About Roxy Baby
Read more about Roxy Baby LOCAL MEET ME
Roxy Baby is the perfect blend of athletic Boxer energy and sweet companion. At three years old, she has outgrown the hectic puppy phase but still has plenty of stamina for long walks, backyard games of fetch, or weekend hikes. When playtime is over, she loves nothing more than curling up next to her favorite humans for some well-deserved belly rubs.
Because Roxy Baby's history with children and felines is currently unknown, a home that can manage slow, managed introductions would be best. If you have kids or other pets, a meet-and-greet will be an important step to ensure everyone gets along. She would thrive with an active individual or family who can give her the exercise, training, and love she deserves.
Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment, and is expected to complete treatment with no complications. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history.
An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this.

Milo
Read more about Milo LOCAL MEET ME
, a handsome 2-year-old Shepherd mix who is ready to find his ultimate adventure partner! With his striking good looks and intelligent, loyal eyes, Milo is the perfect blend of brains and athletic charm.
At two years old, Milo is past the hectic puppy phase but still has plenty of youthful energy. True to his Shepherd heritage, he is eager to please, alert, and thrives when he has a job to do—whether that's joining you on a morning jog, learning cool new tricks, or mastering the perfect leash walk. He has a sharp mind that loves puzzle toys and consistent, positive training. When the outdoor fun is done, Milo is more than happy to settle down by your feet (or on your lap, if you let him!) for a serious cuddle session.
Milo’s history with children and felines is currently unknown. Because shepherds can have a natural herding instinct, any introductions to kids or small animals should be done slowly, safely, and with supervision.
He thrives on structure and would love a person or family ready to continue his basic training to help him be the best canine citizen he can be.
If you are looking for a loyal, intelligent, and active companion to fill your days with love and adventure, Milo might just be your perfect match!

Denny’s story started with a heartbreak, but we know his next chapter is going to be full of love. This sweet 2-year-old pup was found abandoned, wandering the streets alone. Denny didn't deserve to be left behind, but despite it all, his spirit isn't broken. He is resilient, hopeful, and ready for a fresh start.
Because Denny was found as a stray, we don't currently know how he feels about cats or children. He will need a patient family willing to do slow, proper introductions to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable.
Denny has spent his youth facing uncertainty, and now he is just looking for a loyal companion who will never give up on him. Could you be the one to show Denny what a real, permanent home feels like?

Meet Chip!
Read more about Chip LOCAL MEET ME
Chip is a sweet playful puppy with a gentle and sensitive nature. He’s the kind of dog that looks to his humans for reassurance especially as he continues to experience many things for the first time. Chip may take a minute to warm up to other dogs and often looks to his humans to make sure everything is ok. Once he feels comfortable, he makes friends and loves to play - he’s quickly blossoming in his RI foster home with playful and welcoming pups. Chip has been around children and done very well. Chip even helped to find a missing kitty for his previous foster mom.
Being an Aussie mix, Chip has the smarts to show for it. This young guy knows ‘sit’ and ‘down’ already and is eager to learn new tricks. Foster mom thinks he may even have a future in agility once he settles a bit into forever home life.
Chip's ideal adopter would be a confident dog owner that’s able to provide structure and reassurance to young Chip as he continues to explore the world. Continued positive social interactions with dogs and people would greatly help Chip to become a confident dog.

Hi! I’m HoneyBelle, a puppy with a heart full of love! I adore playing with other dogs and have a blast with kids too. Cats? They’re cool in my book! I’m super smart and friendly, always ready for a game or a gentle cuddle. My favorite thing is just going with the flow, whether it’s a quiet day indoors or an exciting adventure outside. I am working really hard on house training and am almost there with just a little more practice. I am good in the crate and am having fun learning to walk on the leash. You know what would be really fun, you and I sign up for some dog training classes together. I hear group training classes are a great way to reinforce important skills, learn some new tricks, and get some quality socialization time with other furry friends.
Looking for a loyal friend who fits right into your family and brings joy every day? I’m your pup! Let’s make wonderful memories together!

Paisley came into a pound in MS pregnant. All her puppies were weaned and adopted. Paisley is crate trained, leash trained and appears to be potty trained. She loves puppies and gets along with other dogs. soft brown coat and white paws that will make you want to cuddle her all day long. She has beautiful brown eyes that radiate kindness and warmth, despite her initial shyness. Coco is a bit hesitant around new people but it only takes a treat or a few minutes, and then she warms up quickly and becomes a playful and affectionate companion who loves attention. She enjoys the company of other dogs and loves to explore her surroundings. Coco was taken from a hoarding situation in KY but it hasn't dimmed her sweet demeanor. She is pregnant and due near the end of October, so would be available for adoption after her puppies are weaned - just after Christmas.
If you're looking for a loyal and endearing companion who will bring joy to your life, Coco is the one for you!

