2. Hazel
Senior (8 years 11 months) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 38 mi from Lancaster

Hey there, I’m Hazel! A beautiful gray Pitty mix, 9 years young, with a heart full of love and a story that just might tug at yours. ❤️
Ya see, after giving my human 9 years of unconditional love, I slipped outside one rainy night. Instead of coming out to get me, he just shut the door. Yep, left me out in the rain! When found, my owner was contacted. He said he just didn’t have time for me anymore as d signed me away to a shelter.
OUCH! Talk about a broken heart! Nine years of loyalty, snuggles and devotion, and suddenly I was yesterday’s news. I was one depressed little gal, wondering what I’d done wrong.
Read more about Hazel
But the folks at the pound saw something my owner had forgotten. I’m SWEETER THAN SWEET! I still have a spring in my step, a twinkle in my eye and a whole lotta LOVE to give!
When I caught my Freedom Ride to Molly’s Place, I had a few young bucks along for the trip. Good grief, those whippersnappers got on my last nerve at first! But I’ve loosened up, joined in playtime, soaked up some sunshine and even learned to enjoy hanging out with the youngsters. No issues with other doggies here! Guess this old gal still knows how ta have a good time!
And don’t let my age fool ya! No senior moments here! I know how to SIT, take treats ever so GENTLY and walk pretty darn well on a leash. B
Now, I will admit, I’m a bit of a Velcro gal. After being left behind once, I’d much rather tag along with my family than sit home wondering where everybody went. I’m a people-loving, lap-warming, snuggle-bug kinda girl!
And with winter right around the corner, WHO NEEDS AN ELECTRIC BLANKET WHEN YA GOT HAZEL? I’ll keep ya warm n toasty! I also understand that the BEST things in life are love, loyalty and a comfy place beside my human.
So COME ON! Get off yer duff and come get this girl! Nine years old doesn’t mean my story is over. It just means I’m ready for the BEST CHAPTER YET!
I’m Hazel, and I may be a senior, but my LOVE has NO EXPIRATION DATE! ❤️

We feel our comprehensive adoption process which includes not only taking the time to match the dog to the prospective new owner but helping to educate that owner in responsible dog care, allows us to find the best homes for our little buddies and the best companions for you!
Each week we use USDA certified transports to bring dogs from high-kill shelters in the south to our fosters where they all receive the appropriate medical care and are placed in nurturing loving homes while they await placement in their forever homes.
Interested in one of our dogs? Great! Now that you've seen them here you'll need to go to our website where you'll find our list of adoptable dogs (updated every week). Then, it's just a simple process of finding a dog you're interested in and filling out an application on our site.
Once we receive your application, whoever is fostering that particular dog will contact you and do a short over the phone interview to complete your application process. If everything works out, they will set an appointment with you so come out and "visit" with the dog you're interested in (we want to make sure that not only are you a good fit for the dog but that the dog will fit with you). If everything works out, you'll be able to take Rover (or Spot, or Jax) home with you that very day.
A couple of things you should know:
We can't hold dogs over the phone or via email.
Adoption fees vary based on breed.
All of our dogs have been vet checked and dewormed (if possible due to age, additional treatment may be needed).
We provide a spay or neuter voucher to all of our adopters.

Sadie the SweetPea is full of love and wants to tell you her story
After surviving years of neglect, look at her smile! She was rescued in Georgia where she finally received veterinary care and lots of TLC. Sadie is the most perfect lady: Her most favorite spot is on a soft pillow, bed or snuggled in a blanket. She is so laid-back and only wants to follow her human and look out the door to see what is up in the neighborhood. Walks are the highlight of her day!
Sadie gets along with dogs of all sizes and cats. She is spayed and current on vaccines and preventatives. Sadie is a 10 year old Shih Tzu mix; still needing to gain weight, Sadie loves her afternoon snacks, especially peanut butter balls!

9. Scout
Puppy (4 months 16 days) · Male · Dachshund / Mixed (short coat) · 34 mi from Lancaster

Scout is an adorable 5-month-old Dachshund mix who is ready to find his forever family! He had quite the adventure before making his way into our rescue. For four days that we know of, he was running loose in the woods. Thankfully, one very determined and caring person refused to give up on him. A humane trap was carefully set up right in the woods where he had been seen, and within just a couple of hours, he was safely caught!
Since coming into rescue, he has been discovering just how wonderful life can be. He absolutely loves playing with his rescuers' dogs and has a playful, happy puppy personality. And when playtime is over? he turns into the ultimate cuddle bug! He loves curling up next to you and burrowing underneath a cozy blanket.
He is still just a puppy, so he does have an occasional accident, but he is learning quickly and doing really well with going potty outside.

