Bubba’s Golden Years
At 16 years old, Bubba never expected to find himself searching for a family again. He was originally adopted from DPS, but when his beloved owner passed away, he returned to our care. Now this sweet, gentle Shih Tzu is hoping for a peaceful home where he can feel safe, cherished, and surrounded by love for the rest of his golden years.
A Gentle Old Soul
Read more about Bubba
Bubba was understandably sad when he first arrived in his foster home. For the first couple of days, he kept his distance and walked away when anyone tried to reach for him. His whole world had changed, and he needed time to understand that he was safe.
With patience—and a little reassurance from the other dogs in his foster home—Bubba gradually began to open his heart again. He now recognizes his name, comes when called, and happily accepts head rubs and full-body massages. He may not be a lap dog or traditional cuddler, but he likes to remain close to his person and generously hands out kisses.
The Bubba Schedule
Bubba wakes up around 6 a.m. and heads outside to take care of business. He is fully housetrained and has not had any accidents in his foster home. He generally eats breakfast around 9 a.m. and dinner around 6 p.m.
Bubba is an exceptionally picky eater and will hold out if a meal does not meet his very specific standards. He currently eats We Feed Raw, which has a softer texture than traditional kibble. His adopter should be prepared to continue finding foods that appeal to him and make sure this discerning little gentleman keeps eating consistently.
He enjoys two leisurely walks each day—one around 9 a.m. and another around 8:30 p.m. Bubba walks slowly but steadily, follows his person nicely, and never pulls. He does not have the stamina for long walks or extended activity, but he seems to enjoy getting outside and taking in the neighborhood at his own comfortable pace.
During the day, Bubba rests near his foster while she works. At night, he sleeps soundly in a dog bed or on the carpet beside his foster family’s bed. He has needed a middle-of-the-night potty break only once.
Professionally Relaxed
Bubba spends most of his time resting, lounging, and keeping quiet company with his person. He is not interested in chewing, digging, or creating household drama—and his foster has yet to hear him bark.
He currently lives with two young, small mixed-breed dogs. They occasionally sniff him, but everyone mostly gives one another space. Bubba does not seek out interaction or play with the other dogs, although their presence may have helped him feel more comfortable when he first arrived.
Bubba sometimes chooses to retreat to the backyard while his foster family watches television, possibly because the noise is too loud for him. A calm home where he has quiet, comfortable places to rest would suit him beautifully.
A Home for His Golden Years
Bubba needs an adopter who is prepared to spoil him rotten for however long he has left. He is looking for softness: a cozy bed, gentle walks, good meals, soothing massages, and someone who will treasure every day they share with him.
The Sweetest Kisses
One of Bubba’s most endearing qualities is his love of giving kisses—even if his breath sometimes makes them especially memorable. His foster offers him dental sticks, but true to form, picky Bubba requires a little persuasion. He watches the other dogs enthusiastically devour theirs while his foster repeatedly presents his stick for inspection. Eventually, he decides it meets his standards and joins in.
Bubba has already experienced a profound loss. What he needs now is someone willing to give him the very best chapter of his life: a person with the time, heart, and compassion to love him completely, however

3. Chewie
Senior · Male · Maltese / Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (medium coat) · 42 mi from San Bernardino

Meet Chewie! ❤️
Chewie is an approximately 11-year-old Maltese mix who weighs 14 pounds, and this sweet little boy is ready for a fresh start and a loving home to call his own. He came to us as an owner surrender due to a life-changing family situation.
Read more about Chewie
Chewie is a lovable, mellow, and sweet little guy. He is housetrained, happily sleeps in his crate, and is an easygoing companion who would love nothing more than to be part of a family. He enjoys his daily walks and, despite his age, still loves to show off his playful side with some adorable zoomies in the backyard! While Chewie is dog friendly, he prefers to socialize with smaller dogs his size. He also tends to be more cautious with men and will need a slow introduction to men he doesn't know.
Chewie recently underwent extensive dental surgery. Because he had never received previous dental care, he unfortunately lost all of his teeth. But don’t let that worry you—Chewie doesn’t seem to know he’s missing a single tooth! He is happy, comfortable, and enjoys his meals. He will simply need to remain on a soft-food diet.
His bloodwork shows that he is in good health for his age, and he has completed his medical intake. Now all Chewie needs is someone to give him the love, comfort, and happily-ever-after he deserves.
If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle little companion who will be grateful for every bit of love you give him, Chewie may be your perfect match.
If you are interested in meeting Chewie, please first complete an adoption application on our website: www.greatpets.org.
Chewie’s $200 adoption donation includes his veterinary examination, vaccinations, bloodwork, extensive dental surgery, fecal examination, microchip, and flea control.

