Dogs for Adoption in Delavan Lake, WI: 20 Dogs Looking for a Home

Bijou and Dash came in as a bonded pair when their owner went into a nursing home. They do take some time to warm up to new people but do well together. They were housetrained in their home, but may need a little retraining in a new home after being in the shelter. These dogs deserve a home to live out their senior years, and we are hoping to be able to keep them together. Bijou is Dash's mother, so they have been together for many years. They have been updated on vet care including dentals, so now they just need a home.

We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation.

If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com. Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs. Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to.

We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home. Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.

We are located in Mukwonago, WI. Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs. Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt. Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog. All dogs are seen by appointment only.

The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $495 for most adults and up to $650 for puppies which includes Wi State Sales Tax. Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer. Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.

To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $100 (up to $260 value). You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts. You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee. Hi everyone. My name is Rascal but it used to be Moss. I think Rascal fits me better. I’m a very happy boy with lots of puppy energy, very friendly. I love doing zoomies in my yard and playing with my little foster sister Muffin. Once I get all my zoomies out, I love to cuddle up on the sofa. I need lots of yummy food to keep my energy up - my foster mom says that I’m a very good eater! I am working on my potty training and I know to walk to the door to ask to go out. Once I’m outside I sometimes get distracted if the family of wild turkeys are walking across my yard. There are 9, I counted them but didn’t bark.

When you look at my picture, you might think it’s AI generated. It’s really me, I’m really that cute.

You might ask what I’m looking for in my forever family. I need a family who is kind, loving, and patient. A furry sibling a little older than me would be perfect, a playmate for times when you’re busy. Do you have a big fenced in back yard so I can run? That sure would be fun. I like lots of toys - my currency favorite are ones to chew.

I know to sit for a treat but still learning to walk on a leash. My foster mom says that I’m really smart and learn quickly.

Do you think that you could live a little fella like me?

Hoping to be your new best friend.

Love, Rascal

These litter of pups came from another rescue so they can find loving homes. Acorn, Birch, and Moss are the boys, and Fern and Thistle are girls. We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. They haven't lived in a home yet, so will need to learn things like housetraining, but they are up to date on their vet care including vaccines, spay/neuter, microchip, and started on heartworm preventative. Apply now and we will set up appointments for you to meet the available pups.

Profile: Linden is back up for adoption after getting adopted and being returned after a couple weeks. He really loved his female adopter, and wanted her all to his own. This is something that can be worked with, and may lessen as he is sure he has a home. He does seem to bond with females more quickly than males. He was affectionate with the female adopter, and ignored the others in the home. He was a cuddly boy when in bed with his humans. The adopters also felt he would do best with another dog in the home.

Linden came from a commercial breeder/puppy farmer who was no longer going to use him for breeding. He came to us very scared but he is starting to open up and is learning how to play and be a dog. He is starting to trust humans, but we haven't worked on leash walking yet. He can learn to be a loving pet, but it will take time and patience. If interested in him, please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website. Linden is currently wearing doggy boots as he will pace around his kennel and make his pads sore. We are working on getting them healed and toughened up, until then he looks cute in boots.

Dogs from commercial breeders are generally undersocialized (often very scared/shy/skittish) and probably never lived in a house. They will need to learn things like how to walk on a leash, go up stairs, and what things like a television are. They need a patient adopter who will give them the time they need to adjust and to learn to trust people. Every baby step forward needs to be celebrated, and the dog needs to be accepted for who they are at each step. Some dogs can adjust quickly and learn how to be a loved pet pretty easily. Others can take a long time to even be comfortable with things like walking through the house and being in the same room as a person. No matter how far and how fast the breeder dogs progress, they are wonderful dogs and deserve a great home after their life on the puppy farm. A fence or at least a secure fenced in potty area is highly recommended for the dog's safety, and may be required for some dogs. Another small dog in the house can also help many former breeders adjust faster to life in a home, and also may be required in some cases. We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation.

If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have. http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html

Freddy is enthusiastic about life. He wakes up every day waiting for a new adventure. This happy guy is eager to explore new things, be the referee at the dog park and has the ability to get you off the couch for a fast paced walk or slow run. Despite his excitement for life, he does know when to chill out on his dog bed and chew on a bone. Despite him knowing a few basic commands, he is treat motivated and would be an A+ student in any basic obedience class. Freddy is great with kids and will share in the chaos that kids can bring to the home. His heart is big and is always ready to show you some love.

Ideal Home:
Freddy is looking for an active family who enjoys some adventures, playtime and continuing his training. He needs a family that can teach him that not every dog he meets wants the immediate attention he is willing to give. Freddy will be a perfect family dog with just a small amount of guidance.
