1. Blanche
Female · German Shepherd Dog · 8 mi from Texas City

Meet Blanche, one of four German Shepherd puppies named after the Golden Girls. Like her namesake, she is full of charm, but the similarity stops there. She’s is, after all, a German Shepherd puppy, and therefore, busy perfecting a different set of social skills—making dog friends, playing hard, and figuring out what all those human words like “sit” and “come” are supposed to mean! She’s playful, loves the company of other dogs, and is just beginning her journey toward becoming a well-mannered young lady. She has plenty of time to master the basics, and with those German Shepherd brains, we suspect she’ll catch on quickly. For now, she’s happy to make friends, have fun, and charm everyone she meets. After all, you don’t have to be a Golden Girl to be golden!
2. Sailor
Adult (5 years 11 months) · Male · Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 38 mi from Texas City

Meet Sailor!
Sailor is an approximately 6-year-old Lab mix with a big personality, a love of adventure, and an even bigger love for his people. He’s looking for a home where he can be someone’s loyal companion, adventure buddy, and couch potato—all rolled into one.
Sailor absolutely lights up when he realizes he’s going for a walk, a car ride, or an outdoor adventure. He gets adorably excited at first, then settles right down once he’s on leash or in the car. He would be an amazing match for someone who enjoys hiking, exploring, or spending time near the water.
Read more about Sailor
And water is definitely Sailor’s happy place. He LOVES swimming, playing fetch in a pool or lake, and enthusiastically “attacking” the spray from a garden hose. He does great on a pontoon boat and would probably take well to paddleboarding or canoeing with a little training. On trails, he has excellent recall off leash and loves getting out to explore.
For all his adventurous energy, Sailor is just as happy relaxing at home. He loves being near his people and curling up on the couch. He is crate trained and willingly goes into his kennel—often choosing to rest there on his own. He also rides calmly in the car, including on long trips.
Sailor has had three weeks of professional sleep-away training and knows a great list of commands, including heel, sit, stay, down, place, kennel, here, “leave me alone,” and more. He walks nicely on leash and is very food motivated. His all-time favorite treat is hard-boiled egg yolk; he can hear the little “tap tap” of an egg on the counter from practically anywhere in the house and will come running! He also has excellent house manners and does not chew things that aren’t his toys.
Sailor would thrive best as the only pet in the home. Cats are far too intriguing and, in his opinion, clearly meant to be chased. He has done well with some smaller dogs, particularly more submissive females. On walks, he is generally easy to redirect around other reactive dogs, although he may respond if another dog surprises or challenges him through a fence.
Most of all, Sailor loves being part of his family. He wants to be included, whether that means heading out for an adventure or hanging out together at home. He would do best in an adults-only household or a home with older teenagers.
Sailor’s current family loves him deeply and is heartbroken to be looking for a new home for him. Before they adopted him, Sailor had spent about two years living in a kennel. Sailor is comfortable with affection from adults—even big hugs—but he is uneasy about being touched by young children, likely because of something in his life before he joined the family.
Because their children understandably want to love on him, his family has made the difficult decision that Sailor deserves a home where everyone can feel comfortable and where he can truly thrive.
Sailor has already been through a lot, and he has so much love, fun, companionship, and adventure left to give. In the right home—one without young children and preferably without other pets—he is going to make someone an incredibly devoted best friend.
Please share and help us find Sailor the home he deserves.

6. Thelma
Young · Female · Unknown breed (short coat) · 22 mi from Texas City

MEET "THELMA" OKLAHOMA, MCALLESTER; ADOPT OR FOSTER TO ADOPT
DOB: 6/1/2025
BREED: CENTRAL ASIAN SHEPHERD
NOTES : ABOUT THELMA
Thelma is currently around 125 pounds and may mature somewhere around 140 pounds. Despite her impressive size and presence, she is an incredibly loving, gentle girl who enjoys being with her people.
In her foster home, she has experienced life around poultry, waterfowl, goats, sheep and pigs from the other side of a fence.
Thelma loves having room, being outside, checking out what's happening around the property and then coming inside to enjoy the comforts of home.
Read more about Thelma
She is good with other dogs and would love a home where she can bond with her people, have a job of her own choosing, even if that job is simply keeping tabs on her property.
As with any dog, introductions to animals, routines and the property need to happen slowly and intentionally. New home. New animals. New relationships.

