Young · Male · Doberman Pinscher / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed · 24 mi from Santa Clarita

Meet Squid! Some dogs just have a way of stealing your heart, and Squid is definitely one of them!Squid was rescued in the 11th hour, just in time to escape euthanasia. After spending the last few months in foster care, this adorable boy is showing everyone just how much love he has to give. He’s goofy, playful, and absolutely thrives on attention. Toys are a favorite, and if there’s water around, even better! Squid would love an active family who enjoys including their four-legged companion in life’s adventures. He’s also a true Velcro dog. Once he loves you, he wants to be right by your side. Squid can be a bit of a Houdini when first settling into a new environment, so secure fencing and extra care with doors and gates are important until he understands that home is where the fun is.

7. Bruno

Adult (4 years 11 months) · Male · Dachshund / Mixed (short coat) · 24 mi from Santa Clarita

Meet Bruno

A sweet soul with a love for company and cozy blankets

Male • Standard Dachshund, mix • Approximately 5 years old • 24 pounds

With his warm brown eyes and affectionate nature, Bruno has a way of making you feel like the most important person in the room. He enjoys attention from adults and children alike, and when he’s especially happy to see you, he’ll stretch up against your legs to get a little closer.

Read more about Bruno

Bruno appreciates the simple pleasures: a leisurely walk, a tasty treat, a friendly game of chase, and a comfortable couch beside his people. In true dachshund fashion, he loves burrowing into pillows and blankets. If your idea of a lovely evening includes a cozy spot and a devoted companion, Bruno would be happy to join you.

He has been friendly and nonreactive with the dogs he’s met so far, both large and small. He plays appropriately with his foster sisters and enjoys their company. Found as a stray alongside another dog, Bruno also shared space with other dogs during his shelter stay.

Bruno walks beautifully on a leash, making outings together a pleasure. Toys haven’t caught his interest just yet; for now, people, treats, and his canine companions seem to be his favorite things.

He is still working on his indoor manners and currently marks in the home. His foster family is managing this with belly bands, and his adopter should be prepared to continue patient, consistent housetraining as he adjusts.

Bruno would love a family who will include him in everyday life, enjoy his affectionate personality, and give him the time and guidance he needs to settle in. Another friendly dog could be a lovely match, given how much he enjoys his foster sisters.

Could your home be Bruno’s next cozy place to land? Submit an adoption application through Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles and tell us about the life you could share with this lovable boy.

Meet Cleo — Your New Best Friend and Forever Shadow! ❤️

Say hello to beautiful Cleo, an absolutely darling black-and-tan dachshund with soulful brown eyes, an irresistible little face, and a heart full of love!

At approximately 1½ years old and 18 pounds, Cleo is what we affectionately call a tweenie — that wonderful size right between a miniature and a standard dachshund.

And this little girl is an absolute sweetheart!

Read more about Cleo

Cleo has a wonderfully sweet, affectionate, and easygoing temperament. She adores people of all ages, children and adults alike, and seems to believe that everyone she meets is a friend she hasn't had the pleasure of cuddling with yet!

Speaking of cuddling, Cleo is a champion snuggler. She's happiest being close to her people, and if you're looking for a devoted little companion who wants to be wherever you are, you've found your girl. Cleo is going to be someone's very own four-legged shadow! Whether you're relaxing on the sofa, moving from room to room, or settling in for the evening, you can expect Cleo to be right there beside you.

But don't let her love of cuddles fool you! Beneath that sweet exterior is a spirited young dachshund who's just waiting for her chance to run, explore, and enjoy life at full speed. Once her veterinarian gives her the all-clear, we have a feeling this little lady is going to have a wonderful time stretching those short legs and showing off her playful side!

Cleo was recently spayed and is currently recovering from surgery, so she's taking things easy for now and enjoying some extra TLC.

❤️ Cleo is currently being fostered in Calabasas, California.

With her loving personality, affectionate nature, and enthusiasm for everyone she meets, Cleo is going to make one very lucky family an incredibly devoted companion.

Cleo isn't quite ready for adoption just yet!
We're giving her the time she needs to fully recover and settle into foster care. But don't worry — we'll let everyone know as soon as this beautiful girl is ready to begin her search for a forever home!

For now, please join us in welcoming sweet Cleo to the DRLA family! ❤️

We were alerted about him and his story and from what we learned about his behavior we could not let him die in there, so off we went and saved his life.He is just the best dog! Sweet, mellow and so well behaved. His size is also perfect, not too small and not too big. :) he is also very dignified and likes to cross his legs when he is laying down.He was an abnormality in his skull, where the muscles have atrophied around his eyes and jaw.

We had him checked out by our vet who did a blood test to test him for a serious disease that could have caused this but luckily the test came back negative. We don't really know what could have caused this deformity but it doesn't seem to impair him in any way. He is acting like a completely normal dog and loves to hang with all his dog friends here at Paw Parent. But what he really would love most is to call a family his own. He gets attached fast and deep and is very loyal. He gets along with all dogs and he is housebroken. What mire do you want? 27. Marcus

Young (2 years 4 months) · Male · Dachshund (short coat) · 24 mi from Santa Clarita

Meet Marcus — Big Dog Energy in a Dachshund Package! ❤️

2 Years Old | 35 Pounds | Standard Dachshund | San Diego, CA

Meet Marcus, our handsome, larger-than-life Standard Dachshund with a big personality, an adventurous spirit, and an even bigger heart!