Meet Petey. This very good boy came to us as an owner surrender because his owner experienced serious health issues, and he's relaxing in his foster home while he waits to be discovered by a second chance family.
Read more about Petey Clark
Petey is 12 years old, a rat terrier mix, and he's had the benefit of great care and socialization for his entire life. He's gentle, well mannered, great with other dogs, and he meets people well. Petey loves car rides, naps, treats, and getting affection, and he settles in nicely to new routines. He's pretty quiet and sedate most of the time, but there are two things to get him going – one is food! Petey has a hearty appetite and jumps around like a puppy when he knows he's going to get a treat or a meal. He's also crazy about balls! He loves to play with any type of ball and loves to play fetch, but he has not mastered the "bringing the ball back" concept but he will play all day with a ball.
He's a little hard of hearing, but otherwise very healthy for a dog his age! He's also neutered and entirely up-to-date with vaccinations and vet care. We're told that he's not a fan of cats and we're looking for a cat free home for him. He would also probably be happiest as an only pet because that's what he's used to. He's very submissive with other dogs, but does seem intimidated by the other dogs in his foster home even though they're much smaller than him. He doesn't cause any trouble or have any aggression, but it does seem that other dogs make him nervous, especially when they play together.
Petey is looking for a quiet home where he can relax and enjoy his golden years, and he's going to be a wonderful companion for someone who loves older dogs as much as we do.

This senior boy has had the benefit of lots of love for his entire life but unfortunately, the family he was raised with had some changes and one of the resident dogs became highly aggressive to him. His former owner made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him to rescue for his own safety, and we've brought him into foster care. He is a Boston/Pekingese mix, and an absolute, sweetheart! Knight is very well socialized and meets people well, he's great with other dogs, he is loving, affectionate and a really nice dog. We've gotten him to the vet to get him up-to-date on shots and have scheduled his neuter, and he's looking for a safe and loving retirement home.

Age: approx. 4 - 7 years old
Weight: 11 lbs.
Meet Cookie
Cookie is a sweet, lively 11 lb. terrier mix with a big personality. Her reported age is
4 years old
, although the veterinarian estimates she is likely closer to
7 years old
. She is affectionate, playful, energetic, and
very well housebroken
with regular potty trips outside. She sleeps in her dog bed or with her person if allowed.
Read more about Cookie Hadley
Cookie gets along with other dogs, but she is high energy and can play intensely, so she should be closely monitored with dogs significantly smaller than she is. She also has a
high prey drive
and is not suitable for a home with cats, rabbits, or other small animals that roam freely. Contained pets such as reptiles and securely caged birds are fine.
On her first day in foster care, Cookie experienced a seizure. There were several unusual circumstances that may have contributed. She had just experienced a stressful transport and major transition, it was an extremely hot day, and dehydration or overheating may have played a role. Immediately beforehand, she slipped on the stairs and was caught before falling, so
she did not hit her head
, but the sudden scare and physical stress preceded the episode. The seizure involved thrashing, paddling and drooling. She recovered well, was back to her normal self within about 20 minutes, and has had
no additional episodes or concerning symptoms
since. Because her previous medical history is largely unknown, we can’t know whether this was an isolated situational event or something that could recur, and her adopter should be comfortable monitoring her and pursuing veterinary care if needed.
Cookie isn’t recommended for very young children simply because her enthusiasm includes jumping up, and she could accidentally scratch or knock over a small child. She can also be a barker when left alone, so an apartment or other home with shared walls may not be ideal.
Cookie doesn’t need a perfect history to be a wonderful dog. She needs the
right home
: one that appreciates her energy and affection, understands the things we’ll never know about her past, and is prepared to give her the happy, secure future she deserves.

24. Mark Anthony Wright
Adult (8 years 3 months) · Maltese / Mixed (long coat)

Adoption Donation
$399
Located: New England
Age: approx 7-9 years old
Weight: 11 lbs.
Mark Anthony and his siblings were rescued from a breeder, where they spent years living in crates and never had the opportunity to experience the love, comfort, and security of a real family. Because of his difficult past, Mark Anthony is still learning what it means to feel safe and loved—but the progress he has made in such a short amount of time has been truly incredible. Mark would do best in a home as an only dog or with another submissive. He is exhibiting some resource guarding. No young children.
Read more about Mark Anthony Wright
He is working on leash walking and housetraining. He will sometimes use pee pads, but accidents should be expected as he continues to learn this new skill.
He can still be very timid and is considered a flight risk until you get to know each other. He should be kept securely on a leash or in a safely fenced yard.
More than anything,
Mark Anthony loves the simple comforts he is discovering for the first time.
He enjoys relaxing in his bed, playing with toys and, when he feels comfortable, snuggling up beside his person on the couch. Watching him slowly learn to enjoy these little moments is incredibly rewarding.
He has recently been diagnosed with hypothyroid and will need a small dose of an inexpensive medication daily for the rest of his life.
Mark Anthony also has skin allergies and needs either regular meds or shots to keep his licking and itching at bay.
Mark Anthony needs a patient, compassionate, and understanding home willing to let him progress at his own pace.
He has already come so far in such a short time, and we can only imagine how much more he will blossom once he knows he is home.
With time, patience, consistency, and lots of love, Mark Anthony has the potential to discover just how wonderful life as a cherished family member can be.

