2. Ryder

Young (1 year 9 months) · Male · Beagle / French Bulldog / Mixed (short coat) · 8 mi from Azusa

Meet Ryder

Ryder may have the shortest little legs and the longest little body, but this adorable Beagle mix has a heart that is absolutely HUGE! This sweet boy has been through quite a journey, and we think it's about time his story gets the happiest ending!

Read more about Ryder

When Ryder first joined OURS, he discovered the wonderful world of unlimited kibble and, well, let's just say he got a little carried away! He gobbled up so much food that his belly ballooned, sending us straight to the emergency vet in a panic. As it turns out, Ryder simply has some wonky ribs that make his tummy look a little unusual when it's full. Everything works just as it should, and all that kibble digested without a hitch! Crisis averted, and Ryder earned himself a pretty funny story!

But Ryder's journey hasn't been all laughs. He came to us with his sister, his very best friend and partner in crime. Sadly, she lost her battle with complications from distemper, leaving Ryder to figure out the world without her. And while our hearts broke for this sweet boy, Ryder showed us just how resilient a little dog can be.

He learned to stand on his own four very short legs, make new friends, and embrace life with the sweetest spirit imaginable. Today, Ryder is a happy, loving little guy who is ready to leave the hard chapters behind and start his greatest adventure yet — a forever family of his very own!

Quick Facts About Ryder

Breed: Beagle Mix

Personality: Incredibly sweet, lovable, and resilient

Special Features: Long body, teeny-tiny legs, and adorably wonky ribs!

Dog Friendly: Has learned to make new canine friends

Health: His unique rib structure doesn't interfere with normal digestion or function

Looking For: A loving forever family to call his own

Located in: Southern California

Ryder has already experienced love, loss, and a few unexpected adventures in his young life. Through it all, he's held on to that beautiful, gentle spirit that makes him so special.

Now it's Ryder's turn to be someone's whole world. He doesn't need anything fancy — just a family who will love his funny little body, cherish his enormous heart, and promise that the best days are still ahead. Could you be Ryder's happily ever after? If you are interested in meeting Ryder, please apply here.

3. Harley

Adult (3 years 1 month) · Female · English Bulldog / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 8 mi from Azusa

Meet Harley

There are some dogs who walk into your life and immediately make you smile, and Harley is absolutely one of them. This short, stout, snorty little English Bulldog mix is three years old and quite possibly one of the most adorable bulldogs we’ve ever met.

Read more about Harley

Harley was found on an incredibly hot day seeking shade on someone’s porch. Thankfully, an animal advocate took her in, kept her safe and did everything possible to locate her family — but no one ever came forward. And considering someone made the decision to butcher this beautiful girl’s ears, we’re perfectly okay with Harley closing the door on that chapter of her life. Because despite whatever came before us, Harley is absolutely full of all the good stuff.

Quick Facts

Age: 3 years old
Breed: English Bulldog mix
Dog Friendly: Yes — she would benefit from continued socialization and proper introductions
Personality: Affectionate, energetic, goofy and devoted
Favorite Things: Toys, attention and making sure absolutely nothing remains inside the toy box
Location: Southern California

Harley is a compact little ball of energy, snorts and personality. She loves being part of whatever is happening and has that wonderful bulldog combination of being completely ridiculous one minute and incredibly loving the next.

She also takes her toys very seriously. Harley believes the only appropriate way to choose one is to first remove every single toy from the toy box. Once everything is scattered around and available for proper consideration, she will finally select the one she wants to play with. We don’t make the rules.

Harley is dog friendly, but she could use a little more experience navigating the doggie social scene. Continued positive socialization and thoughtful introductions will help set her up for success and allow her to build confidence in her canine relationships.

More than anything, Harley is ready to belong.

She’s looking for the family who will love her funny little quirks, appreciate every snort and wiggle, keep that toy box well stocked and give her the security of knowing she is finally home.

And in return? Harley will give you her whole heart and become one of the most dedicated companions you could ever ask for. Could Harley be the one you’ve been waiting for? If you are interested in adopting Harley, please apply here.

We believe every dog deserves to be loved and safe.