12. Tilly
Adult (5 years 11 months) · Female · Boston Terrier (short coat) · 39 mi from Lancaster

Little Tilly has had a rough go recently and is looking for the perfect forever home. Despite sustaining life threatening injuries from being attacked by another dog in the home, she gets along really well with all dogs and people she meets.
While on the small side, she is all Boston Terrier. She loves to thrash her toys around, play a vigorous game of tug-o-war, and chew. Her favorite pastime is keeping the local squirrels in check.
Read more about Tilly
She needs a terrier savvy home with a fenced area to run and would do best with another dog(s) that is close to her size & likes to play a little rough. Not recommended for small children - she is mouthy and will accidentally nip a finger while playing. She’s working on this & is very responsive to being told no. It’s just hard when playing with fun toys.
Due to the trauma she’s been through, she is relearning potty training. She’s improving daily & usually lets her foster mom know when she needs to go out. She just needs consistency. Tilly is still a little scared of the dog door, but is starting to copy the other pups in the house. She LOVES to be out in the yard, but is scared to leave the gate or go on walks. She’ll need a human who will work with her on regaining confidence. She is crate trained, but is also good alone in the house for a short period (she will relocate your shoes though bc she wants to be near your scent).
She’s the cutest little gremlin that will make a Boston Terrier lover very, very happy. In between bursts of energy, she wants to snuggle - preferably on a pillow right next to you.

14. Rocky
Adult · Male · Maltese · 48 mi from Lancaster

MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Rocky, and I just arrived at CSAC. I was rescued from a puppy mill. I am a little timid because I have not been around a lot of people or lived in a home as a pet. I have spent my life in a barn, a shed or a cage. The CSAC volunteer says that I am happy and friendly. The best home for me has people who have dog experience who can help with my training and acclimating to the outside world. The people in my new home should be able to teach me the skills I need to be a great pet: walking on a lead, house training, and socializing. I will need time to trust people who want what is best for me and are not going to hurt me.
Read more about Rocky
That is something I have not experienced so far in my life. Right now, I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with CSAC. They are checking me out and making sure I am healthy. Hopefully, I will find my new family that will help me to understand that I am a cherished family pet, not just an animal to be used to make money. For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. Our adoption process starts with an application. If you are interested in adopting this pup, please click the Adopt menu at the top of the screen, read about our process, and click the application link. The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation. The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, and your donations are entirely tax deductible. Click the Donate menu at the top of the screen. Buddy is doing awesome with his housebreaking and loves to snuggle and play. He’s also learning to walk nicely on a leash and responds wonderfully to basic training using positive rewards.
He’s doing very well with crate training, too, and his crate has become his own safe and comfortable place to relax when no one is home.

Like any young pup, he’ll need a family willing to continue showing him the ropes as he grows, but he’s off to a wonderful start and has so much potential to become an amazing lifelong companion.

17. Pig Pen
Adult (5 years) · Female · Boston Terrier (short coat) · 38 mi from Lancaster

Did ya ever see a person/dog who's name was just so so perfect? Well, That's me. I'm known as "Pig Pen"! Like in the cartoon Charlie Brown, Dirt, mud puddles in my case. seems to pull me in! SPLASH!!!
As a 5 year old gale, small PURE Boston Terrier I've paid my dues being and have been surrendered to Molly's Place by a breeder. I'm done being a machine for money. Now good with some dogs once acclimated, I really love people and older kids. I do need a fenced in yard to allow me the freedom I never had.
Read more about Pig Pen
After all those years, who's going to deny me my pleasures in life.. loving people and "loving to bask in a puddle of mud"! Surely someone out there is ready and willing to love, have some good laughs and enjoy giving me bubble baths as I gladly smile ear to ear.
I'm working really hard on my house training and ALMOST there. So, you can teach an older dog new tricks! Hey, maybe you can teach me to enjoy walking past a puddle without trying to jump in! Ok, I do admit I can stay clean, but don't tell anyone....
Anyway, I'm Pig Pen, a gal with attitude, love to give and ready to make the world a funnier place for whoever adopts me!

