6. Rango

Puppy (6 months) · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 68 mi from Bakersfield

Meet Rango! Your Next Adventure Buddy!

Hi, I’m Rango, a playful, mischievous little pup with a big personality and a whole lot of love for life! I’m incredibly smart (I even taught myself how to play fetch!) and always ready for a backyard adventure or a good game with my favorite person.

I love making my own fun, whether that means zooming around outside, chasing a ball, or exploring the world around me. And when all that puppy energy runs out? You’ll find me curled up nearby, catching some much-needed Zzz’s.

Read more about Rango

I may not be the biggest cuddle bug, and being held isn’t really my thing, I’m a little too wiggly for that! But I absolutely love being close to my people. I also enjoy the company of other dogs, and treats and mealtime are definitely some of my favorite parts of the day!

My favorite things:

Playing fetch (I’m a natural!)

Running zoomies in the backyard

Hanging out and playing with my person

Sleeping next to my favorite human

Making doggy friends

Treats, snacks, and a good puppy nap

If you’re looking for a clever, fun-loving companion who will keep you smiling and bring plenty of puppy joy into your life, I just might be your perfect match.

7. Dandelion

Adult · Female · Pit Bull Terrier (short coat) · 98 mi from Bakersfield

#A5798699
Meet
Dandelion
, a 4-year-old Pit Bull girl and the most adorable chunky little monkey, dressed in a striking dark brindle coat with rich black and brown tones! With her sweet bow-legged front end that gives her just a hint of bulldog, she’s impossible not to love - and even after everything she’s been through, her gentle spirit hasn’t dimmed one bit. Dandelion came in as a stray with a bloody bandage on her leg, which sadly needed to be amputated, but this resilient girl is adapting beautifully and already getting around wonderfully on three legs! She’s been friendly and curious with other pups through the play-yard fence, and she even watched a cat run right past her in the parking lot without so much as a reaction. ❤️ Now Dandelion deserves a soft, safe place where she can continue healing, settle in, and finally experience the loving life she should have had all along. Come give this brave little girl the furever family she’s been waiting for!

8. Blossom

Young (4 months 28 days) · Female · Unknown breed (short coat) · 68 mi from Bakersfield

Meet Blossom!

Part puppy, part mystery, 100% adorable! We’re not exactly sure what breeds make up Blossom, but she’s keeping that secret to herself! Her DNA may be a mystery, but her personality is definitely not.

Blossom is a happy, playful, spunky puppy who is eager to learn and always ready for her next adventure. She gets along well with dogs of all sizes, does great with cats, walks well on a leash, and even enjoys car rides. Whether it’s playtime, an outing, or simply hanging out with her people, Blossom is ready to have a good time!

Read more about Blossom

She’s also already showing off some impressive skills. Blossom is potty trained, crate trained, and knows how to use a doggy door. And when it comes to training, she has one very important weakness: FOOD! Food, treats, and toys are definitely the way to this girl’s heart. Her love of tasty rewards makes learning new things extra exciting—and makes convincing her that training is fun pretty easy.

But Blossom isn’t all about playtime.

She’s a sweet, social girl who loves attention and, apparently, has a bit of a fashionista side! She absolutely loves dressing up, so her future family better be prepared for some seriously cute photo opportunities.

Blossom is looking for a loving, committed forever family who will continue helping her grow, give her plenty of playtime and guidance, and, of course, provide lots of cuddles.

Her breed may be a mystery, but there’s no mystery about this: Blossom is one special girl who is ready to find her forever family. If you’re looking for a smart, playful, social puppy who’s already off to a fantastic start, Blossom may be your girl!

9. Bisquit

Adult · Male · Whippet / Mixed (short coat) · 56 mi from Bakersfield

Bisquit and a few little dogs were found abandoned on a property and brought to the Lancaster shelter. All his companions got adopted just poor Biscuit was left behind and put on the euthanasia list after he had been at the shelter for over a month. We were alerted about him and his story and from what we learned about his behavior we could not let him die in there, so off we went and saved his life.He is just the best dog! Sweet, mellow and so well behaved. His size is also perfect, not too small and not too big. :) he is also very dignified and likes to cross his legs when he is laying down.He was an abnormality in his skull, where the muscles have atrophied around his eyes and jaw.

Read more about Bisquit

We had him checked out by our vet who did a blood test to test him for a serious disease that could have caused this but luckily the test came back negative. We don't really know what could have caused this deformity but it doesn't seem to impair him in any way. He is acting like a completely normal dog and loves to hang with all his dog friends here at Paw Parent. But what he really would love most is to call a family his own. He gets attached fast and deep and is very loyal. He gets along with all dogs and he is housebroken. What mire do you want? He is perfect, please hurry before he is being snatched up by someone else! The shelter guessed his age at about 4, his weight is 37 pounds, he is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and ready for his new adventure with his own new family. 12. Little Black Dog

Adult · Male · Terrier · 92 mi from Bakersfield

Meet our little rescue dog. After talking to the Cat House neighbors it appears he was dumped. Staff immediately scooped him up and whisked him away to the vets. Once at the vets, we learned someone used him as target practice. We couldn't believe someone would do this to this gentle kind dog. Regardless of the abuse he's encountered, he's a really sweet dog. He's about 20-25 pounds and fairly young. Little Black Dog hangs out all day with about 30 cats, a small resident dog, and also visits with the senior dog Buster. He's learning how to walk on a harness leash and happy to report he's making great progress.

14. Cowboy

Senior · Male · Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat) · 56 mi from Bakersfield

Paw Parent facilitated Cowboy's rescue from the Lancaster shelter in 2014. He was adopted by a couple that gave him a stable loving home until they ended in divorce this year and poor Cowboy became the innocent victim. Paw Parent was contacted and we welcomed him with open arms. How could we not? He is a 14 year old treasure, incredibly sweet with not a mean bone in his body.A couple of months after his arrival he started to have glaucoma in his left eye that did not respond to medication and got worse quickly. Glaucoma is not curable and treatment would be life long with no guarantee that the eye could be stabilized, so we made the difficult decision to have the eye removed.

Read more about Cowboy

He has recovered beautifully and is back to his happy go lucky sweet personality. His greeting when I come home is so heartwarming, he is so overjoyed that he literally serenades me with a beautiful song. He gets along with all the dogs here, is gentle, mellow and an absolute delight to have around. Unfortunately he cannot come to adoptions with us because he gets car sick. He is so deserving of a second chance of a home where he can live out his golden years. Will it be yours? He is neutered, microchipped and current on all his vaccines. Please call us at 661-724-0642 or email us pawparent@gmail.com if you would like to meet him.

Bringing a dog home to your cat

Tell the rescue about your cat: their age and how they react to dogs. A dog who has lived calmly with one cat may still want to chase a cat that runs.

Introduce them slowly. Keep them apart for the first few days and swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior.

Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, like a high shelf or a room behind a baby gate, and keep the litter box and cat food out of the dog's way.