4. Jessie

Young (1 year 1 month) · Female · Chihuahua / Greyhound / Mixed (short coat) · 8 mi from Azusa

Jessie is a joyful little firecracker who approaches life at full speed! This playful, energetic girl absolutely loves other dogs and is happiest when she has a four-legged friend to wrestle with, chase around the yard, and join her for a serious case of the zoomies.

Jessie is still learning how to channel all that enthusiasm, but underneath the wiggles is a sweet, social girl with so much potential. She’s looking for a family who will give her the exercise, structure, confidence, and training she needs to become her very best self.

Quick Facts

Wonderful with both big and small dogs

Would thrive with a playful, well-mannered canine companion

Read more about Jessie

Cats are unknown, but she can be tested

Best suited for older children or teens due to her enthusiastic puppy energy

High-energy, playful and always ready for fun

Loves toys and happily carries them around

No food or toy guarding with people or other dogs

A home with a secure yard and room to run would be ideal

Would benefit from continued training, confidence building and consistent routines

Can be nervous around unfamiliar people on walks and needs a securely fitted harness and patient guidance

Crate trained for sleeping and when her people are away, although she is still working through some anxiety and FOMO when she knows fun is happening without her

A confident, well-mannered resident dog could be a wonderful role model for her

Located in Southern California

Jessie can initially be shy with new people, particularly men, and she appreciates being allowed to make friends at her own pace. Once she feels comfortable, her playful personality takes center stage. She’s very much a “follow the pack” kind of girl and looks to the dogs around her for cues, which is another reason we think the right canine sibling could be fantastic for her.

Right now, some of Jessie’s extra energy and frustration are amplified because she is recovering from her spay and hasn’t been able to run, wrestle, and play the way she normally would. When she gets excited, she can be vocal and occasionally mouthy in that silly puppy way, so she’ll need someone willing to patiently teach her appropriate ways to channel her enthusiasm. She’s also learning that shoes, hats, and other tempting human belongings aren’t actually dog toys!

Jessie isn’t looking for a quiet, sedentary life. She wants activities, adventures, zoomies, toys, training, and preferably a dog friend who thinks wrestling is just as much fun as she does. Because she needs room to burn off energy and can be vocal when excited, apartment living probably isn’t the best fit.

With an active family, consistent boundaries, plenty of appropriate exercise, and some confidence-building along the way, we think Jessie is going to absolutely blossom. She may not be a couch potato or champion cuddler just yet—there are simply too many exciting things to do!—but for the family looking for a funny, spirited little sidekick who will keep life interesting, Jessie might be exactly their girl. If you are interested in adopting Jessie, please apply

here.

5. Inky

Adult (2 years 1 month) · Female · Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 8 mi from Azusa

Meet Inky

Some dogs run straight into your arms. Others make you earn your way into their heart—and somehow, that makes every little piece of their trust feel like a gift. Inky is one of those dogs.

Inky came to us with her Dachshund-mix family after living in a home where the dogs were used for breeding. She appears to be a little older than the others, and it’s entirely possible she may even be their mama. We may never know exactly what role Inky played in their previous life, but we do know that she arrived as the shyest of the bunch.

Read more about Inky

This beautiful girl prefers to observe things from the perimeter while she decides whether everything is safe. But look closely and you’ll realize something important: Inky wants connection. She watches you with the most soulful eyes, and when your eyes meet, you can almost see her working up the courage.

Then, slowly, she makes her way over.

And before you know it, this cautious little girl is crawling into your lap.

The first time we saw Inky’s tail wag was pure magic. It may seem like such a small thing, but in rescue, sometimes a tail wag tells an entire story. It told us that somewhere underneath all that uncertainty was a little dog beginning to believe that maybe she was safe. Maybe these humans were good. And maybe being loved could actually feel pretty wonderful.

Quick Facts

Dachshund mix with that adorable long Doxie body

A little older than the others in her family—and possibly their mama

Shy, gentle & wonderfully sensitive

Has the most beautiful, soulful eyes

Wants connection even when she’s still working up the courage to ask for it

Will quietly make her way over and crawl into your lap

Her trust is something truly special to earn

Needs patience, reassurance & continued confidence building

Accustomed to having canine companions

A little chunkier than the rest of her crew—more Inky to love!