At 35 pounds, Marcus is a magnificent example of a full-sized Standard Dachshund. He's strong, athletic, intelligent, and incredibly devoted to the people he loves. Once you've earned his trust, you've gained a loyal companion who takes his role as your best friend very seriously.

An Adventurer at Heart!

Read more about Marcus

Marcus isn't your average couch-potato dachshund! This energetic boy loves being outdoors, exploring the neighborhood, enjoying long walks, and putting those powerful little legs to work.

He's an enthusiastic exercise partner who has even enjoyed running alongside a bicycle! He's also a wonderful car companion, always happy to head out on another adventure.

And when the day's activities are finished? Marcus knows how to relax. Give him a sunny backyard, a comfortable place to stretch out, and his favorite humans nearby, and he's one happy dachshund.

The Home Marcus Dreams Of

Marcus is looking for something special: a peaceful, structured home with plenty of room to enjoy life.

A house with a securely fenced yard is essential. Because of his size, strength, and activity level, apartment and condominium living would not be suitable. In fact, we think Marcus might absolutely love life on a farm or a spacious property where he could enjoy the outdoors safely!

Marcus forms strong attachments to his trusted people, but he needs time and patience when meeting unfamiliar people. He can be reactive toward other dogs while on leash and has sometimes reacted unpredictably toward strangers and children. Marcus has a bite history, so an adult-only home with experienced, responsible dog guardians is essential.

His ideal adopter will understand canine behavior, recognize his boundaries, and be comfortable continuing positive, consistent training. Marcus has already made progress, and we're committed to supporting his continued development with professional training.

With thoughtful introductions and careful assessment of compatibility, Marcus may also enjoy sharing his home with a calm, confident dog his size or larger.

Marcus's Perfect Match ❤️

An adult-only household with no children

A house with a securely fenced yard — no apartments or condos

Experienced dog owners who understand reactivity and canine body language

28. Gracie & Leona

Young (1 year 10 months) · Female · Australian Kelpie / Siberian Husky / Mixed · 18 mi from Santa Clarita

Meet Leona & Gracie – A Bonded Pair of Beautiful Siberian Husky Sisters

Leona (tan with blue eyes) and Gracie (brown with blue eyes) both survivors of Contra Costa Animal Services are stunning Siberian Husky/Australian Kelpie sisters who are approximately 1½ years old. Each weighs between 35–40 pounds and is healthy, energetic, and full of personality. Both are vaccinated, spayed and microchipped.

Read more about Gracie & Leona

These sweet girls are naturally shy around people indoors, but beneath their cautious nature are gentle, affectionate, and loving companions. They are curious, friendly, and non-aggressive with both dogs and cats. While they are good eaters, they prefer to dine privately and are most comfortable eating when people are not nearby. They are not particularly motivated by treats for training purposes, although they do have a few favorite treats they enjoy sharing together in the backyard, especially after a walk.

Leona and Gracie are sensitive souls who startle easily with sudden movements or approaches. They take time to build trust, but once they feel safe with someone, they enjoy gentle affection and attention. They thrive with calm, patient people who respect their boundaries and allow them the space they need to feel secure.

As a bonded pair, Leona and Gracie are happiest when together. Whether they're relaxing on their dog bed indoors, exploring their secure fenced yard, or heading out on an adventure, they find comfort and confidence in each other's company. Watching them play together is a joy—they are full of energy, husky antics, and sisterly fun.

Daily walks are the highlight of their lives. The moment they realize it's time to go, they become animated, vocal, and excited. On walks, they truly shine. They walk well on leash, are easy to guide, and love exploring new sights, smells, routes, and environments. They are intelligent, curious dogs who thrive on outdoor stimulation and exercise. Regular daily walks are essential to their happiness and well-being.

Because of their strong prey drive and independent husky nature, Leona and Gracie should not be considered off-leash dogs. At this time, neither reliably responds to voice recall or commands when distracted.

Since entering foster care, both sisters have continued to make steady progress and gain confidence. They would do best in a quiet, calm home with a securely fenced yard and a family willing to provide patience, kindness, consistency, and understanding. In their foster home, they have a designated quiet space where they feel safe and can relax or nap when needed.

A home with younger children would likely not be the best fit, as a busy household could increase their anxiety. Instead, they would flourish in a peaceful environment where they can continue building trust at their own pace.

Leona and Gracie are truly special dogs. Their foster family adores their unique personalities, endless husky quirks, and the laughter they bring every day. They are inseparable sisters who are looking for a forever home willing to embrace them exactly as they are—a loving, devoted pair ready to share a lifetime of adventures together.

Why adopt an adult dog in Santa Clarita

An adult dog's personality is fully formed, so the rescue can tell you how they are with people, other pets and busy households. Many have lived in foster homes and are already house-trained.

Grown dogs need less supervision than puppies and often know the basics, like sitting and walking on a leash, which suits people who work or have young children.