7. Bella
Adult (5 years 3 months) · Female · Shepherd / Carolina Dog / Mixed (medium coat) · 38 mi from Texas City

Bella does not need everyone to love her. She needs one person willing to give her enough time to believe them.
Bella was adopted as a puppy, but somehow, at about 5 years old, she has already ended up at the pound twice. Whatever happened in between clearly left a mark. She is not the kind of dog who runs into a stranger’s arms five minutes after meeting them. She watches. She worries. She needs time to decide that you are safe.
And really, who could blame her?
When Bella was surrendered the last time, she spent her days watching every door and every person who passed, searching for the people she knew. They did not come back.
Read more about Bella
Now she is safe with Scout’s Honor, but she is living in boarding while we look for the right foster or forever home. She is about 5 years old and 55 pounds, a beautiful Shepherd mix with those wonderfully expressive ears and the intelligence and loyalty that come with them.
Bella is gentle, sensitive, and cautious. New people and unfamiliar situations can scare her at first, so she needs someone who understands that trust is not something you demand from a dog like Bella. You earn it. Quietly. Consistently. Without rushing her.
And then you get to see the real Bella.
Once she realizes she is safe, the fear begins to soften and her sweet, loving personality comes through. That is the reward with dogs like her: you know the affection is real because she chose to give it to you.
Bella is not looking for a chaotic household or someone expecting instant perfection. A calmer home without very young children would likely suit her best, and she needs a person who can give her structure, patience, and the time to settle in at her own pace.
The good news is that Bella does not need some extraordinary dog expert to save her. She needs someone dependable. Someone who will not take her hesitation personally. Someone who understands that a scared dog is not a broken dog.
She has already been uprooted enough.
What could change Bella’s life now is actually very simple: one home where she is allowed to exhale, one person who keeps showing up, and enough time for her to learn that this time, nobody is leaving.
If you are the kind of person who believes the dogs who take a little longer are worth the wait, Bella may be waiting for you.

8. Selma
Adult · Female · Hound / Shepherd / Mixed (short coat) · 38 mi from Texas City

Meet Selma—the big, goofy girl who just wants to be close to you.
Formerly known as Indara at Harris County Pets, Selma is beginning a new chapter with Scout’s Honor. She shared a kennel with our sweet Patty and showed us what a kind, loving girl she is.
The shelter estimates Selma is around 6 years old, though we think she may be a little younger. Whatever her age, she has plenty of love to give—and she’d make a wonderful couch buddy. Selma may be a big girl, but her favorite place is right beside her person.
Read more about Selma
She can be a little unsure at first and may need a moment to take in a new situation. With patient guidance and a little reassurance, her loving, goofy personality shines through. Selma is dog-friendly and could enjoy a canine companion; she likes a little time to figure out a new dog’s play style before she settles in.
Selma deserves a home where she can feel safe, loved, and close to her people. Could you be the one to give this sweet girl her fresh start? Please consider fostering or adopting her.
Visit scoutshonor.org to apply. Scout’s Honor covers all expenses associated with fostering.

9. Lisa
Young (2 years 2 months) · Female · English Setter / Great Pyrenees / Mixed (long coat) · 38 mi from Texas City

Hello beautiful -- Introducing Lisa!
Lisa is one of the sweet girls from our shelter pull this weekend. She was surrendered by her owner to Harris County, though we don’t know the reason why. We do know one thing though…this mama has clearly had puppies recently, but sadly they were not turned in with her.
Read more about Lisa
Even though Lisa has only been with us a short time, she has already shown us just how gentle, calm, and loving she is. She’s the kind of dog who just melts into you. Lisa gets along well with other dogs and so far seems more like a laid back girl than a rough-and-tumble player, but as she settles in and gets more comfortable, we are already seeing her personality bloom. Watching her start wagging her tail and open up has been so special
We would absolutely love to get Lisa into a foster home soon so she can finally relax and know what it feels like to be truly loved. If this sweet mama sounds like your kind of girl, please head to www.scoutshonor.org and fill out a foster application today!

10. Lucius fka Shuppo
Adult (4 years) · Male · Mastiff / Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 38 mi from Texas City

Lucius: Those Eyes Tell a Story. That Tail Tells You Who He Is.
Lucius is only about 3–4 years old, but he has already been through more than any dog should. When we first met him at Harris County Animal Control, he was painfully thin, missing patches of fur, and carrying a deep scar around his neck from a heavy chain. After his owner passed away, Lucius was reportedly beaten by officers responding to the home.
He cowered in the corner of his kennel. But when we came close, he wagged his tail.
That’s Lucius. Even after everything, he kept looking for someone to love.
Read more about Lucius fka Shuppo
With patience and care, he began to come back to life. The frightened dog we first met became a joyful, affectionate boy who loves to play. Then, after slipping away during a veterinary trip, Lucius spent 29 days missing. We never stopped searching, and we were overjoyed when we found him and brought him home.
Now Lucius is ready to make up for lost time. He’s full of life and energy, loves to play ball, and enjoys playing with other dogs. Those eyes may break your heart, but his happy, bouncing spirit will win it right back.
Lucius is looking for a foster who can welcome his playful energy and give him the love he has always deserved. Scout’s Honor Rescue can cover all fostering expenses as needed.
Could you be part of Lucius’s next chapter? Visit scoutshonor.org or apply to foster Lucius.

Adopting a large dog in Texas City
Large dogs need room to stretch out and plenty of exercise: at least one good walk a day, and a secure yard is a bonus. Check your lease too, as some landlords limit the size or breed of dog.
Start training from day one. A big dog who walks nicely on a leash and doesn't jump up is a pleasure to live with, and many rescues can recommend a local trainer.
