1. Smoky Bear
Adult (7 years 6 months) · Male · Dachshund / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 46 mi from Nome

Smoky Bear is a new arrival to CTDR after being found running the streets in Austin. The finder took him home in hopes of finding his owners but to no avail. CTDR was contacted to see if we had room for this handsome boy and of course, we said yes. Smoky has started his vetting process but sadly he tested positive for those nasty heartworms and will have to undergo heartworm treatment before being adopted along with needing an extensive dental. Please look for updates on this handsome boy.
2. Sadie

Sadie is a new arrival to CTDR after being surrendered by her owner who could no longer keep her. Sadie became a little jealous of a new dog on the home and it was best to have Sadie find a new home. Sadie is a beautiful red standard girl who would do best as an only dog in the home. She is fully up to date on her vaccines and is ready to find her forever home. Could that be you? If so, please complete an application at www.ctdr.org.

3. Gigi Grace
Young (5 years) · Female · Dachshund / Cavalier King Charles Spaniel / Mixed (long coat) · 46 mi from Nome

Gigi Grace--or Grace, as we call her--can be calm and is always affectionate, once she gets to know you. She is my shadow. She follows me everywhere, and when I sit down, she jumps in my lap. She loves to nap curled up next to me. If she's not on my lap, she is on the floor right next to me. However, she is also very playful, especially lately, since she is now used to us and fully recovered from her surgery (spaying). After breakfast, she likes to play with our other dachshund. She also has a particular toy that she likes. She will shake it and run around with it and play tug-of-war with me. She LOVES to run around the yard.
Read more about Gigi Grace
She tries to get the collie to chase her, and she loves to chase the ball. Grace is pretty much house trained. The only time she's had accidents is when we leave the house for a few hours. I am working on getting her to use the pee pad during those times. It's going well, but she's not 100% perfect yet. Grace does not seem to have any separation anxiety, but she has two other dogs here to hang around with when we're gone. No destructive behaviors (like chewing); no excessive barking. The only time she barks is when someone comes to the house. She is good on the leash and in the car. We have really loved having her with us. She has been really easy to take care of.

How to adopt from Central Texas Dachshund Rescue
Our Web site contains full details. We have all of our dogs (pictures/bios) on the site. Potential adopters need to completely fill out the application. Our Adoption Committee reviews and contacts the potential adopter to get the specifics. The committee also conducts the reference checks. Once this is complete, the committee sets up a home visit and finally, the team will set up a meet greet with the adopter and family to meet the Dachshund. All of our dogs are in foster homes with our volunteers so there isn't one central location.
Adopting a dog in Nome
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