21. Zuri
Young (7 months) · Female · Jack Russell Terrier / Border Collie / Mixed (short coat) · 38 mi from Lancaster

Welcome, Zuri! This sweet girl joins us from Parkersburg, WV, where she was an owner surrender. We believe she is a possibly a Jack Russell Terrier mixed with border collie?? She is somewhere between 6 and 7 months old and weighs 21 pounds. We don't think she will get too much bigger (maybe wider...lol).
Zuri is a social dog and has done well meeting new people. She may be hesitant for a couple of seconds, but then she's happy to meet you with a wagging tail! She has been around all sorts of sizes of dogs and has done well with all of them. She loves to play with other dogs, especially ones more her size, but she loves her people, too! The shelter has children volunteers who strictly come to play with the puppies, and Zuri was great with them.
Read more about Zuri
She also lived with a 3 year old child in her original home.
Being that she came from a home, she is well behaved in the house and will jump right into your car! She has had no accidents and seems to be housetrained, and does okay on a leash. The crate is not her favorite place, but most puppies don't seem to enjoy it in the beginning...lol.
We have also found she seems to be drawn to men. She follows her foster dad around the house and whimpers when he leaves. She is fine with women though!
Overall, Zuri is a very good pup! She is not a high-strung dog and is actually pretty chill. If she is allowed to sleep in bed, she will sleep all night long! She would much rather be snuggled up with her people than stuck in a crate. ❤️
Zuri is a sweet, fairly social, easygoing puppy who is ready to find her forever family. She has so much to offer and would make a wonderful addition to the right home! Zuri is spayed, microchipped, current on vaccinations and preventatives. Her adoption fee is $450. If you are interested in the little cutie, please submit an application on our website at https://worthytails.rescuegroups.org. 23. Romeo
Adult (7 years 5 months) · Male · Shih Tzu (long coat) · 34 mi from Lancaster

Romeo is a 7-year-old, 14-pound Shih Tzu who recently retired from a commercial breeding kennel. Unlike many dogs from his background, Romeo is a little more confident and enjoys coming over for gentle pets and attention. He’s still learning that people can be kind, and each day his personality continues to shine.
Romeo would do best with a patient family that will help him adjust to life as a cherished companion instead of a breeding dog. He enjoys the company of other dogs and will need a confident canine companion in his new home to help him continue building confidence and learning what family life is all about.
A quieter home without young children would be the best fit for Romeo. With love, patience, and another friendly dog by his side, this sweet little guy is sure to blossom into a wonderful companion.

24. Kai
Young (2 years 2 months) · Male · Pomeranian · 19 mi from Lancaster

PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO BEFORE APPLYING! Meet Kai, a gorgeous 2 year old, 8 pound Pomeranian looking for a particular forever home. This little guy was crated 23 hours a day the first 2 years of his life before coming to rescue, and it left some lasting effects that a new owner must understand. He has some neurological issues like high stepping, excessive spinning, and dramatic vocal responses to unwanted handling. He also has some behaviors that need patience and delicate approach when it comes to grooming and vetting that includes using some calming medication before hand. Kai does not allow a harness or collar to be applied so a fenced yard is required.
Read more about Kai
He thrives with other small dogs his age to play with and show him the ropes. Kai will attach to his adult people once he trust you and that involves giving him some space to figure things out, providing him a crate for security, and understanding he will come around in his own time. Kai is a comical, affectionate boy once he settles in, does well in a dog carrier for car rides, is house trained to use pee pads or potty outside, and is doing well learning how to be a dog now. Kai is on anxiety medication that have literally saved his life, allowed him to break barriers, and be a dog again. These medications should be continued for life for his physical and mental health. Kai would not be a good match to live full time with children, but visits and short exposure would be okay with supervision. This little guy will need time to settle into a new home, space, and patience from a new family, but once he does, he will bring joy to a new home.
To adopt Kai, please complete an adoption application at peacelovepoms.rescuegroups.org. The $350 adoption donation ($250 for senior citizens 65+) includes core vaccines (Rabies, Parvo/Distemper,and Bordatella), Accuplex (Heart worm and Lyme test), fecal, microchip, bloodwork, neuter, dental, and all the love you can handle! 26. Mimi
Senior (7 years 2 months) · Female · Poodle (Miniature) (medium coat) · 50 mi from Lancaster

Hi my name is Mimi! Before you get all excited because I am a poodle, please read all about me. I am a sweet girl, but I must have been used mostly for breeding because I am cautious of new people. I will literally run away from you if you move too quickly and when you do pick me up, I will shake even though I eventually will lean into your touch. It was said that I was about 5 years old when I came into rescue. My teeth were so bad that it was rrally hard to tell. Unfortunately my foster recently noticed that I was coughing and took me back in for a other exam. The vet found a slight heart murmur this time and I am currently on medication for this.
Read more about Mimi
I am doing great and my cough has disappeared. I will be on this for the rest of my life. Otherwise I am a very happy and energetic girl. I get along well with all dogs and cats. I would do best with no children as it take me a while just to warm up to adults. I would like an older quieter family with a fenced in yard so I cam go outside to potty and run and play. I need someone who is going to be patient and allow me to trust them so they can spoil me like I deserve to be. Please consider giving me a life like I have never had and apply for me at www.allmuttsmatter.org.

Adopting a small dog in Lancaster
Small dogs suit apartments and smaller homes, are easy to take along, and many live well into their teens.
They still need daily walks, play and training. Small dogs can be fragile, so ask the rescue how they are with young children, who can easily drop or step on them.
