1. Brodie

Young · Male · Beagle / Mixed · 48 mi from Bethlehem

How handsome is Brodie. He has such great coloring and his eyes are beautiful. He has short hair and long legs for a beagle mix. Brodie is about 2 yrs old and 30 lbs. Brodie is doing good on a leash when he goes for walks. He will pull in the beginning but settles quick and enjoys the rest of the walk. Brodie is a people dog and loves to be with people and given any chance he can get, he will get in your lap to watch tv and just relax. He does love outside time too where he can run and play fetch in the yard. He is very good, he will even bring the ball back to you. Brodie has been around several different dogs of all sizes.

Read more about Brodie

He tries to interact with them and they usually ignore him. I think he would love to find a friend that wants to play with him but also he would be great as an only dog. He has not been around cats so we are not sure how he would be with them. Brodie is housebroken as long as he stays on a schedule, just like any othe dog. He is young so he does have puppy in him. He has shredded a few toys but nothing else during his play time. Just like any beagle, they will run given the opportunity, so a home where no small kids can open the door and he can run out is best for him. Brodie is very energetic and would benefit from a structured lifestyle or formal training to help him to curtail his high energypersonality. He is just a playful boy who would love an active family and a largeyard to run around. This boy would get along with any dog, He always has asmile on his face!He wants to be everyone’s friend Right now he jumps upon everyone to say “Hi, Here I am”. He is so sweet and friendly. We areworking on his manners and appropriate greetings. He is very smart. Learned“sit” and “down” in just a few days.

2. Stellaluna

Puppy · Female · Whippet / Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 48 mi from Bethlehem

Meet this sweet little girl! At about 5 months old and and only 15 pounds, we feel she may be a Whippet–Lab mix, though her breed is a guess. 7. Jolene

Adult · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 6 mi from Bethlehem

Miss Jolene is all ready to find a place to call home! She is up to a healthy weight and her skin infection is all healed up! Jolene is about 2-3 years old and a beautiful brindle with the coolest markings. Jolene enjoys being with her people - she would love a lap to lay across or someone to take her for casual walks so she can sniff the ground. Jolene has done great with the female dog in her foster home after a proper shutdown. Her preference would be a laid back dog should she have to share space with another 4 legged friend. Jolene went from a dog starving on the streets of Philly, to a dog enjoying the warmth of a home. We are still working on her housebreaking as she occasionally still has accidents in her crate. Now that her body is properly processing her food, she is able to hold it longer. Jolene will be spayed next week and is up to date on vaccines.

9. Rollo

Young · Male · Poodle (Standard) / Mixed · 48 mi from Bethlehem

Hi! My name is Rollo and I am looking for a forever home! I was picked up as a stray by animal control and taken to a scary place called a shelter where, after no one came to claim me, I was about to be put on something bad called “the list.” Fortunately for me, BCAA saw me and said they would help me… yeah! I appear to be a Standard Poodle mix— but whatever I am, my foster mom thinks I’m one handsome dude! I had to be shaved down when I first arrived because my coat was in quite a hot mess, but just wait until all that fluffy hair grows back and it's already started.I’m a little over 50 pounds and about 18 months old.

Read more about Rollo

I’m still very much a young, energetic guy and I love being out and about. My enthusiasm can be a little overwhelming for smaller dogs, so I would do best with a dog who enjoys my playful energy and can keep up with me. But when it’s just me and my people, I’m a total cuddle bug and absolutely love attention. I’ve shown some interest in cats, although I haven’t been aggressive toward them. I’m also crate trained and have done really well in my crate without accidents or destroying my bedding. That said, I’d much rather be hanging out with you and will definitely let you know if I hear or see you and think I’m missing out!I’m pretty good on leash, although I can pull a little when I get excited about all the fun happening around me. I’m a happy, affectionate boy with plenty of personality, and I’m ready to find a family who will give me the love, attention, exercise, and guidance I need to continue growing into the best version of myself. If you’d like to learn more about me — or even better, meet me — please fill out an application at BCAAofNJ.org.

Young · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 48 mi from Bethlehem

Beau is a handsome 1-year-old Lab mix weighing about 55 pounds, although he’s a little on the skinny side and is working toward his goal weight of around 60 pounds. We think he may have some Hound or even Great Dane mixed in — and those long legs, slender build, and gorgeous floppy ears certainly make us wonder! Beau has the most beautiful jet-black coat and an even more beautiful personality. This boy has never met a stranger! He absolutely loves people and is always ready for pets, attention, and plenty of love. He’s great with kids, although because he doesn’t realize he’s a big boy and not a lap dog, he may be a little too much for very small children.Beau is wonderful with other dogs 30 pounds and up.

