes back later to find that I was a good girl while she was gone. I kind of like to hang out around mama so come in and go in a crate fairly often, unlike my foster brother who will stay outside until them cows comes home (and he don’t even roll in poop; what’s up with that?!) I’ve not had any potty accidents inside either since I got here! However, there is some red, white and blue Rebel in my blood; to this I must confess. My naughty claim to fame is that I like to pilfer soft things...like dirty laundry, blankets, and rolls of toilet paper (and holy moly do I have fun makin’ a mess with those things, yee haw!!!). Maybe one of these days it’ll make mama break out some more soft plushie toys for me -n- Dewey. One can never have too many toys, I always sez. I’ve heard of these things called cats but I don’t know as if I’ve ever seen one myself to have an opinion of them. I guess that’s about it about me except that mama says she thinks I might be a good starter hound. I had to ask her what that meant and she said basically, because hounds aren’t for everyone, and I seem to be such a good and easy one, that even folks with no prior hound experience can likely handle my little speckled butt because I’m such a love bug and seem eager to please (unless there’s toilet paper involved). So if I sound like the almost perfect, not quite an angel, lovely, charming and fun girl you’ve been looking for contact the Highland County Humane Society in Monterey, VA and plan us a meet-n-greet date; I’d love to make your acquaintance (and scope out your house for toilet paper---oops, maybe I shouldn’t say that part)!! Come take me home on some country roads; you won’t be disappointed!Dulcie is spayed, 46 lbs, sponsored and includes a microchip with lifetime registration. To inquire, please call 5404681575 or email info@highlandcountyhumanesociety.org 4dx SNAP heartworm test, DHLPP, Bordetella, and rabies and parasite control. Also included in the adoption are 30 days of Pet First Pet Insurance, a new lead and collar, and an adoption kit. Adult · Female · Cavalier King Charles Spaniel / Bichon Frise / Mixed · 16 mi from Abbottstown

ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Laney, and I just arrived at CSAC. I was rescued from a puppy mill. I have spent my life in a barn, a shed or a cage. The best home for me has people who have dog experience who can help with my training and acclimating to the outside world. The people in my new home should be able to teach me the skills I need to be a great pet: walking on a lead, house training, and socializing. Right now, I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with CSAC. They are checking me out and making sure I am healthy.

Hopefully, I will find my new family that will help me to understand that I am a cherished family pet, not just an animal to be used to make money. For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. Our adoption process starts with an application. If you are interested in adopting this pup, please click the Adopt menu at the top of the screen, read about our process, and click the application link. The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation. ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! 08/11/2026 - Videos: Meet McFlurry. McFlurry likes treats. McFlurry on the move. MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is McFlurry, and I arrived at CSAC about a month ago from a shelter. I have had a tough start. I was found stray, and I had a broken back leg. Everyone was amazed that I was walking around on it. I had it for so long, the bones could not mend back together so the vet suggested amputating the leg. Unfortunately, I had to wait for surgery to remove the leg. I had an upper respiratory infection and a skin infection around the area where my surgery was going to take place.

No one wanted to put me in even more danger. The great vets kept me comfortable while I waited for the antibiotics to clear up the infections. I finally had the surgery to remove my broken leg. You can see I am on the mend and waiting to find my new, loving home. Hopefully, I will find my new family that will turn me into a happy, cherished pet. email: amybennettwashburn@hotmail.com
Phone: (540) 862-1756
Scrappy is one of eight puppies we obtained care of on 8/22/25. Six of his siblings have found furever homes, but he and his brother, Muttley, are still searching. He is a resilient and brave dog, having had a scar on his back and an umbilical hernia as a pup, which have both been corrected and proven no further complications. Scrappy loves to run, play, and explore, and would be a good companion for hiking trips and other outdoor activities. He is very food motivated (and prefers to eat alone) and could use some obedience/leash training paired with regular play time and exercise. He enjoys making friends with humans and dogs alike and would make a wonderful dog for an active family. Could he be the one for you?

Phone: (540) 862-1756Valley View Animal RescueMeet George! George was initially with us years ago as a young pup and was brought back in August of last year due to his owner's medical state. He is a beautiful boy with low/medium energy who loves to lounge but can appreciate an occasional walk around the neighborhood for some sniffs. He prefers the company of humans but does fine with low energy dogs as he does not like to get very rowdy. George is very smart, and would do best in a home with a fence WITHOUT a flip-style latch, as he uses his nose as a tool!

Read more about Little Ann
Little Ann is an easy-going senior girl desperate to find a home to settle down in. She was recently surrendered with her father and best friend, Radar, due to an unfortunate change in her previous home's circumstances. While in an ideal world she would be adopted with her father, we believe she would do well on her own with enough attention and love. She can be shy at first but opens up quickly. She and Radar enjoy barking at wildlife and are very brave little dogs! She would do well in a home with or without a big yard but will require frequent potty breaks with her little bladder!
If you'd be willing to open your heart and home up to Little Ann, please give us a call or apply directly at: https://forms.office.com/r/qpqJJH6CD2

Adopting a dog in Abbottstown
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
