Through everything she endured, Angel was a loving mama. Sadly, only one of her puppies survived. Her little one, Peanut Butter, is also looking for a forever home.

3. Bambi

Adult · Female · Border Terrier / Terrier / Mixed (long coat)

Bambi is a sweet, gentle girl who adores the women in her life. She is very uncomfortable around men and would be ideal for a single woman or an all-female household, with no men visiting often. Calm kids 12 and up are probably fine.

She’ll need an adopter who lets her settle in at her own pace.

She’s a little thing, probably under 15 lbs, and she’s vaccinated, spayed, and ready to be someone’s cherished companion!

4. Peanut Butter

Puppy · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed

This sweet little chocolate-and-peanut-butter brindle puppy is looking for a forever OR foster home!

Originally part of a large litter born to a very friendly but extremely neglected and abandoned mama dog, Peanut Butter is sadly the lone survivor from the litter, but she is currently in a place with many other dogs and cats, so she is still being socialized with other animals.

Peanut Butter is described by her caretaker as “shy, but friendly” – and they said that she LOVES the kiddy pool! She loves to soak herself, roll around, and play with the hose.

Read more about Peanut Butter

Currently living in a large pack, Peanut is still young enough that she is moldable, and training and socialization should go far. She just needs a safe, comfortable home where she can get some exposure to potential adopters looking to add a sweet girl to their household.

Peanut Butter is vaccinated and will be spayed before being adopted or fostered.

Let us know if you’d like more information on Peanut Butter!

P.S. Peanut Butter’s mama is also available for adoption!

Ice is estimated to be around 2 years old. She’s friendly, intelligent, and gets along well with other dogs. She’d love a home where she can be part of the family, stay active, and get plenty of love and attention.

7. Ollie

Puppy · Male · Pit Bull Terrier (short coat)

Meet Ollie!

Ollie is a sweet young bully breed pup, estimated to be around 7–8 months old, who is looking for a loving home of his own.

This handsome boy was sadly abandoned near our home and left to starve in the wilderness. Since then, he’s been nursed back to health, neutered, and fully vaccinated - and through it all, he has remained an incredibly good boy.

Ollie is crate trained and already knows “sit” and “down.” He’s still just a puppy, so he has lots of growing and learning ahead of him, but he’s off to a wonderful start and is ready for someone to give him the happy life he deserves!

8. Moose

Male · Doberman Pinscher / Mixed

Moose is a two-year-old mixed-breed, handsome black-and-tan boy weighing about 72 pounds. He came to us at four months old from a breeding situation, along with two siblings.

Indoors, Moose is a calm, shy, and sweet dog who settles easily. He enjoys petting, napping on the sofa, and spending time outside exploring his world. He loves to play and run, making him a great match for an active family.

Read more about Moose

Moose is good on a leash, comes when called, and is crate trained and buzz-collar trained. He does well with other dogs. He has been exposed to cats and teenage children; while he has chased a cat in the past, he is warming up to cats. Moose would do best in a home with older children.

If you are interested in a meet and greet with Moose, please fill out an adoption application on our website. Once reviewed, you will be contacted.

A meet and greet and home inspection are required for local adopters.

9. Jade

Young · Female · Boxer / Hound / Mixed (short coat)

Jade was found living in the woods of rural Newton County with a group of dogs, likely her littermates. After months of looking out for herself and her pack, she's figured out how to survive. Now she needs someone to teach her how to be a house dog.

Jade lives with a large pack currently and generally gets along with most dogs, though she can be bossy and pushy with some, especially other females. She's also vocal and will bark to announce strangers, but she listens and backs off when she's corrected. A meet-and-greet with any resident dogs is required, and she'll do best with someone who can give her consistent structure.

Read more about Jade

Jade is smart and responds to correction, so with a dedicated person and some regular training she should come along quickly. She's still young, with an adorable slight underbite and pretty moo-cow patches, and she has everything she needs to become a spoiled, well-mannered family dog. She just needs someone to step up and adopt or foster her!

Adopting a dog in Boone County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