Would benefit from a family familiar with Dachshunds and their long-back care needs

Located in Southern California

Inky isn’t going to be the dog bouncing at the front of the crowd demanding your attention. She’ll be nearby, watching and wondering if you might be someone she can trust.

Give her the time to answer that question for herself.

Because the moment those soulful eyes meet yours, that little tail starts wagging, and Inky quietly climbs into your lap, you’ll understand just how precious it is to be chosen by her. If you are interested in meeting Inky, please fill out our application here.

7. Crypto

Adult (3 years 1 month) · Male · Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 8 mi from Azusa

Meet Crypto

Crypto may take a little time to decide you’re his person—but once he feels safe, you’ll get to see the sweet, gentle boy hiding behind that shy exterior.

This handsome guy is naturally a little reserved when meeting new people and settling into new surroundings. He isn’t the type to charge into a room demanding attention. Crypto likes to observe, figure things out, and build trust at his own pace. Give him that little bit of patience, and you’ll be rewarded with a wonderful companion who just needed someone to give him the chance to feel secure.

Read more about Crypto

Crypto has an easygoing, non-dominant personality and does well with other dogs. He’ll occasionally play with toys, but he isn’t possessive over them or his food. He’s crate trained and may serenade you with a few whines and his signature little “whistle” when he has something to say.

Like many dogs adjusting to a new home, Crypto may do some marking at first, so a belly band is a great tool during that initial transition. Once he understands the routine and realizes this is his home, we expect that behavior to settle as he becomes comfortable.

Quick Facts

Sweet, gentle and non-dominant
❤️ Shy at first and needs a little time to build trust
Does well with other dogs
Occasionally enjoys toys and isn’t possessive
️ Eats two meals a day and shows no food aggression
Crate trained

May mark initially while adjusting to a new home; a belly band can help
Looking for patient, consistent humans who will give him time to settle in
Located in Southern California

Crypto doesn’t need someone to rush him. He needs someone willing to let him exhale, learn the routine, and realize he’s finally home. Give this sweet boy a little patience and security, and you may just discover that the quiet ones have some of the biggest hearts. If you'd like to meet Crypto, please fill out our application here.

Meet
Tiger
, a 7-year-old Pitbull boy who absolutely lives up to his name with a striking brindle coat patterned in soft, muted stripes of cream and light brown! This big, gorgeous chonky meatball doesn't always show his best side in his kennel, where he can be a bit barrier-reactive, but once he's out, it's like meeting a whole new dog. Tiger has been wonderful with both people and other pups, and he's done fabulously in playgroup with his fellow four-legged friends! He has a fun, rough-and-tumble play style and a perfectly balanced medium energy level, so he'd do best with similar-sized dogs who enjoy the same kind of play. More than anything, this handsome boy is a big softie who eagerly seeks out pets and snuggles, with a loose, wiggly booty that lets you know just how happy he is to be loved. , a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois girl who is every bit as gorgeous as she is lovable! This sleek, regal beauty has a blonde-brown coat dusted in soot and a striking all-black face that gives her a truly unforgettable look. Sweet, smart, and always ready to work or play hard, Klara is eager to please and has never met a person or pup she didn't like! She may be a little nervous when first meeting new people, but give her a moment and she'll transform into a total lovebug, gently bouncing up to say hello before settling in close for some affection. Once she's burned off some energy, she's more than happy to curl up in your lap - even if she hasn't quite figured out her size - and neck scritches are guaranteed to win her heart. If you're a Malinois lover looking for a beautiful, active, affectionate companion with brains and personality to spare, Klara is your girl!

18. Maxx

Adult (3 years) · Male · Siberian Husky (medium coat) · 13 mi from Azusa

A5802898 Maxx
is a charming Siberian Husky mix with the most unique brown and blue eye combination! This handsome 3-year-old boy is already neutered and well-mannered, showing signs of housebreaking, walking easily on leash, and knowing the command “sit”. Though he has some minor bare patches on his cute, floppy ears from a past ear infection when he was a stray, Maxx is fully healed and ready for fun! Through the fence, volunteers observe Maxx to be very polite and calm with another large male dog. In his home, he would prefer more confident dogs as he can sometimes get pushy to shyer, newer dogs. Maxx cannot wait to be the perfect family companion in his forever home!

Adopting a dog in Azusa

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