Ace has arrived in RI!! He acts like he has always been here. He is outgoing, loves people including young children. Ignores cats and is great around older dogs. Younger dogs seem to be a little too much for him. He is fully potty trained and acts like a big dog in a tiny body! He does have some separation anxiety but is not destructive. He would do best in a home with someone who can be with him most of the day. He loves hiking, car rides, going anywhere and everywhere with his people. He does need a home where he can share a couch and a bed at night with. If you are looking for a little shadow who just wants to be loved, Ace might be the one for you!

Energy Level: Ready to go on all the adventures, but happy to snuggle on the couch when his exercise needs are met!
Special Skills:
Unsolicited Enthusiasm, Aggressive Wagging, Professional Hype Man, Star Pupil in Training
Meet Scooter: The Over-enthusiastic CEO of Having a Good Time
Looking for a dog who approaches every single mundane moment like it’s the grand finale of a New Year’s Eve fireworks show? Meet Scooter, a stunning 7-month-old, jet-black beauty with the body of a lab mix and the work ethic of a shepherd who decided his main job is partying.
Scooter doesn't walk into a room—he launches into it like a glitter cannon. He loves everyone. He loves everything. He believes with every fiber of his being that life is a non-stop fiesta and he has personally appointed himself as the Master of Ceremonies.
The Scooter Standard:
Fun Coordinator (Factory Sealed): Scooter operates on 100% pure optimism. Naps are just a temporary system crash that only happen when he accidentally drains his internal battery mid-bounce.
The Ultimate Hype Man: Sad? Stressed? Scooter will lick and cuddle until you decide that today is the best day in human history.
Eager Learner & Star Pupil: He is remarkably smart, highly food-motivated, and deeply receptive to positive training. He loves working with his humans and is making huge strides every single day!
The "Let’s GO!" Mentality: Fetch? YES. Running? YES. Toys? ABSOLUTELY.
What Scooter Needs in a Home:
A "Tour Manager": An adopter who understands an active, playful pup and finds joy in the reward of training a smart dog!
Roommates? Scooter would be completely happy as an only dog. He would also be happy living with another dog who is large, playful, goofy and not territorial. Smaller, non-playful dogs would not find him endearing.
Adults & Older kids (10+): Because Scooter can be quite jumpy when excited and this could be a lot for small kids. He has been learning that sit gets him what he wants!
The Setup: A fenced yard for zoomies (or regular leash walks), plenty of puzzle toys, and an active human.
Quick Stat Check:
Pros: Gorgeous shiny coat, unmatched charisma, extremely receptive to training, guarantee that you will never have a boring day again.
Cons: Might try to high-five you at 6:00 AM while you're trying to make coffee.
Scooter's Backstory: Scooter and his sister Maggie came from a rural property where the two puppies had been abandoned. Despite that rough start, both pups have shown nothing but confidence, resilience, and a natural trust in people. They were raised in an active rural foster home with 10 acres, adults, kids, and other well balanced dogs, giving them a strong foundation in social skills, lots of exercise, and daily routine. They have transitioned nicely to more urban/suburban living in Rhode Island.

Meet your new best friend!!
Read more about Gertrude Rose LOCAL MEET ME
Looking for the perfect mix of playful energy and cuddly sweetness? This adorable adolescent hound might just be your girl!
She would love a home with another playful dog who can keep up with her fun-loving side. She loves a good romp in the yard.
Gertrude would prefer walks in the woods over a busy neighborhood.
She can be a little shy when meeting new people or exploring new places, but give her a little time and she’ll soon show you her sweet, affectionate personality. She is house trained and has been left alone for up to 2 hours in the crate.
Once she feels comfortable, she loves to play just as much as she loves to snuggle! She’s the kind of girl who will happily keep you smiling with her playful antics and then curl up close for some quality cuddle time.
Because of her interest in cats, we don’t recommend a home with feline friends. Instead, she’s hoping to find a cat-free home where she can build her confidence, enjoy a canine companion, and shower her people with love.
Could this sweet hound be the missing piece of your family? Come meet her and let her win your heart!
Medical Note: This puppy was born to a mother dog who was positive for heartworm disease and had circulating microfilaria. Microfilariae can be transmitted from mothers to unborn puppies through the placenta; these worms, however, will not develop in the puppy into adult heartworms because the heartworms must pass through a mosquito to fully develop. Microfilariae may live up to two years within the host dog in whom they were born, but they should be eliminated when the puppy received its first dose of heartworm preventative. This puppy has been given heartworm preventative regularly while in SOS care, but to ensure that any remaining microfilaria are fully eliminated and the risk to other dogs (via mosquitos) is minimized, SOS recommends that the puppy be kept on Advantage Multi or Parasedge (imidacloprid + moxidectin) for monthly heartworm preventative for at least the first three months after adoption. This product provides protection from heartworm disease as well as fleas, but another tick preventative (oral) should be used.

If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

Adopting a dog in Washington County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
