1. French Toast

Young (1 year 1 month) · Female · French Bulldog (short coat) · 20 mi from LeRaysville

French Toast came to us from Manhatten ACC after being brought in with a painful and horrible ulcer in her eye and ear infections. She was seen by our vet right away and put on medications for both her eye and ear and is doing much, much better and we are pretty hopeful she can keep her eye! We were so worried she would lose it and it’s now looking just so much better.

She is just over 1 year old and currently hanging out in an upstate NY foster home and doing great. She is getting along well with the resident dogs, and is also super spunky and playful with the resident kitties.
She is a sweet little girl, just around a year and can’t wait to find her forever home.

2. Deanna

Puppy · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 20 mi from LeRaysville

Deanna is a cute little pittie/lab mix (we think) who was brought to the shelter with a mild rectal prolapse. When we have helped so many recently – what’s one more – so welcome Deanna! Currently in an upstate NY foster home, she is about 6 1/2 - 7 weeks old and happy, sweet and spunky. She is already proving to be a smarty pants and doing great with potty training, and will learn additional puppy basics as she settles in.

3. Cosmo

Puppy (3 months 9 days) · Male · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 20 mi from LeRaysville

Brindle boy Cosmo is ready for his forever family!

At just over 3 months old and a solid 25ishlbs, he’s that perfect mix of goofy and sweet. He definitely has that funny, bouncy puppy energy—he loves wrestling and playtime—but his favorite thing to do is crash right on top of you for a long nap.

He’s doing great with his puppy basics in his Upstate NY foster home, working on potty training, crate time, and leash manners. Cosmo is going to make an awesome, loyal sidekick for a very lucky family.

4. Cherry Garcia

Adult · Male · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 20 mi from LeRaysville

It honestly blows our minds that Cherry is still waiting for a family to call his own.

From the day he left the shelter, he has been pure joy, big laughs, and total goofball energy. He was a little rough around the edges in the beginning, but the second he realized he was safe, his sweet, spunky personality took over. Right now, he’s thriving in a wonderful foster home in VT, proving every day just how incredible a rescue dog can be when given a chance.

His cherry eye corrective surgery was a huge success—he has healed up beautifully, looks fantastic, and is completely ready to move on to his forever couch.

Adopting a dog in LeRaysville

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