4. Molly
Senior · Female · German Shepherd Dog (short coat) · 46 mi from San Bernardino

Molly is a purebred, 12 year old German Shepherd! She loves to play fetch and always carries her ball with her. Molly is active for her age, but is also a loyal, well-behaved house guest. She will just lay by your feet when it is time to relax and, when you need to leave her at home, she will patiently wait by the door until you get back!
Molly is friendly and gets along well with people. She doesn't bark, knows basic commands, does well in a car, and she is crate trained as well as housebroken. Molly gets along with other dogs, but is dominant and a bit pushy so she would do best as the only pet in her next home.
Read more about Molly
She has had regular vet check ups and is current on all vaccines! She is starting to lose her eyesight, but she can still see and has no problems finding anything or getting around.
Molly has been with us awhile and we truly hope she will find her people soon! She deserves to be in a home where she can be the center of attention and spoiled with tons of love and attention in her golden years!
Molly is currently being fostered in Menifee, CA, but transport to surrounding states can be arranged for the right home.

5. Barney
Senior · Male · Jack Russell Terrier / Poodle (Standard) / Mixed (medium coat) · 46 mi from San Bernardino

Barney is definitely man's best friend. He enjoys a good scratch and will hang out with you while you watch TV. He even watches, too! He also loves his toys and will entertain himself with a bone for hours (no plush toys for him because he will pull out all the stuffing!) When you're feeling more active, Barney is happy to go out on adventures with you. He is very spry for his age! He loves car rides, hikes and exploring, but he sometimes pulls on his leash and barks at other dogs in excitement. He just wants to say hi, though! Barney is a very sweet dog and gets along with dogs, cats, kids and even bunnies! He would love a home with another dog, but he mostly just wants someone to give him attention and make him part of their family.
Read more about Barney
Barney is a very unique looking dog with his long legs, wire hair, and a mohawk! Even though he is only 20lbs, he tends to hang out with our big dogs since he is so tall! Barney is a Jack Russell Terrier/Poodle and approx 11 years old (he doesn't act like a senior at all). He is in great shape, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
Barney is also housebroken, crate trained and knows basic commands.

6. Archie
Senior · Male · Chihuahua / Jack Russell Terrier (Parson Russell Terrier) / Mixed (medium coat) · 46 mi from San Bernardino

Archie is pretty much the perfect dog, but he gets overlooked because of his age. He is 12 years old but you'd guess he was younger. Yes, he loves to curl up in a lap to nap and doesn't require a lot of exercise, but he still enjoys playing and he loves to explore. He would love a family where he can be someone's travel buddy even if it's just a trip to a restaurant, coffee shop or the park. He loves car rides! Plus, he is friendly with everyone he meets, walks well on a leash, and has the best manners, so it's easy to have him tag along. He recently went to dog beach and had the best time! (Check out the video).
Read more about Archie
Archie gets along with all people, dogs and cats. He even previously lived with toddlers, but we think he deserves to spend his senior years in a bit more quiet environment than with young children.
Archie is approx 15lbs, neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. He has had a vet exam and bloodwork done (all looked great) and he recently had a dental. He doesn't have many teeth left, but he eats kibble just fine.
Archie is quiet, even- tempered, and fine when left alone. He is also housebroken and crate trained (but we never need to crate him).
If you're interested in adopting Archie, please submit an application on our website at www.dominoeffectanimalrescue.org

7. Mickey
Senior (6 years 3 months) · Male · Corgi / Mixed (short coat) · 36 mi from San Bernardino

Mickey is an adorable and sweet boy with an undeserving past. He was owner surrendered to us by the daughter of the owner who is in end of life care due to brain tumors. However, Mickey was already microchipped and we traced down the chip. Turns out this boy was dropped into a "night deposit" at a local shelter in 2022 and then adopted out to a John Smith and we don't know how many people he has been with from him to the ones we received him from, but this boy doesn't deserve the life he's had so far. He is a picture perfect dog. He gets along with cats, dogs, chickens, kids...everything. He is crate trained and prefers to sleep in his crate for naps and puts himself away in it for breakfast, dinner and bedtime.
Read more about Mickey
He is fully housetrained and walks beautifully on a leash. He is the sweetest dog and we really want to make sure that his next home is going to be his last. He is a few pounds overweight, but has already lost a couple in our care. We had full blood work done on him and he is in picture perfect health. Mickey is a wonderful dog and would make anyone a wonderful companion. If you'd like more information on Mickey, please email greendogfoundation@gmail.com or if you'd like to fill out an application for adoption, go to www.greendogfoundation.org. Mickey's adoption fee is $450 and he is fully vaccinated including rabies, neutered and microchipped.

Adopting a senior dog in San Bernardino

Ask the rescue about the dog's health and vet history. Many rescues charge less to adopt a senior dog.
Many small dogs live to 15 or older, so a senior dog can still be part of your family for years.