Read more about Beau

He loves running around the yard and playing with his dog friends, but he’s also respectful when another dog isn’t interested in playing. He’d love a home where he can have some room to run and enjoy his daily exercise. On leash, Beau is definitely a strong boy! He’ll need someone willing to continue working on his leash manners, and an easy-walk harness would be a great tool to help him learn. Once he gets his exercise, though, he’s not a high-energy dog and is perfectly happy to hang out with his people.Beau is also a great car rider and hops right in when it’s time to go! He knows sit and down, loves catching treats in the air, and thinks chasing a ball is pretty much the best thing ever. He does jump up to say hello, but he is very gentle about it — he’s just a big, goofy puppy who hasn’t quite realized how big he is yet! Beau is the kind of dog who will make you smile every day. He’s affectionate, friendly, playful, and eager to learn. He just needs a family who will give him some daily exercise, continue his training, and let him be the lovable goofball he is. If you’re looking for a big, goofy, incredibly friendly boy who thinks everyone is his new best friend, Beau might be your guy! Bcaaofnj.org

21. Sheba

Young · Female · Beagle / Hound / Mixed · 48 mi from Bethlehem

Meet Sheba! This sweet Beagle mix is about 2 years old and weighs around 33 pounds. And after almost two months in her foster home, we are so happy to say that Sheba has completely blossomed! When Sheba first came to us after spending more than a year in a shelter, she was incredibly scared and shut down. But with patience, love, and the safety of a foster home, she has discovered that life can actually be pretty wonderful. And now we’re getting to see the playful, affectionate, silly girl who was hiding underneath all that fear. Sheba is fully house trained and fully crate trained, and she is an incredibly well-behaved girl inside the house.

Read more about Sheba

She isn’t a high-energy dog, but she absolutely loves having time to play. Give her some toys and she will happily entertain herself by throwing them in the air, rolling around with them, or settling down with a good bone. Her favorite activity, though, might be playing with other dogs! She loves to play chase and roughhouse with canine friends who enjoy the same kind of play. Sheba has excellent doggy manners and social cues and does well with dogs of all sizes. A playful dog would be a wonderful match for her.She has also discovered that walks are pretty awesome! She loves getting out and sniffing all the new smells along the way. She does pull a little on leash, but her foster is working with her and she is continuing to improve. She currently requires a securely fenced yard because she is not comfortable pottying while on leash.Inside, Sheba is such an easy companion. She loves curling up on the couch and being right beside her foster. She isn’t a big barker and will generally only speak up if someone knocks on the door or another dog starts barking. She also sleeps peacefully and is perfectly happy relaxing with her people.Sheba is still a little nervous when someone reaches toward her unexpectedly, so she does best with people who understand that she may need a little time to warm up. She is especially good with kids who know to take things slowly with her at first. In fact, Sheba has even surprised some of the kids she has met at adoption events by giving them a sweet little kiss. She may still be nervous at busy adoption events, but that is not the real Sheba. Her true personality comes shining through when she is comfortable — especially when she is in a fenced yard playing with other dogs, tossing around her toys, or snuggling next to her foster. Her floppy ears, curly tail, playful personality, and sweet nature make her impossible not to love. Sheba has filled out beautifully and is now at a healthy weight, and watching her transformation over the past two months has been incredible. She went from a frightened, shut-down dog to a playful, affectionate girl who loves toys, walks, dogs, cuddles, and simply being near her people. She just needs someone who will continue to give her the patience and understanding that have helped her blossom. In return, you’ll get a sweet, funny, playful companion who will show you more of her personality every day. I have a beautiful tan coat with adorable white markings, and while we aren’t exactly sure what breeds make up my handsome face, we do know I’m going to be a medium-sized boy when I’m fully grown.I’m still a puppy, so I’m ready to learn, play, explore, and most importantly, find my forever family. If you’re looking for a sweet, easygoing pup to grow up alongside you, I just might be your guy! Apply to adopt Ben at BCAAofNJ.org!

Meet Cody!! This 30-pound lovable fellow is about 6 months old and is a sweet mix of heeler and maybe a sprinkling of beagle. He keeps himself busy--inside, following the Swiffer is a very popular activity; outside, collecting sticks is a must-do. He loves playing with the resident dogs and exploring the fenced-in yard--after all, leaves are just asking to be pounced on and plants that haven't been cut back yet are perfect places for afternoon naps. He enjoys his walks around the neighborhood and seeing birds of all sizes adds to the fun. He loves snuggling on a favorite lounge chair--as long as a foster family member provides a warm lap and blanket--plus the gentle rocking brings the final dose of comfy and eyes closed.

Adopting a dog with children in Bethlehem

Bring the whole family to meet the dog before you adopt, and ask the rescue how the dog behaves around children your kids' ages.

Teach children to let the dog come to them, to stroke gently, and to leave the dog alone while it's eating or sleeping. Give the dog a bed or crate of their own to retreat to, and always supervise young children with a new dog.

Relaxed adult dogs are often a better match for young children than puppies, which jump up, nip and chew while they learn.
